Well, I got curious after a couple of hours or so, so I tried to boot it just once more, with the four chimes and all ... and it worked, booting from the CD with the "C" key held down. I got the memory problem message again, but it ran anyway. So at this point, I decided to do a clean install, which appeared to go just fine. Then I (hopefully) made sure it was set to boot from the HD, and clicked Restart. *sigh* Back to square one ... pulled the plug ... tomorrow I spose I'll try a simple reboot and see what happens. Seems perfectly functional once I get it to boot. So far I haven't figured out how to test the memory, or even find out how much it thinks it has.
