Remove the two screws that are under that vent cover. Remove the two
screws near the flip up foot by the front of the iMac.
Grasp the plastic bottom and pull it up and out from the back side of

iMac. The front side is held in by tension on the plastic. It will
take a
small amount of force, and you should hear the plastic clips release as
you tilt the cover up.
Once that is removed, remove the 6 (? its been a while, but I think it
was 6) screws that hold the metal shield down. Remove the metal shield,
being careful to slip it off the VGA port on the back (you have to kind
of lift from the front, and slip it backwards as you lift to clear the
VGA port).
After the shield is removed, the entire logic board is exposed.

I'm heading out the doors soon, but will definately try the above this
very afternoon. And I'm very sure that my son will be so happy to have
his iMac back in place upon his study desk once again.
On the side while here, is there any reason to think that a Beige G3's
128Mb pc100 168pin RAM low-profile moduel won't work fine if put into
this model of iMac?, as I've got an extra one of these in my drawer.
