I have an EarthLink account, but because my Internet access is provided by SBC Yahoo DSL, I use the smtpauth.earthlink.net server for sending messages. It requires authentication, and you must provide your FULL e-mail address as the Account ID (along with your password). IN ADDITION, you may need to override the default port. This was not necessary for me originally, but SBC started blocking the default mail port for anyone not using their mail servers. I suspect this is what has happened to the original poster.
