[Audyssey] Topic closed was blatant Forgery regarding Ivan
Hi, list. Ok, I now feel it necessary to close this topic. We the moderators were fine allowing this topic as long as it did not generate in to flaming. However, a couple of recent posters, you know who you are, have decided to start the name calling which is technically flaming. For this reason I am immediately closing this topic. I understand how tempers over a case like this can get pretty high, that people will get angry, and that they will start saying things to vent that anger/frustration. However, we the moderators have set in place rules of common conduct for this list which we want all listers to follow. It was sad that Raul and I were left with no choice but to ban Ivan for this very reason that he refused to follow the guidelines, and refused to change his conduct to the list and the moderators. Let's close this topic quickly so no one will have to end up on moderation. We don't like having to do it, but we will enforce the guidelines at all times. Thanks. ___ Gamers mailing list .. [Audyssey] Moderator warning Ivan and name calling.
Hi, list. Let's nip this in a bud before it really gets started. First, Ivan is no longer on this list do to being banned well over a week ago for his behavior towards the list owner and moderators. So no one needs to repeatedly ask for this since it has been done a long time ago. Second, we all know that flaming is not allowed on list. In my opinion calling someone a "moron" falls under the no flaming guidelines, and we the moderators will not allow fellow listers to repeatedly call other listers past, present, or future condesending names even though you may feel that way about that individual. The next person I find who calls Ivan or anyone else a name like "moron" etc will find himself on temperary moderation. Thanks. ___ Gamers mailing list .. Re: [Audyssey] blatant Forgery regarding Ivan
Hello, Simon and all. Ivan has already been banned from this list. It wasn't over this current sl theft, but over constantly breaking list guidelines, and then mouthing off to the mods about why he should be allowed to break the guidelines. That said I don't like people to bad mouth Ivan by calling him moron etc. /We all, should set a good example by not stuping to his level. That means not calling him names even though he has done someone wrong. simon.dowling wrote: > unfortunately, no amount of prayers is gona save this sucker. > he says that he is Brandon at the start of the trailer, then he doesn't no > even how to play his own game, ahem sorry liams game total muppet if you ask > me. > I vote for this mauron to be permantly be band from this list. > ___ Gamers mailing list .. I second that motion, I'm sorry, but this guy doesn't deserve the time of day if you ask me. I don't care, he's ripping off developers who've worked long and hard on games, ah ah, not allowed, bad bad. If I'm stepping out of line by saying that he should be banned and not allowed to be on this list anymore, then tell me, but I think a lot of us are really peeved at this moron. I am concerned that it's not Open Source may mean I can't actually do the stuff I need to -- such as interface to a TTS engine, or allow people to modify it fully, or ensure there are demos for people to try. Additionally, it's not multiplayer-centric, like Quake 3 or Unreal Tournament and that's something I want to make accessible in the future (the collaborative stuff). Also, the map-editing side will be very complex, as opposed to that for Quake 1 and, to some extent, Quake 3. However, it is worth considering. If at a personal level I consider DooM 3, I must also consider Unreal Tournament because my main objections (non-Open Source) hold for that game too, but it is new and it is very nice to develop with. One final caveat about DooM 3 is that, eventually, as with Quake 3, it is expected that it will be Open Sourced, so there is always that... Thanks to everyone who's made suggestions so far. We are a long way off seriously looking at this (end of summer at the earliest, as I want to tidy up AudioQuake and make development on it easier for the community first) so there is lots of scope for future discussion. This new game, whatever it is, will be for you, the community, and I want to ensure it gives you the tools to do what you like with it. best regards, -- Matthew T. However, the engines are now very limited and not played much and we'd like to keep the AGRIP project reasonably current with the next game, whatever and whenever that may be. quote > If you still wanted to stay with quake quake2 and quake 3. end-quote Quake 3 is the next logical choice, as it is Open Source and popular (and will be for a while yet; QuakeWorld -- the game AudioQuake is based on -- still is!) I would like to use the Unreal Tournament engine but it's not Open Source and doesn't look like it's ever going to be. That's a shame, because it is a much better environment for developing extensible gamecode than the Quake engines. Cheers muchly for the input! best regards, -- Matthew T. I am a little concerned about developing on a non Open Source engine because I may need access to it to actually make the accessibility work. I will have to look into this, however. Also, there would need to be a demo version of DooM 3 so that people could try the AGRIP game first. Unfortunately, my computer is not capable of running DooM 3. Re: [Audyssey] Big News from the AGRIP Project
Ari, Thanks for the input. It may interest you to know that you can use the shareware (no cost, downloadable) version of Quake. It can be downloaded and installed by the AudioQuake installer for you as part of the setup process. I firmly agree with all of these posts. Ron, I am sorry to hear that you lost someone close to you, I believe we all know how that feels. Man, take your time, your personal life is much more important than that magazine is when all the chips are put on the table. So like this post said, take care of your self first and only yourself(and of course your family) first then all other things should fall in place. BEAN ___ Gamers mailing list .. we've had kids on here for years, none of them have sunk as low as that to my knowledge. kid or not, there's no excuse for cheating, lying ... well you get the idea! and the quotes system crash, seems just a tad too convenient for my liking! we don't need people like ivan and his behaviour in the gamers community. i hope for his sake he learns a lesson. has anyone actually approached him and told him of the suspicions re copying liams game? Re: [Audyssey] [SPAM] Re: blaytont Forgery regarding Ivan
I wasn't going to say anything, but had to from a learning how to program better game developer type standpoint. I had a feeling that Ivan wasn't telling the truth, don't know what it was, but it just didn't seem right to me. I have never played Super Lium, but have heard that it is a great game. I know that I haven't contributed any games yet, but have a few free ones in the works, just to give me practice programming audio games and trying to perfect my menus in the programs, which I think I have done. I really appreciate the AgDev-Newbies list, cause they have helped me out tremendously with various aspects of my programming games. Anyways, what upsets me is people out there actually trying to learn programming so that they can develop games for us, and then some people come along and steal ideas, and try to steal code. I know from experience, when you cheat like that, you are only cheating yourself in the long run, it is wrong to do stuff like that. Writing programs isn't easy work for most people, and alot of work goes into even the small free games, let alone the major development projects such as Railracer, Monty, and Super Liam. I don't know about major products, cause I have yet to write one, but from the little projects that I have written for school, they aren't easy, and I, frankly, am disappointed in the actions of Ivan. Anyways there is my 1 1/2 cents worth. BEAN ___ Gamers mailing list .. Re: [Audyssey] blaytont Forgery regarding Ivan
Ivan originally recorded that so called demo for me when he asked me to tell the blind gamers list here that his game was for real. I wasn't going to put my reputation on the line for him without solid proof that he was developing a game, but I was willing to help him out if I could, if he were sincerely developing a game. I too took it into sound forge and restored it to full speed. I haven't played super liam, but I figured he had just ripped off another game and recorded it as his own. When I asked him to send me his code section for the keyboard input, he went mysteriously silent until this afternoon. I received an email from him telling me his system had crashed completely and he had lost everything. The message he sent me was a response to a message I had sent him earlier yesterday, proving that he was lying once again about the crash. Like Thomas and Raul, I have been very patient with Ivan, trying to help him out and offer a little guidance in proper behavior, something he is obviously sorely lacking at home. No more. I am removing Ivan from the rail racer list and refunding his money for the beta. I want nothing more to do with him. This is sad, as he is really just a kid, but he is old enough to learn better, and simply refuses to do so. I hope he grows up someday, but I for one am done with him. Take care all. Well, I am getting down from my soapbox, and won't be discussing this topic again as far as I know. ___ Gamers mailing list .. Re: [Audyssey] blaytont Forgery regarding Ivan
When I found about this I was personally offended on behalf of Liam but even so for myself. I've always found Super Liam one of my favorite games. Not saimply because it's a great game but because it has some personal wonderful memories. When this game came out I was going through some hard times in life regarding my family. This game comes out and I purchased it immediately without even playing the demo. As I played the game my oldest son really got into it. He loved listening to me play the game and even tried it himself. It got to the point where I think in his mind Super Liam was a great hero. One day I was talking with Liam on Ventrilo and my son Tristian came into the room. He got really excited that I'd be talking to a super hero. What I'm saying is that this game is not only fun but it continues to remind me of the close bond I have with my kids but especially Tristian who is now 10 years old in this case. It really upsets and offends me that someone would try to degrade a good piece of software by using it in an attempt to call it a new game. As I was listening to this so-called trailer yesterday my son heard it and asked, "Dad, why are you playing Super Liam in slower audio?" Which to me this said, hey, I recognize this game for what it is. He then went on to say, why is that guy talking so close into the microphone? Will he ruin it? This show me how smart my 10 year old is, not even he was fooled by this attempt of a trailer. Anyway, I just wanted to share this with everyone so they could know from a very happy customer what Super Liam means to me and my son. * Liam Erven <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> [060706 00:27]: > I was given permission by the mods to post this so that everyone knows what's > going on. Re: [Audyssey] Big News from the AGRIP Project
Hi, Great to hear that. I would suggest Doom3 as well. It is relatively new (2-3 years?), the gameplay isn't that diverse, there's lots of good audio in the game already (some parts of the game are near complete darkness anyway) and than it would be the first game to be accessible for the blind AND the deaf (see http://gamescc.rbkdesign.com/). [Audyssey] The recording
Hi liam. Just thought I'd also better let you know while we're on the subject of faking another game by recording superliam. Recently I found a game, known as "the unnamed game" which was also the superliam demo, but with new sound effects and music. Can't remember the exact url, but thought I'd better let you know so you can try and track it down. Regards, Damien ___ Gamers mailing list .. [Audyssey] Code Factory's mobile phone games
Hello all, I'm sorry if this was asked before, but when I looked back over the discussion on Mobile phone games, I couldn't find this discussed. Firstly, as owners of Mobilespeak will know, Mobilespeak does come with a game of Minesweeper. My real question is that Code Factory have got other games for mobile phones, which you can buy in a pack. They also have I think a colour detecting thing used with the phone, and a light detecting program. The problem is that the dealer here doesn't sell these extra softwares, and when I go and download the games to try, it won't let me, I need a code to actually unlock and register them. Has anyone tried the games, and what are they like? I also wonder if their are any games playable by wap, sort of online games? I agree that it would be cool to have so more entertainment for the mobile phones. Actually, talking about Code Factory, all their products are actually extremely hard to get. I did get KM2000 from Independent Living Aids, but their's nowhere where you can buy their games online. Another thing is that, I actually contacted Once to ask them the prices of the games, and the shipping to SA was about 3 times as much as the game! We still wonder whether they sort of made a mistake, but I have asked Sensory Solutions to see how much they can get the games for, still waiting for the answer. Ari Ari ___ Gamers mailing list .. [Audyssey] owners note was Re: blaytont Forgery regarding Ivan
hi all, before anyone starts getting to in-depth about this topic, i'd just like to point out that ivan is currently not a member of this list. after much discussion between myself and tom and raul, he was temporarily removed from the list a week or so ago. mainly due to his attitude to other members and the misleading (some may even call it blatent lying) about the game he was supposed to be working on. i am telling you all this as i do not want the list cluttered up with useless messages aimed at ivan when he won't be able to read them. by all means comment on what liam has posted, but please remember the list guidelines! just because the member in question is not here, doesn't mean it's ok to abuse him. The file was shifted down by 3 semi tones for some reason, and the file was of Ivan explaining his new game and giving a demonstration of it. As I love to do, I took the file in to sound forge and decided to play with it. I knew the file wasn't naturally recorded the way it was, so I shifted it up. To my amazement, the file sounded very much like Super Liam. I had originally thought that maybe he had sampled the sounds. Upon closer listening and some compression work, I found unmistakable proof that the game had actually been recorded and the sounds shifted down. I was absolutely furious. What Ivan was attempting to do was to play my own product, and then to say that what he was playing was his own creation. It does not work like that. that is balytonly against the law. [Audyssey] the horse racing game problematic!
NB: This email and its contents are subject to our email legal notice which can be viewed at http://www.sars.gov.za/Email_Disclaimer.pdf Guys, I'm really hopeless at this stage with the horse racing game. I now have, according to my knowledge, the newest version of windows, xp service pack 2. And I still find a bug in the game. Let me explain this to you step by step: With the m key jaws says my position is 97, so its very near to the ending point all right? When my horse is galloping I hear the trumpet sound and the commentator announces my horse as the winner. I hear no applause. I waited and waited and waited for the game to say: press y for another match etc. but I heard nothing. When I pressed space my horse galloped. Now, my position is staying on 100 and I gallop hundreds of times without any obstacles although my opponent still gets obstacles. After a long time of only galloping I hear the trumpet sound again and this time my opponent is announced and I hear the applause and the prompt. Why is this happening? Isn't the game always suppose to end or take me to the bonus round if the trumpet plays for the first time and the winner is announced? I'm really confused and I did installed the patch! ___ Gamers mailing list .. Re: [Audyssey] Big News from the AGRIP Project
Hi Mathew, I love the concept of agrip modifying sighetd games, but my problem is that I really can't try it, since I can't get Quake. In the future, if you're going to make games accessible, you should really try and see if you yourselves can't make the game that is being modified available. People say that I should look for Quake on Ebay, but first I don't even know if South Africans can use ebay, they certainly can't open a paypal account, and I'd also hate to use my mom's credit card and buy from a dishonest buyer. I also can't find an old version of Quake anywhere else, so I really don't know what exactly to do. Ari ___ Gamers mailing list ..
