Hi, what Dark told you is correct.

Anyway everyone remember that with the new patch you can change the heading
system from the Cartesian standard to the Clock one, with 0 degrees being
North.

To download the patch or the updated demo go here:

Hello Shard and everyone on this list,

I surmise that 90 north means you go to the North, not Northeast, but to
the right but still heading north? It is just I have not heard of this said
direction thing before in my life.

 P. S.
Sorry if I have understood what has been said here about the direction
 compass in a wrong manner.

Re: [Audyssey] Shard Workshop Zero Sight released!

2011-12-23 Thread dark

Hi muhammed.

the issue is about angles around a circle and how they show direction of
travel. I'm not sure how much geometry in maths you've done yet, but the
basic idea is very simple.

Imagine a circle like a clock face, but instead of numbers 1-12, you have
360 degrees spaced around the circle. By saying turnt to such and such a
degree, you dictate how much about the circle someone turns, hence the
expression a 180 degree turn, which is half of 360, ie, turning around and
facing the opposite way.

the problem is in zero sight where the zero point of the circle is. In the
true cartesian mathematical method as Tom said, zero is on the eastern side
of the circle where the three would be on a clock, so in Zero sight you'd
need to turn your plane to angle 90 degrees to go north.

however, most people here are used to the system lone wolf has and the
system used by the military, where zero is held to be north, thus
corresponding to where the 12 would be on a clock.

that's personally the method I prefer, 0 at north, 90 east, 180 south and
270 west, for navigating in real time i find that makes a good bit more
sense, even though in maths that's not what you'd draw.

I hope this explains the debate successfully.

Beware the grue!

Re: [Audyssey] Shard Workshop Zero Sight released!

2011-12-23 Thread Ron Kolesar

also, if you think of the clock like this.
Each number on the clock is spaced 30 degrees apart.
So from twelve o'clock high, would be either 360 or 0.
But from twelve to one you would have 030, from one tow two, you would have
060, from two to three, you would have 090, from three to four you would
have 120, from four to five you would have 150 and from five down to six
would be 180 and so on.
Also, I've also learned from reading and from fsx and the IYP project, that
when you file your flight plan or fp, just a hair to the right of twelve and
down to just a hair to the left of six will be odd numbered altitudes.
Flight level 19,000 or 190 or 1 9er 0, 210,000 or 210 and so on.
From just a hair to the right of six and up to just a hair to the left of

twelve o'clock will be even number flight levels or fl.
18,000 or 180, 20,000 or 200 and so on.
Also, I can't remember, but if I do remember correctly? SMILES.
It is either 500 ft clearance space for safety all around and above and
under the plane, or it's 1,000 feet all around and above and under the
aircraft for safety.

At least here in the states.
Maybe someone could educate me on that.
But hope that helps out everyone.
Merry christmas to all and to all a good night.

As soon as the patch will be ready, it will freely downloadable from http:
www.shardworkshop.com/zero-sight for anyone who bought the game. The ones
with the demo will just need to re download it.

On the compass matter, everyone may be right. We know that 0 North is
something a lot of you are used, but we're receiving also positive review
from people who like 90 North, so it's probably a matter of preference!

As for some of the flying tricks, you are right, Zero Sight is not a
perfect simulator, but we HAD to relax some realistic aspects to gran a bit
of playability. Anyway, when you shut your engines a real plan does not
fall like an anvil or like wile e. coyote :D. You have momentum, so you'll
still be flying a bit forward.

As for Mario, yes using the official forum would be really the best thing :D

Hi,

I personally think for a game like Zero Sight you should stick to the
bearing system with 0 as north because that is pretty standard for any
flight simulation or space sim. Plus other sims like Tank Commander,
Lone Wolf, etc also use 0 as north when giving directions to enemy
targets etc.

Cheers!

Hi Dallas,

He is using the Cartesian system of angles for direction in Zero
Sight. It makes sense if we are talking Geometry or some higher level
math like that, but most people use the Bearing system when referring
to north, south, east, and west directions in day to day life. North
is (0, 0, 0) and south is (1, 8, 0) in the Bearing system, but in a
Cartesian system (0, 0, 0) is east, and (1, 8, 0) is west.Its easier
from a mathematical point of view to calculate angles when 0 is at a
right angle.

Cheers!

ahh, ok. interesting way of doing things in a flight sim, as what do
pilots have in front of them? ... a compass. all plains have one.
actually, they have several. lol.

let alone gps systems, which work on compass headings.
i think at the very least, a toggle could be used to switch between that
and compass bearings, but perhaps i am to used to actual flight controls.
but also, as has been pointed out, its what most people use in day to
day usage, so it would be easier for them to understand compass bearings.

I remember doing angles that way in maths, and it does indeed make more
sense, but I'm less convinced that it's used in military forces, I would've
thought they either just use either the usual eight cumpus directions, or
360 degrees with zero for north.

I'm getting used to it slowly though, it's just harder to remember where
northeast southwest etc are.

Cheers!

The reference system is based on the Cartesian coordinate system, that's
why 0 is East. I'm sure you great pilots will get used to it in a flight or
two ;)

2011/12/19 Dallas O'Brien dallas-obr...@bigpond.com

yeah. its looking good. one idea though, for the developer. would it be
possible to set the directions, as compass directions? as its quite
disorienting to have degrees that don't match up to compass headings. like,
0 being north, not east, 90 being east, 180 being south, and 270 being west?
this would be a lot easier for those of us used to working with such
directions from other devices and games.

Re: [Audyssey] Shard Workshop Zero Sight released!

2011-12-19 Thread Shard Workshop
The z key only tells you th altitude, it doesn't really change it. Keep
trying!
In the demo map there is only one aircraft, and is to the North compared to
your position.
The main differences between the demo and the full release is that in the
full release you get to play 8 missions with briefing and objectives, 8 map
(of which one is completely random generated, that is, is different every
time you play it) in which you can do whatever you want (much like the demo
map, but with a lot of enemy airports genating air and land traffic),
you'll be able to use all the four missiles and customize the cargo of your
aircraft.

2011/12/19 william lomas will.d.lo...@gmail.com

when i take off can't seem to climb pressing down arrow is sending my nose
up i know that, but i can't get the z key to make altitude climb. also i
just seem to be flying around aimlessly in the free flight mode is this
 where no enemies are concerned?
what will be the difference between option 2, map mode, and option 3, free
flight, if i buy the game?
also the overlapping announcements are confusing to be honest.

Any chance of having a audio walk through and for each stip by step from

off of the ground.

I'll give this sim another try.
But I hate to say it.
The first try this sim was way way way over this blind pilot's abilitiy.
Also, for the future.
Will there be USB support written into the zero sight sim?

Just thinking out loud, and having never flown a plane or played this demo;
I wonder how much there is for budding pilots to remember and keep track of?
Could it be that this demo is more realistic than anything we're used to?

So do we need to down load another up dated demo?
I think having the shortcuts will help out.
In this blind pilot's opinion, there just was way way to much to try and
digest to learn to fly.

Something to think about.
Any chance of having a audio walk through and for each stip by step from
the beginning use and show us all of the shortcut keystrokes until you get
off of the ground.

I'll give this sim another try.
But I hate to say it.
The first try this sim was way way way over this blind pilot's abilitiy.
Also, for the future.
Will there be USB support written into the zero sight sim?
Hope this feedback helps to make a interesting new flight simulator easier
to fly via we blind pilots and more enjoyable to fly via we blind pilots.

hi, i agree. in turms of actually flying the plain, it couldn't be
easyer. lol.
in turms of navagation however, its a little different. flying by
compass headings is the way its done for a reason. its a language nearly
all people who have had contact with navigational instroments, weather
that be an actual compass, or other forms, have come in to contact with
somehow. pluss, the degrees are aranged that way for a reason.
thats why flying with this system is very confusing, as in my mind now,
over the years, 0, or 360 is north,90, or 090 is east, 180 is south, and
270 is west. so when you start with 0 beeing east, this throws off all
sense of direction i have.

also, another note for the developer, when you cut power to your
engines, bringing the power to 0, or turning the engines off, your plain
is still moving forwards. it does not come to a stop in the air and go
straight down. let alone if you put the nose down, this would accelerate
you forwards as well as down. this is how you can regain some speed if
your engines stop, and you should still be able to land at a nearby
airport if your engines are damaged or you run out of fuel.
of course, if you pull the nose up while you have 0 power, or not enough
power, this would in fact bring you to a stall, or 0 forward movement.

other then these few things, its a fantastic game! and is very fun to play.

HI,
I have to agree. Using the cartisian system is great for those of us who
appreciate mathematics (myself included, heheh) but I have to agree the
compass system of degrees works better and is much more commonly used. Also,
I believe north and south are reversed in some way: I find myself going
north and having my y coordinate decrease.

HI,
More realistic than anything we are used to? I don't think so, but it's up
there in terms of realism. But in all honesty, there is not all that much to
grasp, if you take it a little at a time. Start with just the keystrokes
necessary for a takeoff, then start figuring out the other status keys, then
the rader (which, admittedly, is a little complicated, but I like it).

HI,
More realistic than anything we are used to? I don't think so, but it's up

grasp, if you take it a little at a time. Start with just the keystrokes
necessary for a takeoff, then start figuring out the other status keys, then
the rader (which, admittedly, is a little complicated, but I like it).

Just thinking out loud, and having never flown a plane or played this demo;

So that's my opinion of the new hand to ear flight simulator at this time.

2011-12-18 Thread Dallas O'Brien
yeah. its looking good. one idea though, for the developer. would it be
possible to set the directions, as compass directions? as its quite
disorienting to have degrees that don't match up to compass headings.
like, 0 being north, not east, 90 being east, 180 being south, and 270
being west?
this would be a lot easier for those of us used to working with such
directions from other devices and games.

2011-12-18 Thread Ron Kolesar

I too would appreciate that.
I was always taught the following.
Look at a clock. Each number of the clock equaled thirty degrees. But both
either 0 and or 360 was north.

090 degrees with east.
180 was south, and 270 degrees was west.
One other recommendation
Any chance of writing in USB game pad and or USB flight yoke support into
the game.
I think this would be easier than trying to remember all of the keyboard
commands.

Just a thought to make the new sim as close to realistic as possible.

with the help of your radar, things are a little easier to work with. Still,

Do you know if you will ever add mouse support? I think mouse support would
give finer control of the airplane and there are several audio games using
this type of control as well.

what will be the difference between option 2, map mode, and option 3, free
flight, if i buy the game?
also the overlapping announcements are confusing to be honest.
