I have yet to find a solution for this issue and I've been looking in hundreds of forums. This greatly annoys me since I was planning on recording mk and sfiv reviews amung other things. I'd appreciate if anyone could answer the following questions: first, is there a fix for this issue I'm having? is it my soundcard acting up, or is it Vista itself? I've heard many rumors that vista doesn't support line-in and that it also lacks the ability to record both microphone output and stereo mix, so I'd like confirmation from people using other cards with vista. and second, do you guys know if this card supports surround sound? Thomas, I know you said the headphones have 3 jacks you c an plug into the card. only problem here is I only have a headphone jack, and another jack to the left which I presume is for the microphone. I'm using an internal mic so not sure about this, and the only time I tried plugging a microphone in there, the person I was talking to heard this loud annoying sound. This is a toshiba laptop btw. If Vista's the culprit, then I'll most likely uninstall it since all these audio problems are really getting on my nerves, not to mention the ftp issue I've been having which I mentioned on here months ago. still haven't managed to fix that either *grin*. so any help at all you guys can provide would be much appreciated as this computer's driving me insane. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Hello Gary, Yes, there is a much easier way to handle your graphics problem. It is in the Jaws configuration manager. Assuming tyou wanted this to be global you would press Jaws key+j, alt+u for the utilities pull down menu, select configuration manager, and with default.jcf open press alt+s for the settings menu. Arrow to graphics and symbols. Press enter on graphics and symbols and tab to the raidio button for graphics verbosity. The default is set to all. Change it to labeled or none to turn off the announcement of unrecognized graphics. i recommend labeld here. Tab to ok, and do control+s to save the default.jcf. Alternatively if you want the change to effedct only the game while int he game press jaws key+6 and follow the steps above. [Audyssey] entombed question
Hi. I probably sound like I'm complaining in this message. I'm not, however, just fyi. here goes. When playing entombed I keep running into monsters that are just pretty much impossible to kill. I ran into one called some kind of guardian at the end of level two in my dungeon once and I couldn't hit him at all, even though I had flurry trained to 5 and swords trained to 4, and he killed me in like the second round even though I was wearing a lot of metal eq. I had another group member too, a level 4 fightter who was almost as good, and he got that one too, as well as my pet. I kepted the same dungeon and tried to beat that monster three times with different configurations. I never got him past injured. I'm not sure what i'm supposed to do. How come I can't level past 6? I can't train very well because there's no way to get skill points. That, and like someone else mentioned, I did cut off my hand instead of hitting escape once. Another time I hit escape and it backed me entirely out of a menu and put me in the options menu and I hit load game before I was able to stop, made me lose that game. Would it be possible to ask if I were sure I wanted to lose the current game before loading a new one? Cheers! Re: [Audyssey] SGC2909 review?
Charles, I couldn't find you a review from the magazine, but I did pull something out of the archives that may be of interest. It is pasted below my signature. Ryan Our economy is in terrible shape, our reputation worldwide is in shambles, and even so, we continue to be divided by partisan politics. Put down your torches and your pitchforks Limbaugh, Coulter, Hannity, Franken, and o'reilly, and put aside your slogans you followers. I, for one, want to work on our country and her people. God bless America. --Concerned Citizen Hi To all, from Ron and Boz. I finally got a chance to pick up the Phillips hand held game controller model sgc2909. The controller looks like this. With the unit facing you. You have the cable plugged into your usb connecter and it is on the top of the unit. There are two flat buttons to the left of the cable one button to the back and there is one directly under that button. Then across the top of the controller to the right of the cable on the right hand edge of the unit are two more buttons and they're located just like the two buttons on the left side of the connection cable. One button above another button. Maybe DJC AKA Don can tell us what these four buttons are and what their functions are. Now looking at the face of the unit. The best way to describe the unit is that we have a left column of buttons, a center column of buttons and a last column of buttons on the far right hand side. Lets take the far left buttons first. These four buttons are your basic four directional buttons. They're triangle shaped buttons. You have your up arrow, which is at the top. Diagonally from this button about three o'clock is the right arrow button, then at the six o'clock is the down arrow button, then at the nine o'clock is the left arrow button. Now we come to the center. You'll feel a slight bubble, this is the visual display. Just to the left is the escape key and to the right of the display is the enter key. Now if you find the display bubble as your center,Just below the display is a group of four buttons in a diamond like shape. The top button is just under the display . This button is the digital analog mode button. I don't think we'll want to play with this button to much. I could be wrong on this since I'm still learning the unit myself. But if you keep coming down from that button you'll see nothing then if you go down a little further, you'll run into another button. This button is the game mouse button. If you get back in between these two buttons, you'll see a button to your left and a button to your right. This makes up the diamond shape of these four buttons. Maybe DJC could refresh my memory on these buttons once again. This takes care of the center column of buttons. Now we come to the far right hand side of the unit. We run into another diamond shape of four buttons once again. But these buttons are round in shape. Now I don't know what these buttons are either. But for an example for puppy one. I have the three o'clock button as my view button and my nine o'clock button as my fire button. This was the only thing I had to do so that Puppy one would work with the flight controller. The one main thing I have to remember is that the two round knobs at the bottom are your joysticks and they are very very touchy. They don't take much to go in the direction that you want to fly in. So for Puppy one, it is real easily to fly past the enemy planes and then you get shot down. GRIN. I did manage to shoot down 67 enemy planes down on the experience level though. So I do have one game under my belt thus far. I now have to work with out back, blast chamber, troopanum, hunter and the new three d velocity flying game. I'll keep everyone up to date on my opinion on this hand controller. But so far I kind of like it. But so far with just puppy one. I like it. So this is my opinion of the flight controller for now. Ron who finally broke away from the keyboard. Re: [Audyssey] entombed question
Aaron, I'll break this up into chunks. I kepted the same dungeon and tried to beat that monster three times with different configurations. I never got him past injured. I'm not sure what i'm supposed to do. Keep in mind that the guardian is made of rock, so going after him with a sword is not going to do much damage to him. What sort of weapon do you think would have a better chance of damaging stone? Stone is certainly hard to slice, but it's not as difficult to ... what? Also, the shrink spell is a great one for lowering the damage done by natural weapons. Try those. How come I can't level past 6? Because you're playing a concept demo right now that's in early alpha stages. Eventually you will be able to, but at present you can't. This will be fixed in later releases. I can't train very well because there's no way to get skill points. The only way is through leveling, and your six levels and corresponding skill points should be enough to conquer the dungeon. That, and like someone else mentioned, I did cut off my hand instead of hitting escape once. You're thinking of the tilde key. It's a testing key that he put in for himself and never took it out. It won't be in in the full release. Try not to press it. I hope this helps. Re: [Audyssey] entombed question
Hi Aaron, I did manage to kill the basalt guardian twice out of a solid dozen tries. I had the same thing you had, the beefed up fighter with max flurry and I a three in swords. It was a slaughter. He attacked twice, knocked me off my feet, and then beat my guy like a red headed step child. So I figure my problem is armor. I got five in plate armor and covered every inch with plate and again a three in swords. My thought was that if my fighter could at least take the hits, I could get some spells in to help like grow, or shrink. However, the thing knocked me down right away and beat the stuffing out of my fighter. The damage was only marginally less. It went from eight points minimum of damage to about five and six. So in reality, the fighter was next to useless. I tried a mage who I pumped to the max lightning bolts and those only did three damage at the most, and the damage was never in the same place, but always seemed to hit a leg or arm. I have yet to get a thief to stay alive to even get to the third level, and really so far, the only character that helped in that battle was a healer (It is ironic, isn't it). The pumped up harm spell to it's max did some real decent damage, and while the guardian killed my fighter and my pet, I did finally manage to kill it with the harm spell. The trick is to not worry about getting back up if you have been knocked down. There is just no time to waste doing that. I have never tried to bump my skill in a bludgeon type weapon like a club, mostly because I am not sure which club has the most damage potential. al --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Ok... I can bust out the windows laptop fi need be. I can use FTP or teamtalk, but since ventrilo is benig ported to linux (and a mac port already exists - apparently it's accessible) it might be a better plan. I think all ports of vent support positional audio too (I'm pretty sure the windows one does), but it's a pretty unessential feature as far as I am concerned. Anyway I can dust off the laptop if people want to meet up (but not sure if I'd come any old time - talking on list is usually good enough for me to tell the truth). It might be fun to try out. [Audyssey] entomb things
Hi, I wanted to list a few things I noticed aboutthis awesome game. 1. When spellcasters get zombified, they retain their spell casting ability. Is this intentional? 2. In one battle, an orc mage grabbed an iron breastplate and put it on. Since I know mages can't wear plate armor, this could either be a glitch, or a unique property of being an orc. 3. Some skills are not really defined very well. For instance, the tell fortune skill does not seem to have any value whatsoever. What exactly does it do? 4. The reason I thought copper was better then bronze in the game was that copper weapons are a dime a dozen, I picked up dozens of them in the first two levels, but the bronze items were much rarer. 5. can a thief, alone in a battle, use hide? When I had a thief who was alone, I attempted to hide but the enemy targeted on me and hit me as if I never hid. On the other hand, when an enemy thief is alone, they get to hide, and then attack in the same round. 6. Are other weapons and armor going to be introduced into the game? For example shields, bracers and arm/leg greaves. Some weapons might be the mace, flail, morning star, axes of all sorts, spears etc and so forth. thanks, al --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. [Audyssey] PS2 question
Hi all I'm not actually sure if anyone here knows but thought I would ask anyway. I've recently borrowed my Nephew's PS2 console and about 24 games. What I'm wondering is can anyone answer a couple questions. First what are the various controls spacifically. What the it's labeled as I mean. I know triangle, circle, but what ones are they. I was told but don't quite recall now. Secondly I'm finding it hard to get games going. So is the main game menu easy enough to say go down one selection then hit enter? [Wherever that button is.] Hope this makes some sense and that there might be help here. Off list is okay as well. Re: [Audyssey] entomb things
Hi Al, I'll answer your questions without spoiling anything if I can. 1. Zombie casters (or any other job) retain their skills. This is intentional. I think it keeps zombies interesting. A zombie of a heroic fighter will be completely different from a mage. One thing that is unintended is zombie healers healing themselves. Any kind of normal healing should be impossible. 2. The monster artificial intelligence doesn't consider skills at the moment when picking up items. So they can cheat a little and use things on the ground even if they don't have the skill. 3. The fortune teller skill is ambiguous by design. There is nothing concrete about fortune telling. I think you'll be able to see clearly what it does if you raise it a few points and try the fortune teller's attack ability. It also affects other things related to fortune telling, but I don't want to get into a habit of explaining too much. It might take some mystery out of the game. 4. Bronze weapons are rarer because they require more skill to make. Currently only human and orc craftsman can make bronze weapons. 5. Thieves can try to hide if they're alone, but enemies can still attack them. That's by design. So if you have fast character, you might be able to hide and get a sneak attack in before the enemy gets their turn but it's very risky. 6. I've just completed ranged weapons and ammunition for the next build. There will be more weapon choices. I have to keep the number down initially until I'm positive everything works correctly. Once I'm to the content phase of development, there will be a Cambrian explosion of new armor and weapons. Everything you mentioned is supported in the engine and more. Thanks! I'm glad you like the game! Jason On Fri, Mar 13, 2009 at 6:23 AM, Allan Thompson allan1.thomp...@cox.netwrote: Hi, I wanted to list a few things I noticed aboutthis awesome game. 1. Re: [Audyssey] Chat Rooms was Game Chat Reminder
Hi I'm interested as it was alot of fun in the earlier days. However I know Thursdays we've been somewhat replaced by actual games. However these are fun most times too. 9:00 p.m. EST is when they happen there are a few different ones and it's not a bad time. As for gaming chat it's always seemed to be big during the first few months then die out eventually. This teamtalk I know nothing about but if it's a viable option then it's worth considering. We could always reclaim the games room though as well. Hi. Clubs don't hurt him either. They always seem to miss or do no damage at all. I hit him with apoison staff once and it didn't seem to do anything. I use connecsant AC 97 audio. Some people say it sucks. I've yet to have a problem with it. The realtech card on my netbook is ok. Its hd too, but the stario mix/microphone seriously sucks. The stario mix, mind you, can have its volume controlled, unlike this here hp. Problem is, the microphone volume is so low, even at 100 percent, while stario mix is on, its not even funny. Lastly, there is no microphone boost option, which greatly annoys me, unlike on this hp. My desktop is a hole other story. Forcing me to use gold wave to adjust audio properties, since the recording volume just has a bunch of mute checkboxes, and I can't be sure what I'm selecting. It also has no volume sliders that I can see. This is another realtech hd card, I think its an alc662 or something like that. I absolutely love soundblaster live cards. The best out of the bunch, in my oppinion. Stario mix rocks, line in rocks, it can do microphone and stario mix together, etc. Its rather old, and I don't know if you can find one for a laptop. Hi, That is because my review hasn't been printed in the Audessey Magazine yet. Let me see if I can find my copy of the review and update it with a couple of miner edditions as mine is far more detailed than than the one you posted here. Rob leaves a lot of details out that I include in my review such as I explain where each button is and what it does etc. Rob wasn't very sure of his unit at the time and so he doesn't give a very complete review. Re: [Audyssey] PS2 question
I think the controller is like this. On the left side of the controller is the diamond shape of four buttons. These are like a joystick or gamepad up is up down is down etc. On top of the controller is four buttons called shoulder buttons. The ones on the left are L1 (closest to you) and L2. Likewise on the right is R1 and R2. The two center buttons are pause on the left, and start on the right. The action buttons on the right side are also in a diamond configuration. I am not a hundred percent sure, but I think the X button is the one at the bottom of the diamond, and the O button is on the top of the diamond. I am not sure about the square and triangle buttons. Re: [Audyssey] Surround Sound HeadPhones and soundcard issues was a thought about MOTA
Cory, What do you mean your card goes crazy? Does it do what mine is currently doing, or is it something else? What I'm basically trying to figure out is 1. why can't I use line-in 2. why can't I enable stereo mix and microphone. it's either one or the other 3. is this a soundcard issue, or a vista limitation? This could be getting a bit OT. if so I apologize. Thing is, if I can't get this card working, then I can't record game samples and reviews which is the reason I wanna fix this issue once and for all. I wanted to do cool things like record the MK combo challenges as well as include the text file so you guys could get the trophies, but I can't. You guys have no idea how frustrated I am at the moment. I never had these issues with my XP machine, and I can't find solutions anywhere. - Original Message - From: Cory Kadlik ckadl...@verizon.net To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Thursday, March 12, 2009 7:54 AM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Surround Sound HeadPhones and soundcard issues was a thought about MOTA I agree. Re: [Audyssey] Surround Sound HeadPhones and soundcard issues was a thought about MOTA
Hi Yohandy, Yohandy Asked: first, is there a fix for this issue I'm having? is it my soundcard acting up, or is it Vista itself? Tom Says: Well, you aren't the first person who has had issues with that specific brand and model of sound card. I've basically heard those sound cards are trouble no matter if you are using XP, Vista, or Windows 7. i don't have one myself, but the word is those sound cards have technical issues. My best educated guess is it is your sound card not Vista. Yohandy Said: I've heard many rumors that vista doesn't support line-in and that it also lacks the ability to record both microphone output and stereo mix, so I'd like confirmation from people using other cards with vista. Tom Says: Well, it does and it doesn't. It really depends on what sound card you have, if the Vista drivers supports those features, and if you enable those mixer settings in the control panel. I can say first hand it is a serious pain to get working under Vista, because it isn't as easy to get setup as it was under XP. I'm unhappy to say it is just as bad with Windows 7 Beta. However, I can confirm the stereo mix still works under Vista with the right sound card. it does work if your sound card supports it, and if you get Vista setup correctly. As i said before it isn't as easy to get correctly setup as XP. Yohandy Asked: and second, do you guys know if this card supports surround sound? Thomas, I know you said the headphones have 3 jacks you can plug into the card. only problem here is I only have a headphone jack, and another jack to the left which I presume is for the microphone. I'm using an internal mic. Tom Says: Well, since i don't know the specific model, serial number, etc of your card I can't look it up and give you an absolute answer. However, what I can tell you is that it does not have the correct outputs to do anything remotely like surround sound using headphones or a set of 5.1 surround sound speakers. So I'm guessing no. The desktop I am sitting at now has a creative Labs Soundblaster Audegy 2 card installed. It has a mic jack, a line-in jack, and then three output jacks. They are labeled front, center, and rear. If I am using a set of 5.1 surround sound speakers or headphones I plug the three headphone inputs into these three jacks on the sound card. I doubt plugging only one input into a headphone jack would reproduce a full 5.1 surround sound effect. Yohandy Said: btw. If Vista's the culprit, then I'll most likely uninstall it since all these audio problems are really getting on my nerves. Tom Says: Well, all i can say is I have been running Vista successfully since March 2007 and I really haven't had much problems with the OS myself audio or otherwise. I've recorded the Mysteries of the Ancients game trailers using a Windos Vista system so I know for certain I can record using stereo mix obviously. However, I can say I've got stereo mix working on my desktop, the computer with the Audegy card, but it won't work on my laptop which has a Realtek AC-97 card in it. So it is the sound card not Vista being the problem there. HTH --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Hi Jason, Thanks for answering these things. It all sounds really great. I was curious. Is there any plan at some future date that players might have the ability to create a customizable adventure? Put in the magical bell hammer of sounding, label certain rooms along the way as a bedroom, storeroom, etc and so forth. It was just a thought. Hi Daniel, Since this is only a test release and it is a restricted demo the other game levels are not available yet. We will begin adding new levels to the game in the next week or two, but they will require a license key to unlock and play. We don't have a date when the game will go on sale yet, but we think that might be sometime around May or June at the speed we are developing the game. Re: [Audyssey] Help with Jaws and Dos game
Yeah, I know that Tom. What I was looking for is when running a dos program Jaws picks up graphical symbols. Jaws translates like border lines framing the window with what Jaws as: Symbol,Symbol, Symbol, etch And for corners Jaws closest translation may be +. Not Graphics that Jaws sees as graphics with numbers being part of its name as in: Graphic 229. So its looks I am back to telling each character graphic like symbol and plus and others like the smile face and frowning face to be read as a space. Thanks anyway tom. Hi Thomas, It would be very very cool if you allowed Angela to throw things. She has a gun without any bullets, in desperation you hold control and space and the weapon flies through the air and clunks off the creature. But wait, she has a torch, and she throws that at the creature and it dies! The burning creature lights up the room but quickly goes out and Angela is left in the dark with no torches left. She feels along the ground with the enter key and finds her thrown pistol and picks it up. In short she should be able to throw anything in her inventory or in her hands. Of course the knife and sword thrown would also do the same damage as they would if used in hand to hand combat. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Phil: Is that Sarah of Hogwarts in the summer getting to you or something? (grin) Actually, this is a good one of those Phil's funnies for Ron's next issue. - - - A taxpayer voting for a Democrat is like a chicken voting for Colonel Sanders! - Original Message - From: Phil Vlasak p...@pcsgames.net To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Thursday, March 12, 2009 6:25 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] MOTA Beta 3 Released Hi Thomas, It would be very very cool if you allowed Angela to throw things. [Audyssey] A Review Of Mysteries Of The Ancients
This is Wil, station owner and program director of Living On The Edge Radio. One of my broadcasters, Cranking Chris Reagan asked me to send you guys this message. Hello there everyone: If you don't have plans for this Friday evening, why don't you log on to your computers and listen to the rock 'n' roll music mix. This week's show brings back an old feature that I had brought into play in 2006. Yes, the blind gamers review is back and it's not a podcast anymore. It's now coming back to life and this weeks game for review is the game misteries of the ancient's. Of course, as always your requests are more than welcome to stu...@livingontheedgerradio.com for email and msn and for aim, it's loteradio. Plus, my significant other and assistant will be on aim and she may say something if she wants too. You just never know what's going to happen on the rock 'n' roll music mix. So if you've got nothing better to do on a friday, point your browser to www.livingontheedgeradio.com and click on your listen live link of choice. Let's have some fun and please don't forget, this show is yours, so if you don't like what you're hearing, you can speak up. Enjoy Cranking Chris Reagan There is such a thing as Real Rock.
