Re: Scenario training!

Good afternoon all,I'm back with my answer to my question, plus the answer to TheCheeseWheel's question. I'll also put another question at the end for you all. But first...A repeat of the question to refresh your memory.Marie arrives to the office on Monday morning and boots up her windows 10 computer, only to realize that she can't connect to even the network in the office.Opening up the command prompt, she runs the ipconfig command. She looks at her Ethernet adapter and sees her IPV4 address is 169.254.0.1, a private IP address.Marie knows that she had a valid connection to the network the previous work day. She is also sure nothing drastic has changed in her system. What is the problem here?A. Dhcp.B. Malware.C. Firewall.D. dns.The answer? . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . The answer is A, DHCP.The reason's simple. When a computer first boots, it broadcasts a message looking for any DHCP servers on the network. Any DHCP servers listening on the network will hear this request, and will send out offers. The computer then requests one from one of the DHCP serversThe last step in the process is acknowledgement. The DHCP server will acknowledge said request from the computer. This goes to plan in most instances where a DHCP server is found and no static IP address is defined. If, however, we're using DHCP and no DHCP server can be found, the computer goes into the APIPA addressing zone.As for the cheese wheel's question, I'm going with driver, and ruling out the nic itself, since restarting the computer causes it to work normally and reconnect to the wireless network.Funnily enough, I actually had this issue myself on a couple laptops. One did end up having a faulty nic, needing me to purchase an external one.Hmm... Question to stump people with... let's see. Think... think... thinky thinky think away... think... away... aha!Joseph gets a call to a small business in town. A year ago, the business set up an array of drives in a raid 5 configuration.Recently, the business has begun experiencing degraded performance when accessing the storage array. What should Joseph check for after gathering details about the problem?A. High disk fragmentation.B. Malware on client computers.C. A secondary power supply.D. A failing drive.Bye for now, see ya all next Sunday!

Re: Scenario training!

Hello,@The Cheese Wheel, it can go either way. I'll throw in a question or two here and there, and you guys can also throe questions at me.To answer your question, I feel like it's a potential combination of 1 or both of these issues, corrupted wireless adapter driver, and or wireless adapter power settings, the former being way more likely to be causing issues than the latter. As for a clue to my question, the range set forth here is called APIPA, or automatic private IP addressing.I'll be back Sunday!Best,Omar, and a helicopter, that's just been circling randomly for the last 40 minutes.

Scenario training!

2021-02-04 Thread AudioGames . net ForumOff-topic room : Omar Alvarado via Audiogames-reflector

Scenario training!

Good afternoon all,So with a few new IT certifications (with hopefully more to come) and at least 300 hours of training under my belt, I'm ready to put these skills to the test in ways very little test-prep materials can.So my request is this. Think of a question, and make it scenario based. I'll provide you an example down below, and let's see how many of you can get it right.I'll come back at the end of every week (if the circumstances allow) to spend a few minutes in this topic and answer some questions and potentially come up with some more questions. That being said, you can post issues your having with your own machine or equipment as well. I'll try and run through with you and see if I'm capable of helping you resolve it.You don't have to make these multiple choice either like this first one is, for added difficulty. So here's my first question.Marie arrives to the office on Monday morning and boots up her windows 10 computer, only to realize that she can't connect to even the network in the office.Opening up the command prompt, she runs the ipconfig command. She looks at her Ethernet adapter and sees her IPV4 address is 169.254.0.1, a private IP address.Marie knows that she had a valid connection to the network the previous work day. She is also sure nothing drastic has changed in her system. What is the problem here?A. Dhcp.B. Malware.C. Firewall.D. dns.Good luck!

A review of the lenovo ideapad 3-14

Hello all,I've got another laptop review for you today. This one in question discusses the Lenovo ideapad 3-14.More specifically, I'm talking about the model equipped with AMD's ryzen 5 processor. Although I myself returned it, I'd like to list pros and cons as I've done in the past with other laptops I've reviewed.prosCheap, it can be had for around $540.Good battery life I managed 6 hours of heavy usage.Quiet, even at the highest fan speed it's fairly quiet.consInaccurate ram advertisements see below. Can potentially hard crash.Processor under extreme heavy loads is unstable.Internal keyboard could use improvement see below.Bad speaker placement.stiff USB ports.Overall, the laptop in question I'd say would work for casual users. If your going to browse the web, IE mobile banking, shopping etc, some light gaming, this would work out great. Many tabs open in firefox would cause a slight performance hit, though.I managed to binge watch rerez tv's channel for about 4 hours while browsing the web. The laptop on battery ran cool to the touch, and the fan wasn't all that loud. It's very easy to drown out by other noise. In regards to audio output, the speaker placement could be better. If you have it placed on your lap is when you will notice the issue the most. The speakers are right under the laptop on the left and right corners, which makes it very easy to muffle the sound.I wouldn't use the internal headphone input if your the type of person who likes to use internal audio for sound design. You get lots of EMF noise through whatever you plug in. If you must, there is no audio processing installed. The keyboard is actually really good to type on. Decent sized keys plus isn't all that loud. Key travel could be slightly better, but it works for what it is.There were two issues I had with it though. 1, no physical applications key. And two, a couple of the keys developed the tendency to squeak. The space bar, and the enter key.Inaccurate ram advertisement this was a big one. The page advertised 8, but you really only got the low side of 5 GB ram. Sure it would show up as 8 installed, though over 2 of those gigs were hardware reserved. The processor itself ran clean and smooth, up until I started trying to use big fx chains. Audio issues and system instability came screaming into the room once I loaded a 14 track production I made a couple years ago that makes most intel processors a little annoyed. Attempts to edit it caused my editor to crash, and even in one instance the machine locked up and hard crashed.Until then, though, small productions and edits in gold wave worked well enough, though I must stress this machine is not an audio editing workhorse by any means. On amazon, it's going for around $540. Nothing about the machine is upgradeable, what you get out of the box is what your stuck with.If your willing to spend some more, the lenovo yoga c740 goes for around $700 $740 on amazon. A review of that from me will be out in the coming weeks.Take care all, and stay safe.*edit 1. Fixes keyboard section to actually make sense.*

Where to go next with my music collection

Where to go next with my music collection

Hello all. There's no real use denying it my Sansa clip mp3 player isn't holding up all that well anymore. Sure it still functions, though the battery is pretty shot and a couple of the media keys have a mind of there own.I'm in a very similar situation that I think Dark was in many years ago where all of his music and audio books were organized to his liking and meta tagging them would prove to be an interesting task.Currently, it spans 19 gB, and most of it is obscure things that aren't available through streaming services. Ok, maybe more like 98 percent, Not to mention they are in a variety of formats.Things I have thought of:If they still exist, use one of those files apps that lets you upload things to it and brows my collection that way, this would work, though I'm at the mercy of whatever file formats it supports. Plus, I'd rather not ware out my phone just to listen to music for hours at a time on long car rides.Use an old phone. Definitely an option and is something I could do.Bye another sansa_clip zip. Is an option, though by this point they are ridiculously hard to come by and any used ones will probably have similar issues mine is having.Something else completely. I'm gonna need to figure out something soon, I don't know how long this thing has before it no longer takes a charge. As stated previously, a streaming service is out, since the vast majority of my collection can't be found there.

Re: Seeking a good pair of headphones

Hi there.@Jayde, the main reason I wasn't a fan of the AKG k240s was they kept wanting to ride up my ear. What I mean by that is, I'd put them on, adjust them to fit me well and then I'd go off to do things. Eventually though they would begin to tighten, resulting in them pushing up on the lower part of my ear. They don't have the traditional method of adjustment where you have clicks for each one adjustment and it stays in place. The method of adjustment found in the k240s doesn't work for me, though maybe it would work for somebody else. What it is is you have a piece of wire that serves as the adjustment track, and you can move the earcups freely along it to fit your head. What this means though is there's no locking mechanism in place, so eventually, they will begin to re-adjust themselves. They are decent headphones, though not for me.

Seeking a good pair of headphones

Hello all.I'm currently in the market for a good pair of wired headphones. I'm looking for the following qualities.Studio grade. I'm often cleaning up recordings and making other things, and so I need a decent frequency response.Comfort. I will be wearing these for 6+ hours at a time with breaks in between. I'd prefer not having a ridiculous clamping force if at all possible. No wireless headphones please. That includes bluetooth.Modularity, optional. I'd like to be able to replace, ideally, the ear cups, and the audio cable in the event I need to.And all this for at or under $110.I've actually already tried the AKG pro k240 headphones, they were a good pair, just not for me.Let me know your favorites!

I forget, didn't this once go as the Neshta virus? Also, malwarebytes can remove it. The downside to having this virus is even if you think a file is safe, chances are it's infected by the virus itself. Btw just let it remove everything it finds, even if you think it's safe, yes this includes bgt games.

Hi there. If this person gave you a .tt file, you can click on it and there should be an open with team talk option, eventually, somewhere in there.Otherwise, all you need is the server information. It's address, port used, and user name and password if one exists for you on that server, or if guest logs in with user name guest or something.Currently on my server, the way I do it, it's open for everyone to log in, you don't need any user account data. If I need to do admin things, I log in as admin with my admin account. Also, if you want your own account, the person who manages the server has to do it for you. You give them a username and password you want and you log in with it.Hope this helps!

Hi all.In light of slower than normal activity down in my spam folder, I'd like to know what's the funniest or most ironic spam message you've gotten?I'm counting all methods of communication, not counting the obvious chat s*x bots/meet singles in your area/improve your personal wellness today forms of spam. Please also remove all personal forms of information, like your emails, user handles, etc.I'll start off. Probably the funniest for me was a reputable car dealership here in South Florida seeming to take a genuine interest in wanting me to buy a car from them. And, I apparently had a used Honda thing from 2014 that they would allow me to trade in exchange for there nicer newer car.As it turned out, they had a colossal mixup in the database they use that sent out emails to past customers; I was removed from the database that same day, apparently. Not quite funny but interesting has anyone noticed at the bottoms of some spam emails seemingly random sets of words completely unrelated to whatever the email is about? I think it's to do with search filtering, so that if you search through your mail that message will appear. That's my guess, anyway.Your turn!

in gwave 5, and most likely 6 as well, you can use wildcards. Example **scream1**.Or, what I've been doing lately is browsing my fx directories, press enter on sounds I think I need, play them in the background thanks to a media player, have the open dialog open in basically any daw, if I find the file I want, copy it (ctrl+c) then paste it right into the file to open edit box.Hope this helps!

Re: Suggestions for Switching from iOS to Android (Pixel 4)

Hi.Motorola did something really strange when I upgraded to android 8 to 9. I can no longer use talk back fingerprint gestures. For me honestly it's iOS for many of the reasons people have already stated here, though for me there's one more and that is seeing AI.In my opinion I feel that seeing AI works more efficiently than envision does on android, believe me I've really tried! to help it read things I need it to read.Anyone remember google goggles? I feel like I've time traveled back to 2014 every time I try envision.I don't hate it though, there are people who say and demonstrate it works great, clearly there's something I'm doing wrong. Also, re update distribution. I personally dislike the way 3rd parties distribute device updates. Android 10 was already in the hands of the general public when the moto g line started getting android 9 pushed to North America; That update was supposed to be here somewhere in the first quarter of 2019.Google assist beats the hell out of siri any day. Chances are if siri has 0 idea what your blabbering about all she does is expect you to find it yourself. Which is sad, because in the days of iOS 8 all the way up to 10 she used to be really useful. And believe me, there are many people who share similar thoughts on this subject. One plus for upgrading is I actually gained a dedicated gesture to call up google assist, double press the power button twice. The old one which was press and hold the home button still works. If your phone has software buttons you will understand why that's a bit of a hassle to execute. But even more simplistically than anything mentioned here is auto speakerphone! My iphone has an unfortunate glitch that prevents it from doing this sometimes but why nobody has added in an automatic speakerphone when you lift the phone from your ear is really strange.Screening calls is one hell of a feature I miss. For those that don't know what that is, allow me to explain. If you get a call from a number you don't recognize, you can hit screen call and a (very natural sounding) text to speech voice says something along the lines of: "Hello, this person is using a screening service from google. Go ahead and say your name."You don't hear the google side of the call but you still hear the caller, but they can't hear you as far as I know. Once that happens you get a screen where you can select a response, one includes to take control of the call and also a response that says "Please remove my number from your call list. Thank you, and good bye." At that point the call ends.A funny thing though, I personally haven't gotten past the hello this is a screen service bla bla bla lalalalalah all that many times, because telemarketers hang up pretty much instantly once they hear her.Take care all, and happy holidays!

This isn't exactly new I've actually been running this for a few months now but figured I'd announce this here as well. For those who enjoy listening to background noise or livestreams of static locations feel free to add this one to your list. This is a simulated environment in which trains will pass continuously. Trains range from short passenger trains to big and thunderous freight trains.Currently there is just under two hours of pre-recorded samples the system will choose from with more coming as I record them.To clear up any possible confusion to come, no this is not software or any kind of game, you do however use software to connect to it, such as a web browser, media player etc. Also take note I'm accepting recordings! Please read the page for more information. There's probably something else I'm missing so I'll just direct you to it's section of my site. https://phantomcrafting.com/trainradio.phpEnjoy TrainRadio, and Merry Christmas and happy holidays!

Re: Our most amusing idiotic stories where we screw something up horribl

I mean there's the time I went to sit down onto a chair that wasn't there.Oh and let's not forget this classic. So, 7th grade, after playing for the middle school band spring concert I was headed back to the car. My family got distracted and I kept going onward I was tired, it was a late night. Finally I reach our car, reach out to pull the handle and instead of a handful of the metal door handle I instead ended up with a handful of railing... belonging to an ATV used for security and transport. I was holding onto one of the safety rails next to one of the passengers seats. As I turned around the number of people interested in my current doings increased and I wanted nothing more than to be swallowed up by the earth at my feet. Then there's the time I swapped drives in my desktop and forgot to plug the cables into the drive and then kept wondering why nothing was working. Then there's the time my VI teacher, first day on the job so he didn't really understand the inner thinking processes/methods of a blind person, though this was more my fault than his but still pretty amusing. Was headed down to the cafeteria to get some lunch. The doors to the cafeteria are these traditional double doors with a divider in the middle. To get to it, you have to climb up a flight of stairs, which can be said for a lot of the buildings there. As I was climbing up the steps he opened both doors wide and, well, somebody got owned. Some people say you could actually hear the thunk from the courtyard! Lol!Oh, and then there's this! Family and I were headed down to convention to see an old friend of mine, been friends for years but never actually met in person. We walked towards the escalators and things got hilariously terrifying. So I do the usual tests with my cane, find the next step, find out which way it's running. Great. Awesome. Then I step. On two steps at once. With one foot.My balance got thrown off and the hole time I was riding the damn thing I was bent backwards clinging onto the railing for dear life, looking vaguely like something out of the matrix.Yup, that sure was fun.Keep the posts coming this is a great laugh!

Years and years ago I used to know how to do very basic sewing, though it's been half a lifetime since I've practiced and I've since forgotten.Would anyone happen to know where I could find some resources for getting back into it?And yes, I am well aware that repairing broken stitching on things can sometimes be more costly and tedious as compared to going out to buy a replacement. great earbuds for general use?

Hey there,So as of now, wearing earphones for any more than 30 minutes is starting to hurt my head, no matter how comfortable they are. Not to mention the amusing fact I now have a sort of permanent wave in my hair from wearing them for a while lol. It's a trend! Anyway, I'm in the market for decent earbuds with generally good frequency response, ideally, not too many clashing highs and a bit more low-end as compared to most earbuds.Durability isn't a factor since they won't be moving much, if at all. Just from my ears to my laptop and back again. Also whether or not they include a microphone doesn't matter to me.I'd prefer wired, though I'll take bluetooth suggestions too. Thanks!

some clarification about phantomcreations

Hey all,This will be a somewhat long post. If you don't feel in the mood to read a lengthy post, I won't blame you for picking another topic. Some time last year you might remember I took my website (phantomcrafting.com) down, due to personal and familial issues.I'll do the best I can to clarify what happened, but I won't go into exact details. So in short, my own mother had cancer. The fear that struck into me made my mind go a bit out of wack, as one would expect. And so, when I was a bit more sane and could process things, I decided it would be better of me to shut down the site and stop all projects on it. My apologies if I kind of left in a hurry.I did this in an effort to spend as much time with her as I could. Once the website went down I no longer felt obligated to tend to it and the contents contained within, and continue paying for a server that was no longer in active use. When I shut down the site, I had calculated the domain to expire in a month after. I'd then recently moved it over to namecheap and didn't realize they could renew it for another year when I did it.And so, several things. First things first, mother recently went for testing, and has been determined cancer free! I was rather overjoyed at the news honestly. It wasn't something I was expecting and so it came by complete surprise to me. All is well and she seems healthy and happy. For weeks now, namecheap have been emailing me to remind me of domain renewal, and I was thinking of getting back into developing more small games for you guys, but I just wanted to clear some things up in case I do end up renewing the domain. I'm not sure if I will renew it yet, I still need to find a decent server/hosting plan, shared vs vps, etc. That is more or less everything I have to say at the moment, however if there are any further questions, I will do my best to answer them. Thanks for reading, and have a great weekend!

Re: a question regarding audio gear

Hi again,@G-rad, I failed to mention it's really left heavy. I can kind of see why it's doing that, though I failed to mention it. At the moment I only have one dynamic connected to the recorder.I did see, on amazon, a y-splitter cable that takes two 3 pin xlr cables and ends in a male 3.5MM output connector. I was going to purchase two dynamic microphones as a stereo pair and connect them directly up to the recorder using said cable, however I'm not sure if that's a particularly good idea or not.

a question regarding audio gear

Hey all,So here's the thing, I have a dynamic microphone and an olympus ls-14. I know that dynamic microphones require no power to work, though even through a mic level input turned up to extremes, it's still really quiet. It is most definitely audible but it's got some serious noise that I know is not fault of the microphone, this microphone can be made to sound really great if used correctly. The way I have this connected is a 3 pin xlr cable that terminates in a 1/8 inch or 3.5MM output cable that connects to my recorder. This might be a cardinal sin, though it's the least awkward way I can get this connected to the recorder. Lol.I think the thing to do is buy a preamplifier, though I've yet to find one that is not a USB interface, don't want to be tied down to USB, or battery powered, I also don't want to be tied down to a wall outlet, neither do I have the electromechanical experience required to wire up my own battery module, which most preamps I've seen on the market under the $200 margin require.I have in fact seen the sound professionals ones on there website but that at best only provides one single input. For future expansion I'd like at least two inputs for a stereo dynamic pair. Can anyone suggest what I should look into? New recorder? New preamplifier? Something I've not mentioned? Like I said, I'd rather not be tied down to a USB interface or a wall outlet, this setup will be used on the go, and waiting a minute and a half for a windows or Linux machine to boot up to begin recording is absolutely not an option.I hope this setup and explanations make some kind of sense? Thanks everyone!

Re: A question to those who have/had an ssd drive on desktop/laptop

This isn't really something you have to worry about these days. Chances are unless it's a really crappy drive or if it's a one off bad unit, the drive will still be usable as your preparing to get a new laptop some 5 years later.Although, years ago I did sell off a lenovo with an ssd in it who's blocks were only very slightly beginning to fail. I had about 400 something mb less than when I first installed it, and that would have been in 2013. For years that ssd hopped from machine to machine as I upgraded and I eventually, as I said, included it with a new-ish lenovo machine.Hope this helps!

question regarding reaper and envelopes

hey all,So this is an issue I've been having for a very long time, about as long as I've been using envelopes in reaper, actually.I do a lot of mixing of sounds in reaper, and in order for them to mix properly I have to disable ripple editing to prevent fading where it isn't supposed to fade.Only problem with that is any envelopes I define anywhere absolutely explode out into a billion versions of themselves spanning a period of time. I think I can see why it does it, but how do I make it not do that?I need to be able to mix sounds reliably and also not fuck over my envelope points, which is really the only reason I adjust the ripple editing behavior. Anyone out there having similar issues and know of any workarounds?FYI, this happens with any envelope, volume, effects, pan, etc. Thanks!

Re: Switching from IOS to android, any tips?

A lot of people seem to have problems with soft braille keyboard but if you can get it to install, it works wonders.I'm using a motorola moto play 6 and I seriously can't imagine myself going back to iOS for a very long time.I've been trying out envision AI for the past two days and although it's been rather hit or miss, I do see it as a great substitution for seeing AI on ios. I don't know if it's because I'm still running it on a trial, though it does seem to be missing a few things, like color, light and currency detection.I use eloquence mostly because it is the only synth I know of that supports reading emoji. I wish there was a modern port of eSpeak that did...That being said, I can't really recommend motorola. They've done away with there update policy completely, and now at this point your lucky if you get security patches. If you don't care about that, then sure, go with the moto play 6. Otherwise, look elsewhere. Also, why in the world has everyone fallen in love with samsung? I could get a used essential phone, or one plus 5 for two samsung galaxy s8 phones and get pretty much similar performance. Also if you intend to use soft braille with a samsung device, not even recent phones give you enough precision that the keyboard needs to work so there's that option gone. I'm lucky this phone I use does. That being said, there are a couple things to get  used to. Samsung is the only company that does the two finger double tap, and as far as I know, it's only specific to samsung's own apps. Also one last thing you might have to take some time to get used to is precision. Where as iOS is a lot more forgiving, talk back still requires some serious precision with your gestures that comes with time.I hope this helps you in some way. If you can find the right phone that isn't too loaded down, and that has decent hardware, you will have an amazing experience with android.Good luck!

I'm learning a thing or two here, though I think this is something new to think about. These days low-lifes don't really need to exhaust or even consider the idea of violence to take you on one hell of a ride. The very thing you are using, right this moment, the thing that's allowing you to read this very post, the thing that lets you brows this forum, the thing that lets you play games and make video calls, yup, that thing. The internet has made it so much infinitely easier for lowlifes to ruin lives that one need only know what they're doing and before you know it, your several tens of thousands of dollars in debt and your credit score's being eaten alive faster than I can eat a hole box of pizza. Lol.With that being said, knowledge is power, and if your able to defend yourself great, but like a few have said, the greatest knowledge is knowing when not to use it.I hope this helps someone out there. It's probably not a post that fits the topic, or one you probably didn't want to read, but it's somewhat relatable, vaguely.

I was a ffreshman, first day, actually. I had already had weeks of o and m training around the campus, so I already knew how to get around for the most part. This was my aid's first day on the job and he was very, very very new at this. A lot of it wasn't his fault but still we had a good laugh about it afterward. We were headed down to the cafeteria for lunch. Everything was going well, even got up the stairs to the building just fine. I hadn't a perfect track record of climbing stairs without tripping over my own feet back then. Hahaha. He and a friend of mine went ahead and opened, not one, but both double doors. I still don't know how I did it, but I managed to run right into the divider between the two, at a fairly quick walking speed too. When I hit it it rang throughout the courtyard for at least a good 10 seconds, enough for everyone around to look up and go, damn, that was loud!Roflrofl.Or there was the one time, I used to carry around this big ass backpack with wheels, made transporting my books easier. And so our campus had an elevator since it had I believe 3 floors.Me and my aid got in the elevator though he went before me. Some how and I'm still trying to this very day to figure out how I did this! One of the wheels on my bag hit the, alarm button on the elevator panel. Thankfully it just went ring ding ding a few times, it wasn't tied to a phoneline like they are these days. But the thing is if anyone knows the old classic dover alarm bells they are loud! I should go back there one of these days and get some ambiences and things from there, see if the elevator is still the same or if it's been modernized over the years.

Re: How do I rid myself of mcAfee once and for all

Meh, for the price macbooks go for these days, no thanks. I could get way more powerful hardware and a less closed source OS.Also, safe mode is an option you can try. The idea is to have it not run at all when your pc runs so you can nuke it without problems. Msconfig and services.msc isn't usually enough to make it not run for normal startup.Note that natively you won't have sound in safe mode. Apparently windows 10 is supposed to let you use narrator in safe mode though I haven't tried that. There is a, sorta hack-ish and kinda complex way to get sound in safe mode and it still works for windows 10. I wrote an instructional on this very subject. If you want to go about uninstalling it this way, you can find my topic about it. Please note, it's very likely to fail if you don't know what your doing. I assume no responsibility if you ruin your computer.I managed to nuke norton this way. Hope this helps!

This is great, but I'm still not understanding how I'd use the GPIO pins other than take this little thing, buy this other thing and plug this here. What? Where? Why? Lol.Any parts for the most part, I can source with ease all day long, though putting them together for use with the pi is what I need help with.I'm not comfortable throwing away $35 so I want to make sure I don't fry the pi, even though baking pie is good. Especially the smell of it. I mean the food item, lol.

Getting started with the raspberry pi?

Hey guys,For those of you who don't know what a raspberry pi is, it's basically a low cost, tiny computer. You can apparently do all kinds of things with it. And no, it does not run windows like your used to, it runs linux, mostly. Most of the blind tend to ssh into them, I believe. If memory serves me right the audio output is too unreliable to do anything useful. That aside, I don't yet own one, though I've been considering one since the 3b was released around two years ago. My question is this. Are there any resources written for the VI community I can read up on that will allow me to take advantage of the GPIO pins on the device? I would really like to use this thing to it's full potential, and I see it kind of silly of me to purchase it, since I already have a linux box, even though it, um, doesn't really do much, lol.99.999 percent of the tutorials out there regarding this tend to be diagrams and using LEDS with these devices, which is, well, kind of something I can't use, for obvious reasons. Lol.I still may purchase one, for nothing more than to use it as a web testing area, and or a NAS hub and retire the ol box.Your thoughts?

Re: Suggestions for a New Laptop?

At the current moment, I'm using an acer laptop. It's an Aspire E5-576G.In truthful honesty it's not a great laptop money can buy, but it's good enough if finances are tight. The audio is clean, minimal bloatware actual even less so than microsoft, and the software provided is actually useful. One app they give you is so you can back up your network drivers should you decide to downgrade to 8.1, which I may do, honestly, but that's for another day.The keyboard does have a number pad which was necessary for me, but some of the keys on the keyboard are in weird places. If you want to know more on this machine, see my review, which doesn't reflect my opinion on this machine as of late.Lenovo are a pile lately. Although the audio is clean, unless your ready to spend several thousand dollars on a laptop, your better off getting even an acer. Lenovo aren't as well built and well tuned as they used to be IMHO.

Re: realTech audio issues

Oh god, dell has this thing called waves maxx audio pro. The guy I linked to has a dell which is why he created the repository. Well, this is one of the reasons.Pretty much once a laptop has audio enhancements, there is almost always little or nothing you can do to disable them. I got lucky in that my acer has a disable all checkbox, which actually disables the very minimal enhancements that were active out of the box.Post 13, you uninstall the driver for the audio device including the driver software, from device manager. I really don't recommend the default audio drivers though, as they aren't all that great. That, and you almost always lose the ability to use headset microphones.

You may try looking for disable all enhancements under sound settings. Most don't have it, some do.You could try installing drivers for a machine that isn't yours as long as it's realtek. This particular link is for a dell machine provided by @TristanB1206 on twitterThere is a link to hopefully generic realtek drivers but I don't know if it would solve your problem.https://github.com/distantorigin/xps-enhancementsHope this helps!

a review of the acer Aspire E5-576G

Hello everyone,I finally managed to score a new laptop, with pretty decent specs for a lot less than you would think.Over all, it's a great laptop, pretty good battery life, with a full sized keyboard, all in a 15.6 inch shell. So the pros:*Good battery life.*plenty of connectivity, 3 standard USB, 1 USB c, ethernet, HDMI, sd card, cd/dvd reader/writer.Full sized keyboard with number pad.*Pretty quiet.*PCIE based 250 gb solid state drive installed standard.*About as generic a sound board your going to get this day and age on a laptop.*The ability to add a secondary drive, mounting bracket not supplied. The negatives:-For it's size and configuration, it's somewhat heavy.-Fingers tend to slip off keys when typing.-Charging adapter on the right hand side, right below the dvd drive when it opens, therefore blocking it.-Some reviews state the internal drive runs somewhat hot.-Battery gauge isn't the most accurate, they normally aren't yes, though this one seems to fluctuate considerably as the battery is discharged.Honestly and having been using this machine for a little over a month, I rather like it. I paid $641 for it on amazon, with an intel core i5 8th generation. The minimum clock speed is somewhere around 1.8 ghz, and the maximum it can clock to, is around 3.4.It has 8 gb of installed ram, expandable up to 32 gb.The built in sound card is about as generic your going to get this day and age, so if your looking for that, here you go.Thus far, I've had very little trouble with it, the only being my fault. When I purchased it, it came with windows 10 build 1703. I upgraded it but accidentally unplugged the power cable, therefore causing an incomplete install. It runs rather quiet as well, there are vents for the fan on the left hand side where most of the air seems to come from. All except the one right hand USB port are USB 3, which I personally use for things like wireless keyboards and headphones. The body is somewhat heavy and made pretty much of plastic, and there is no touch screen, if your into that kind of machine. It also does not have a fingerprint reader, though there is apparently a model newer that does.As for the ability to install a secondary drive, Acer advertises that you can install a second drive. I have yet to try this, however it will fit a 2.5 inch sata drive. You will need the mounting brackets, as most of these machines do not come with them.I hope this helps someone who may be looking for a new laptop! It's honestly a great machine thus far, but there are a couple things you need to know of. In reading this review, you should be able to gain enough knowledge to decide if this machine is right for you. Thanks for reading!

Re: KNFB reader, is it worth it?

Seeing AI all the way honestly. It tends to read things quite nicely. Knfb did as well, even on a cheap android handset, although to me, seeing AI is the better deal honestly, seeing it does way more than knfb does. I always keep seeing AI on the short text slide if I'm reading computer screens and trying to read product packaging. It almost always works, as long as there's light for the camera to see the text, and there's not a glare. The sceen preview is quite fun to play with, even if it isn't the most accurate thing, the results it produces areamusing. If you need help with getting it to read something, please do let me know, I'll put up a demo on my site if someone needs it.Also, yes, it is possible to download a geo-restricted app, however the process is a bit interesting. Somebody already mentioned it, so thus I don't feel I need to speak of it more than the previous posters have. It's how I found out space is cold, rofl.Hope this helps!

Re: I'm looking for a decent laptop, any suggestions?

Heya all,I can not thank you guys enough for the feedback posted. So far the most recommended line of machines are latitude. I actually had a latitude e6410) and rather loved it. The battery life was something beyond this planet. With an ssd and even on high performance on windows 7, I got somewhere between 11 to 14 hours. Then again it was a 9S battery, not sure of the capacity though.I don't know if you guys missed it, however I still do not know if any of these recommendations have audio enhancements that are not easy to disable. Well one, actually.Acer I'm avoiding like the plague though, until I have great reason to know the quality control issues are as good as, say, what dell used to have. I've heard way too many horror stories to risk a very large investment. I'm not trying to offend you there, just saying what's on my mind about Acer. The dell consumer versions of the business models are absolute terrible plastic piles of garbage that run oven hot. That said, I would never recommend going into a big box store and purchasing a laptop there anyway. You never really know what your getting unless you research in advance, however that begs the question, do they have the laptop you want in stock by the time you arrive? And yo, lenovo x260. I want!By the way, I did get the chance to check out a lenovo yoga something. It's a tiny thing, slim enough to make even a macbook air jealous. And the battery life and performance are about as good. And yes, it does have a touch screen which is really fun to play with NVDA. The machine belongs to a friend of mine so, I will be returning it back to her tomorrow. Thanks guys!

What I'm looking for.Nothing big, under 16 inches screen size is ideal. At least a core I5.No audio enhancements, or an easy way to disable them without disabling other features such as trrs enabled microphones.Decent battery life is also something I'm looking for, as this machine will be used on the go.Ideally I'm trying to stay within the $300 $600 range, so if we can do that, that would be great.Everything else storage, ram, graphics, touchscreen isn't important, so whatever it is or isn't, is fine, as long as those requirements listed above are met. Thanks guys!P.S., yes, I know what sound cards are for. However this is a laptop I'm speaking of. I shouldn't have to lug around another accessory.

Hey guys,So I picked up a dell inspiron after my lenovo kinda died, and I am loving it so far. I don't even mind windows 10 honestly, and I am one that doesn't accept changing things very often. The only issue? It comes bundled with this waves audio enhancement that makes your audio sound really weird. This also applies to screen readers, and makes them really hard to understand. It uses a realtek sound card for it's built in sound. What I've tried:disable all enhancements is not available anywhere in the windows sound settings.Disabling the services that control the enhancementturning off enhancements individually, which does not include waves audio. Why would it?Randomly clicking around in the appDeleting all references I can access, while in safe mode. The only real way I've found to disable it is to uninstall the realtek drivers and delete the software that goes with it from device manager.I can then use a really old driver I got from hp that does give me generic realtek drivers. Or I can just use a generic driver provided by microsoft, by not installing any drivers after rebooting. The problem with doing this is, when I plug in my headset, which has a microphone built in, the system does not change the microphone to the microphone on the headset, and uses the built in one in the laptop. So what I would like, is a way to use my headset without ending up with waves back on my system. I know I can purchase an external sound card and bypass all of this fuss, though honestly I've done this for years. I don't really see a need to, I already have one for editing audio and gaming.

Try the following. Hopefully you've memorized the steps for logging into your account, and have administrator access to the machine.Try launching msconfig, and once you do, press alt n. That should select normal startup. I believe pressing enter right then and there should put you in one of two situations.1, and best for you, is the exit restart. I believe it's alt r to restart.2, and possible if you've disabled the prompt, is back to the desktop. In that case you will have to ensure your at the desktop, hit alt f4, and press r.I hope this helps. If not, see my guide on safe mode, that should at least be enough to get you out of whatever startup mode your in. Highly unlikely your in safe mode though still, some useful information can be found there if this does not help.

untested working solution for safe mode windows

Warning! I am not responsible if this bricks your current copy of windows! Please test on a vm or disposable copy of windows!Hi all. I am certain you have heard of the windows safe mode operating environment. As you may be aware, there is no feedback by default.A recent run of tron, a command batch cleaning utility made me determined to fix this problem. And thus, I came up with thisPlease note, if you don't know what your doing, just stop now, pick another topic. This can seriously break your current windows installation and require a restore. This is only tested on windows 7.First, start by going to device manager. Run it directly if you want, devmgmt.msc.Find your active device under sound, video and game controllers. Press enter on it.On the window that appears, go over to the details tab, and find the value called driver key. Copy it.Close all the windows that were created in the process and open up notepad. Paste in th
e value.Convert all the lowercase letters to uppercase, and remove the \0008 at the end. What you want is the device ID in braces.Keep that handy, then open up regedit. Navigate to the following: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SafeBootChoose networking and expand it. Create a new key with the device ID you obtained. In it's default value, enter Sound, video and game controllersNavigate back to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SafeBoot\Networkand create the following keys: MMCSS, audiosrv, and AudioEndpointBuilder. In each of there default values, type ServiceClose regedit, open msconfig and go to the boot tab.Select safe mode, shortcut alt f, very important remember this if this fails, and select networking.Exit msconfig and allow the machine to restart. You should now have some form of output. Please note, NVDA is the only screen reader tested. Braille support also remains untest
ed. It should be a matter of following these instructions to obtain braille output if desired.Safe mode is not a mode that is supposed to be used constantly, so please, do not enable absolutely everything. That's what normal startup is for.To exit safe mode, open msconfig, navigate to boot by pressing ctrl tab, press alt f, safe mode should now be unchecked. An hour later, and I discovered a solution was on my device all along. It's an app called NoteMaster lite. It's not perfect but it will have to do. For anyone who tries it, be aware that syncing to dropbox results in docx files, so you will need wordpad if your like me.Hope this helps!

iOS workflow for writing a novel?

iOS workflow for writing a novel?

Hello all,Recently I've decided to pick up writing again after not doing so for a while and have begun writing a novel, for fun really. There are times I'm not at my computer and would like to add to it, and I bring either my Macbook or my iPad.I was interested to know what tools I can use to keep the file in sync? I'm interested in keeping it in sync with my iPad and pc.It will probably only be me composing and editing this file, so multi user syncing per say, isn't really something I need too much.I've tried dropbox on iOS, but there's a slight problem. It crashes on my iPad. Hard. It doesn't really seem to have a pattern to it's crashes, except when going through files and folders in my dropbox. My dropbox doesn't have much in it so it does not have much to go through.Again, I'm really just looking for an app I can use to keep the file in sync and either provides a built in editing functionalit
y, or allows an open in feature and can some how deal with the new data, although I forget if any app can perform that last one at all. Thanks!

Re: need a USB driver for my laptop

hi,I'm mostly going to try to focus on getting your USB working.First: Do a scan with malware bytes. If that comes up empty, you should be OK.second: assuming you still have an active internet driver (you do if you can read this with the affected machine) go to hp's websiteBetter yet, open up your preferred search engine, and search for your machine's drivers. You generally have good luck searching for string such as HP DV6 drivers windows (insert version here).Try only to use hp's website, unless you know other areas of the web you can get reliable, clean drivers.Next, install them. It should be like installing everything else, so there shouldn't be too much of a problem. If you can, restart the computer if the driver installer asks you. Finally, I recommend double driver, when all your drivers are in good working order.Keep that backup safe from any malware, and the next time you go to install wind
ows, installing drivers should be a lot easier. If your pc is like mine, and doesn't accept USB devices without a driver, burn the backup to a CD. Don't forget to include the program along with it.Hope this helps.

@ishan,Even with those sensors installed, there's still some work involved, and there's a lot more work than just installing them.Furthermore, there is really only 2 quadcopters that are available with the option.the Heli max 230 SI I believe, and the walkera infra x.So in summery. Just installing infrared sensors will not allow you to fly any quadcopter without worries.

Re: My unconventional hobby

Hi Chris,Quadcopters are not completely silent. The make a unique sound that each quadcopter has, based on it's type. There are three main types of driven quadcopters.1. Gear driven. These sound somewhat like a blender, or an electric mixing device. The pitch also depends on it's size and throttle input.2. Direct drive. These sound kinda like formula 1 cars, although not nearly as loud, but you get the idea. They are high pitched and somewhat quieter than gear driven quadcopters.3. Brushless inhoused. These usually vary in sound, and no two quadcopters even of the same type sound the same if they use this type of motor and prop system.Yes, this is a remote controlled vehicle. The pilot is on the ground, piloting it from the remote.I can usually keep it from crashing because as I've mentioned previously it makes noise. Based on where the noise is coming from, for the most part, I can tell if it's going to hit somethi
ng and make corrections to fix it.Also, quadcopters are usually not very fragile. Some particularly beginner rated are very tough and have what are called propeller guards. I think you could guess what they do.Also, as for the open field thing, the larger ones I fly in an open field, but the smaller (palm sized) ones I fly indoors with a varying amount of obstacles. As I've mentioned, it takes an extreme amount of patience and care, but eventually, you mostly get the hang of flying one.I'm still nowhere where I'd like to be I'm still struggling with finding out what direction the aircraft is facing, and trying to guess the current height is also iffy.

Hello everyone. For those of you who follow me on twitter, this is old news, so you can pick another topic.Everyone else, let me explain something I thought you might find interesting.Since May 19 2014, I've developed a strong passion for flying rc quadrocopters. These are remote controlled  aircraft that use multiple spinning blades to gain lift. A lot of you might think I'm calling the bs card, though I can tell you this is absolutely 100 percent true.Quadcopters are used for a great many applications, such as surveillance, transporting small objects, acrobatics, or racing.I fly mostly as a hobby, and I enjoy every time I get the chance to fly a quadcopter. All the ones I fly I own myself, just as an aside.I believe that any one of us blind people, with a great amount of patience and care, could take part in this hobby. No part of this experience is at all accessible by nature, but it just so happens that the funda
mentals of basic audiogames apply, for the most part.If any of you have any questions, I am more than happy to respond. I am in the process of adding things about this to my website, and will come up with something soon.Have a great day everyone!

If you defrag an ssd, kiss it good bye. From what I know, when you defrag an ssd, it puts a lot of stress on the flash memory and in turn, shortens it's lifespan dramatically. This hardware is kinda old with at least 6 years of runtime, and I'm not the original owner of this machine I bought it secondhand.I did notice this start happening when I started using my nas. Only problem is, now its constant whether or not the nas is connected I'm thinking it's still trying to establish a partnership between the computer and the nas.I could try drivers, but this machine has not had any driver updates since like 2014 or so. I think the hardware is just had it, which sucks, but that's for another day.Anyway, thanks for the help!

Its worked great for several years with almost no hardware issues.I have the OS on a 120 gb Crucial SSD, Intel I5 2.5 ghz, 8 gb ram, secondary storage bay for storing files. The issue is windows explorer becomes laggy throughout a session of windows, until I restart. It used to be I could have a session open for days, now its just an hour and usually considerably less.I've checked for malware using malwarebytes, currently defragging all my hard drives and not my ssd, as its a bad idea to do that to an ssd, cleaned up my startup entries, this windows install is no more than about 3 months old, disabled and re enabled the windows indexer, currently running defragler in the background, cleaned up the registry with cCleaner, cleaned up temp files and cache, still no improvement.I did notice this start happening right around when I accidentally enabled offline files for my nas
, of which I got a few weeks ago.I've ensured offline files for that drive were turned off now, but I have this sinking feeling its still trying to establish a partnership between the drive and this computer.any ideas? I have almost no more ideas of what I could do, aside from just reinstalling the OS but, ehh, I really don't want to go through with it unless I have no other option. Please do not recommend third party file system explorer apps, as windows explorer has worked for me for as long as I've used windows based computers. Thanks!

Most modern olympus recorders have the option of accepting AC power via a powered USB connector.Take a standard USB connector, plug the large end into a power source, take the smaller end, plug that into the recorder. When it asks you which method it should try and use for USB, select AC Adapter connection. The beauty of this is that if your power source goes offline and you have batteries in the recorder, the recorder doesn't care it just starts using the batteries.

Mac, garage band, external midi keyboards?

I was lucky enough to obtain a macbook air 13 inch 2013. I've been learning the OS still to this day some 2 weeks of ownership.Pretty efficient operating system, is what I have gathered thus far. I haven't heard the fans at all, except for once, but I was really pushing it.I bought garage band this morning, and have a couple midi keyboards lying around that are in good need of use.I tried my Korg nanokey, the system recognized it, so I went on to try and play with it.Nothing I tried would get a sound produced when I pressed keys. Install drivers from Korg, create software tracks, Set focus to them, Ensured the volumes were good and loud, and actually made sure the keyboard was properly secured to its cables and was powered on.Something to note If you will pardon the pun), about the Korg nanokey. When one usually plugs one of these things in, its ready to go, no need to fiddle with setting up midi hosts or nothing, its ready.Next, I tri
ed my Yamaha dgx640. Much of the same result, but the system didn't even try and recognize it when I connected it.By complete accident I stumbled on the onscreen keyboard and played with it, so I at least know I can get sound output from garage band, and its not a sound volume issue.Has anyone got any ideas to what I could try?Again, this is a macbook air, 2013 edition, running mac OS 10.11.Thanks everyone.

Re: accessing IPhone as external device on windows?

I did once hear of a program that allowed you to do exactly this. The problem was that it required the phone to be jailbroken and required a bit of consideration on your wallet.I never did try it though, for many, many many many reasons.I don't like ringing bells or something like that, but honestly, your going to have a better time trying to get what you want out of the phone from android. Unless you have plans to use iTunes and stick with the way it sets up your music, you do have some options still. There was once an app called UbiDisc, but unfortunately I can no longer find it. It was the best you could get in getting external storage out of your i device. There are some great file managers out there, just do a search on the app store for that. The way the majority of these apps work, you download or buy the app, it gets put on your phone, you open it. You go to a settings screen and configure connection information. You then open a firefox wind
ow and type in the address given to you from the app. There is sometimes an authentication that must be provided. Enter it and proceed. When your logged in, you should see some basic file management tools. To get these files you upload onto the device onto your pc, connect via itunes or internet connection and go to where you saved them. That's about the best your going to get unless you jailbreak, some recommend it, I do not, though that is just my personal opinion. If you have one set up which every geek should (yikes), there are apps that allow you to view network computers and there contents on the local network.File browser by Stratispherics? Is one such app. I know for a fact I butchered the dev team spelling rofl. There are also dedicated storage discs you can buy, they act similar to the file manager apps, with the only exception being your storing/viewing on the storage device itself. However, even for very basic units, they are somewhat
pricey. In addition, most require you to be connected to the wifi network they provide. As both an avid iOS user and an intermediate android user, I can honestly say, this is something apple did not do too well with. I can understand why they made the OS so closed circle in a  way, but you do have to do some jailbreaking and know what your doing to get free from the restrictions of apple, mostly.Best of luck to you.

woah dude. This is damn impressive!\Never would have thought to use bgt for this sort of thing... Lol now try and make something that automatically turns the door knob when you enter the passcode. In theory all you would need is a bit of rope, two strong servos, and something to help push the door.

Re: a new teamtalk 5 server I've created

Hello,The easiest is going to probably amount to trying to host it at home on a windows machine, if you only want to host it while your radio show is streaming live.If your not wanting to set one up, I, and probably other people, would be more than happy to provide you with a private team talk server of your own.If you want to set one up, its easy to do if you know what your doing. Here's how it works.First grab team talk client and server. If you already have an installer for team talk, opt to install client and server.Next, click start, programs, team talk version, team talk version nt service, install team talk nt service.A command prompt window will open. Try running as admin though, instead of pressing enter on install, press the applications key and select run as admin. If it asks if you want to install, press y then enter. Now, just follow the prompts. Unless your on a linux box or your setup requires it, IP binding should
not be required.Ports I always have trouble getting the default ones to work. If your like me, then change it to something like 6789 or even 1234 which mostly work for me.The rest is pretty simple to set up. If it works fine, you will see team talk service installed successfullyNow, the tricky part. Here is what most people have trouble with.If windows firewall asks you to allow or deny the new service, allow it through.Teamtalk service or even the app, never work properly with windows firewall off, for me for whatever reason. Now, you need to log into your router.Press windows plus r, type cmd, then enter. In the prompt you will get, type ipconfig.Pay attention to. Local IPV4 address, and gateway. The gateway is what you will need to log into your router. If this information does not display first try, type the command in several times until you get the information required. Now, type exit.Open up a internet explor
er/firefox/google chrome window. In your address bar, type the gateway address into it.It could look a bit like: 192.168.0.1, 192.168.1.1, 192.168.2.1 or something like that.If you entered your gateway correctly, log in.If you don't know what the default credentials are, go find them on a website portforward.com could probably help.Assuming your logged in, now is kind of where your on your own for a bit. Most of the routers/modems I've dealt with have had port forwarding under advanced options, security, port forwarding. Most routers and modems vary though, so you will have to do a bit of experimenting to find it. Look in its documentation if it has one which most do these days. Now, assuming you've found it, let's get dirty.Specify start port the port you set in your team talk configuration.Specify end same as start, but I always do 5 from the start port. So my port ranges look a bit like 6789 to 6794, just
to be absolutely sure. It's going to ask you for an IP. Some have a device selector, but most don't. If it does, find your device in the listIf it does not, type in the IP you got from ipconfig, the IPV4 address. For port protocol select tcp/UDP (I always do that.) Some routers call it "tcp/UDP", or "both"Now, you should be able to click save, or done, or apply, whatever the router calls the button to confirm your changes. In most cases it will take a few seconds then take you to a screen to review the ports that you have set up.Click log out, but don't quite close the tab just yet.Go to whatismyip.orgGo to just below the second heading, and copy the IP address there. It looks like a sequence of numbers just like the IP's you seen before, only it can vary what it looks like, depending on where you live, your ISP, etc.Copy it, and close the tab. Distribute this IP to your listeners/friends/who
ever will be joining the server.Something you should note. If power goes out or you pull your device from the network for an extended time this will break the IP configuration. All you will need to do is edit the rule in your router and update it so that it has the new IP.I did not and will not cover static local IP's, as that is a lot more complicated. In addition, your public IP can sometimes and will change from time to time depending on your ISP.To compensate for this, I use no-ip and the respective utility (dynamic update client), to give something like unstoppable89.ddns.net out, instead of my IP.Setting both of these up is beyond the scope of this article, but I suspect you should be able to work it out yourself.

a new teamtalk 5 server I've created

Hey all,I thought I'd post this before I head off to nap, after which I'll have to get up to go to work, w.I've created a team talk 5 server people can connect to. Though I have a few scripts to ensure its pulse is constant, I can't speak positively about our weather.Note. This is team talk 5 only. If the demand is high enough I'll create one for teamtalk 4.Everyone is free to join and upload files to the server there's about 4 tb of storage space available to all of the users. The info is as follows.host address: Unstoppable89.ddns.net.Port: Tcp: 4450.Port: UDP: 4450.Username: Leave blank.Password: Leave blank.I myself do not have a full day to monitor the server, but I'll pop on when I get a chance.Again, this is intended for team talk 5 clients only.Enjoy the server. Suggestions on how to make the server better are welcome!

Re: urgent comp help required

Try safe mode. And do not, I repeat do not, place any removable media into the computer, unless you plan for it to get infected and lost. At that rate, try not running anything other than safe mode and or your anti virus.I've heard of some people having luck with safe mode in terms of getting audio, if you can some how manage that, you may wish to scan your entire pc, using a (fresh) copy of your preferred anti virus.Malwarebytes has always worked wonders for me. Though AVG and malwarebytes work pretty well hand in hand. Though, something I think you already know, don't run more than 1 anti malware service at the same time. Also, I heard of a virus that broke out in a shared folder a few months ago, if it is the virus I think it is, malwarebytes is probably your only solution.Putting school computers on shared folders not related to school activities is not a good idea, by the way. Neither is it recommended to use it as things you would do with you
r primary one, for this exact reason.I hope this may help you.Oh, and before I go, do scans on everything, and yes, go through and delete what it finds even if you determine its harmless in your own mind. It is better to lose something you can redownload, rather than trying to salvage it and end up with another infection.

Re: A stupid problem that I'm facing in GoldWave, can you read and help?

Unless your done with a project, never, ever, ever ever ever save as a lossy format. If you want to get a current work in progress out to someone, save a lossless copy of it first, then save as either ogg or mp3, but honestly I much prefer ogg.Flac is good too, but I don't know if it compresses down to as little as ogg or mp3 do, nor do I know what it sounds like if you keep adding to the file and keep resaving the file.So in short, if its not complete, save uncompressed, wav.If its ready to be released, first save as uncompressed, then, save the finished compressed copy of it.Hope this helps.
