I guess I am not being clear... I meant: How would you address *new*
developers?  Would you have them at all go to the development page?  For
I agree that experienced developers do not probably go there. 

FWIW, the to-dos listed from there get a lot of hits, and is usually in
the top 100.

Right, that's for experienced developers.  

So, how would you point people to "http://development.openoffice.org/";?  

And again, we both want to reduce redundancy and make it easier. And I
think you and I at least are agreeing that having one "contributing"
link, which is not contributing money, is all that is needed.

(We can have then, a "Donate" link.)
