Think I have used them before. The docs should explain things well. You
probably just need to download some components and then add them to the
beginning of your banner.

I think the fact that this list is pretty inactive says it all.

I'm freelancing at an agency right now who I make AIR apps for. I used to
make a lot of them for a few years, but recently I think they are looking
more and more at html5/js solutions. A few years ago I used to make Flash
websites for them, but never any more; then I made AIR apps, and now that
seems on the slide... it's a shame for all the reasons we already know.

The only other work I get with Flash is the occasional banner ad!

I'm sure there are still some niche areas for Flash, but largely it feels
dead from where I sit.

We looked at automating a restart of the app to get around this.

If I encounter the same issue on the Samsung, would I be able to restart

Re: [Flashcoders] Actionscript lives on.

I have made loads of AIR apps for tablets and display stands. They are not
for public download, they are all for marketing events that guests at an
event use or trained staff use. I use Flash CS5.5 and we normally use
Samsung tablets as compiling to Android is so much quicker and easier than
to iOS, and it is easy to pull data off the device. The company I work for
on those apps is really happy with the speed and flexibility. I would love
to work on an app that was actually available in a store to download by the
public.

Having said that If I am also looking at web apps and experimenting with
jQuery Mobile and CSS media queries, and I try to avoid flash when making
websites.

I agree with others about Actionscript 3 being a fantastic language that
should have a continued life. And Adobe need to get some new marketing
people— they have handled all of this so badly!

ldr.addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OVER, rollOverListener);

Unfortunately that Screensaver For Mac doesn't seem to work for me. Their
demo files don't even work. I'm on OS X 10.6.8 .

Can someone on another system (or even the same) test it to see if it
works? Only need to download and double-click the .saver file to test.

Big thanks in advance,

[Flashcoders] AIR Screensaver?

2012-03-12 Thread David Hunter
Hi All,

Anyone have any advice on making screensavers from Flash? I have seen some
decent looking software
http://www.screentime.com/software/flash-screensaverto convert an swf
into a screensaver but it is quite pricey, I didn't have
any luck with a mac open source alternatives, so I was wondering if it was
possible with AIR? I would need it to function fully as a screensaver eg.
be activated by user idle timeouts / hot corners etc...

Thanks,

David

Make a projector that automatically enters fullscreen at start and exits
at input. Then rename it to *.scr, done.

Re: [Flashcoders] MVC style Correction

2012-03-07 Thread David Hunter
Hi all,

Really pleased that my original question has generated so much positive
discussion, debate and learning on MVC. For me it has certainly shed some
light on different ways to implement it and probably some improvements or
different approaches I could take in the future.

Currently I connect them all together exactly as Ross has his set up in his
first example. Although I may experiment with some slightly different
approaches or try out a framework.

Regards,

David

Absolutely agree, so thank you everyone - very much.
Each day I look for more.

As a result of people talking about RobotLegs I bought and today received
Joel Hooks' ActionScript Developers Guide to RobotLegs.

A new direction - which I am thankful for.

Re: [Flashcoders] Flash Platform roadmap released - time to start learning HTML 5 unless you make games.

2012-02-23 Thread David Hunter
I have pretty much given up on Flash for websites or web applications.

I have two kinds of clients: small clients who want a portfolio website or
something similar scale, and then the agency clients where my work is all
marketing work. Marketing people are o b s e s s e d with iphones / ipads
and facebook so if it doesn't play nicely with them then forget it. I used
to make Flash websites or Flash elements on websites for marketing agencies
but since about two years ago I have not done anything web-based for them,
it is all AIR apps for desktop and tablets. I actually prefer making AIR
apps than websites.

Reluctantly accepting the need to move on I am learning JS (which feels
like going back to AS2) and brushing up on my HTML CSS, I'm also learning
ModX framework for building content managed sites. I'm pretty sold on ModX.
Small clients always wanted a CMS but could never cough up enough for a
bespoke system and I never found one that worked with Flash so had to use
XML files, which most clients found difficult to manage themselves. So
getting a backend framework has been a positive from this; and making AIR
apps which I wanted to do before AIR ever existed and I made projector
files. But otherwise I am disappointed the way it is unravelling for Flash.
I'm sure Adobe could have handled the media better on this.

I was at an Adobe HTML 5 conference last year and they definitely see HMTL
5 for all web stuff, and Flash for apps and gaming. That roadmap seems to
suggest it is very game heavy. I don't really play computer games and I
haven't made one either so not sure how I feel about that.

For what its worth I really like AS3 and I hope it stays, if Flash dies on
the web though then there is no hope of JS getting an upgrade to be like
AS3 as there will be no competition, no incentive.

I'm off to do some banner ads... (seriously!)

[Flashcoders] MVC style

2012-02-15 Thread David Hunter
Hello list,

If I am making an application with MVC pattern and calculations are needed
to be performed on the data when the user interacts with the application,
would you:

do the calculations in the Model?

create a separate class that handles the calculations and puts the results
in the model?

do the calculations in the Controller?

looking forward to hearing people's thoughts on this,

down since the release of CS5.5.

Thanks all,

 Hi All,

Hope you are all well. I have just returned to work after a 4 month break
seeing a little of the other side of the world. I have been asked to make a
Blackberry Playbook app with AIR (it just got released in the UK) and hoping
for any pointers anyone has- particularly if I NEED to get FlashBuilder 4.5
or if I can use FlashBuilder 4 / Flash CS5 (which I already have)? If you
have a CS5 suite do you get a free upgrade to CS5.5?

 Cheers,

is there no way of doing it with Flash Professional CS5 or Flashbuilder 4.0
? I am on a mac so Flash Develop is not really an option.

I find it mind boggling that adobe would give away the Android extension for
free and then remove it and make you pay for it. I only got CS5 six months
ago.

Sounds interesting. I tried to replace the AIK2.0 in CS5 with the new AIR2.7
SDK but the app wouldn't compile and the adl wouldn't launch properly. I
used this as a guide: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/908/cpsid_90810.html . I will

appreciated.

Thanks Kevin.

I was able to build a Playbook app with Flash CS5 using this technique.

You can even do the same for iOS - in fact many folks using Flash CS5.5 are
doing this to get at the interpreter builds in AIR 2.7 for iOS (since they
compile so much more quickly, and can't be built from the GUI).

 Hi David,
I am not sure about your mailer, as I am an old AS2 head. lol
But I have a sendmail_generic php script you could try to see if it
 works over yours.
It is set up to work with flash and html alike.
Instructions are in the comments in the script.

 http://designdrumm.com/sendmail_gen.php.zip

FYI, I have used this for years and it still works with Flash 10.
I have a feeling in your php script, you need to set more headers to
 send with, like X-Mailer parameters.
 HTH,

Thanks Karl, I have downloaded your file and will have a look at it. Having
tried two other form examples I found online with still the same Error #2101
results, I moved the PHP to my server and it works fine. So Karl, you may be
right that it is something to do with the PHP version or a glitch with the
server. Very confusing.

 Hi David,
Do you know if there was any server upgrade or re-structuring/fix
 that had happen?
It could be that a default php.ini setting had be re-issued when an
upgrade or fix was done on the server.
You can look into your php.ini file and have a look at the sending
 email settings.

 Find your PHP.ini
 http://www.google.com/search?client=safarirls=enq=php.ini
 +locationie=UTF-8oe=UTF-8

 Email settings for PHP.ini
 http://www.google.com/search?
 hl=ensafe=offclient=safarirls=enq=php.ini+email
 +settingsaq=faqi=g1aql=oq=

If this is not your cup of tea, I would contact your hosting
companies IT and have a chat. :)

 Best,
 Karl

So I have a sprite that is holding a map and some mc's overlaying the map

I am trying to resize the sprite (and thus everthing in it...)

Something weird happens with the height

The sprite is initially resized to, say, 500x500, and that works fine...

Then I have a listener set on when it is clicked and I am, in the listener
 function, initially doing:

 trace(e.currentTarget.width);
 trace(e.currentTarget.height);

 and I get

 500
 -107374173

So it is not reading the height correctly...

 and the if I try:

 e.currentTarget.width = e.currentTarget.width+10;
 e.currentTarget.height = e.currentTarget.height+10;

and I trace it and get:

 What am I doing wrong?

 Hi.

I'm not certain why HTMLLoader's event isn't firing, but you could track if
the app is or is not being interacted with via NativeApplication, like this:

 private const IDLE_TIME:uint = 120;

// set us up the user idle detection
 NativeApplication.nativeApplication.idleThreshold = IDLE_TIME;
 NativeApplication.nativeApplication.addEventListener(Event.USER_IDLE,
 userIdleHandler);

You can also track an event for when the user begins interacting with the
app after it has been left idle:

 NativeApplication.nativeApplication.addEventListener(Event.USER_PRESENT,
 userPresentHandler);

I used this on a touch screen kiosk app that we use at Delvinia in place of
 a receptionist.

 I hope that helps. :)

RE: [Flashcoders] Facebook API GetPhotos not working

2010-08-16 Thread David Hunter

Thanks for the suggestion Steven. I've spent a week trying to work with
Facebook and the best I have managed is an AIR app using the
actionscript-facebook api with AIR CONNECT. I can successfully log in and allow
extended permissions and upload a picture from a webcam. I'm reasonably happy
with that. Although I can't seem to grant regular permissions to access a
user's photos. Do you know how this is done? I have had a quick go with Graph
API (just making URLLoader calls and ignoring the actionscript api) and I can
get an access token but I'm getting errors trying to grant access to
user_photos as I'm not passing a redirect_uri as a parameter. But as its an AIR
app I don't want/need a redirect so what should I be doing? Do I need to switch
this back to a web based app rather than desktop app to use this method? In
which case logging in might become an issue again! Thanks for your help, David

It's most likely a permissions problem. Even if your pics are public, you
(as a user) have to grant the app access to your data (except for the most
basic stuff such as name, etc). This wasn't necessary before, if I recall
correctly, but alas, FB API is rather unstable. They seem to change their
minds about how things work all the time (and are not afraid of breaking the
code of the suckers that use their services; you can get away with it if
 you're facebook, I guess).

 Check this out:

 http://code.google.com/p/facebook-actionscript-api/issues/detail?id=146

How do you ask the user for permssions? This doesn't have an easy answer,
I'm afraid. It depends on how your app connects to FB. I've used the
official AS library above in one project and I know it's actually a
wrapper around a JS library. Don't remember the specifics, but I do remember
that in all of the client libraries I used (the old JS client, the new JS
client that uses the new Graph API and the PHP client), you can request a
check for permissions when you call the login function; and if said
permissions were not granted, the user will be presented a popup to accept
or deny your app these permissions.

So you have to look up what's the name of the permission (whatever they
decided it to call it this week) and how you can pass that to the JS code
that actually connects to FB (I think there was something for that already
in the AS library, but I'm not positive).

This should solve the problem in most scenarios, I think there are some
cases not covered here, such as if the user is already logged in when they
get to your app; the login method won't be called, so the user won't be
asker for the necessary extended permissions; if they already grant your app
these, no problem; if they don't or they revoked them, you'll have to work
around this somehow. I remember I had to do this a while time ago (using the
new JS client for the Graph API), but it was a mess, and involved using FQL
from JS and whatnot... (all this because there's a very useful method in the
FB API that returns the user status, but they forgot to include the current
permissions granted by the user in the response; so you have to find other
way to get that data, which in my case was using an ad hoc SQLish language
called FQL. -- Sorry, this last paragraph was mostly a rant; developing
against the FB API is a bit frustrating at times...)

An alternative approach I used (but only because I had to use the new Graph
API) was doing something similar to what this guy did:

 http://wellconsidered.posterous.com/fbflashbridge-v01

It's not as nice as the official library. It's kind of bare bones: some JS
glue code around FB's JS client and a bit of Actionscript to communicates
with it. You don't have all the typed objects and stuff. I must say,
compared to adobe's lib, it was way easier to debug / troubleshoot, though
(since there's way less code and it's kind of easy to follow it; anyway, I
used this approach because I had to use the graph API, but if I had to do
any other FB app, I think I'd go this way, but that's just me, I guess).

Hope this helps somehow or at least gives you some pointers.

 Cheers
 Juan Pablo Califano

RE: [Flashcoders] Create your own t-shirt

2010-08-05 Thread David Hunter

I second that approach. I made a label maker that plugged into a python backend
and then on to their printer workflow. I only sent string data of the text they
entered, plus font choice, color, position, and what background imagery they
chose. If you could 'free draw' your own illustration then I guess we would
have sent that as an array, but maybe there is a better way to send it, I'm not
sure. The python turned the data into an SVG format for printing. Hope that
helps.

And you need to find out how to send a ByteArray back to a backend service
to save said t-shirt as an image file.

With that and Jack's TransformManager, those are the two main building
  blocks.

Having created quite a few online designers / product customisation tools,
I'd add that for print resolution imagery involving bitmaps you certainly
-don't- want to be transferring large amounts of pixel data back to the
server, compression or not (unless you don't mind long waits or low
resolution output affecting your customer abandonment rates). Better to keep
all high resolution processing (and files) on the server and to essentially
only transfer user interaction data back to the server to render out the
print ready, high resolution final format there, while keeping the whole
 process snappy.

Yes, a little painful - unfortunately some bright spark decided we did
not want to lay our properties panel out horizontally anymore. I find
putting this to the LHS has helped a little, but it would be nice if
Adobe could have done a floating type of layout for the properties -
e.g. divide properties into sections and allow each section to float
left so it can be laid out horizontally or vertically.

I do find there is not much stage space any more with having to have the
properties panel sitting on the left the tools panel is pretty useless
if you stack the properties in the same panel but I tend to have a
project window open too, which fills up the space regardless. Because
most of my work is code based rather than animation, I don't spend much
time in the IDE, although I find authoring controls, and doing layout a
chore in CS5 - hiding the timeline has helped a bit. I found Flash 8 /
CS3 to be more easy for authoring, but then I had that nicely setup and
I am still tweaking CS5. If I have to do any more heavily graphic
oriented sites I might have to knuckle down...

At least they fixed the stacking issue where SWF's used to get stuck
behind the panels if they were a high resolution and it does not crash
like CS4 with projects, I am reasonably happy with it.

Maybe Adobe bought shares in some large computer company a while ago
because we always need more real-estate, more memory and faster
processors with each new upgrade of Flash ;)
2 monitors is useful, but wish I could have a setting where it always
opens my test movie on the 2nd monitor without me having to move it :)

RE: [Flashcoders] How to handle String the best way

2010-07-22 Thread David Hunter

Not entirely sure if i understand what you want to do, but you could use a
regular expression to strip out any punctuation or unwanted characters.
String.split() breaks a string into an array of strings by using a specified
delimiter which could be a space in this situation, so each word is an
element in an array.
Apply this process to both your strings and you end up with two arrays which
should be easy to compare words and cycle through all the elements. Hope that
helps, but I've probably misunderstood what you want to do! David

Subject: [Flashcoders] How to handle String the best way

 Hi List,

I am trying to find how to best compare 2 strings(word by word).
I have 2 texts, one fully written and one abbreviated.
The texts have exactly the same amount of words and they are in the same
 order.
So in the text field one word is highlighted.
The user has to fill in the abbreviation of the text(word by word).
The user fills in his translation and ENTERS to confirm.
And then the app has to compare the words.

He can choose to practice from abbreviation to fully written words or vice
 versa.

So what is the best way to do this, keeping in mind that special characters
(like .,:;! space) must not be judged.

 Any idea is welcome.

String.replace() then a regular expression like /[,\.!\?:;\\\/]/g and replace
it with nothing: . You'll probably want to check which characters to remove
but remember to use an escape slash for certain characters. Haven't tried it
but there are some examples and lots of help in the docs and more online. not
that knowledgeable on regular expressions to be honest.

I think you understood exactly what I want.
The String.split() was also what I had in mind, but I don't know how to do a
regular expression to strip out any punctuation or unwanted characters.

Do you have an example of such action?

 Hi,

There was a version of Red5 that just installed and then you could
run the server, visit localhost:RED5_PORT in your browser and see all
the examples. The OSFlash Red5 download page seemed to be the better
 place to install from.

It is about a year since I tried installing it, so it may have got
 better :)

FWIW, we use something called mjpg-streamer on Linux for our
webcam running at 12fps and use Flash to load images rather than a
stream - this means we can share the webcam with other apps. If you
are doing a kiosk type app, where you do not connect from the outside
world, this could be a way to go forward... not sure about connecting to
 the microphone though.

I will have a dig around later and see if I can find the links - try
searching the flashcoders archive for red5 stuff - there is also a
red5 list which may or may not be active - have not seen for a while.

[Flashcoders] AIR flv encoder

2010-07-20 Thread David Hunter

Hi List,
I've been on google all day and still not found what I'm looking for. I need to
record video and audio from a webcam and save it to disk. This is a kiosk
project rather being on the web, so I am looking to do this in AIR. They could
be stored as FLV or some other video format, but I really need it to be one
file rather than separate files for video and audio. I have found a couple
libraries for writing FLVs but nothing that also writes the audio part.
Microphone data has recently been exposed so maybe someone has incorporated it
into an FLV writer. The video format isn't important as they can be converted
at a later date, but a single file combining audio and video is important. I
have also looked at red5 and FFmpeg as solutions, but FMS is too expensive. Any
shared knowledge on flv encoders or other techniques you've come across to
record both video and audio from a webcam are greatly received! Thanks, David

I put an item on and didn't have any problems. Except when I tried to cash in
my free developers certificate they were offering- they couldn't give it to me
as my trading name is the same as my real name (self-employed in the UK). So
they suggested I change my business name (!!!) and therefore all my business

For what its worth, Adobe should definitely be making more of that marketplace,
especially considering the rise of Android. I'm sure they will, it could really
take off with all the disaffected Flash people who got scuppered by Apple now
having an outlet for their app ideas.

their preferred method is to send everything as JSON format. There is a JSON

we are looking at a project where I would send them data, but we haven't

[Flashcoders] fullscreen exe not working!

2010-06-24 Thread David Hunter

Hi all,
I have made a calculator application that must be deployed as a projector .app
and .exe files. When the application launches it goes fullscreen using
fscommand. The .app version has worked fine throughout development (i'm working
on a mac using CS3 and it is programmed in AS3) but the .exe version for PC
does not work in fullscreen mode. Only the background color shows, none of the
rest of the application, but if you escape fullscreen it works fine. I don't
have a PC so this is difficult for me to test!
Has anyone run into this problem before? It seems from google that many people
have reported this problem but I have yet to discover a solution.
I am using these commands:fscommand(fullscreen,
true);fscommand(allowscale, false);
Hope someone can help me!

[Flashcoders] NetStream.Pause.Notify

2010-05-11 Thread David Hunter

Hi All,
I'm making a video player with netstream and netconnection but
NetStream.Pause.Notify is not being picked up in my NetStatusEvent.NET_STATUS
listener. It is picking up NetStream.Buffer.Full and NetStream.Play.Start
is firing when the video loads, so I don't think its anything wrong with my
code. Does anyone have any experience of problems with something similar?
I read on some forum posts that sometimes the NET_STATUS event can be very
delayed when the code is a pause. I am playing back a locally stored
progressive download flv.
Any solutions greatly appreciated,
David

not sure about audio. but here is a good but long introduction to some of the
features of HTML 5: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=siOHh0uzcuY . from memory i

complex stuff with a lot of javascript. I think canvas is in everything

Does HTML 5 do anything about the basically non-existant audio API in HTML?

I gather that the canvas tag was Apple's proposal. How does it compare
with the graphical abilities of Flash or Director?

Microsoft has not implemented the canvas tag. Is the canvas tag in the
 W3C HTML 5 spec?

And how does the canvas tag compare with the ideas around SVG, which seems
 like a competing graphical API?

In an ideal world, we could use 'open' tools with 'open' standards to create
 our apps.

But what we have, instead, are corporations struggling with one another for
 business turf/markets.

I've been a Director programmer for over ten years. Seeing what Adobe is
doing with Director, I have no allegiance to Adobe. Eventually it will be
Flash's turn to suffer the same fate.

As go these big corporations and their products, so goes my work and your
work? Then it's only a matter of time before it all becomes data trash.

By no means an ideal situation any way you look at it.

I was attracted to Director cuz I could do things with it that I couldn't do
with any other tools. Flash is now the more popular and contemporary tool
for doing these sorts of things. And it has equalled Director in various
(though not all) ways. So I'm learning Flash.

But I wonder if it'll all be data trash in twenty years.

RE: [Flashcoders] Interaction between clips and main timeline in AS3.

2010-04-16 Thread David Hunter

Hi,
Seems you may have solved this by turning off strict mode. An alternative way
(depending on how flexible you can be with your program) would be to reverse
your approach and listen to what frame the clip is on (myClip.currentFrame) and
perform functions accordingly. As long as you know what frame you want to
trigger a function, you can do all the programming on the timeline in one
place. I have put an example on pastebin for you to try. MyClip is a 12 frame
animated movieclip in the library. Here is the link: http://pastebin.org/153959
Hope it helps,

Unity is good. Real good. They're doing a lot of things right over there.

Just to keep perspective, though, there are some downsides.

 - Plug-in penetration is low
 - It only does 3D
 - For more complex apps, you need to go beyond the drag-and-drop stuff
and write code. I believe C# is the language of choice.
 - It's relatively new. If you've been around a while, you have seen a
number of good technologies come and go. iTribe, mTropolis, Icon
 Author, etc.

Of course, new apps sometimes succeed. Unity's main competition is
probably Director/Shockwave, which positions Unity very nicely. They
might make the cut--as I said, they have some Real Good People working
for them. The technology is there, and the marketing is making
 inroads. Time will tell.

I actually went to a unity meetup and demo the other week to check it out. Very
impressive, the quality is excellent and you can deliver across many platforms
easily (browser, desktop app, wii, iPhone). The problem with the browser is
less than 1% have the plugin installed compared to 98% for flash. I think you
can use a few different languages in it, pretty sure that includes JavaScript.

 from the website:
Unity supports three scripting languages: JavaScript, C#, and a dialect of
 Python called Boo.
I'm sure more than 1% has it installed by now, I've seen more unity content
than silverlight content and unity is a bit older and I've read silverlight
is at about 60% in some countries, so my guess is that Unity may be around
 the same numbers.

Anway.. I think those stats shouldn't be too important, I believe if the app
appeals enough(people see screenshots, vids of it), installation of unity
(which is the most painless plugin installation in my view) follows.

@Karl: No, Unity cannot be ported to Flash.. That would've made a good
april's fools joke tho ;). ps. the Unity tutorials are pretty good on their
website, just download the free version and dig in :).

 cheers,

Second that for Papervision - though you should know Matt and I

right in his assessment. If I did decide to drop PV3D, I'd probably
switch to Away3D. To guess based on what I have read, and only
what I
have rolling around in my head as a general feel and no data to
back
this up (and I have only actually used Papervision), I would guess
rank them like this:

Robustness of features and possibilities (best being #1):

1. Papervision3D
2. Away3D
3. Sandy3D
4. Five3D (vector based - much smaller engine than the others, but
nice
small footprint)

From a performance perspective, my general feel/guess (best being
#1):

1. Away3D/Five3D
2. Papervision3D/Sandy3D

From an overall footprint size (lowest being #1):

1. Five3D
2. Away3D/ Sandy3D(?)/Papervision3D

From the perspective of overall documentation and support and
size of
user community, I would rank them (best being #1):

1. Papervision3D
2. Away3D/Sandy3D
3. Five3D

So overall, for general project needs (depending on what you are
doing),
I would rank them as (best being #1):
1. Papervision3D
2. Away3D
3. Sandy3D/Five3D

Athough from what I understand, Away3D is a really nice engine and
worth
looking into as well.

Wow that is a depressing end to the week and a massive deflation for the launch
of CS5 on Monday which I was really looking to upgrade to as I'm still on CS3.
I got an iPhone a couple months ago on the basis that I might get to do some
development for it. It will be interesting to see how the developer community
reacts to this- from comments on a few different sites/blog posts it seems they
are split down the middle. Some say this is outrageous money-grubbing (and a
kick in the balls for Adobe), too draconian and will harm Apple; others say if
you want to develop for the iPhone OS then you just need to learn the tools ie.
objective-C. I make flash stuff on a MacBook Pro. Right now, I feel dirty...

I found this a useful guide when I switched:

 Thanks Mattheis.
Because I freelance, I can end up creating or taking over project.
I know that I don't have to use them, but I would like to learn how
 they work so that
if I take on another persons project, I'm not all thumbs and I can

But, I also figured there was a basic structure to it like AS2AS2
that was apart from the design patterns.
I just need to get into the functionality of AS3 to see what I can

Well thank you all for your input, I will most likely be talking to

 Thanks for that Chris.
I am interested in seeing what GAIA is. I have heard of the DVD and I

I never even touched AS1. I just dove right into AS2 projects. That

I figure I can do the same with AS3. I guess what frightens me if

 haven't wrote any so
guess its time to get my hands dirty.

My experience is that you can't close the default vp (video player) in an
FLVPlayback instance, so you *never* use it. What were they thinking?!

Before you load a video, you set the vp index to whatever you want, just not
 zero!

 myflv.activeVideoPlayerIndex = 1
 myflv.source =hippo.flv

 Then when you're done...
 myflv.closeVideoPlayer(1);

When working with active indexes, i find this page incredibly useful to find
out what FLVPlayback properties are affected by activeVideoPlayerIndex...
 http://livedocs.adobe.com/flash/9.0/ActionScriptLangRefV3/fl/video/FLVPlayback.html#activeVideoPlayerIndex

On your side note (I can't find anything in the docs on adding new
instances of VideoPlayer Class), you don't have to do anything to add a
new instance, all you do is set the flvplayback's activeVideoPlayerIndex to
a new number, and it's ready to load a new vid. If you want to see that new
vid, set the visibleVideoPlayerIndex to the same number.

 cheers

[Flashcoders] flv stop loading / close netconnection

2010-03-22 Thread David Hunter

Hi list, . Reallly hoping for some help on this.. Making a portfolio site
that handles both images and video. I have an flv instance and a sprite that
contains loaded images. Images and videos work fine. The problem is if I try to
go to an image half way through a video downloading. in that situation i jump
to the image and once the video has finished downloading it suddenly appears.
Going from video to video (halfway through a download) is fine as the source is
being overwritten each time but when it comes to an image I need to use
myFLV.getVideoPlayer(0).close() to stop the download. That works ok except if I
try to go back to the same video which download I terminated then it says
Error: Cannot call reconnect on an http connection . I cannot set the source
to be or null either or it pulls an error. . Can anyone give me any help on
stopping an FLV from loading once you have set the source and then being able
to restart that download? . Thanks in advance,
David

RE: [Flashcoders] flv stop loading / close netconnection

2010-03-22 Thread David Hunter

Thanks for responding Erik.
Unfortunately I can't use closeVideoPlayer() as it shuts the default player
which isn't allowed. On a side note I can't find anything in the docs on adding
new instances of VideoPlayer Class to an FLV even though there is plenty of
talk of getting different VideoPlayer classes stacked inside an FLVPlayback
instance (eg. myFLVPlayback.getVideoPlayer() or
myFLVPlayback.visibleVideoPlayerIndex ) . Any ideas?
I have temporarily solved the problem with the nastiest workaround ever by
passing # as the source. Seems to work for some reason but I'm sure it will
come back and bite me. In the end I may have to make a new instance of
FLVPlayback for each video and kill the old instance.
Thanks,
David

 Hmmm, thats interesting then.
I did a search on google for 15 percent of 3000 and it came back
 with 450.
I am thinking google doesn't have it wrong, but whoo knows.
When I run the script with those parameters, it equates correctly

 15 * 3000 / 100 = 450 (15% of 3000)
 however 15 / 3000 * 100 = 0.5

What am I missing here then if it is not percent*total/100?
