Hello, it's Peter here and welcome to today’s Levy Letter. I hope your day is
going well and I hope you’ll be able to join me tonight on BBC One at 6.30pm.
I’ll have all the day’s news and Lisa will have the forecast of course. Are we
set for a lovely weekend? Let’s hope so.

Tonight on the programme, we'll be investigating the back street tattoo
parlours of Hull. Trading Standards officers are warning about the dangers of
these back street shops as it follows a confiscation of tattooing equipment
from a housing estate in the city. It’s feared that poor hygiene and bad tattoo
methods could lead to outbreaks of diseases like Hepatitis C. We’ll have more
on that story later.

Tonight on the programme, we'll have the latest on the extraordinary court case
in Lincoln of a man caught manufacturing sub machine guns and I'll have the
results of that referendum in Beverley over the controversial continental-style
piazza in the market street. Many people have been in contact with me over this
one and were especially shocked over the interview last night with the
Councillor from East Riding Council. We’ll have the results and the very latest
on that vote by the people of the Parish of Beverley.

Plus, I’m sure you all know my fascination and love of boats. Well, I've been
lucky enough to be invited out with the Humber Rescue team, so tune in tonight
to see that excursion onto the River Humber and beyond!

And he was the BBC's chief political correspondent from 1992 until the year
2000. Well, John Sergeant is coming to Boston shortly to share his many
experiences and stories of his thirty year career in broadcasting and he will
be joining me tonight for a chat first. I hope you can join me then.

Just while I’m thinking about it as well. I mentioned it yesterday, but I’ll
mention it again that if you’re around next Wednesday and you fancy a trip to
the Lincolnshire Show, then we will be there for Look North, broadcasting live.
I will be there with Paul as well, all day and the programme itself will be on
at half past six as always and will be coming live from the Lincolnshire Show.
If you can make it down, then join me and my special guests. Get yourself to
the Lincolnshire Showground – it’s just off the main road into Lincoln. And
that’s next Wednesday. I hope to see you there. That’s Wednesday of next week.

Football

Congratulations, of course, to England for yesterday’s match. If you were
watching Look North last night, then I’m sure you’ll remember we set a little
fun text vote last night. All of the team of Look North were getting
disheartened that perhaps not many people would be watching us last night,
because we clashed with the football. So we thought we’d put you to the test by
setting up a text vote asking if you were watching us! Well, whilst on the air
we couldn’t see any text votes coming in, which confirmed our worst fears. We
see now that you were watching us. I think maybe our computer people here were
all watching the football too, because our text vote machine wasn’t working
properly! Hooray – we see now that two hundred and eighty-nine people were
watching us last night! Thank you so much for texting in! And to those nine
people, who weren’t watching us, but texted in anyway, thank you very much to
you too!

Kylie

There’s great news to report that Kylie Minogue is making great progress with
her recovery. She’s got short curly hair now and she briefly joined her sister,
Danni, on stage, just for a short chat on the microphone. The thirty-eight year
old delighted clubbers last weekend with an impromptu live performance – the
first since she was diagnosed with breast cancer. The twenty second cameo
happened at the end of her sister, Danni’s high energy gig at the Astoria
nightclub in the West End. Kylie Minogue is an inspiration to many and it was
great to see her so well and back to her old form.

Barbeque

Well, we were talking about barbeques on the programme last night when I was
getting a personal cooking lesson from Winteringham Field’s top chef, Robert
Thomson. Well, there’s a very sad story here in the paper in the news at the
moment. A warning against using petrol barbeques was issued after a boy of
thirteen was left fighting for his life whilst his six year old brother was
severely injured at a family birthday party. The youngsters’ mother was also
burnt as flames erupted after a cap of highly flammable liquid was poured on
the garden barbeque. A fire service spokesman said that if he had to give one
tip, then it would be to never use petrol. So there you are. I’m sure many
people don’t, but that’s a very sad warning there to not use petrol barbeques.

Levy Letter

If you’re with friends at the weekend and you know of anyone, who doesn’t
receive a daily Levy Letter and you think they would like one, then do a bit of
publicity for us. Tell them to go to either one of the two addresses at the
bottom of the page, find the Levy Letter link, click on that and get them to
sign up. They’ll get their first Levy Letter, of course, on Monday of next week
and then every day free of charge from then on. I’ll be here to tell you what’s
what and you can also be first in the know for what’s being discussed on the
programme that night.

Father’s Day

Just in case you have forgotten, then it’s Father’s Day on Sunday. So if you
want to get your Dad a card or a present, then today or tomorrow will be your
last chance. So it’s Father’s Day on Sunday. Also on Sunday, I’ve been told
that there’s a Fayre going on in Appleby. It’s Appleby Village Fayre and it
starts at 12pm. Lots of stalls and events in the main arena and if the
weather’s nice, then I’m sure it’ll be a lovely day out. So best of luck to the
residents of Appleby in North Lincolnshire and I hope they enjoy their Fayre.
If you’ve got an event coming up, then let me know and I’ll give you a plug in
the Levy Letter. Email me at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

The Queen

There was a special service yesterday afternoon as you know to celebrate the
Queen’s birthday and it was a national service of thanksgiving really. There
was a marvellous cartoon in the paper of the Queen pointing her finger
addressing the Archbishop. The bubble out of her mouth says, “Keep your sermon
short, Archbishop! England kick off at 5 o’clock!” The people, who do these
cartoons in the paper are just hugely talented aren’t they?

Well, that's it from me for today. Have a very good Friday afternoon and join
me tonight on BBC One at 6.30pm. Have a very good weekend and look out for your
Levy Letter again on Monday.

Take care,

Peter
