No chimes is a big issue, it may be toast...a bad
motherboard??? This would have nothing to do with a
hard drive or bad RAM.

The good news is; you can replace this iMac with a 400
or 500MHz for less than $100 

A MB would be cheap but it is hardly worth all the
effort to replace it.
