Hello, it's Peter here and welcome to Tuesday’s Levy Letter. I hope your day is
going well and I hope you’ll be able to join me tonight for all of the day’s
news on BBC One from 6.30pm until 7.00pm. Do not worry if you are a football
fan, as it does not clash. You can watch the programme and then watch the
football. And if you do happen to miss the programme, you can always watch the
most up to date bulletin on our website. Go and have a look at
bbc.co.uk/looknorth and watch again!

It’s a busy programme tonight. On the show, we’ve got the second instalment of
our look at the life of gypsies in our region. We'll be looking at what life is
like for the gypsies living in the illegal encampments in Lincolnshire and
meeting many of the travellers in their mobile homes. I’ll have more on that
later.

Plus, I'll be talking to the man, who made legal history last year. Former Hull
prisoner, John Hirst, won a landmark ruling calling for prisoners to have the
right to vote. John had previously been jailed for manslaughter, and hadn’t
been permitted to vote since 1979, but he is now campaigning for all prisoners
to be able to vote, saying that the current law is in breach of his human
rights. I’m sure you may have a view on this story and I’d love to hear it. Get
in touch with me today if you want to make yourself heard about this story.
Email me at the usual address of [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Also tonight, we'll be at the trial of David Burtonshaw for the murder of his
stepson, Aaron Smith, who died in a house fire. David is accused of starting
the house fire, which led to the death of nine year old Aaron. Aaron Smith
suffered ninety percent burns after the blaze at his home last year. He died
ten weeks later in hospital. I’ll have the very latest on that case.

A new research project at Lincoln University is underway and curiously enough,
it’s looking into if dogs know their left from their right. Well, it may be
another of these funny useless surveys, but I’m sure many pet owners are going
to be interested in the results!

And my special guest tonight is the hilarious Corporal Pike from Dad's Army.
The actor, Ian Lavender, who also stars in Eastenders, is coming to the region
in a new production of The Rocky Horror Show at Hull New Theatre. It’s a
wonderful show and of course very outrageous, so I’ll be chatting to him
tonight about his new and very different role in the show!

All that tonight on BBC One at half past six. Of course, Paul will be with us
for a detailed weather forecast as well, so I hope you can join me then.

Levy Letter

Don’t forget if there’s someone you know, a friend or a family member, who’s
not signed up to the Levy Letter and you think they would like one, then point
them in the direction of either one of the two addresses at the bottom of the
page – bbc.co.uk/humber or bbc.co.uk/lincolnshire – and get them to sign up.
They’ll then get their first free Levy Letter from me tomorrow. So pass the
word around.

And don’t forget as well, just while we’re doing a little advertisement, that
if you’ve got a problem that you think we could tackle for you on the
programme, then just get the details to me and email me. And the address for
Leave it to Levy to have a chat with me about your problem is [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Lincolnshire Show

I mentioned this yesterday, but tomorrow is the Lincolnshire Show. And if you
have a day off, or if you can get a day off, and you fancy a trip out, then I
hope you can make it to the Lincolnshire Show. Paul and I will be there all day
and we’ll be doing the programme from there live from six thirty until seven.
I’ll have lots of special guests as well and it’s always a good day out at the
show. If you can make it along, then look out for the BBC stand and come and
see us tomorrow at the Lincolnshire Show all day. See you there!

Flags

We were talking about this last night on the programme – sporting red and white
flags from the car aerial or on the house, on the chimney or in the garden or
wherever. And we had a very posh man on the programme called Maxwell. He was
originally from Lincolnshire and he’s now a social commentator. He was having a
real go about it and I was asking for your views and your thoughts on this.
We’ll be reading some of these out on the programme later tonight at six
thirty. So look out for those. So we still want your views on this. Are you for
or against these red and white flags?

As you know a variety of homes (and I have to be careful what I say here) are
sporting flags at the moment around the whole country as well as in our region.
I was reading at the weekend, that having a flag on your car apparently makes
you use up more petrol. I don’t know whether that’s a joke or whether it’s
true, but I read that in a paper.

Also, apparently, a national flag draped on your home is almost as off-putting
to potential buyers as a broken car or furniture in your garden. This is
according to a poll. Some property experts are forecasting a lull in the market
for the duration of the World Cup and they’ve associated it with the flag
waving, particularly for house buying and mortgaging. So there you are. If
you’re trying to sell your home, then do not have a St George flag on it as
it’s as off-putting as a broken car or furniture in the garden. So you have
been warned. More importantly, if you live next door to someone, who has a flag
on the house, then do not expect the same amount of money for your house, than
if the flag wasn’t there! If you are trying to sell your house and someone next
door has got a red and white flag on their house, then you may be in trouble
and you may not get as much money for your house! So any comments on this are
gratefully received! – [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Well, that's it from me for today. Have a very good day and join me for
tonight’s Look North on BBC One at 6.30pm if you can.

Take care,

Peter
