And, Thomas, you said that Angela swims under water? Well, when she comes
out of the water, you could make her a little breathing sound.

I think it kind of sounds like a flooded room with an odd waterfall thing
in the middle of it. but it definitely doesn't sound like its under water.
It'd be neat if the two could be differentiated between, you could have
above water swimming, and under water swimming, for example swimming
through a completely flooded passage. Given that the temple is built at
different levels there'd be different levels of flooding in different rooms
and coridors. Just a thought.

No, that isn't a bug. I had to add that little restriction to fix a
problem with the joystick and mouse. Without that restriction when using
a joystick/mouse the game would simply continuously jump until Angela hit
a wall, landed in a fire, or whatever. The player absolutely had little
to no control over jumping using a joystick or mouse until I added that
restriction. Now, things work much smoother.

Ok, haven't noticed that one. Although, not much I can do about that one
in any case.

It doesn't sound like that deep of water, what's it supposed to be?

Well, Angela is losing oxygen/air because she is swimming underwater.
Especially when retreaving the keys from the water. As for what exactly
it is suppose to be I'm still figuring that out. I've thought of
everything from a flooded room, to an underground lake, underground
stream, whatever. Just haven't decided what it is suppose to be.

By load game I am assuming here you mean you tried to load a saved game.
Did you in fact have a saved game before trying to load a game, and was
it saved in the same slot as the one you tried to load?
I know these questions sound dumb, but they are actually important. I
need to know step by step what you did so I can attempt to reproduce the
problem.

Thanks.

Re: [Audyssey] WII tips

2009-04-12 Thread Ken
Wii Sports is by far the most accessible game I have found, although Wii Fit
is good too.
To access Wii sports, or any other game cd you have in, start the Wii with
the power button, then point at the screen until you feel the Wiimote
vibrate, then push A. You'll want to learn the sounds of the channels so
that when you put in a brand new game, you'll be able to tell it from the
others. The sports game sounds a bit like a fanfare. To change between
channels, press the plus and minus keys, which are on opposite sides of the
indented button, which gives you the option of going back to the Wii main
menu screen. Then you have to find the start button, which is just going to
be trial and error. I can tell you though that it's lower and to the right
of the sports channel button. If you click on the wrong thing, usually a
channel change button or a go back button, just start the process over--soon
you'll be pointing and clicking easily enough. Anyway, after you click a,
you'll hear the fanfare in a slightly lower key with some electric guitars
in the background. Press a and b together. then comes the main sports
menu, with tennis, bowling, baseball, golf, and boxing from top to bottom.
All these games are mostly accessible, though tennis gets tricky if you have
a lot of points and are playing the computer--you'll hit the ball out of
bounds as often as not. I can beat my brother-in-law often when we play
together, but the computer isn't an easy opponent once you're a pro.
Anyway, with most of the games, you click the one you want--using the arrows
on the DPad to move between items, then, you'll find five buttons. Upper
left: 1 player. Upper right: two players. Bottom row goes three players,
four players, and more Wiimotes. This is not true of Baseball which is only
a two-player game.
After you click the game, you'll notice you can only move to the left, and
that only once. The default is same players, but moving to the left
highlights change players. After you pick your players or leave them you're
ready to play. In Tennis it's good to listen to others play a game or two
to give you an idea of the timing involved, but of course you can try
yourself and see what works. The standard tennis game I play has me in
front and back facing either a computer or a human opponent in front and
back, but you can play teams as well as have the computer be in one of the
positions for you. To get to the game where you are both front and back
person, which means that you hit the ball with either person as it comes
over the net, go down once. Then you'll be in the match menu where you
choose the number of games to play. Default is singles, but if you move
left once you'll be in best of five. Move right from singles to get to best
of three. Then hit a and start. To serve, either throw the ball up by
swinging the Wiimote or simply hit a, then swing to hit the ball. If you're
in single mode the sounds from the other side of the net will be quieter,
but pay close attention to the volume of the ball-how it' is hit and how it
bounces. You'll be able to judge fairly accurately when to hit if you
listen to them. Your front person hits the ball before it bounces; your
rear person hits it after. Generally, you hit the ball a half second after
it bounces if you're using the rear person, and about two thirds of a second
after it is hit to use the front player.
Bowling is very straightforward--just hold down b, swing your arm back,
swing it forward until your arm is raised and, at the fastest part of the
swing, let go of b. There is also a bowling training game that's
accessible--the power throws. For every frame, additional pins are added so
that in the tenth frame, you're knocking down 91 pins if you get a strike.
My high score for that one is 665 points--I still don't know how I did it,
but I bowled a nearly perfect game that time.
For baseball, and perhaps tennis as well, you'll need to crank the sound a
bit to hear the pitches coming at you. There are two distinct sounds,, and
you want to swing about a quarter second after the start of the second,
longer sound. Pitching is easy--just swing like you're pitching and, if you
want, you can use a, b, or both to modify the pitches. For best results,
hold a and b and gently shake it--you'll throw a slow splitter that's almost
impossible to hit.
Likewise, golf is relatively straightforward, though not as accessible as
you have to rely on someone who can read the screen to tell you about
distance, wind speed and direction, and so on--but even without all that
help I often get birdies on beginner level. Once you start, you'll have a
skill level menu where you can move up and down, and it defaults to
beginner. Generally, the first hole on beginner takes a good drive and a
few putts to get you in the hole. The second needs a good hard swing, a
moderately hard swing, and some putts to get you there. The

2009-04-12 Thread Phil Vlasak

Hi Ken,
If I type pcsgames.net from Internet Explorer, it loads the pcsgames.net.htm
file from my computer, and does not go to the web site.

It looks like I'm on the web site but I'm not.
I need to use an FTP client to get my files on to my web site too.

Re: [Audyssey] my site

2009-04-12 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi Ken,
Two things.
First, As you might know I have a free games page on my web site. If you
want I can add your games to the free games section of my web site.
Either as a main page for your games or a as a secondary mirror for
them. All you need to do is give me the files, and I can put them up.
Second, unless you have changed the port settings on your cable modem
I'm going to say port 80 is being blocked by it. You need to open the
cable modems configuration manager and tell it to send and receive on
port 80. Obviously, you can receive just fine as they would have to
leave that open for web access, but as for sending on port 80 by default
that is turned off.

Ken wrote:
I'm starting to wonder if the time warner cable modem is acting like a router for some reason--I don't get this at all.
Kelly Sapergia has offered to host the site, or at least the files, and I'm taking him up on that. Until then, I'll see about putting the files on SendSpace or somewhere.

This is frustrating! Should have guessed that the cable company would
complicate things.

Hi,
Good point. I've been meaning to add an underwater sound effect to the
game but haven't. In any case the point has been well made that she
could swim on top of the water so just disabling/removing the oxygen
depletion is probably the most logical thing to do in hthis case.

you could have above water swimming, and under water swimming, for
example swimming through a completely flooded passage. Given that the
temple is built at different levels there'd be different levels of
flooding in different rooms and coridors. Just a thought.

Okay, another interesting thing. I can ping that IP address, without the
port added. I can also get a Telnet log in prompt if I telnet to it
without the port number added. So, am I right in guessing that somehow
port is being blocked, either by my firewall, which is just the
plain old windows one, or by Verizon?

When bowling, how do you know what pins remain after your first ball and
where to stand and aim for shooting strikes or spares? Also, how do you
know your score during a game?

Wii Sports is by far the most accessible game I have found, although Wii
Fit is good too.
To change between
channels, press the plus and minus keys, which are on opposite sides of
the indented button, which gives you the option of going back to the Wii
main menu screen. Then you have to find the start button, which is just
going to be trial and error. I can tell you though that it's lower and to
the right of the sports channel button. If you click on the wrong thing,
usually a channel change button or a go back button, just start the
process over--soon you'll be pointing and clicking easily enough. Anyway,
after you click a, you'll hear the fanfare in a slightly lower key with
some electric guitars in the background. Press a and b together. then
comes the main sports menu, with tennis, bowling, baseball, golf, and
boxing from top to bottom. All these games are mostly accessible, though
tennis gets tricky if you have a lot of points and are playing the
computer--you'll hit the ball out of bounds as often as not. I can beat
my brother-in-law often when we play together, but the computer isn't an
easy opponent once you're a pro. Anyway, with most of the games, you click
the one you want--using the arrows on the DPad to move between items,
then, you'll find five buttons. Upper left: 1 player. Upper right: two
players. Bottom row goes three players, four players, and more Wiimotes.
This is not true of Baseball which is only a two-player game.
After you click the game, you'll notice you can only move to the left, and
that only once. The default is same players, but moving to the left
highlights change players. After you pick your players or leave them
you're ready to play. In Tennis it's good to listen to others play a game
or two to give you an idea of the timing involved, but of course you can
try yourself and see what works. The standard tennis game I play has me
in front and back facing either a computer or a human opponent in front
and back, but you can play teams as well as have the computer be in one of
the positions for you. To get to the game where you are both front and
back person, which means that you hit the ball with either person as it
comes over the net, go down once. Then you'll be in the match menu where
you choose the number of games to play. Default is singles, but if you
move left once you'll be in best of five. Move right from singles to get
to best of three. Then hit a and start. To serve, either throw the ball
up by swinging the Wiimote or simply hit a, then swing to hit the ball.
If you're in single mode the sounds from the other side of the net will be
quieter, but pay close attention to the volume of the ball-how it' is hit
and how it bounces. You'll be able to judge fairly accurately when to hit
if you listen to them.  Your front person hits the ball before it bounces;
your rear person hits it after. Generally, you hit the ball a half second
after it bounces if you're using the rear person, and about two thirds of
a second after it is hit to use the front player.
Bowling is very straightforward--just hold down b, swing your arm back,
swing it forward until your arm is raised and, at the fastest part of the
swing, let go of b. There is also a bowling training game that's
accessible--the power throws. For every frame, additional pins are added
so that in the tenth frame, you're knocking down 91 pins if you get a
strike. My high score for that one is 665 points--I still don't know how I
did it, but I bowled a nearly perfect game that time.
For baseball, and perhaps tennis as well, you'll need to crank the sound a
bit to hear the pitches coming at you. There are two distinct sounds,,
and you want to swing about a quarter second after the start of the
second, longer sound. Pitching is easy--just swing like you're pitching
and, if you want, you can use a, b, or both to modify the pitches. For
best results, hold a and b and gently shake it--you'll throw a slow
splitter that's almost impossible to hit.
Likewise, golf is relatively straightforward, though not as accessible as
you have to rely on someone who can read the screen to tell you

[Audyssey] the sounds in MOTA's water room - Re: MOTA beta four impressions.

2009-04-12 Thread Charles Rivard
To me, it does sound like you land in deep water, and you are swimming
rather than wading through the room. It does sound like there is a fountain
in the room, rather than a waterfall, although I suppose it could be a small
waterfall. If you do not use the shift key as you move through the water,
it definitely does sound like you are swimming.

[Audyssey] The arrow sounds in MOTA

2009-04-12 Thread Milos Przic
   Hello all,
This message will be a little longer, although this can be said in less
words than I will say. Anyway, I don't know why people think that the sound of
the arrows in the previous versions of Mota is better when it is not realistic.
The new sound is better, but there is another problem. For example, when I hit
a monster with the arrow, the monster is hit although the sound of the
bowstring is still playing, so the arrow is not released from the bow. I think
that this fact is more important than the arrow sound itself, but I also know
that it can be a difficult for Thomas, because I don't know much about
programing languages, and don't know if the code of the language Thomas is
working in can support that.
I appologize for my bad English, but I hope that you understand me well
enough...

Re: [Audyssey] The arrow sounds in MOTA

2009-04-12 Thread Charles Rivard
What bad English? It's better than some whose first language actually is
English. As for the arrow sounds, these are more like those made by a
crossbow, and my personal preference is the other sound. I hadn't noticed
the sound of the bow string still playing. I'll listen closer. I would
think that the sound of the string and the arrow in flight and maybe the
sound of the arrow hitting the monsters are different sounds, and they are
played in sequence. Maybe the sound of the string could be shortened just a
bit to solve this little sound effect? Just a thought.

Neither one of them was very realistic. I perfectly understand that its hard
to come by realistic sounds for things though. I've been looking for good
weapon and combat sound effects for some time now. I do have some very nice

of a bow being drawn.
