It will be a while before I can actually support Mac OS X. The main reason is I personally own a couple of systems running Windows and a PC running Ubuntu Linux on it, but don't personally own a Mac myself. I have plans to purchase a MacBook when my finances will allow it, but until that time comes suppporting Mac OS X directly won't be possible. Though, it is on mmy list of things to do. Still you do have a couple of options. You can run Windows via Boot Camp for my games, or it may eventually be possible to run them through an emulator like Cross Over for Mac. Hi Shaun, Oh, really? How exactly do the Netbooks handle the differences between Macintosh and Netbook keyboard layouts. The Mac computersI've seen have a different keyboard layout from Windows PCS. For example you have a comand key where a Windows keyboard has a Windows key. Instead of an alt key they have an options key. I don't know for certain if an options key returns the same scan code as an alt key or not. As for a the command key I suppose you could use the fn key on the Netbook the same as on a Macbook as an alternative command key. For example, hold down the fn key and f5 to launch VoiceOver. Hi Mike, If you are talking about the new Genesis Engine being written in C++ it should run on 64 byt platforms just fine. Currently it is being compiled as a 32 byt application for x86 processors, and x64 processors should run games that use it with no problems. That is one of the reasons I am dropping support for .NET. The reason STFC and Mysteries of the Ancients won't run on Vista 64 is because I need to recompile the game specifying an x86 platform. Well, thanks to Microsoft the Express version of Visual C# will not let me do that. It defaults to Any Platform which means if you envoke it on a 64 byt .NET framework it will load as a 64 byt application, but the DirectX libraries are compiled for x86 processors. Instant crash. So the application and the libraries it supports have to be specifically compiled with the same target platform in mind. That's something I hope to correct when I can. Smile. Hi Charles, Actually, I have several other reasons to purchase a Mac besides porting my games to Mac. Believe it or not like Josh, Will, Cara, and others on this list who own Macintosh computers I have been converted. I got a chanse to use my brother-in-law's Mac last summmer, and I fell in love with the operating system. It blew Windows Vista and Windows 7 away in my opinion. That's really when I decided to purchase a Mac for my personal use, and port many of my games over too it as well. However, most of my paying customers have Windows PCs so if I support Macintosh computers I also have to support Windows. Since I also have a Linux system here, and I use Linux a lot myself, I decided to support it as well. It is a lot of overhead, but I think once I create the cross platform Genesis Engine and get the necessary Mac OS, Linux, and Windows support designed in the engine creating the games should be the easy part. [Audyssey] how do I fix this?
I had to reinstall my iyp app yesterday when some files got corrupted. I fixed one problem but discovered another one. Now when I get fs2004 up and running, all is good, but when I load iyp the registered version, I get a chance to tab around the dialog for a bit in iyp, then I lose speech entirely while the apps are loaded unless, I'm back in the ms flight sim window where I can read menus, but volume slider bars for example won't read right, and trying to check the time for example with insert f12 doesn't work at all. Also with push to talk active I used to have to hit scroll lock twice to toggle it with jfw, now I just need one press. Its almost like jfw shuts down completely while in the iyp window after a time and is completely silent in fs till a menu is displayed. I guess I have two questions, one, how do I put fs in window mode as i can't minimize it while a flight is actually loaded, and two has anyone found a way to hide the iyp window or windows cause I think it puts up two of them? I'm hoping that if the windows are minimized that one app might speak. I don't think this is something I can turn over to their tech support as it could vary well be considered a jfw issue. I can't use IYP here at all. maybe it's that I disabled something by accedent because it doewsn't recognize any commands but the speech recognition is set up, but I couldn't go through what I should have gone through,, training. I'm confused by what I should read and what is the window text... Hi. for me, at least according to jfw, after a time the IYP window just disappears on me, til it errors out because of no registration being submitted. I suspect that in this latest update robert has unintentionally really knocked accessibility back to virtually 0. I have e mailed him trying to explain clearly the issues I am experiencing, but so far no response. Have other people also tried e mailing him? I am sure he will fix the accessibility issues when he can, unfortunately as I haven't even purchased IYP yet, I basically am stuck with a useless app because of the navigation problems. I can't even get my pilot number to purchase IYP because I literally just can't navigate its window to submit the registration and get the screen up displaying it. I hope he understands our problems lol. I guess we need to tell him in as much detail what we are facing, and if we have to mention various cursors such as jaws and pc I guess we need to explain the differences, as remember its no good complaining to him it doesn't work, he needs to be told from the ground up how we review the screen and the various techniques we use, he needs as much detail as possible so he can make things better for us. I guess ideally we wouldn't have to use the jaws cursor and it would be good if we could access registration with the regular pc cursor. I guess we need to tell him in as much detail what we are facing, and if we have to mention various cursors such as jaws and pc I guess we need to explain the differences, as remember its no good complaining to him it doesn't work, he needs to be told from the ground up how we review the screen and the various techniques we use, he needs as much detail as possible so he can make things better for us. I guess ideally we wouldn't have to use the jaws cursor and it would be good if we could access registration with the regular pc cursor. well tom if you get paralels working you can have vms running on the mac, I think people have managed to set windows and linux on the same box. Hi. I used to have this as an actual plastic game when I was younger. it was only a minny version unfortunately but still fun. [Audyssey] Crocodile dentist
Hi, I just tried the new game from Braillesoft, the crocodile dentist. But the game doesn't work for me. The arrows do absolutely nothing in the game, so I can't select a tooth to pull. Any help? hi. the solution to getting the game working propperly is to either unload or put your screen reader to sleep. as I found til i put jaws to sleep I couldn't navigate with the arrows or pull teeth. so what you do is this you load the game, then if you use jaws load your configuration manager. then go to advanced options and select the checkbox that says enable sleep mode. then tab around to ok and select it. save the configuration file when it asks. then exit crocodile dentist and reload it. then you should find it works fine. also another thing to note, the game is a bit odd in that it doesn't use standard buttons and dialogs when the game asks a question like do you want instructions or do you want to play again you actually have to type the word yes or no and press enter. its no good just pressing y or n and expecting it to do something. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. [Audyssey] work around for those using iyp
Okay folks, keep in mind that this data is preliminary at best cause I haven't had time with the holliday to test it under the most basic of conditions, but this is what I did and it restored about 70 percent of my jfw reading back to me. First do these things in this order, break this order and you risk problems down the line. First load up fs2004 and get your plane where you want it. Second, load up any real world weather if your going to use it. Third, load your flight plan or create and load your flight plan so that it can take advantage of your updated weather conditions and move the plane to the correct runway. Fourth, unload jfw. Fifth load iyp by either assigning it to a shortcut key or by knowing where it will be on your desktop. You can highlight the icon prior to unloading jfw if you wish. Finally, reload jfw and proceed with your flight by getting back in to your flight sim window and working as normal, if you must work in the iyp window following these steps outlined above will keep jfw cursor keys and other keys working correctly. Caution, unless you have no choice, don't reset the system to cold and dark. Apparently iyp does something with grabbing keyboard control away from jfw, and the only way to correct the situation is to load iyp first, then reload jfw. I haven't had a chance to test this out under flight conditions so if someone else gets to it prior to my posting to the list, I'll leave it to them to post their findings. I'll of course post my follow up when I can, but for now folks, its late for me, its been a long day, and I just got home and figured I'd post this for those adventurous souls that for whatever reason just haven't forced themselves to that wonderful blissful state of existence we call sleep. *snickers.
