I daresay the battery is very likely the problem. I'm a bit concerned about the memory problem message, too. The machine did indeed boot just fine from the HD this evening, so I am guessing that the battery needs a few hours' rest between boots. Before I shut it down again, I'll see if I can restart from the menu, but I'd be surprised if it worked ... It will be interesting to see if the clock is correct next time I boot it. So, when I open it up, I'll have a look at the RAM ... I thought the previous owner had maxed it, but it only reports 160Mb, which I know is not the max. Would the OS disable memory that's unreliable? Anyway, I'll find out when I open it. I'll have to check my stack of old Macs to see if any of them has a viable battery, as I am on a nonexistent budget right now.
