Susanne,
There was a message in the Legacy User Group on Facebook today in answer to a similar query about Windows crashing after trying to use the Legacy Cloud backup. This person said that they had traced the problem to their Norton security software that included a VPN (Virtual Private Network) and it was this aspect of it that was crashing windows. Their solution was to get rid of Norton but it maybe that there is a way to adjust the settings by adding exclusions. They seemed to think the VPN part couldn't be turned off, which seems strange.

Perhaps BitDefender has also added a VPN to their security?

This Legacy Support article lists some of the things that you may need to add as exclusions.

Ian Thomas,
I opened the Device Manager as you suggested and all I saw was a tree of my computer. No yellow exclamation marks or any other marks that would indicate a problem. Am I suppose to do something else?

Of course it applies – it is applies Windows 7 as well.

From comments, I am assuming that you / others have not bothered to do the very simple check in Device Manager? I

I should have added: I'm still using Windows 7 so not sure if Ian's suggestion would work for me.

My thanks to all who have responded to my question, you've been very helpful.

Janette and Linda, while I'm sorry that you have experienced the same problem, it's also a relief to know that I'm not the only one. This issue also started for me after I downloaded a new virus protection program, Bitdefender. I did not have this problem with my previous virus protection program. I also use various backup methods including Dropbox, external drives, etc. Now I must decide whether to keep my current virus protection program and continue avoiding the Legacy cloud or to go back to my previous program.

In appreciation to all,
Susanne
