Hello, it's Peter here and welcome to Thursday’s Levy Letter. I hope your day
is going well and I hope you’ll be able to join me tonight on BBC One at
6.30pm. Lisa will have the forecast today. Plus I’ll have all the day’s news
and also on the programme tonight, we'll be speaking to the woman, who claims
that a phone mast outside her home in Horncastle has left her family suffering
from severe health problems. She says both herself and family have been left
with rashes, vomiting and she says her husband has lost the sight in one eye.
She blames all these problems on this phone mast erected outside her home.
Well, we'll be getting the full story on that one. So I hope you can join me
then.

Also tonight, we'll be looking at today's referendum in Beverley. Today the
people of Beverley are putting forward their views on the controversial plans
for a piazza in the centre of the town. This has been a long running battle
between the residents, local businesses and the council. Well, the residents of
Beverley have finally got their way and almost fifteen thousand people can vote
today on whether or not they want a continental-style piazza in the town’s
Saturday market. Well, we’ll be looking at the pros and cons of this plan and
getting the latest from the town.

And I’ll have the latest on the cruise liner, which has hit the headlines,
because many of its passengers have been struck down with the noro virus. Well
it has left Hull dock this morning and of course, we'll be keeping an eye on
developments on that ship throughout the day.

Look North will be at the Lincoln City ground today for the latest on the press
conference this afternoon that will see the new manager introduced to the team
and fans. We’ll also be looking at the proposed new line up. So I’ll have more
on that one tonight.

Apparently there’s to be no more microwavable meals for one for me anymore!
I'll be getting a cooking lesson today from the top chef at Winteringham
Fields. He'll be here to teach me how to cook a superb summer barbeque. Well,
I’ll give it a go, but I’m not sure if anyone will want to eat it!

Plus, we'll be catching up on our Homegrown children, who will see if their
potato crop at school has yielded a good harvest. And the enigmatic Vicki
Michelle from ‘Allo ‘Allo is coming to our region in a new show. She'll be
joining me tonight for a chat. As always, she’s a lovely lady, so I know you’ll
enjoy seeing her on the programme. So a busy show tonight. I hope you can join
me then.

Emails

Don’t forget if you want to drop me a line about something that you want to get
off your chest and if you want to respond to something you’ve either read in
the Letter or on the programme, then get in touch. Of have you got a problem
that you need some help with? If so, then let me know and give me the details
and I’ll see if I can help for a Leave it to Levy. The usual address of course
is [EMAIL PROTECTED]

There’s a note here from the Withernsea Town Council. This one says,
“Withernsea is once again holding a summer time special and bike-fest event in
the Valley Gardens on the central promenade on Sunday 20th August. This year
the headline band is Dr Feelgood, no less. And I would be grateful if you could
offer a plug to promote this popular event. It’s free and it’s a full day
event, with family entertainment from 11.30am until 11.00pm!” So that’s a big
date for the Summer time special at Withernsea on Sunday 20th August. If you
like Dr Feelgood, then that’s the band that will be playing there.

Pictures

Don’t forget if you’ve got a picture or a photograph that you would like to see
on the Screen on the programme on Look North, then get in touch. If you’ve got
a view of the area that you think is particularly good, then get it to me. Send
it to me either as a hard copy in the post to BBC Look North, Queen's Court,
Queen's Gardens, Hull, HU1 3RH, or email it to me as an attachment to [EMAIL
PROTECTED] And look out for it on the programme on the Big Screen.

Older Divorce

A growing number of break ups in long established marriages is having a marked
effect on the divorce rate. The relentless climb in broken marriages,
traditionally dominated by younger couples, who have spent a relatively short
time together, is being increasingly driven by older couples. The divorce rate
has risen by 9% in four years. This is amongst people that have been married
for more than thirty years. They are now twice as likely to divorce than they
were ten years ago. That’s couples, who have been married for thirty years or
more and they are now twice as likely to divorce as they were just ten years
ago. And older people splitting up have been blamed for fuelling the relentless
rise in the numbers of marriage break-ups. If you’ve got a view on that one,
then let me know.

Survey

As you know we like to have surveys in the Levy Letter. Well, this is a
national barometer finding out the best and worst bits of Britain. Well, their
initial findings have come out with some one liners and I thought you might be
interested. Brits want more chocolates – 71% admitted that eating chocolate
makes them happy. Well, no surprises there. Honey I’ve got a headache – 53%
would choose an extra hour’s sleep over sex! Ok? I’ll say nothing at that one.
There’s bad news for Tony Blair. The Prime Minister was voted public enemy
number one with 46%. Basking in the sunshine was at 25%, good manners was at
23%, which would both make out lives a little easier. ‘Show me the money’ is
the phrase that 33% would love to say to their UK bosses in a survey just out.

Football

If you are following the football, then for England, of course, it’s a big day.
They kick off at 5pm. And I wonder just how many people will be watching Look
North on BBC One tonight at half past six…well… what do you think? We’ll be
having a little test tonight to find out. We’ll be having a text vote tonight,
if anyone is there to talk to us. If you’re not a football fan, then hopefully
you’ll be watching us on television tonight on BBC One at 6.30pm, and cast your
vote. All will be revealed a little later on… cryptic I know, but tune in to
find out more!

Have a good day, join me tonight on BBC One at half past six. And of course
best of luck to our team today, who kick off at 5pm!

Take care,

Peter
