This happens when pressing F1 or starting the help from the menu. This affects a few users; and it works for most. So my question is what is different between the two groups. I have a suspicion that this could be related to virus checkers, exotic patches that only some of us have applied, other software that interferes etc. In other words, I have no clue (yet). At this time, I do not even know what questions to ask. OS version, etc. If the help fails for you, there is one experiment you could do. After renaming the files (!!!) , use the version 7.02 help in 7.03 and use the 7.03 help file in version 7.02. This way we can determine if it is something in the help file or how the help file is used. [Dx4win] DXCC Submission
I have decided to submit for a DXCC award!! I have also joined LOTW, and have submitted some 5000+ QSO of which 96 are confirmed via LOTW for DXCC. I have not previously submitted any QSO's for DXCC, so I am a DXCC Virgin!! Now how do I extract from DX4WIN details of these calls that are suitable for DXCC submission? [Dx4win] LOTW
Dear All, First of all many thanks to all that assisted me, in particular Jim, I now have it sorted. I had wrongly gone to export date from the main DX4WIN window (you know, where you find preferences - setup parameters)and not the Logbook window. For those thinking of going down the LOWT route I thought I would share the advice given to me: 1. It is necessary in setup parameters, QSO tab, to have the label box set to Lab + Upl or just Upl. 2. From the log window, select Export for LOTA, down load to a secure sub directory and give it a name that means something, (e.g. maybe include date of latest submission?). If you haven't exported before then the number of entries should equal the log size! Upon completion you will be asked if it can put the date into the UPLOAD DATE field, say yes and all QSO's to be sent to LOTW will be marked accordingly. Thus when you're ready for the next upload, all previously submitted QSO will be ignored. Clever eh?! I found I was ~1300 out, some how earlier QSO's had been not marked for upload. This can be corrected, on a global basis, by going (from the logbook window), labels then set upload flags. Maybe before exporting to begin with, its worth doing a check to ensure all your entries are thus marked. Go into your original log. Use F8 to search for Upl=N then Filter-Count. This is the number of QSO's to be uploaded. Then search again for Upl-Y then Filter-Count. This is the number of QSO's that have already been Filter-uploaded. AGAIN I say this is for someone who has not uploaded before! I am now awaiting my Digi Cert from LOTW/ARRL and I am set to be up and running. Dear All, I use HRD for rig control and that has a built in logging programme. However I prefer and thus use DX4WIN! (It's the best!!). [Dx4win] DX4Win on Windows Vista
Craig, I have been watching this thread from afar, many thanks for taking it to final conclusion! I would be interested to hear from other people about LPT ports and COM ports. I am aware Vista does not support these ports only USB. So my question is, if one uses a USB CI-V cable (for example), then the software supplied produces a virtual Com port even though it is connected via a USB port. Will Vista accept this??? 73's de Tony G8DQZ -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of K0CF Sent: 14 February 2007 16:10 To: dx4win@mailman.qth.net Subject: RE: [Dx4win] DX4Win on Windows Vista Roger et al, Thanks for the tip on right clicking on the DX4Win icon... A little further amplification on this technique follows. If you right-click on the DX4Win shortcut icon, a context menu will pop up. Select the last choice on the list, Properties. In the window that opens, click on the Compatibility tab at the top, then click the check box labeled Run this program in compatibility mode for:. Now select Windows XP (Service Pack 2), if it is not already selected, in the drop-down list. Finally, at the bottom of the dialog box, check Run this program as an administrator. You can also click the Show settings for all users button and make these changes for whomever may be logged onto the PC. Click OK and you're done. If you have more than one shortcut to start DX4Win, you will have to apply this change to each of them. After doing this, DX4Win does run under Vista, although you will get a warning message from Windows each time you run it. I cannot comment on the availability of the LPT port, since I have never used that port for ham radio purposes, and my new Dell computer has no LPT nor COM ports. Thanks to all of you who have contributed to this discussion. [Dx4win] HRD
Dear All, I have had the Ham Radio Deluxe (HRD) software for some time but until having met the author and attended his demonstration at the RSGB's HF convention this last weekend, I had not used it too much. Now I have up loaded the latest version (its free) and I think its going to be great for remote operation! With the help of Erik SM0JCA I was able to configure two virtual com ports which allowed DX4WIN to communicate via HRD, while HRD communicated with my rig/computer. This gave me the advantage of DX4Win's great logging abilities (and antenna switching / rotator control via DX4WIN) but also, at the moment, complete control of my rig (ICOM IC 756 Pro II) from my computer. Later this will lead to remote control too. HRD also has logging software buts its reporting facilities are not as good as DX4WIN's. However it has two very useful functions (only 2 I have found so far, maybe more!!): 1. If you call up QRZ.com from within the HRD logging software then all the data from that site can be brought in to the QSO details. Name, address, locator etc. etc. 2. Providing you have location of the station you are talking to (bearings or locator code) then the push of one button brings Google Earth up and one ends up seeing the station's, you are working, location. Maybe a gimmick but great fun! (obviously you have to have Google Earth software on your computer). It would be nice to see at least (1) above and maybe (2) above included in DX4WIN, is this possible?? 73's de Tony G8DQZ

[Dx4win] re installation again
Hi all, Back to an earlier posting. Some time ago this topic was discussed and resolved. Unfortunately due to a hard disk problem I cannot retrieve the necessary information. I need 2 LPT ports, on a windows XP machine, one for ARS (rotator control) and one for band decoder (ON4OAI). ARS goes to LPT1 and works no problem, XP assigns this a regular address which ARS can read. Using a PCI card for the second LPT port, XP assigns this some 4 digit address and in my computer calls it LPT3. So via DX4WIN, preferences, control, I select ON4AOI as band decoder and LPT3. It didn't work before, until someone told me about editing the portmap file in the save directory (this is a notepad file). One can then allocate digits to represent the LPT ports. I am using non tech language here but some one directed the reflector towards a web site that would calculate the necessary entries required for activating this second LPT port. For example on my previous installation the portmap file looked like this : [LPTMAP] LPT1=888 LPT2=5288 LPT3= Does anyone remember this?? What I am trying to achieve is to use the band decoder to select the appropriate aerial for the given band in DX4WIN's QSO window. Appreciate any comments... 73's de Tony G8DQZ
[Dx4win] re installation
Dear Jim, May I pick your brains?? My computer went strange over the weekend and to cut a long story short I had to reconfigure and re install the operating system :(. I will shortly download DX4WIN again and replace the SAVE directory with my back up made just before the computer problem. So I will install every item from the save directory into the new save directory. My understanding is that now DX4WIN will be back as it was before?? Please confirm. One other point, do you remember the issue with a second LPT port under Windows XP, it would allow manual configuration? This was resolved in a recent update of DX4WIN, is that file (text file) within the save directory?? I forgot where it was? Hopefully it was one of the files I backed up in save directory? Thanks in anticipation of your assistance Jim!!! 73's de Tony G8DQZ
[Dx4win] QRZ delay/lockout
Hi all, Has anyone had this problem?? I have DX4WIN (V7.01) programmed so that when callsign is entered, I hit F3 and callsign / manager lookup window opens, I then hit return and web page opens directly to QRZ.COM, to that callsign's page. All worked fine until recently, now when I push return, DX4WIN freezes, then after 30 - 60 seconds (ish) eventually the web site window opens. What causes this delay/freezing?? Before it worked instantly?? Would appreciate peoples comments... 73 de Tony G8DQZ
[Dx4win] Internet Callsign Lookup
Dear Art, Further to posting as below, first part I have resolved, if I wish an address label to be printed for a direct QSO where there is no QSL manager, then I press F3 and in pop up box, go Alt + m, and in the resulting pop up box paste the address. Then when printing labels, address label (as well as QSO label) is produced. Looking in DX4Win QSO info window, it appears QSL manager is same as QSO callsign, however this is internal info and not printed on QSO label. So that's resolved (I think) Would appreciate peoples comments on second half of my question. THANKS! 73's de Tony G8DQZ Art, Thanks for info, OK I have done this and now when I print QSL labels, all those going direct, where there is a QSL manager, now result in two labels being produced, (1) for QSL card with QSO info and (2) address label for QSL manager. Great and thanks !!! Clearly I only need address labels to be produced for direct cards. So now any direct card with a QSL manager prints off an address label. So how do I automatically print off an address label where the contact does not have a QSL manager??? Which file keeps this information within the save directory of DX4WIN, because I assume that when I am upgradeing the software (and QSL manager updates?) I need to save this information?? One final question, if I may. With preferances for external data, I have it checked. For Callsign look up I have : http://www.qrx.com/callsign?QSL= By hitting F3 and return, a web brousers opens giving me contact information. For QSL manager lookup address, I have : http://www.qrz.com/ If I have highlighted QSL manager and hit F3, pop up box appears, if I then hit return nothing happens, I am not directed to QRZ.COM to locate managers details. Any thoughts?? Hitting F3 while in the logging window will bring up a window showing the results from (A) and (B). If you then hit Return, it will bring up your browser that will display the results from (C). What I gather from this is that DX4WIN cannot extract data from the QRZ.com web site, but it can from known-format databases on your local system. This makes sense when you think about how difficult it would be for DX4WIN to duplicate the HTTP functions necessary to access a web site and then to parse through all of the web site noise to actually identify where the name and address are. What it can do, however, is invoke your browser and direct it go to QRZ.com to display the appropriate call sign information for you to interpret. What I do is use both QRZ.com and GOLIST databases on my local computer and then call up QRZ.com on the Internet to look for any last minute changes. 73, Dick -- Dick Flanagan K7VC NV SM E-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ___ Dx4win mailing list Dx4win@mailman.qth.net http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win -- Duane Calvin, AC5AA Austin, Texas http://home.austin.rr.com/ac5aa ___ Dx4win mailing list Dx4win@mailman.qth.net http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win -- Alan Zack Amateur Radio Station K7ACZ Official USCG Auxiliary Comm Station Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Quality Engineer, The Boeing Company, Retired Aviation Chief Warrant Officer, U.S. Coast Guard, Retired U.S. Coast Guard, Always Ready, Always There Every hour, Every day, Around the Clock and Around the World SEMPER PARATUS http://gocoastguard.com http://www.uscgradio.net http://www.comm-one.org ___ Dx4win mailing list Dx4win@mailman.qth.net http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win

[Dx4win] Band decoder
Hi all, My dreams were answered with the latest version of DX4WIN V6.04 which came with the ability to control a 2nd LPT port under XP and thus use more than one device which need LPT ports. In my setup, LPT1 is the rotor control, and LPT2 now controls my band decoder (ON4AOI) via the computer, rather than from transceiver output (ICOM IC756 ProII). Using the transceiver was never perfect as the rigs output control voltages were not reliable. So controlling the band decoder from LPT2, and when also using the cluster spot window, with no station selected in main window, the band decoder receives message to change antenna. So I am on, say 20m, tuning around, having not yet entered a station, the band decoder receives the message that I am on 20m and selects the appropriate antenna, fine! Then the spot comes up on say 80m, the band decoder detect this and for a second or two changes antennas, then reverts back to 20m. If the next spot is 20m, no problem, but if next spot(s) are different frequencies then click, click, click off it goes. Is the any way that the software (controlling LP2, band decoder) can ignore band selection from spot cluster window, while still accepting band changes made directly from the transceiver?? OK simple answer is to write something in main window (i.e. station callsign, single letter all more) but. Would appreciate peoples comments 73's de Tony G8DQZ

[Dx4win] Version 6.04 available
Dear All, Some general advice when upgrading. As the months and years have gone by I have many sub-directories with each versions files. If I upgrade this latest version right on top of the previous version then this would upgrade all files?? Beforehand I would save all files from the save directory. After upgrading the latest version on top of the previous version, I would then merge the various files or simply replace all files with those saved?? [Dx4win] Solved with v6.04! Multiple PCI parallel ports under Win2Kand WinXP
Larry, This is music to my ears! I have been trying to do just this for so long now that I had given up. I need to control ARSWIN rotator and ON4AOI's antenna switch. (I do not use a parallel port with DX4WIN) Any suggestions as to how to configuer for this hardware?. My LPT1 (mother board is 0378, and this works fine for ARSWin). So now I need to use LPT2 for ON4AOI's antenna selector, this PCI parellel port shows: IO Range14A8-14AB (14A8 converts to 5288) IO Range14Ac-14AF IRQ 21 Looking at say, ARSWin's setup for a custom parallel port, this only allows for a three digit entry (i.e.e 378)?? I believe that from your description below, PORTMAP.INI, refers only to DX4WIN?? I am probabley being thick here but would appreciate your input! 73's de Tony G8DQZ -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Larry Gauthier (K8UT) Sent: 20 January 2005 12:03 To: dx4win@mailman.qth.net Subject: [Dx4win] Solved with v6.04! Multiple PCI parallel ports under Win2Kand WinXP Thanks to the Paul's efforts (as well as programmers for other products), you can now interface to multiple parallel (LPT) ports under Windows XP and Windows 2000. This means that products like: DX4Win's CW driver, the WaveNode WN-1 wattmeter, band decoders (remote antenna switches) from ON4AOI and TopTen, and the ARSWin rotor interface from EA4TX can all simultaneously interface to PCI parallel ports. The 4 parallel ports that worked properly for me under this new configuration were: 1. Dell motherboard LPT port as LPT1 at 0378 2. A LAVA parallel card 3. A Memos parallel card 4. A Byte serial/parallel card (VSCOM drivers - see note below) I am running DX4WIN with 4 of 5 of the devices listed above, and they all happily coexist using 3 LPT ports in my computer. If anyone has problems with this, I'd be happy to respond to any questions. -larry K8UT The following is a short tutorial for DX4WIN users. If you are using a product from one of the vendors listed above you may also need to configure their programs -- all of them have recently modified their configuration software to accommodate PCI LPT ports. === DESCRIPTION The new PlugPlay features of Windows 2000 and Windows XP has simplified the installation of additional parallel ports by eliminating the need for manual configuration. Unfortunately, this simplification has created complications for computers with parallel ports connected to custom (non-printer) devices like transceivers, CW keying, band decoders, rotors, and wattmeters. As a result, devices connected to the traditional parallel port of LPT1 at memory address 0378(hex) will work properly, but any devices connected to parallel ports LPT2 and LPT3 will not work properly. Version 6.04 of DX4WIN supports these new virtual-memory parallel ports (LPT ports). The DX4WIN604\SAVE directory includes PORTMAP.INI that defines the memory location of virtual-memory parallel cards. For each LPT port (LPT1, LPT2, LPT3) in DX4WIN, the user can define the decimal memory location of the card driver. Here is how to perform that task. CONFIGURATION 1. INSTALL THE PARALLEL CARD - Use the installation instructions from the manufacturer. 2. FIND THE MEMORY LOCATION OF THE CARD - Right-click on My Computer, -Properties -Hardware -Device Manager -Ports. Double-click on the LPT port, and on the Resources tab, note the starting memory location (EXAMPLES: LPT1 should be 0378, a motherboard LPT2 should be 0278, virtual-memory LPT addresses will be located much higher in memory with address like DC50). [NOTE: **See special instructions below for finding memory locations for ByteRunner or VSCOM cards.] 3. CONVERT THE HEX MEMORY ADDRESS TO A DECIMAL NUMBER - The number from Device Manager is in hexadecimal, and you must convert that number to decimal format for entry into the PORTMAP.INI file. There are many hex-to-decimal converters on the web ( http://www.ronshardwebapps.com/Numbers.asp ) [EXAMPLES: 0378 hex converts to 888 decimal address, DC50 hex converts to 56400 decimal address) 4. EDIT THE PORTMAP.INI FILE - Using Notepad, navigate to the DX4WIN604\SAVE directory (or wherever you installed DX4WIN) and open the file PORTMAP.INI. Add the decimal address for the appropriate card. (EXAMPLES: LPT1=888, LPT2=56400). Save the file. 5. LAUNCH DX4WIN. Under File Preferences, assign the LPT ports (LPT1, LPT2, LPT3) as required. If you get an error that DX4WIN cannot open the LPT port, you have plugged the wrong address into PORTMAP.INI. **Special instructions below for finding memory locations for ByteRunner or VSCOM cards These cards have been very popular with DX4WIN clients who use them for additional serial and parallel ports. Unfortunately, the driver software included with these cards does not display the virtual memory address under Properties -Hardware -Device Manager

There is no provision or setting within the program for enabling any type of auto-reconnect to a cluster once you've been dropped -- it's a very old issue and one that to this day has not been addressed. The good news is a very slick work-around exists and its free! Go to http://www.ve7cc.net/ and download the AR User/DX Spider Program. With this program you will have dx cluster spot filtering so you only receive spots from the area that interests you along with a host of other wonderful features. The program is without question, the best DX Cluster program available today. Once you've got the program installed, go to your dx4win.tcp file (you can open it in Notepad) and add a line with the string (127.0.0.1:7300) without the brackets and then save the file. It's all explained on the webpage. To find this file, go to your c:\program files\dx4wn602\savefolder. With the line added to your dx4win.tcp file and the program installed, start the AR User/DX Spider Program. Connect to your cluster and then open the cluster window in DX4WIN and select the 127.0.0.1:7300 entry as the cluster you want to connect to -- through the magic of your computer, spots will flow from the AR User/DX Spider Program into the spot window in DX4WIN. Two of them (TopTen and ARSWin) are controlled via settings in DX4WIN. The computer is a recent model Dell running Windows XP sp2. Unfortunately, DX4WIN ( or the control software that came with these 3 devices ) only functions when the controlled device is connected to LPT1 - the built-in motherboard LPT in the Dell. So -- ALL three devices/software work when I define them as being on LPT1; but NONE of them work when configured for either LPT ports #2 or #3. I have purchased two PCI parallel port cards - the Byte Runner (dual serial, single parallel) and the NetMOS single parallel. I have spent countless hours trying to get these additional parallel ports to resemble legacy parallel ports, with selectable memory addresses. Unfortunately, Windows XP wants to help by intervening with its virtual port addressing... which is what seems to be defeating the software in DX4WIN, ARSWin and WaveNode. My diagnosis is that although the Windows Device Manager reports that these extra ports are on LPT2 or LPT3, they are not at the expected direct memory addresses that the vendors' software expects. [Dx4win] Using PSK and ICOM IC756 Pro II
John Thanks for your comments, Pin 4 of ACC1 is called MOD on page 13 of the Pro II manual which describes each pin of this socket. My software (MULTIPSK) uses audio in and out to control all functions. Consequently your advice confirms my thoughts, Pin 4 AF input and Pin 5 AF output, ground of course being Pin 2! Many thanks 73's Tony! Can I check connections with someone to the ACC1 Socket on rear panel. Clearly I need audio in and out from my sound card. Looking at manual, Pin 5 is AF out, that's easy to line in/mic of soundcard. Regarding audio in (output from sound card) I have two options (I think). Pin 1 = RTTY Pin 4 = Mod My software say connect audio in to RTTY terminals (pin 1), but looking at radio manual I think Pin 4, Mod is correct. Can any one comment, please! Thanks. Hi Tony - I have the PROII. On page 20 of the manual is a diagram for connecting AFSK - can be used for RTTY and PSK. It shows pin 1 being used for -FSK- RTTY keying. It's -NOT- for audio input! AF input (AFSK RTTY or PSK, or HELL, MFSK16 etc) is pin 4. Ground is pin 2. AF out is pin 5. I don't see anything about mod. Hope this helps! 73 - John, WA9ALS

[Dx4win] Using QRZ CD rom data from hard drive
Ernie, Go to File | preferences, then select Ext Data. In data directory show the path to where you have the QRZ data installed on your hard drive. From memory (and I am writing this from the office, not in front of my shack PC), data source should be set to none, otherwise when you push F3 DX4WIN will only go to your CD drive. Further if you wish, having hit F3 and the data is received, by then pushing enter, explorer will open and go directly to QRZ's web site to give you the latest info., for the station you are searching for. To do this, check the box enabled, in Website Callsign Lookup, add the following addresses: Callsign look up address: http://www.qrz.com/callsign?qsl= QSL manager lookup address: http://www.qrz.com/ It works well and I guess saves having to spend money on new CD's from QRZ?? [Dx4win] 2 monitors
George, Initially I replaced the single AGP card with a two port AGP card, but this caused the system to crash! So I had to perform a system restore. I reinstalled the original AGP card. Then I swapped the 2 port AGP card for a two port PCI card, let XP do all the installation worked and after adjustments in control panel/displays, hey presto I have three working displays! Actually I am only using the two, but if needed I can plug in a 3rd display. Only trouble now is finding a neat place to put the 2nd monitor!!! It is really good. I also noticed in DX4WIN that if you check the right box it will remember the exact positions of each open window (on both displays). So many thanks for your help, it works real fine! [Dx4win] RE: [MMTTY] XP / serial port access
Where can I get such an LPT port driver, on my XP system LPT1 (on mother board) is assigned a 3 digit address by XP (like 378h or 278h) but LP2 (on add on board)is assigned a 4 digit address by XP which is not at user level. [Dx4win] Problems with v6.02 CW on LPT1 under XP
Mike, Looking at your reply here, may I ask a further question regarding userport. I am also running DX4WIN V6.02 under XP. I have no problem with LPT1, but I also need a second LPT port. I placed a new LPT card in the comp and it fired up OK. Works fine for printing but does not work with ARSWIN or my antenna controller. [Dx4win] upgrading to V 6.02
Hi all, I have seen many messages about V 6.02. I am upgrading from V 5.03, and now have the licence key (thanks to Steve for quick reply). May I ask some questions, I will install V6.02 on my comp (Windows XP). 1, I understand that this will NOT overwrite existing version, which I can still operate if I wish? 2, I should merge ini files, country information, QSL managers and address files. This will bring to the new version all data from old and give me new and old data. Ini files will set up V6.02 to exactly emulate the older version? 3, Old Log file is simply pasted to new V6.02 directory. If I understand this correctly doing this will give me new version that looks like the old version?! Sorry for such simple questions, but unlike some of you chaps out there I am not 110% computer literate!! [Dx4win] (no subject)
Dear All, A non related DX4Win question, if that's OK!!! I have been a radio amateur since 1970, but only passed the morse test in March this year, so I have only had access to HF bands since then. My knowledge of seasonal band conditions is thus limited. I have been using 20m a lot and have found this a great band. In last week or so it has been DEAD! Is this normal for this time of year or is sun spot activity very bad, or is my rig at fault! Before I start investigating my rig I though I would ask all you experts out there first! [Dx4win] LPT Problem
Hi there, can any one help me with a connection problem?? I am running DX4WIN V 5.03, Arswin and ON4AOI's band decoder. XP loaded the software called the port LPT3(??!!) and assigned a 4 number address to it. Neither ARSWIN or the decoder will work with it. However both work fine with the original LPT1 port (address 378H). ARSWIN allows LPT1 (address 378H) and LPT2 (address 278H). How do I configure the new PCI LPT port card to the correct address???
