Re: [slim] Wimp app is really not that good, is it...?

2011-09-11 Thread OppfinnarJocke

Seems I'm the only one using the Wimp app... I guess Wimp is not a big
success on Squeezebox then...

But no wonder. The Wimp app is frigging stupid (pardon my French :)).

If I search a bunch of tracks, how do I play all of them without
manually adding each one after the other to the playlist. If I click
one track, only that one track is played. And if I now click another
one, playback of the first one is interrupted and the next one plays.
If I long click (I'm using the Logitech SB-app on Android) the same
thing happens. Clicking Menu just reverts everything to the main
menu, where I expected a menu with options such as add all tracks to
playlist to pop up.

In the Remote Control from MySB.com, there is a +-sign with a tool-tip
saying Add to current playlist. Sadly, it doesn't work, nothing is
added to the playlist.

This is all rather unusable, actually...

Re: [slim] Wimp app is really not that good, is it...?

2011-09-10 Thread OppfinnarJocke

To log in to your account on the Wimp home page, you have to click Try
for Free. Well... eh... I don't want to try for free, I already pay, I
just want to log in. There is no other log in button/link to click
on...

Finally I did find that out and managed to set up a playlist. Next step
is to have that playlist streamed to my SB. Just open the Wimp app and
get the stream going. Yeah, right... I get the message that
We're sorry - you can't connect to Wimp from another device while using
it on your Squeezebox. Please try again to use Wimp on your Squeezebox

But... I am not already using it on my SB, using it on my SB is just
what I'm trying to do. What is gong on here...? OK, maybe it means I
cannot be logged in both from my computer and from the Wimp app, that
makes some kind of sense (though Spotify didn't have this problem).
Simple fix, just log out from Wimp on the computer.

Yeah, right... no log out button/link anywhere in sight! So I close
down everything, the whole computer. Still no go... same We're sorry
message. *sigh*

Anyone have any ideas?

[slim] Wimp app is really not that good, is it...?

2011-08-15 Thread OppfinnarJocke

I subscribe to the music streaming service Wimp only because of the
native app for my Duet. But that app is bug-ridden, at least under my
usage characteristics, and it is quirky.

Right now, simply trying to list New Tracks, my Duet controller
re-booted itself. And this has happened several times.

A quirky thing is that if I play an album on Wimp and press Add to
Favorites, that album is not added under Favorite Albums on Wimp, which
seems reasonable to me, but it is added under Favorites on MySB.com! How
long did it not take for me to find that out...

Anyone else experience these types of things with the Wimp App?

[slim] Wimp app... so stupid...

2011-07-23 Thread OppfinnarJocke

Anyone but me using the Wimp app?
For sure not the developers...

This has bugged me for a long time, but today it really made me flip!

Do the following:
1. In the Wimp app search for your favorite artist
2. You get a number of artists, albums, and tracks. Looks good...
3. Click Artists, and then the artists name, and then that artists
albums
4. So you get a number of albums listed, click one of those
5. You get the songs of that albums listed
6. Click one of those
7. You get a page listing the title, artist, album etc...

But how the f to you get that track to play? The only thing that allows
you to get further is to select the artist again, and then you're on the
round-a-bout... back to Albums...

This is on my Duet controller, and/or on Squeeze Commander. Something
is not the way it should be here. That Wimp app is seriously
dysfunctional, and the people developing it should be sentenced to five
years of using it before being allowed to touch anything but
themselves...

And Squeeze Commander *messes up the menus on my Duet controller*, as

set it back to English. This gives me all-English menus. But, the
moment I open Squeeze Commander on my phone, the menus on the

Is Squeeze Commander trying to be overly clever? If so, it doesn't do a

OK, this explains why Squeeze Commander messes up the menus on my Duet

Swedish-English mish-mash on the controller. I can set my SBC to
all-English by changing the language to Swedish (or whatever) and then

Why would you send the phones locale to the server? I have MySB and SBC
set to English, that should determine what language I want to use, not?

What you try to do here is not good for two reasons, I think:
1. It doesn't really work, what comes out is neither all-Swedish, nor
all-English, but a horrible mess.
2. The phones locale has nothing to do with the Squeezebox' language,
not from my point-of-view, at least.

The previous version of Squeeze Commander worked ok, in this respect,
please let us (at least me :)) have it back the way it worked earlier.

flattermann;629048 Wrote:

No.

I could live with Squeeze Commander on the phone being all-Swedish, as
long as:
1. it was truly all-Swedish, and not the mess I get now, and
2. it left the controller and MySB be so they remained English.

Thanks.

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] SqueezeCommander 0.9 for Android

2010-12-29 Thread OppfinnarJocke

Ever since the latest update of MySB.com (version 7.5.2?) it seems to me
that SC 0.9.5.1 has problems communicating with MySB.com. Anyone else
experiencing this?

For the last half year or so I have exclusively been using SC (on my
Android phone) to manage my Duet system, the Duet controller being
close to unusable with all its communication problems. This last week,
I find myself turning to the controller instead of SC, more and more
often. The controller simply works better (when MySB.com is up an
accessible, which is another issue). SC all too often simply claims
that there's no player attached to the server (MySB), and/or that the
play list is empty. Or it shows an empty Favorites list, while at the
same time (exact same time, I've tried it several times) the controller
can get the Favorites list from MySB just fine. Waking the phone, it
typically takes two or three tries to get the communication between SC
and MySB set up correctly.

As already asked... anyone else experiencing similar things?

OK, thanks, so it seems SqCfg will solve my problem, and I have a Froyo
phone (but a HTC Desire though, so maybe, maybe not, will test) but I am
a little concerned about the requirements about MUST be connected to
wired LAN, that flattermann wrote in the first post of this thread. I
won't ever have my player connected by wire, no way.

And no, SvrPowerControl is not for me. I always forget to do what I
have to do (direct the player to MySB.com) before putting my SBS-laptop
to sleep, so that app wouldn't help me. Thanks for the tip, though.

If I have my player connected to SBS running on my laptop and I shut

I can start up SBS and then, from within SBS or by the Duet controller,

From what I understand, this functionality is not implemented in
SqComm, that's fine, but are you saying that it can never be? (EDIT:
Sorry, now I see, you say until this is implemented in SqComm, ok

I'd really like to ditch the Duet controller, since it has loads of

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] SqueezeCommander 0.9 for Android

2010-10-19 Thread OppfinnarJocke

I searched this thread but could not find my exact problem, please
direct me if this has already been answered.

I had SBS running on my laptop with the player connected, playing and
being managed by SqComm just fine. Then I accidentally turned off the
laptop, and eventually the music stopped.

When I then tried to connect to MySB.com, SqComm connected but also
complained that No SqueezeBox connected to this server, please connect
a SqueezeBox or choose another server (or similar). But I could find no
way to connect my player to MySB.com through SqComm, I had to use my
Duet controller for this (and happily it worked, this time).

What am I doing wrong? Surely SqComm has a way to tell MySB.com to take
control of the player. Or not...?

You set up a *static IP* for your SBS server computer. This you do in
the router. You tie the computers MAC-address to a specific IP-address.
Exactly how this is done, depends on your particular router, look it up
in the manual.

You *absolutely* must get a router. Using a switch which directs all

trouble; not only with DSbridge, but with all squeezeboxing...

Even a cheap router is ok, Netgear WGR614 has worked great for me.
Others will recommend other routers, there's a wiki-page somewhere that

Re: [slim] DSBridge - A simpler way to stream Spotify

2010-06-23 Thread OppfinnarJocke

I *may* be that Spotify now explicitly accesses
C:\WINDOWS\System32\DSOUND.dll, instead of relying on Windows to serve
it the dll (and hence get the one in the Spotify dir). This is just a
guess, but it sounds possible to me... I am not sure how to work around
it, though. Anyone have any ideas?

Note that on W7, the windows file is named dsound.dll with all lower
letters (just as DSBridge).

2010-06-23 Thread OppfinnarJocke

avbryt;557369 Wrote:
The DSBridge file is named DSound.dll not dsound.dll in my spotify dir,
 is yours only lower letters?

Mine is all lower letters, yes. But then I've compiled mine myself. The
important thing is what path shows for the dsound.dll in
ProcessExplorer.

The way I understand it, the dsound.dll supplied by DSBridge, wraps
Windows' system32\dsound.dll, and grabs teh output from
system32\dsound.dll, re-compresses it and streams that out to SB. When
a windows app (like spotify.exe) asks windows for a dll by name (like
dsound.dll), windows looks first in the dir of the app, and i it finds
the dll there, it serves the app with that file. If it is not found in
the app's dir windows looks elsewhere, and would eventually (if
DSBridge's dsound.dll was not available in the spotify dir) finds the
dll in the system32 dir. But, if the app asks explicitly for
C:\Windows\dsound.dll, it will get exactly that file and this would
then bypass DSBridge's dsound.dll.

There may be more detail to this, but from what I know, this is
essentially how it works. And this may also be the reason why it used
to work, but no longer works with the new version of Spotify.exe; it
*may* be that the old version simply asked for dsound.dll and then
got DSBridge's dll, but it now explicitly asks for
C:\Windows\dsound.dll and then bypasses DSBridge. My guess...

but stored on my HD, if I try to play those I only get the first few
seconds and then the audio shuts off, but Spotify keeps moving its
cursor. And I only get this problem when streaming through DSBridge,
not when listening on the computer.

If I start such a song playing on the computer and then invoke DSBridge
it works, until I manually change song. If I just let it play it works.

Strange...

I should have tried to see whether it works or not before I ask. I will
 try tomorrow.)

I looked at the code... As it is written now it requires lame to do
(re-)compression, it will give an error message (Could not load
lame_enc.dll) if it cannot load the dll. It would be possible to
program around that, but I guess FLAC would be the best choice (see
toby's post). I'm looking at it, but I don't know the FLAC interface
well enough, yet... If I get around to get it working, I'll share. In
the meantime, someone knowing these things better than me, please give
it a go, it will be appreciated.

Concerning compression... Spotify streams in a compressed format
already, right? So, that extra edge would already be compromised,
not?

The quality loss incurred by (re-)compression to 320 kbps mp3 is
negligible, I think, but yes, FLAC would have been better. Somewhere in
this thread chp mentioned that he would work on using FLAC instead, but
it seems he hasn't gotten around that yet. The source code is available

It seems to me something was changed at the MySB.com end. When I run
Spotify+DSBridge over SBS, I get artwork fine. When I run over MySB.com
I get no artwork (but song info is correct). I have filed a bug report
for this, and I assume that fixing it for internet radio will also fix
it for DSBridge.

I deliberately posed it as an internet radio artwork problem, since I
think that would have greater chance of getting fixed. The problem
could always be blamed on DSBridge or Spotify.

You can do it two ways. Either:

1. You create a favorite link in SBS, edit it and (manually) enter
http://192.168.xx.yy:8124; (where xx.yy is of course your local
servers specific IP). This link you then use as an ordinary favorite
link.

or

2. You log on to your MySB.com account, and create a favorite link
there, edit it and (manually) enter
http:/192.168.xx.yy:8124/#slim:noscan=1 (where xx.yy is of course
your local servers specific IP). This link you then use as an ordinary
favorite link.

You can have both, one on SBS and one on MySB.com, they need not be
named the same. The first option needs SBS running (of course) but it
introduces more lag, while giving you correct artwork on your
controller. The second option allow you to stream Spotify without SBS
running, and hence with less lag, but artwork is not shown properly (it
used to, but something at MySB.com broke that recently).

My dsbridge.ini says the following (the default) so this should be ok:
[SPOTIFY.EXE]
MP3BitRate=320
HTTPPort=8124
TitlePrefix=Spotify -
CoverArt=1
CoverArtX=0
CoverArtY=-275
CoverArtWidth=234

Anyone else seeing this?

I don't understand what it is that you cannot do. Either you:
1. connect your SB via SBS to spotify via DSbridge, or you
2. connect your SB to Spotify via DSbridge directly.

For 1, you have an appropriate favorite link in SBS, for 2 you have the
favorite link on MySB.com.

Both those approaches are explained by posts in this thread, so there's

nor my squeezebox remote. Also, SBS now reports 192 kbps stream...
Is this a problem with SBS 7.4.2?
Anyone knows? Can confirm?

Ah! Yes, of course... just google. Why didn't I think of that...

Thanks for the link Siduhe. Wasn't my problem, though. But I restarted
SBS and that fixed the issue I had.

[slim] How do I search...

2010-02-01 Thread OppfinnarJocke

My SBS gives me the message your player was not found. So I tried to
search the forum for posts including this message, but the search engine
insists that was is too short a word, and not found means I want to
find post that do not include the word found. And this is the same
whether I put the phrase into quotes or not. What am I missing...?

Re: [slim] DSBridge - A simpler way to stream Spotify

I've now got spotify up running under windows 7 and got it to stream to
my SB3 with dsbridge. My problem is that it every 3-40seconds stop and
starts buffering. The spotify-streams are 320kbps CBR, MP3 Internet
 Radio.

And Spotify works ok (no audio interrupts) when streamed through your
computer speakers? That is, when DSbridge+SBS is not running?

If Spotify is ok, then one thing you could try is to give priority to
background tasks. This you do on XP (IIRC) in Control Panel System
Performance Advanced, and on Win 7 Control Panel System Advanced
System Settings Performance Settings ADvanced.

Are you on a laptop? Maybe disabling the ACPI (battery controller)
could help. This you do in the Device Manager.

BTW, IIUC, the 320 kbps is what DSBridge on-the-fly-converts to and
sends to your SBS. If you have the free Spotify, you only get you
something like 168 kbps, I think. So, even though SBS reports 320 kbps,
this is a 168 kbps stream converted to wav and then to a 320 kbps
stream, thus it can never have higher quality then 168 kbps (but I think
that's acceptable).

Sorry if I am missing something discussed earlier on, but why are you

Only US residents can play full length songs.

Does DSBridge also have a buffering lag when you start a song too?

Yes, DSBridge lags at start. I guess it has to, since it decodes the
Spotify stream into 320 kbps mp3

Holy Cow! This works like a charm. I got it set up with no hassle at
all on my Win7pro x64 lappy; worked straight out of the box. Thanks a
heap for this. Great initiative, and great implementation. Installation
instructions by ted1001 are spot on, thanks.

Now I suddenly see a reason to pay for Spotify Premium... and I guess
I'll have to change my signature :)
