Have you slain the Chieftan? I don't believe you could have, but I'm trying
to make sure I have the right chamber in mind. If I do, that is not the
final chamber. Keep exploring, and take heart in the knowledge that that is
one of the more simple maps.

2006-04-05 Thread Yohandy
hello all,
I have sent the developer of this game an E-mail, but just wanted to post it
to the list as wlel, just in case anyone else experienced this error.
When I try running Ace fire, after hitting OK on the box telling me that the
sounds will be played, I get the following error.
AutoIt Error
Line 0 (File "C:\Program Files\QUAG\Ace Fire\ace fire.exe"):
runwait(@workingdir & "\comtest.exe")
Error: Unable to execute the external program.
OK
has anyone else had this problem, and how did you resolve it? This sounds
like a fun little game. I'd love to try it out.
Thanks!

Re: [Audyssey] Monty.

2006-04-05 Thread Ryan Conroy
Hi Tom,
If you check the original demo, you'll see the their were different sounds when
dealing with the latters.
If you stepped on a latter going downward, you would hear the sound of a
latter being climbed. If you did the opposit, meaning latter was going upward,
their was a sound that just sounded as if you were walking on the metal.
Again, I'm not in anyway bashing the development of the game, I'm just telling
you the way it was originally. You seemed to have that one thing confused.
*grin*
I had a lot of fun testing this game, and I'm sure you'll do a great job at
picking up the torch. If you need a tester, shoot me an Email.
Take care,
Ryan C.

"So you sedate and drown in vain
You've got a pill for every day
A suit and tie to mask the truth
It's ugly head is starting to show through
Sometimes when you're out of rope
The way to climb back up's unclear
The walls you build around yourself
I guess they also keep you here
Are you afraid of what they think?
Whoever 'they' happen to be
Or are you hiding from the scars
Of your own reality?
The monster you're feeding, your lack of perception
The things that you do to fulfill addictions
The light at the end of your tunnel is closing
What is it that you're so afraid of exposing
You'd give it all up
For what's there for the taking
Whatever it takes to keep your hands from shaking
The same things you're thinking might make you feel better
The same things that probably got you here." - Aaron Lewis

Hey man, no problem. I knew how to fix it, so I didn't mind sharing the fix.
You may have to search around for the file name while jaws cursoring, but it
is there, also, if you don't want to do this, if you will give me your

If such a time zone standard would be in place and then the UTC,
universal time code, would be the only real choice. However, we can
hardly force every member and developer to learn and understand the UTC,

and find out where there home falls in it.

Hi,
Not bashing your idea, but I feel we really need a good purpose for
this. I can understand for game chats, but in your previous post you
mentioned game releases.
In my experiences game releases happen when they happen, and you will
find out when it is truly out. It is never a good idea to be the first
to go get it as you are not going to get prime bandwidth, download
speeds, and so on. You are litterally elbowing your way to get the file.

Hi list,
I'm sure Raul has already given a message to close the topic, but I
would like to give my input here.
Raul and I both have repetedly asked you guys to email us when you
suspect a message topic is off topic. In fact this entire thread has had
OT in the subject. I would like to refer the list to rule 5 which states
that off topic posting is totally at the descression of the moderators.
Please, keep this in mind for the future.
As for a universal time zone I am neutral on the topic. I don't really
care which way it goes, but I won't force one upon the developers and
listers that read this list.
Thanks.

As a tester for this game when James North had the rights to it, this statement
is faulse.

was not knowing which way to go on the ladder and here comes a spider or
a skull hot on your heals. This is where practice and memory comes in to
play. No the first time or two you might lose and die. However, in time

When you were being chased, or not being chased, you allways knew whether to go
up or down on a latter. If you needed to go up, you would hear the regular
metal sound, however, if you needed to go down, you'd hear the climbing sound
when you stepped on the latter.
It'd be a good thing to have a sound telling you to go up or down as James did
in his version, but in the end as earlier stated, it's all up to you. Memory
will play a factor in this game no matter what.
Take care,

Hi,
You can if you used the review keys to look. I might mention the review

So before you enter a hostile room you can look around to see where the

Not only discovery, but really we are talking one wasted key stroke if

Hi Ryan,
You are right of course. Interesting you should bring up Laura as she is
the very character I am basing Angela Smith on except in instead of
being Brittish Angela is American, and she has a different name. Always
avoid copyrights when and where possible. Grin.
Anyway, I have developed a new jump sound and it may be better than the
original. I'm comparing the two. In the end as you said some things may
will just have to be decided by me.

2006-04-05 Thread Thomas Ward
Which brings us to the next question what sound can be used to make the
difference in direction. I know you mentioned falling gravel, etc which
is a good idea, but at the moment I don't have anything like that on
hand Although, it would be something that probably can be created by a
sound amature like me.

Re: [Audyssey] ladder sounds - Re: Montezuma's Revenge Preview.

2006-04-05 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Charles,
You are correct that memory was a large part of the original game, but
the same argument can't be made for the ladders. You could see which way
they went except for the rooms that were completely dark and you didn't
have a torch. I don't know I am worried if I make to many changes here I
may actually give up some of the challenge of the game.
In the case of the Alchemy version one of the interesting things I found
was not knowing which way to go on the ladder and here comes a spider or
a skull hot on your heals. This is where practice and memory comes in to
play. No the first time or two you might lose and die. However, in time
it can be learned on level x in room x you have to go this way on this
or that ladder. Makes it more interesting.

argument that is coming there isn't time to do that if there is a

Exactly my point. The direction you want to go is equaled on the game

  Tom,

I'm just going to stick my neck out and say it:
It drives me crazy that people seem to think devs' games should have so
many
adaptations. "Why don't you make this an option?" "Maybe you should make
it
so we can pick the music we want?" "How about we pick our favorite sound
and
you let us use that one?"
Tom, man, it's your game. It's your canvas, your brush, and your paint. If
we're talking about usability here, take suggestions, but as far as
artistic
integrity is concerned, go for the gold. If you like the original jump
sound
you made, go for it. If you like the new music better, use it. If you
think
the ladders should be made out of chocolate, and that they should have a
characteristic squish when you climb them (the Aztecs did discover
chocolate), by all means, flex your creative muscles.
Bottom line: you're an artist, and if you think it's good, that's what's
  important.
Besides, Lara did make those grunting sounds when she jumped. We won't
discuss what she did if she happened to die. A certain, nasty, old-world
  reference is coming to mind.

  Hi Richard,
Did you download the mp3 file, or did it attempt to play in Windows
  Media Player?
You should have downloaded the mp3 to your hard drive. If not then your
media setting must be setup to attempt to play files from the source
which is not how that file was meant.
In the future to avoid this move your curser to the download link, use

What difference does the timezone make? January 1 2007 is still
January 1 2007 whether you live in New York or Japan. Only difference
is what part of the world the sun happens to be over. Unless you're
talking about something completely different at which point you
should use something other than timezones.

Let's close this thread before it gets list members into a war regarding
time zones. It really has nothing to do with games anyway.

Thank you.

Hello Harrison.

The server on which audyssey.org is hosted on and consequently this
list, is on the Eastern time zone. Regardless of this fact, when ever a
game developer wishes to release a game is up to that person. I think we

can all assume that the game will not be available until after the email

message which goes out telling you all about it. Because of this the
little details on whether the game is released at 3AM Eastern or 9PM
Pacific are not relevant to the time zone.

Also, may I remind you of rule number 5 in the list guidelines?

I don't think we should be wedded to a timezone.
Everyone has different timezones.
Eg today is thursday, tomorrow is thursday in the us, and today is
thursday night in the uk.
Or is it wednesday?
The point is we will get confused, let it lie guys,
saying that I think gmt if any timezone is chosen should be a base
since it is what all time zones come off anyway.

Re: [Audyssey] Ot: timezones

2006-04-05 Thread shaun everiss
I don't think we should be wedded to a timezone.
Everyone has different timezones.
Eg today is thursday, tomorrow is thursday in the us, and today is
thursday night in the uk.
Or is it wednesday?
The point is we will get confused, let it lie guys,
saying that I think gmt if any timezone is chosen should be a base
since it is what all time zones come off anyway.

Memory had nothing to do with it. Of course being visual you could tell if
it was going up or down. If it were going down all you would see is the top
of the ladder and if it were going up you would see the ladder climbing
upward.

Re: [Audyssey] Ot: timezones

2006-04-05 Thread Raul A. Gallegos

What difference does the timezone make? January 1 2007 is still
January 1 2007 whether you live in New York or Japan. Only difference
is what part of the world the sun happens to be over. Unless you're
talking about something completely different at which point you

2006-04-05 Thread Neo
I might need to hear the difference when stepping on the ladder and not
knowing the level yet. If a spider was on my tail and I could tell that I
hafta climb up, for example, to escape, it could save my life. :-)
Anyway, doesn't really matter - it's just a little detail, and, in fact,
when I think about it now, having to discover it by myself without knowing
and even getting killed in the process might add a bit more challenge to the
entire fun.

2006-04-05 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Thank you Ryan. Personally I don't care if the music sounds one way or
another. I don't care if the ladders I pass have an up or down sound.
That is part of memorizing the level. Putting in all these adaptations
in my opinion would make the game not have as much replay value.

In the end, Tom, do what you feel is right and people will either buy
the game or they will not.

2006-04-05 Thread Ryan Strunk
Tom,

I'm just going to stick my neck out and say it:
It drives me crazy that people seem to think devs' games should have so many
adaptations. "Why don't you make this an option?" "Maybe you should make it
so we can pick the music we want?" "How about we pick our favorite sound and
you let us use that one?"
Tom, man, it's your game. It's your canvas, your brush, and your paint. If
we're talking about usability here, take suggestions, but as far as artistic
integrity is concerned, go for the gold. If you like the original jump sound
you made, go for it. If you like the new music better, use it. If you think
the ladders should be made out of chocolate, and that they should have a
characteristic squish when you climb them (the Aztecs did discover
chocolate), by all means, flex your creative muscles.
Bottom line: you're an artist, and if you think it's good, that's what's
important.
Besides, Lara did make those grunting sounds when she jumped. We won't
discuss what she did if she happened to die. A certain, nasty, old-world
reference is coming to mind.

Hi Charles,
I can understand how memory is a factor in figuring out the easiest path to
reaching the goals in the game, but sighted people had no problem knowing if
a ladder went up or down since they could see it above or below them.
Having a down ladder make a different sound would give a blind player that
same advantage.

Re: [Audyssey] Montezuma's Revenge Preview.

2006-04-05 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi,
Technically, the wood sounds for the ladder platforms and the ladders
are different. However, to the untrained ear they sound pretty similar.
With the metal ladders the difference between them were allot more apparent.

Re: [Audyssey] Monty Traler

2006-04-05 Thread Phil Vlasak
Hi Thomas,
You are correct in that Sod deals with degrees smaller than 90, in fact 7.5
I think.
Tank Commander uses even smaller turns either 5 or 6 degrees. But Pacman
only turns 90 degrees and my original Sarah beta did the same.
I have since switched Sarah to 15 degree turns as many people requested
this. It is only useful in large rooms and in the quittage pitch.
 Phil

2006-04-05 Thread Neo
I meant that Alchemy's version sounded somewhat different so that you could
tell whether you are standing on the bottom of a ladder that has to be
climbed up or whether you're standing on the top of a ladder that you have
to climb downwards. In some situations, like when you're escaping a hungry
poisonous beast or a sharp-toothed rollin' skull, this might come in handy.

HOpe this clears my suggestion up a bit,

Re: [Audyssey] Anyone got a top speed server up?

2006-04-05 Thread Neo
HI,
it all depends on the way your router settings interface is handled. You can
go to:
http://www.whatismyip.com
to get to know your IP, for example. And the only port that has to be
forwarded for Top Speed servers to work is 25989. Letting a single port
through (setting a virtual server is what some routers might call it) is
much easier than forwarding multiple ports within a particular range at
once, which would have to be done if you wanted to run an FTP server, for
example. :-)
My router, for example, has a web setup interface in itself, so the only
thing I have to do to set anything up is to put my router's ip into the
browser's address bar, and I am right in, everything is done through quite
accessible web pages.
I believe your router might behave more or less similarly to this scheme. So
you might try to get to know something more about your router and if you
want to know anything more, just let me know.

Hope this helps.
Take care,
Lukas
