Re: [Audyssey] Vip mud sapi problem

2009-05-28 Thread dark

Hi.

With some help of Cx2 of the audeasy forum, I did attempt to add a trigger
to read health, - but it just plane doesn't work.

I typed * into the trigger box, and # %0 say voiceonly into the commands
box.

I got no error messages after okaying the command, and then I pressed
done, - but it made absolutely no visible difference at all, and frankly
I'm not sure what I did wrong.

I must admit, this is mildly frustrating me at the moment, - especially
sinse apparently the issue doesn't exist with Jaws only with Sapi, and Vip
mud doesn't output speech directly to Hal.

Has anyone got any further thoughts?

hi dark,
You can create a trigger for this that will process this line and either
automatically read it to you when it is updated, or allow you to hit a key
to get the info, such as f5 or whatever.
VIPMud is pretty easy regarding coding these things, and the
documentation walks you through how to do it.
Ryan and I have done a lot of odifications to the scripts for Lusternia,
and it makes playing any mud way more enjoyable.

 good luck,

Subject: [Audyssey] Vip mud sapi problem

Hi.

I was wondering if someone could please help with this, I've asked
everywhere else, including on the vip mud list and with a direct
E-mail to david greenwood, but haven't got any replies as yet.

Using sapi in materia magica everything is okay accept for one thing.
When reading the screen with up and down arrows, Sapi refuses to read the
status line showing hp, mp and st (staminer).

You can read it with left and right arrows, - and the line is
deffinately there sinse I've checked it using Hal, it's just that when
reading in coming text, the line doesn't get read - which keeps
getting me killed in battles sinse I don't know how damaged I'm getting.

It does get read in safe areas where the word safe appears at the
start, which makes me think it's something to do with the line being
surrounded with a less than and greater than sign.

Any advice would be much appreciated sinse this is rather frustrating.

For a direct comparison here's a cut and paste of the line, - though
obviously the values vary (I used Hal).

97hp 94sp 164st

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hi Valiant,

I will put the option in so that you can choose between the crowd sound or the
wind sound, but personally I can not understand how it is going to make a
difference as it is the exact same thing, only a different sound. You know as
you get closer to the wall the crowd or wind sound gets louder. That's it.
The other sounds that let you know how far along you are in the straightaway or

Yes, all other games play ok in stereo, including Thomas's MOTA game, GMA Tank

sound buffersinstead of hardware and that solved almost all of my problems with

have turned down the sounds volume quite a lot. But everything goes down with
it. I noticed that the sounds you get for when it's time to turn etc are to the
left or right like you said they would be. They're not like that for me. When I
actually manage to hear one it's dead center in my stereo field. Hmm. Maybe if
I play around with hardware accelleration for my sound card.

Hi Che.

sinse that line reads fine with JAws and not with Sapi, I would actually
class it as a bug, I'm only using scripting because it won't
automatically read.

I've tried the command with what I believe to be the correct syntax in the
trigger dialogue, - as I detailed, but either I did something wrong, or
there is something more intrinsic to why sSapi won't read a line written in
betwene less than greater than prompts.

I'm really not sure sinse as I said, apparently it reads fine with other
speech methods.

Games we'd like to play,
Kitchen Sink,
by Phil Vlasak
In this fast action game, you Are Jim, a daring dish washer,
willing to risk everything to clean his sink of dirty dishes.
His mission will not be an easy one. He must face several disgusting items,
such as plates covered with week old Pizza slices, burnt oatmeal bowls, and
skillets with baked on hamburger grease.
He must avoid such deadly traps as pots of boiling donut oil, towering stove

fires, sharp metal corn on the cob spikes, deep crud lined coffee pots, and

containers filled with rotten chicken livers.

He will have to pick up each dirty dish, then using the left and right
control keys, scrub it with a steel wool pad,
then rinse it under water and stack each neatly in the drainer.
He will also discover dropped egg shells and coffee grounds, and putrid egg
salad sandwiches left behind the couch by previous guests.
If Jim makes it through the whole stack of dishes,
he must face his greatest challenge.
Washing his stack of dirty clothes by hand.

[Audyssey] Sapi issue

2009-05-28 Thread dark
Okay.

After a litle comparison with a friend of mine, also running xp he found
that vip mud also running sapi and scansoft daniel would! read the status line
in materia magica.

i confirmed this by writing a text file, and opening it in Jim kitchin's reader
program, and low and behold, Silent Sapi!

So obviously my version of sapi is refusing to read things written betwene less
than and greater than prompts.

If this was Hal, i'd just alter the punctuation level, but I've no idea
what to do with Sapi.

The only thing I could think of to try was Jim Kitchin's deluserlex.exe
program, but that doesn't help.

would anyone know how to fix this?

Other than installing Mike, mary, scansoft daniel and text allowd, I haven't
done anything to Sapi itself, but I know these things can frequently alter
of their own accord.

Any advice would be hugely appreciated, sinse I very much want to continue on
with materia magica.

Beware the Grue!

Dark.

Hi Valiant,

I am sorry, but I don't know what to say. I have not heard of anyone else
having the problem of my games coming out in mono rather than stereo panning.
Mono sure would make them sound different and much harder to try to play.

Again, I'm sorry, but I really don't know what to say.

While news has been slow in coming, we're still working hard to

taking so long.

We've not been idle here. In addition to the future titles, Draconis
has decided to change things just a little bit. Here are some
particular items of note.

1. We don't want to do a development blog, like many have
suggested. For one thing, it reveals too much of what we're working
on, something that we have a longstanding policy of not doing. But
we do understand how nice it would be for gamers to know how things
are progressing. To that end, we've decided that we will keep
gamers informed on the day-to-day happenings at Draconis to some
extent. Don't expect the top secret details, but do expect to have a
better idea of what is being worked on. Draconis has opened a
Twitter profile and account that gamers can follow to find out a
little about what's happening behind the scenes at Draconis. Follow
us, and see our Twitter page at http://twitter.com/DracoEnt

2. We are currently building an automated key generation system.
This means that, when you purchase our games, you will receive your
registration for the game immediately. No more human processing will
be required. The new system will be employed for all existing and
future titles. This will dramatically change how we do things, as
we'll be able to spend far more time on development, and less time
on processing orders.

3. We've expanded our offerings to include music. We're proud to
bring you a new band called Stage 19. Consisting of two blind
musicians, Molly McClenahan and Josh de Lioncourt, Stage 19 is
celebrating its first release. It's an EP entitled Opening Act,
and is available on iTunes, Amazon MP3, and other digital music
shops under the Draconis Entertainment label. Incidentally, one of
the tracks on the EP is the instrumental piece that serves as part
of the Draconis audio logo. The band site is http://stage19music.com

4. We have two developers working on the new titles. Silver Dollar
is nearing completion and will be a free offering for both Mac and
Windows users.

Thanks for your continued support. The best years are still ahead of
us. In the end, it'll be worth the wait. Thanks for sticking with us.

Re: [Audyssey] Draconis Entertainment News

2009-05-28 Thread Draconis Entertainment

Will,

We hope to have at least one other title out before the end of the
year, but no promises. We're trying to lay the foundation for more
frequent releases by developing robust frameworks, engines, and
automated much of the manual labor that is involved in the development
and maintenance of Draconis Entertainment. It's been a long, long
road, and we've been working on other projects as well besides
strictly games...but we do hope to release them more frequently soon.

so long.

We've not been idle here. In addition to the future titles, Draconis
has decided to change things just a little bit. Here are some
particular items of note.

1. We don't want to do a development blog, like many have suggested.
For one thing, it reveals too much of what we're working on, something
that we have a longstanding policy of not doing. But we do understand
how nice it would be for gamers to know how things are progressing.
To that end, we've decided that we will keep gamers informed on the
day-to-day happenings at Draconis to some extent. Don't expect the top
secret details, but do expect to have a better idea of what is being
worked on. Draconis has opened a Twitter profile and account that
gamers can follow to find out a little about what's happening behind
the scenes at Draconis. Follow us, and see our Twitter page at
http://twitter.com/DracoEnt

2. We are currently building an automated key generation system. This
means that, when you purchase our games, you will receive your
registration for the game immediately. No more human processing will
be required. The new system will be employed for all existing and
future titles. This will dramatically change how we do things, as
we'll be able to spend far more time on development, and less time on
processing orders.

3. We've expanded our offerings to include music. We're proud to bring
you a new band called Stage 19. Consisting of two blind musicians,
Molly McClenahan and Josh de Lioncourt, Stage 19 is celebrating its
first release. It's an EP entitled Opening Act, and is available on
iTunes, Amazon MP3, and other digital music shops under the Draconis
Entertainment label. Incidentally, one of the tracks on the EP is the
instrumental piece that serves as part of the Draconis audio logo. The
band site is http://stage19music.com

4. We have two developers working on the new titles. Silver Dollar is
nearing completion and will be a free offering for both Mac and
Windows users.

Thanks for your continued support. The best years are still ahead of
us. In the end, it'll be worth the wait. Thanks for sticking with us.

[Audyssey] pocket tads

2009-05-28 Thread Ken
Well, I figured out how to fix the issues people have been having with Pocket
Tads with the pac mate. It was pure luck--it has to do with font size--use
tahoma with the size set to 8, no fixed pitch, buffered. You'll set this up
under normal and find that there is only one space between words rather than
two. All the text will fit on the screen--no scrolling needed.

Hi.
I listened to the recordings you made, and mine sounds way different than
that. My croud sound is a lot louder and I really can't hear my engine
sound. I have turned down the sounds volume quite a lot. But everything
goes down with it. I noticed that the sounds you get for when it's time to
turn etc are to the left or right like you said they would be. They're not
like that for me. When I actually manage to hear one it's dead center in
my stereo field. Hmm. Maybe if I play around with hardware accelleration
for my sound card.

a setting set to mono somewhere because my games definitely pan and some
play stereo sound files. The sapi5 voices are mono though. You could

2009-05-28 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi Dark,
That's not necessarily a bug. Comparing a screen reader to a software
speech system like Sapi isn't really a good comparison in this instance.
While text to speech systems like Sapi have there own dictionaries that
tells the synth how to say various words, numbers, and punctuation
marks, etc any third-party software such as a screen reader can over
ride the voice's built in speech dictionary. For example, in Jaws you
can configure it to say numbers as whole numbers, single digits, or in
pares. So a string of numbers like 1, 9, 8, 6 can be spoken as 1,986, 19
86, or 1 9 8 6. That's a simple case where the screen reader overrides
whatever the text to speech voice would ordinarily say given the same
number in another application.
Bottom line, just becauseJaws says something correctly it doesn't mean
the Sapi voice or application using Sapi is buggy. It is more likely
that Jaws, Window Eyes, Hal, etc has performed some extra speech
processing behind the scenes and is more accurate.

could have an accessible dictionary for people to use. That's just me
though.

So basically your saying when jfw or window eyes is installed it does some
behind the scenes work on the sapi default dictionary? Or you mean using
the sapi voices in conjunction with jfw?

thanks

Hi Dark,
That's not necessarily a bug. Comparing a screen reader to a software
speech system like Sapi isn't really a good comparison in this instance.
While text to speech systems like Sapi have there own dictionaries that
tells the synth how to say various words, numbers, and punctuation marks,
etc any third-party software such as a screen reader can over ride the
voice's built in speech dictionary. For example, in Jaws you can
configure it to say numbers as whole numbers, single digits, or in pares.
So a string of numbers like 1, 9, 8, 6 can be spoken as 1,986, 19 86, or
1 9 8 6. That's a simple case where the screen reader overrides whatever
the text to speech voice would ordinarily say given the same number in
another application.
Bottom line, just becauseJaws says something correctly it doesn't mean
the Sapi voice or application using Sapi is buggy. It is more likely that
Jaws, Window Eyes, Hal, etc has performed some extra speech processing
behind the scenes and is more accurate.

Smile.

Re: [Audyssey] Vip mud sapi problem

2009-05-28 Thread dark

Hi Tom.

While I certainly understand what you mean, afterall that's why I use
Hal with orphius and not sapi (and even if I did, I'd muck about with
pronunciation and verbosity with Hal), when I described it as a bug, i meant
that it is a flaw in the vip mud program when outputing to sapi which does
not exist when using it with screen reader support.

Sinse the program is billed as allowing the user to play muds with
sapi, and this issue makes that not possible (due to unexpected death
through not knowing character status), it is therefore at the least, a
serious issue in program support.

For obvious reasons I'd have not bought the program if it only supported
window eyes and jaws.

but before we go too far down the I wan my money back road, - or
indeed anything near that very nasty pathway, as i said to Che, it seems
this is a more individualized sapi problem which I am having, sinse I was
able to do a test by having a friend also use vip mud, scansoft daniel and
materia magica, - and found that the text there read without a
hitch, - and in fact after a second experiment, it seems the same
problem occurs in medievia which displays it's text in the same format.

I coppied that text into a text file and then tried reading it with Jim
kitchin's text file reader - which obviously uses sapi, and again, it
wouldn't read.

so, the cause of the problem isn't vip mud or materia magica, - or even
sansoft daniel, it's sapi!

the problem is i've no idea where to go from here, sinse (as you rightly
pointed out), sapi has no verbosity controls or similar abilities for the
user to mess with how it speaks certain things.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Beware the Grue!

Dark.

Games we'd like to play,
Kitchen Sink,
by Phil Vlasak
In this fast action game, you Are Jim, a daring dish washer,
willing to risk everything to clean his sink of dirty dishes.
His mission will not be an easy one. He must face several disgusting
items,
such as plates covered with week old Pizza slices, burnt oatmeal bowls,
and skillets with baked on hamburger grease.
He must avoid such deadly traps as pots of boiling donut oil, towering
stove fires, sharp metal corn on the cob spikes, deep crud lined coffee
pots, and containers filled with rotten chicken livers.

He will have to pick up each dirty dish, then using the left and right
control keys, scrub it with a steel wool pad,

then rinse it under water and stack each neatly in the drainer.
He will also discover dropped egg shells and coffee grounds, and putrid
egg salad sandwiches left behind the couch by previous guests.

If Jim makes it through the whole stack of dishes,
he must face his greatest challenge.
Washing his stack of dirty clothes by hand.
