Re: [Audyssey] ATTN!! message from Munawar bijani about bpcprograms
This is where we as a community should put our foot down against such things as charge backs, pirates, etc. We are really a small market that noone will program if their stuff is being pirated. The person can be happy the programmer isn't naming him as I'm sure we as the community wouldn't have let this go. Re: [Audyssey] ATTN!! message from Munawar bijani about bpcprograms
that is an extremely sad story, especially the business with the charges filed, the hole suing culture has gone quite out of hand in many respects, and it's sad that this has had such an effect on the audio game's markit, I do agree that the audio gamers community needs to support our developers, not sue them or pirate their games. One thing does occur to me though. After I first discovered audio games last year, I investigated quite a few audio games, including treasurehunt. Unfortunately, the game required net Framework v1, which I couldn't get working at all, I know now this was due to it's habbit of creating extra user accounts, but at the time I just thought something was going completely wrong with my computer. As thomas ward said though, Net framework v2 doesn't have any of those problems, and I now have a completely working version, and if treasurehunt was stil available, I would certainly have downloaded the game and quite possibly bought it, I'm sure this probably goes for others as well. I hope at some point Munawar will return to accessible games developement, sinse it is games with a complex story line that (imho), we most need. the official rating of a game (E or whatever), Imho doesn't matter so much as it's complexity, and it sounds like treasurehunt had plenty of that. Re: [Audyssey] blank block from lite tech interactive
I've also played the board game before under the name of solitare. According to this Wikipedia entry on the subject, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peg_solitaire) the board game is known as solitare mainly here in England, and the solitare card games were traditionally called patience. my grandmar always referred to seven card stack patience meaning the standard solitare game. I'm glad that Light tech have made the Blank block game easier than the peg Solitare game I knew, because as has already been said, that game is murderously hard (hence my looking it up on Wikipedia). Re: [Audyssey] blank block from lite tech interactive
That's some interesting info. Thanks for posting it. By the way, I have just tried blank block, and am addicted. It's played like the game Hi Q, only it's better. The only suggestion I have so far would be to have the game say blank if a row or column is cleared. This would save time and be easier to keep track of. rather than it say that each space is blank, blank, blank, and so on. - Original Message - From: Dark [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Monday, December 04, 2006 8:32 AM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] blank block from lite tech interactive I've also played the board game before under the name of solitare. Hi Sky, That is my plan. I can not guarantee when the game will be released because bugs have a tendency to be difficult to crush some times. The game that I have played is exactly as you have said. a board with 33 holes and you have 32 pegs. You jump over pegs and remove the one being jumped over. Re: [Audyssey] Unlocking self-destruct
The part walking through a door where a wall once was isn't a bug. It's a feature in the game. In level 10 whether you manage to complete the upper floor with the holes in it or you try to teleport you have to find room 70 and then walk to your right. I find holding down the right arrow while you are in room 70 will move your character quickly. Because you have a minute to find the door but if you hold down your right arrow key you will manage to walk to the door in a few seconds. If you get to room 100 on the upper floor in level 10 you have to press a button in room1 before finding room70. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of x-sight interactive Sent: Monday, December 04, 2006 9:30 AM To: Gamers Discussion list Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Unlocking self-destruct basically, something to do with the lord urchin battle, something about the coordination, couldn't get rid of the other room to make the battlefield or somethin' similar. something about you could just walk through back to the room of level 10, through what's meant to be a wall. ___ Gamers mailing list .. [Audyssey] christmass woop ass
Hi All I enjoy christmass woop ass. This is something I have noticed which is not written in the manual. If you press your left right or up arrow you will hit old man Stanley either, left right or middle. The manual doesn't sayh this, the manual only sayh that you hit old man stanly with either left or right shift or space. The arrows work better for me. The down arrow does nothing. ___ Gamers mailing list .. While I myself didn't buy treasure hunt I appreciated his free offerings and I still have them. I'd be willing to bet I know who it was that filed the false charge against Munawar, but like Munawar I won't name my suspect. I would be willing to bet, however, that it was one of those thirteen-year-olds who claim to make games and then never put anything out, all the while accusing everyone else of being frauds. Re: [Audyssey] STFC 1.0 released.
Hi. I know I have the latest version of net framework because I downloaded it very recently. Just in case it was Direct X (I have no idea what version of Direct X I have on here), I downloaded the Direct X 9 files from Usa games, the minor problem was that direct X didn't check for my previous install, so I just told it to create a folder in C:\program files\direct X and extract the direct X files there. I'm not sure if this has updated or not, or what to do with tese files to make the update happen, or to check what version of direct x I'm running. any help with any or all of these would be much appreciated, sinse I'm really looking forward to playing Thanks in advance, Beware the Grue! dark. Memo to self, use noggin! I noticed that the folder where i extracted all the direct x files had vanished, so I did a search. I found a very handy file (in windowszdirect X), called direct X set up. I! am! A fool! Well, at least for a bonus the game is now working. I'm extremely sorry to bother everyone! to everyone else who got the Stfc has encountered a problem message, try doing what I did, download direct X, extract the files somewhere, then go into windows\direct X and run the set up exe. Now if people will excuse me, I need to boldly go you know where! Beware the Grue! (though if I continue making bodges like that, i deserve to be it's lunch!). Hi Bryan! I don't remember where I read this, but they did a test with teenagers and their computers. When the teenagers were happy with their computer in the games they played there computer seemed to perform better than the teenagers that were always upset with their computer and the games they were playing. I am not sure what I believe concerning that test. However, computers are all electronic and electrnic fields and the human body produces some electric fields around the body. that could have some kind of affect that is not really known, yet. Re: [Audyssey] STFC error
Well brian, methinks a chip debugger sounds like what you would get if you removed the chip and the de smile! seriously, sinse you had a different error message inflicted upon you, I suspect it is a different problem, and I hope you can get it fixed. Reguarding computer's personalities once my laptop decided to completely crash and shut down on me in a lexture of philosophy of mind where we were discussing the limits of artifical inteligence, and what the differences betwene computer and human inteligence were, the lecturer (who is a bit like a computer himself), had just propounded the theory that just as we don't find it particularly astounding that a mechanical digger can do a job that would take lots of people many hours of boring and back breaking labour, we shouldn't be impressed or surprised by computers and calculators that do a similar job with very repetitive and dull mental exercises like number crunching! At that point my laptop decided to throw a wobler. Makes you think doesn't it. , (kew twilight zone music). beware the Grue! [Audyssey] Here's our sign...
Thanks to dark, the STFC error problem now has a solution, and what a simple one it is. If Thomas or anyone had any of Bill Engvall's famous signs to hand out, I'm sure a lot of us would be wearing them. It seems that when you download the DirectX file and run it, you aren't exactly installing the program. You must then go to wherever you extracted the files to and run the Dxsetup executable. Then, and only then, will the program be installed. Out of desperation I tried this and, needless to say, it worked. So I'm off to boldly go where no man has gone...well you know. The point is Dark was right, so he should be the one to hand out those signs I mentioned... It ain't pretty when the pretty leaves you with no place to go. J.D. [Audyssey] STFC Errors.
Hi Bryan, I have tested the 1.0 install on two different machines locally and have not ben able to replicate your error locally. One test system had 1.1.43 and 2.0 frameworks on it and it used the 2.0 libs. The second only has net framework 2, and it ran fine. However, since you mentioned you did have the test releases did you fully uninstall the betas, and delete the patch files from the c:\program files\USA Games\Final Conflict directory? It's important that nothing remains of the betas as 1.0 is pretty incompatible with the test versions. Another thing to try is open your c:\program files\usa games\final conflict directory and try and run stfc.exe from there. I am wondering if your working dir got set properly for the icon/program launcher. I initially had this error you got when setup failed to correctly set the working directory for stfc. Bryan Peterson wrote: Hi Thomas, I just downloaded FC1.0. I have boh .net framework 2.0 and DirectX 9.0C o n my machine. However after I installed the game I found it wouldn't run. [Audyssey] STFC Errors.
Hi Robin and all, Be assured I will do all I can to figure out what is the matter, but honestly at this point I haven't a clue what the issue is. This error is new, and 1.0 hasn't been fully tested out in the wild with framework 1.1. This was one of the final builds before the accident of losing the source happened. So everyone bare with me as I pick and pry hoping to find out what is different about your systems, and mine. Unfortunately, most of the problems won't likely be resolved until I can write a patch or a full upgrade. Although, since it is working almost flawless here I am assuming it is misbehaving do to some miner incompatibility between your systems and mine. I'll likely draft up a tech support form for everyone, and if everyone fills it out I can see what error might be blowing up stfc. Robin Kipp wrote: Hi Tom, Unfortunately, the game doesn't run on my computer. Hi Dark, No need to be sorry for announcing a problem. That is what I am here for is solving and squashing the bugs. Hi Bryan, Those are a couple of good questions, and ones I am asking myself at this very moment. However, there is two major changes between the version you are trying to get working and the test releases. The first is .NET 2.0 support. The original game was designed around a 1.1.43 platform. Second, the original used MSI, Microsoft Setup Installer, and this version uses InnoSetup. Neither is exactly earth shaddering changes, but something obviously broke on your, Robin's, and Dark's computers. Bryan Peterson wrote: I wonder why it didn't show up in the testing? [Audyssey] Jit Debugger was STFC error
Hi Bryan, A JIT Debugger stands for, Just In Time debugger, which is techno lingo for a debugger that debugs the application as it is actively running. Most modern languages like C#.NET and Java use JIT debuggers which will break at some error, and allow you to debug and even compile and continue the application on the fly while it is running. Obviously, to do this you need a compiler, JIT Debugger, and the source. ___ Gamers mailing list .. [Audyssey] DirectX Versions.
Hi All, Not allot of non-developers is aware of this, but Microsoft DirectX is constantly being updated every two to three months. For example 9.0C was released to the public roughly in the summer of 2004 and at that rate of updates that means there are no less than eight to twelve different versions of MS DirectX 9.0C called 9.0C. The important catch is to know what exact build number and date of release you have installed. The common release cycle is February, April, June, suggest, October, and December. Although, it isn't always exact that is when new updates usually appear. The best way to keep up to date as I am just finding out is to go over to the Microsoft.com/directx site and grab the web update utility that will always keep you up to date, and to update as often as necessary. ___ Gamers mailing list .. Re: [Audyssey] final conflict error
Hi Casey, The error you described is likely do to an incompatible version of Microsoft DirectX as was discovered already on list. Steven's suggestion below seams to work everytime so far. Stephen wrote: go to: www.microsoft.com/directx then download the file dxwebsetup.exe, then run it. DirectX has been updated since xpsp2 was released, and the version on your machine just won't cut it Note you'll need to have a genuine copy of windows in order to download the file, and probably to install it as well. Hope this helps! btw: I can't understand why the windows update didn't pick up that my version of directX was out of date. Perhaps the updater is only for security vulnerabilities, though it doesn't speciffically say that on the webpage. ___ Gamers mailing list .. That was when I had lots of time, and, most importantly, motivation. I wanted to leave a mark in the so-called blind gaming community, because I realized something quite quickly. We had too many rated E games, games for kids rather than adults. So began my major upgrade to Treasure Hunt. There's a common misconception that I just wanted to expand the game and put more features in it, bringing it up from version three to four. The real reason was that we needed more serious action games; games which run around a storyline. So now we were in the four year round about of BPC's life. Treasure Hunt was released six months later, I believe February of 2005. Now, everyone who followed the evolution of Treasure Hunt remembers the major patch upgrades. The game was quite bug-filled, which showed me that my skills in programming actually weren't as well-planted as I had thought they were. And, of course, my beta testers were jokes, save a select few (you know who you are) So from Feburary 2005 to early 2006, I was releasing patch after patch. That was my job; it wasn't a good experience for me at all, and I quickly realized Treasure Hunt was, in itself, a failure. The game turned out to be rated E although I had hoped it wouldn't be, and some things did not work for no apparent reason. After this period of patch releasing, I arived at the first really stable version of Treasure Hunt, 4.25, and that's when I was able to turn my attention to the finances of the organization. Payments were coming in nicely the first couple months, then declined. They went back up in December of 2005, thanks to Christmas shoppers. Developers love Christmas. Finally, I saw a steady drop of purchases, In March, I made one sale, April was zero, and May was around that number. But then came a further change, and it was not a pleasant one. someone actually filed a charge back against me. Can you believe the morality of this person? I won't name them, but they will know who they are when they read this. This individual had bought a copy of the game from me, and then turned around and claimed that I made an unauthorized purchase to their credit card. Not only did Pay Pal refund their money, they also gave them $10.00 extra. This leech was paid $10.00 for buying my game! I had given them the registration key and everything, I saw no fault with the order. They got what they paid for. Now, Consider all of what I have said. I did consider everything, and I'll briefly recap. Treasure Hunt was a rated E game when it wasn't supposed to be; someone accused me of credit card fraud, something which degraded my reputation greatly; there was no more money being made; I lost my motivation; and, finally, I hated all those 13-year-olds trying to make games.

Oh great. wonder if this is why I've been having problems with some other games? Ok. does anyone know where I can obtain the latest version of direct X? Also what happens if I have already installed direct X, and try installing over it? I'm not even sure if I have it installed correctly. - For an amazing video gaming site containing original soundtracks, game art, etc, go here. http://gh.ffshrine.org?r=16426 - Original Message - From: Bryan Peterson [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Monday, December 04, 2006 9:23 PM Subject: [Audyssey] Here's our sign... Re: [Audyssey] STFC Errors.
No no. the game's running fine for me, I was just telling folks on here that I've had that problem with rail racer. It seems to happen randomly though, and only when I run the game from the shortcuts. it happens more often from the start menu shortcut than the desktop, which does not make any sence. - For an amazing video gaming site containing original soundtracks, game art, etc, go here. http://gh.ffshrine.org?r=16426 - Original Message - From: Thomas Ward [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Monday, December 04, 2006 10:44 PM Subject: [Audyssey] STFC Errors. Hi Yohandy, That is interesting. I have never gotten that error with either STFC or Rail Racer. This seams to be a .NET thing, and likely do to something out of sink. Interesting thing is that I wasn't having this error at all until I switched to InnoSetup which is the same setup/installer Che is using for Rail Racer. The main thing I need to know is if it runs when you manually launch stfc.exe from the installation directory. Yohandy wrote: well the strange thing is I get the same error when starting rail racer. I sometimes get it, and sometimes not. it's totally weird, and noone can figure it out. ___ Gamers mailing list .. Re: [Audyssey] STFC Podcast
Aaaah Brian, you've pre-empted me on this on (and I was looking forward to doing my next gen impressions ;D). Seriously, I'm looking forward to the pod cast, particularly because I probably need some stratogy tips, sinse I'm rather bad (and this goes for Trek 2000 as well), at attacking the enemy ships before they attack one of mine first, the only way I've ever won with trek 2000 is by grouping all my ships in a big clump, and hoping to wether what the badguys throw at me and use the multiple ships to dish out lots of damage, but obviously, there are situations where this doesn't work. I'd say look for it on Blind Cool Tech sometime over the next few days. I just sent it off to them tonight so it'll be at least two days I would think.
