I use DXlab software, which can print the card and/or the QSO labels (which I
use) the envelopes and/or address labels. All within fusion. Or you can use
bootcamp to run windows on the mac

When I make special QSLs for things like my trip east through
Newfoundland and Labrador, I use Photoshop. I make a 3.5 x 5.5
inch image for each card which includes the details of the QSO.
I then take them to the 1 hour photo printer and get 4 x 6 inch
prints which I trim down for mailing. A bit of work, but well
worth it for those who, like me, consider QSLs to be an art form.

It used to be that 5 watts on PSK31 was all that was needed, most all
operators were using low power because it worked well. Most advice was
to keep the power low - below 20 watts if I recall. As time went by,
the power levels used on PSK31 have crept up and many operators are now
using 100 watts or more. That kind of power in the narrow bandwidth of
common PSK wattering holes will take over the AGC in the receiver
because most are using bandwidths of 2.5 kHz or greater to see the full
waterfall display.

The AGC will respond to the strongest signal within the filter bandwidth
and will make weaker stations more difficult to copy. Sometimes turning
off the AGC will help, but concentrating on the station you wish to copy
and narrowing the IF filter bandwidth will help even more. If you only
want to work one station, there is no need to see the entire PSK31
band. Narrow the receiver filter and use the VFO to tune the desired
station to the center of the IF passband.

calling CQ in location away from nearby strong signals. At 5 watts your
printing on the waterfall can be faint depending on propagation. I did get
Hawaii once on PSK with my K2. My luck with PSK has always been better at
25-30 watts. That is just the nature of this mode. At QRP power, CW is much
more efficient. Make sure you have enough drive to just trigger the ALC
circuit. You are also better off decoding the PSK signal with Fldigi or
DM780 - just a better PSK experience with the macros and all.

I never said that Philip shouldn't enjoy what he has. But he did
encourage others to buy that antenna, and that's the part to which I
take exception. It simply is not comparable in
performance-versus-cost-versus-portability to other options. And those
manufacturers claims that you don't care about are what lots of other
people base their buying decisions upon.

QRP is fun ... I used to do a lot of it. Using simple gear is fun, too
... I used to do a lot of that as well. But I would never try to talk
somebody into spending $130 for a poor approach to either.

For now I am putting in an older Icom mobile until the 100W amp from elecraft

I may end up using the KX3 on 6m with the mirage amp so two rigs in the truck.

Re: [Elecraft] Newbie

2012-08-07 Thread va3bxg
Based on the amount of questions and topics there is three areas of
questions/improvements/additions to the guide I would suggest updating, given
the admittedly targeting of new/lack of experience hams

1) Digital operations. The how. What cable to hook where. The method of
operation. Some of this In part, maybe outside the intention of the manual, but
there is still quite a bit that should be added. Just look at the questions
that are posted here and on KX3 reflector

2) The whole area of the AGC/filter/setup. (And this is really where the manual
lacks info for the new owner/newbie in my uneducated opinion) Again the number
of questions from both newbies and experienced hams make it evident that
information needs to be enhanced (true some people will never read the manual,
but at least one can be directed to it, if the question a raises) this is where
I am truly still having issues. Some hams here talk about the menu option to
decrease/increase the AGC yet us 'new' guys have yet the complete understanding
of what the AGC is supposedly doing and what the menu changing actual does.

3) Power. Now admittedly I believe that has been covered in the manual
appropriately. The questions still come. The differences between LiPo LiFePo4
as an example. I did ask the down to basic question and got some responses
which I am still trying to digest. But as a side note and a related topic (and
something that can be included in the new versions of the manual) is a section
on travel. According to current US and international travel restrictions, what
can and cannot be brought onboard. Yes they will change, but so will other
items in the manual due to upgrades etc. Questions have been placed by all
types of hams, on which battery can be carried on, side equipment etc. Again
this may be not the high priority on the contents of the manual, but a truly
nice to have.

I truly believe that number #1 #2 of my list should be included/updated
within the manual. #3 is a nice to have but based on the questions also
something to consider

And if it is not possible, what about a series of entries in the elecraft FAQ
(my second choice)

I will borrow someone else sig. Here and say

Robert,

We did include a lot of material for first-time users, but we had to
draw the line somewhere. We're planning to expand the digital section,
and we'll always be improving it based on user feedback.

Meanwhile, if there are specific areas you'd like to know more about,
just ask. Our reflector is a great place to start. There's also the
ARRL Handbook, and other League guides to just about everything.

The KXBC3 option is not yet available, so you need to ignore that

 it is
an option, and not required. Until that option is available, you
 will
have to remove the batteries for re-charging (also the clock will
 be
rest to zero when you power off).

Newbies are welcome right here - ask away, and you will usually
 find a
 response in short order.

The KX3 manual itself has a lot of how-to information in it. I
suggest you sit down with your KX3 along with the manual and walk
through the procedures as you read the manual.

There is also a Yahoo Group for the KX3, but much of the
 information is
 duplicated on this reflector.

While I agree about the various aspects of the Digital aspect. But a basic
setup so one can cover what is needed to start is something that I believe
would be an asset.

Batteries is something that always come up. and an faq is probably more
appropriate

I will be reading the article and it seems interesting. But this is still
something that I believe should be included as not only a general conversation,
but a also specific aspect of the KX3 and its setting

Hi Robert,

Wayne said they they plan to beef up the digital modes section of the manual,
so it will be interesting to see what information they put there. The challenge
is that there are so many possible setups that it is just not practical to
cover them all.

Concerning your questions around AGC, Don W3FPR has written an excellent
article on this topic, and you can find it on his web page:
http://www.w3fpr.com/K3_AGC.htm

I would question whether a detailed treatment of the different types of
batteries available is really appropriate for a radio user manual, but it would
certainly be an excellent topic for an FAQ article.

[Elecraft] KX3 battery question again

2012-08-05 Thread va3bxg
First of all I know there have been 'hundreds' of post about this subject. And
the truth been told, maybe I am confused because of that.

So my 'simple' question is this

I would like to buy a battery for the KX3 that fall into these 'requirements'

1) Needs to be allowed to be brought onto a plane, compact (carry on)?
2) I would like to run the KX3 at 12W on them.
3) Need to get a charger that keep the life of the battery going as long as
possible (I assume it needs to trickle, balance charger)
4) And does not break the canadian bank(if one can also suggest places to
purchase online? Hobbyking? Ebay, amazon to name a couple who do ship to Canada)

Now there are lifo, Lifepo4, lead acid (not really to heavy) NIMH, squirrel,
hamster ;-) etc

I know that buddipole sells a A123 but they do not ship to canada (guess they
are afraid we will take over the world, one battery at a time) but also they
are pricey. And not sure if they are the 'right' type anyways

So indulge my ignorance, and confusion on this, seemingly simple question.

Like, I figure, most hams spend a lot of money that, at the end, is not the
product they hoped for, (especially a newbie like me) I am hoping by reaching
out I can at least mitigate some.

Thanks in advance to everyone who even thinks about posting about this again

Dunno if it was the same cause, but I, too, had a scraping noise when
turning the VFO knob. It didn't happen on every turn and it moved around
the circumference, so it didn't seem to be the knob bottoming out on the
clear plastic bezel. But it was. I removed the rubber ring around the knob,
loosened the set screw and lifted the knob ever so slightly above the
bezel, tightened the nut and the noise was gone.

[Elecraft] 100W amp question/comparison/capability. Wait or not

So here is a question.

I am looking into waiting and buying the new 100w amp for my Kx3. But there are

While completely agree with your assessment some other thoughts

1) Money while important, is not a main consideration. (No kids)
2) I would like an amp that covers the same bands as the KX3 (maybe the 2m as I
will be probably getting that option)
3) I guess what I am asking is why the annonced elecraft amp is so much better
then others already on the market

The correct answer depends very much on you.  I have no doubt that the Elecraft
offering will be a better fit with the KX3 than whatever you are planning to
buy.  Since you don't name your candidate and the Elecraft amp is not available
to test, there is no way for anyone to be sure.  There are probably some amps
of good quality available, but more that are really for the CB market and not
something you would be proud to put on the ham bands.  Your financial condition
is also important.  Can you afford a dead end decision?  My approach was to buy
a Kenwood TS-480 which is a very nice offering.  I made this purchase before
the KX3 was announced, so my selection is not a judgement between the two
choices.  Of course, we have no definite information about how long it will be
before the Elecraft amp is available, do how quickly do you feel the need of
100 watts is also important.  Bottom line, it is a decision you will have to
make because only you
know your personal wants, needs and financial situation well enough.  If you
elect to go with a third party amp, please consider a high end offering.  I
doubt you will be pleased with the low end.

I have had this issue previously, but not to this level.

Also a small observation. Now when the unit is shut down, on the VFO B, a

Ron,

The last time I travelled with a rig, it was an FT-857D. I was able to put
it and all the cables I needed into my carry-on, which was just my regular
attache/brief case. I attached a copy of my license to the top of the
rig. I had the rig and power cable. I didn't have a power supply because
I was renting a vehicle and driving back home (bizarre business trip - I'll
tell you the gory details off-list if you really want to know). Anyway,
TSA didn't even give the rig and cabling a second look. As to antennas,
because this was a trip to one of my company's offices in Metro DC, I just
shipped my antennas, mounts, and other necessaries ahead to one of my
co-workers. Don't know if that is an option for you or not.

Hope this helps.

Hi Bob,

One of the Elecraft guys said they did plan to provide some sort of
jumper cables. Maybe even they could provide right angle connectors of
the various types used on the KX3.

I just decided to not way. and yes, I got the same kind Mouser sells.

 Thanks Tom,

On my simply interface I just did not connect the two PTT lines and use
the USB to KX3 cable to control the KX3 via CAT. That sounds like good

certainly will be using the CAT cable at the same time anyway.

Yeah, the right-angle connectors I purchased from Mouser have plastic
covers that snap in place, that the moment a wire is installed through
the cover, it cover unsnaps. That is the biggest advantage to buying a
pre-made cable -- they are insert molded and strain-reliefed.

I know that Elecraft has their hands full, but providing right-angle
adapter cables, and perhaps prewired molded connectors with short
unterminated cables for the Mic might be a reasonable thing to offer as
an optional purchased Connector Kit. As you said, none of the TRRS
cables I have found have the shield tied to the shell, and the quality
of the blank connectors is dubious at best.

 Thanks for the good suggestion.

I have been very tempted by the Alex-loop, but in the meantime have just
bought one of G4TPH's loops which I shall put through its paces when the
weather improves! I should imagine that the insensitivity to electric
fields in the near field would be an advantage in electrically noisy
environments. Even a campsite can be very noisy with the inverters from RVs
and the like spewing out rf everywhere.

I'm spoilt for choice of antennas to play with once the KX3 arrives!

I think you've hit the nail on the head: couple your K series to the
internet using a decent outdoor aerial at home. Spend your money for
effective communication and avoid all those nasty emc troubles in hotel
rooms, unless you can poke a wire out of the window. BTW, you probably
need permission from the hotel owner to do this.

Loops are good for receiving using an external amplifier if you need
to. You can get very good nulling of nearby noise sources. You only
need simple wire loops, no fancy hardware.

do with short antennas. My approach would be Internet access to a rig at
 home.

The thought is that one could test out indoor antennas in their own shack to
see how various things work. Second thought, particularly with respect to
small loops, I wonder if they would be useful to home use (primarily as a
receive antenna assuming the presence of better outside antennas for
transmitting) being easy to rotate by hand to try to null noise or QRM.

Without doubt the best kind of antenna given the environment you describe
is a small tuned loop. How well it works will depend on how well it is
built (literally). The quality of the loop material and the tuning
capacitor will determine the overall efficiency (and effectiveness) of the
antenna. The buddipole in either the vertical or dipole arrangement will
only come into its own when outside and away (to some degree) from
interfering structures. I have had success with a tuned small loop indoors
but not so with center fed or end fed dipoles. However they (longer
dipoles) work well even a few feet outside the building ... eg. I used a
bent up wire dipole made of invisible fishing wire suspended a couple of
feed away from a balcony with thin bamboo poles ... it worked vy well on cw
and PSK.

Hi Bernie,

There will be many opinions, here are mine. There are many different
antennas each with its pros and cons. You are looking for something quick.
While I have no experience with the Buddi-Pole system it seems to me to be
something that should not take a lot of time to set up. Maybe switching
between different bands is the issue.

A wire of reasonable length (and ground system of some sort) and a good
tuner can switch bands fairly rapidly. Your length of 40 feet seems
reasonable although other lengths may be a bit better depending on the bands
you want to operate on. A problem with a wire antenna is putting it up and
taking it down and the need for supports. If you can just toss it up into an
available tree it could be a quick thing. If you try to get a rope over a
tree and have to walk through nasty vegetation and things get tangled up it
might not be so pleasant.

Performance wise for a single band I really like a dipole. There are a
number of ways to get multiband operation: traps, jumpers to use or isolate
portions, and feeding with balanced line and use a tuner. I generally do my
portable operation while camping at the same location for several days.
Setup time is not so much an issue for me.

While some may say having the optimal antenna is the most important thing I
think there may be some other perhaps more important considerations for
portable operation. One is picking the best band to use on a given outing.
Getting a good feel for the bands at home helps a lot, as does checking
propagation information. The best antenna you can put up for portable use
might be about useless if there band conditions are poor on your band of
choice. Once you have a decent antenna selected and have picked a band that
will be open the important thing is good operating. One CQ may not get a
contact. It could take some effort and time.

Bottom line, do planning on what band to use, pick a simple wire antenna,
spend a reasonable amount of time and you will get contacts!

Good luck and have fun!

Subject: [Elecraft] New KX3 Owners

Hi All,

I'm getting a really big kick out of all the excitement from those lucky
enough to already have a KX3 in hand. It's like a bunch of kids in a candy
store! Can't blame you! I know how you feel, since all my other Elecraft
rigs have pretty low serial numbers, except for back-up K2, which is a
much later model. Even though I'm fairly high up on the KX3 order time
line, it looks like my KX3 is going to have a pretty high serial number.
That's O.K. though, providing you early owners are diligent enough to report
any early production glitches! I'm not sure there will be that many, but be
diligent nevertheless!

I'm kind of curious as to how many KX3 owners are also first time Elecraft
owners. Seems like, based on some of the conversation, it's a fairly high
number. I don't know exactly what to attribute that to, but I suspect more
than a little of it is due to the success of the K3. Seems like a lot of
folks are viewing the KX3 as a poor man's K3, and perhaps rightfully so.
The unique versatility of the KX3 has also drawn a lot of attention from
those who previously thought rigs like the FT-817 and IC-703 best suited
their preferences. It isn't going to take them long to realize they got a
whole bunch more than just a new and improved portable radio! I honestly
think this radio is going to mark the beginning of a whole new way of
thinking about size versus capability.

There are already rumors about a KX3 look-alike from China. Ten-Tec has a
new QRP radio in the works, and a small amp as well. I've even worked
someone with a prototype. Isn't it interesting how many manufacturers are
following the lead from Elecraft! Look what happened with the down
conversion architecture. Ten-Tec may have actually initiated it with the
Orion, but Elecraft really went a lot further in trying to perfect it, and
made it truly successful--mainly because they support their radios better!

I don't minimize the fact that some other manufacturers are rolling out some
very nice products, but I know I'm having a bunch more fun just watching
the Elecraft line progress. This is where most of the real innovation seems
to be occurring. Stated differently, other manufacturers seem to be in a
mode of mainly upscaling their products--adding features to make their
next model somewhat more attractive. Elecraft, on the other hand, seems
more innovative. I think I know why that is, at least to some extent. The
designer/engineers and Yaecomwood sit around and think about how to add
fins, or a bigger engine, like Chrysler--maybe throw in a new twist or two,
like a bandscope, and more button versatility. That's good! However,
Elecraft folks think about how can we make the radio perform better--even
at the top of the scale! That's what led to down conversion, incorporating
powerful versatility and upgradeability through firmware enhancement,
enhanced DSP capability, etc. It's not about adding more buttons, but
instead, adding more technology. That may sound like an overstatement, but
I defend it by pointing to the fact that other manufacturers are seemingly
adopting the Elecraft approach in many instances--but after the fact! The
other big innovation is in SDR stuff, and the comparison is most intriguing.

The KX3 is a perfect example of this. It's a total departure from where a
lot of folks thought Elecraft was going. There was all this talk about a
K4! Surprise! Elecraft looks for niche's in the market, and then fills a
perceived void with avengeance. The KPA500 is another example of that.
There are a plethora of 1 KW+ amps out there--and darned good ones--but few
in the 500-700 watt range. For many, that's more than enough extra oomph,
and technically, it covers the best part of the cost/benefit curve. Plus,
it opened up new opportunities like offering the KAT500 as a matching
accessory.

I just think the whole thing is fascinating! Clearly not everyone will
agree, not even with my premise, but I think it has merit.

Does anyone know what the capability/efficiency of the internal ATU is?

Not talking about the wattage (its up to 20 I believe) but the tuning the

Looking at deploying a random wire/loop so I am wondering if I need a separate
ATU or can the internal unit handle the range?
Thanks

Actually, the first production unit was #20, which went to W3FPR. #24, to
KB9ABO (I think) was the first reported however. The latest we have heard from,
which only means it's the latest reported, is #42, which went to W6GQ.

Now how much of that did I get wrong I wonder? I haven't even looked at
anything to verify. LOL

For THAT I Unreservedly Apologise for bringing this up, but being a

Just Wanted To Know sorta, get a ball-park figure of the very little

 Serial Number : 01432

 My 2nd K2 I can't recall at the moment it's Serial Number - But I guess
 maybe in the 3000's - 4000's - 5000's Serial (Lisa@Elecraft will know
 tho)...

So I Kinda was playin' around with Serial Numbers in my head and was
thinkin, of tryin to order a KX-3 when the time comes with the SAME Serial
Numbers as my K2's ... Or something more Special Agent Covert - akin to
 Serial Number 007 or something..

Anyways whatever happens in the near future I KNOW - I WILL BE more than
pleased with whatever I get from the folks there in Aptos..

It's nice to have both. The electronic one gives you a great ability to find
things, it's easily updated, and takes up no space on the bookshelf or
coffee table. And it's harder to misplace. It's dirt cheap compared to
paper.

The paper one is good so I don't have to either build on my operating desk,
or carry a computer to the workbench, and it's handier for checking off
steps, and reading in my recliner.

Subject: Re: [Elecraft] KX3 and Data Mode Interface

Hi Ed,

I also need the same thing, as I am sure many people do. I need to figure out
a
solution as small as possible, since my KX3 and whatever additional
cables/interfaces/6m preamplifier, etc etc. need to all fit in the outside
pouch of
my laptop computer case for airline travel.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I would THINK that Elecraft
probably
would provide cables (eventually, anyway) to allow the KX3 to be used on
digital
modes, but maybe it will take some time after the production units are actually
going
out the door.

I would have expected that field testers already would have determined the best
way
to achieve this type of operation, Ed. So I think it is best to let the dust
settle
first and get their input before rushing off to develop some custom interface
that
may or may not be necessary with the final KX3...

This seems a popular topic on the KX3.

For computer interfacing the KX3 for running various soundcard
programs a simple interface is needed for PTT, Keying, and transmit
audio. It is assumed that one side of the IQ baseband will serve for
connection of Rx audio to the soundcard.

A couple choices are given for PTT:
 1) using the Mic-PTT
 2) using GPIO input

Transmit audio from a soundcard will have to be:
 1) isolated
 2) reduced in amplitude to drive the mic input properly.

RS232 needs to be isolated from KX3 PTT and KEY.

An external unit is what looks practical and will need the proper connectors:
 1) Four contact mic connector w/ suitable length cord
 2) ACC2 connector (if used)
 3) standard 3.5mm phone jack for soundcard interconnect (get that from RS)
 4) breakout of serial cable RTS line and DTR line
 5) connector for KX3 KEY jack.
 6) transistors to isolate RTS and DTR
 7) resistive divider (pot) for setting Tx audio level
 8) miniature pcb isolation transformer for audio

A simple interface can be made very tiny using sm components,
though may be more than will fit the standard DB9 (9-pin subD) jack
shell. I'm giving some thought to manufacture such an item, but I
need to receive delivery of my KX3 for development.

What would folks like this to look like? How long should cords be?

The K3 Manual says clearly that the Line In and Line Out signals are
isolated with transformers and that these ports therefore can be connected
directly to a computer sound card.

I have read carefully through the KX3 Preliminary Manual but I have not
found any information about isolation of the input and output analog
signals. I therefore suppose that the KX3 does not have any isolation on
these ports, however on page 18 the manual says that you can connect the
computer audio to the MIC jack and the KX3 phone jack to the computer's
audio input. So I am still somewhat confused.

In one of the previous notes from Wyne, he mentions that maybe Elecraft would
end buying a bulk, good quality set of plugs that can be ordered (instead of

Is there a possibility that they can be put on the order page and then shipped

[Elecraft] Manual

When my BM-10 stared causing 60 cycle hum, I tracked it down to the adaptor.
The Heil replacement service left much to be desired, as just the postage to
get the adaptor to them negated any replacement and they would not consider
just sending a new one to me. I decided to try something new. After a lot of
research, I bought the Yamaha CM-500 but didn't like it. I then researched and
bought the WB2ENY premium headset for under $ 50.00. The eham reviews are
excellent. I am very happy with it. My audio reports are great and they are
very comfortable. I had to adjust the transmit equalizer as the profile is
different that for the Heil Mikes, but I am very happy.

Actually it does not matter. No adapter is included with the K3 or
KX3. The KX3 will include a mic plug you can wire yourself. It is a
3.5mm 4 conductor plug. There is a menu item to enable or disable the
up/dn button signals provided by the MH3 mic.

I connected a standard 3 conductor audio cable that breaks down to two
RCA connectors and use that to interface my CM500 and a PTT switch.

What I use for a hand PTT switch is a small Micro Switch snap action
switch from my junkbox. It is about an inch long and half an inch
wide and just a little higher. It has a button on the top. After
soldering wires on the terminals I covered the back half with shrink
tubing. Since I am not a touch typist I can hold it in my hand while
using a keyboard or even write with a pencil. Works great for me,

The only dumb question is the question not asked!

If you want to hold a PTT switch in your hand, you might consider the MH3
microphone that has built in PTT *and* frequency up/down buttons that allow
you to tweak the receive frequency without touching the KX3 itself.

A hand switch to work with the CM500 would require some sort of adapter as
others pointed out. The KX3 uses a four wire TRRS mic connector (tip, ring
1, ring 2 and sleeve). Connecting the rings together puts the KX3 in
transmit. That's why you must disable the PTT operation in the KX3's MENU if
you plug in a mono mic connector such as the CM500 or the ProSet have.
Otherwise the two rings short to the sleeve in the mono jack and the KX3
will transmit.

Sorry if this has been addressed before. I'm hoping to spend more time in
my shack and I'd like some opinions or advice on a good quality boom and
mike for the K3. I suppose I'd spend $300-$500 if I had to although that
is on the top end. The use would be for operating on scheduled,
controlled nets and rag chewing. As a point of reference, a friend has
suggested the Heil PL2T boom and PR 781 mike. (He has a high-end Icom).
I already have a couple of headsets and hand mikes so this inquiry is just
on the boom and mike.

Subject: [Elecraft] KX3 mic jack *will* work with other mics/headsets having
a regular stereo plug

In response to a few questions on this topic:

The KX3 has a 4-circuit 3.5-mm jack, allowing for UP/DN and PTT
controls as well a mic audio shield ground. The MH3 has a matching plug.

However, the mic jack can also be used with mics having a 3-circuit
(stereo) plug. These will not provide PTT or UP/DN controls, but can
still be used with VOX or the XMIT switch (equivalent to PTT). Two
menu entries are provided for mic configuration: one to turn bias on/
off and another to turn the UP/DN buttons on/off.

Heil headsets with two stereo plugs (one for stereo receive audio, the
other for the mic) can be used. Generic computer headsets with these
two plugs will also work.

There are very small, pivoting mics available from places like Fry's
that have a 3-circuit plug. These are compatible with the KX3's mic
jack, too, and in fact allow you to use the KX3 like an HT (in a pinch).

We'll expand our list of compatible mics over time.

Wayne

1) While it maybe obvious to some, the standard package does not include a

Bummer

2) In along those same lines, what is the connector, polarity of the plug, or
if the optional charger was ordered, can it power the unit to 10W as well as
keeping the batteries fully loaded?

3) How much would it cost to get both cables rs232 and USB (v2 or v3?)

4) Any thoughts about adding bluetooth (for mobile operation)?

Just wondering

Wayne previously described the KX3 MH3 mic and connector (on another list)
thus:

The mic jack is different from the other 1/8th-inch (3.5 mm)
jacks. It has 4 conductors, allowing for PTT/UP/DOWN, mic audio, and a
separate shield ground to prevent hot mic syndrome. The mic is full
custom, with a 4-pin right-angle plug.

I've been working with Wayne at Elecraft on a dust cover for
the KX3. Prototypes have been sent back and forth, and a
design is almost finalized.

The paddle assembly will be an option, and I'd like to know
if there are those who would -not- purchase the paddles, and
therefore would not want an opening in the cover for them.

We'll address a potential padded case next. It's a complex
issue, with many concepts of what extras might be added
over and above the KX3.

Stay tuned, and
