I understand that they tend to focus on Rei.

 

I never made it past episode 4 of NGE, so I have no idea if there's something specific that prompts this fixation, or if it's just something that people do.

kettle of fish (who you talking about, anyway? Rei? Asuka? I'm not
familiar with the fan community, so I don't know who they tend to
