May I ask where you picked up this deal up at? Sounds like something I would be

SMILES.
I think Ihave about fifteenmailboxes now. SMILES.
I just recently pick up a HPNT win10 pc.
It has a a 10 processor.
But we were told that the A 10 processer is equal to a intel 7 processor.
So it has some kick up and go der the hud. SMILES.
It has a two trick hd in it.
I would looking for a little larger hd. Maybe around a three or a five trig hd.
But my dad spotted this awsome deal and he was the one that picked it up for me.
My brother was with him and he got himself a new win 10 laptop.
I don't know what all the stats are on the laptop.
I have ten USB ports and I have twelve gigs of memory.
My dad told me that he can uninstall my older vid card from my older unit.
Because I use Microsoft flight simulator and you need a high end vid card to
use that simulator.
But I will see if the vid card that came with the unit will give me any
problems first.
One thing I have to tell everyone about.
The USB wireless keyboard that comes with the unit.
Sell it to the first sucker that comes across your path. SMILES.
Even the It guy who came and inported my older mailboxes and mail for me
couldn't belive this stupid keyboard.
For example.
The insert key was on the top roll and you had to count seven over from right
to left tofind it.
There was now spacing like there normally is in a computer or even from those
olden days of large print a typewriter keyboard has keys spaces apart and
grouped together.
Please for give me for the A915Felling errors.
I do have two major medical issues, and it is now starting to effect my hands
and fingers while I trying to type.
The i.d.number once again is 722401 and it was the computer itself ws on sell
for $599.
So a awsome deal.
Pluse, I got a nice email letter from the saleman and also a second letter from
the team for with the extra $120 or in that neighborhood on the extra insurance.
So, that is what is up from here.
I almost forgot.
The I.T tech who did my mail for me is a new employee at our local sight center
and he keeps their pc's running for them and for others as well.
HE only works on Thursdays, and since this thursday is thanks giving he worked
yesterday and I got lucky to catch him at work.
Plus he only lives down the street from us and said to call him for any
problems.
But he's running win 10 and he's only runnning defender that comes with win 10.
HE's saying that he would pick up vipre or any other program and don't know
what one would with defender running.
So that was his two cents when I had asked him about it.
Because the first to rules on computers is safety and to back up back up back
up. SMILES.
So that's my adventure since about the 18 or 19th of November.

Hi All,

Are all Vipre products accessible with Jaws? The reason I'm asking is that
I received an e-mail from Vipre today with the same $49 offer for the
Internet security that was mentioned on the list over the weekend, but the
regular Vipre antivirus will also be on sale at some point this weekend and
I thought I might go with that if all of Vipre's products are equally
Jaws-compatible.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Jaws and Vipre

Hi All,

Are all Vipre products accessible with Jaws? The reason I'm asking is that I
received an e-mail from Vipre today with the same $49 offer for the Internet
security that was mentioned on the list over the weekend, but the regular Vipre
antivirus will also be on sale at some point this weekend and I thought I might
go with that if all of Vipre's products are equally Jaws-compatible.

That sounds like a good plan Lenny. The larger HDD and higher amount of RAM
will serve you well. hp is as good as a Machine as you will find. from my iPhone

Mike, I do not remember the ram in the Toshiba but it has a 500 hd and the hp

will be the same price. If they do not have Bluetooth I think an adaptor is not
too expensive. I would like the larger HD because I could slowly move all of my
saved stuff on the old desktop to a storage area on the laptop. Maybe then just
use the laptop as my main computer and recycle this boat anchor. If I get rid
of the desktop, I have a copy of the oem windows setup disk. I would then be
able to create a dos partition on Karen's macbook and install windows. She
likes windows much better. Since she gets the macbooks free every 3 years she
has to use it.

Hi Lenny,

Toshiba and hp are both good machines. You should not have any trouble out
of either one. If the laptop has blue tooth capabilities, then you should be
able to connect from 3 to 5 devices to the computer at any one given time,
maybe more. If something refuses to connect, then disconnect something that
you are not using at that time and try again, the device should connect
then. Either machine will work equally well with Jaws, I am curious what
makes up the regular price difference. Does one laptop have more memory than
the other, or maybe a larger hard drive? If so, go with the one with the
largest amount of RAM. I find that I can get by with a fairly small hard
drive, but having enough memory is crucial to having the computer operate
well with jamming up and it can minimize crashes. Good luck with your new
laptop, that is the type of deal that I have been looking for. I may have to
check it out myself.

I never used a laptop computer. I am sure that I will have to purchase a
full size wireless keyboard as well. For the black Friday specials Staples
has a Toshiba regular $499 and an HP that reg is $599. Both after sale and
rebates drop down to $299. These are I3 processors.
I only plan to use it for MS word, browsing, email and maybe Exphinity to
listen to some TV shows. I am the committee chairman for a Boy Scout troop.
Using my I-phone to run the meetings with an earpiece is a little difficult
at times. With just having the keyboard in front of me, I would be able to
read my agenda and immediately update it for the next month meeting. I would
be able to place the laptop somewhere else in the room, keeping it out of
the way on the table.
Is there one brand or the other that will best work with jaws? Also will
Bluetooth work with several appliances on the laptop, keyboard, mouse,
wireless head phones?

Then I usually have to cut the entire line out of the to box and place it into

Go to the greater than sign and space it once so it isn’t near the original

crap out, and then cut the original copy of the email address that I want and
place it back into the to field once again, then double check it to make sure
there’s no colons or spaces at the end of the address. Then only then can I
ship out the letter.
Also, To the left of the body of the letter it states that I have a personal
business card. I never put it into any of my out going mail. So how can I kill
that as well?
I thank anyone who can help me out in advance.
Now I can read all of that back log of mail from about the last week from being

Vipre, to put it nicely, is a much better protection program than MSSE.

Internet Security in 2010. I believe it is a little more expensive now, but
not that much. I believe that a 1 year subscription of the regular
anti-virus (no firewall) runs around $40 U S at this time, but I would have
to check the website to be sure on this. It can be found at either

The only thing that will happen as a result of your reservation, is that the
installation file will be downloaded to your computer. yYou have complete
control of when, where, and how you choose to install the OS or not. It will
not automatically be installed onto your computer. If you should decide that
you do not want Win 10 at all, then simply delete the installation file from

Re: [JAWS-Users] WINDOWS 10, IS IT WORTH UPGRADING NOW?

2015-08-14 Thread Michael Boyd
No, I don't know that I would say exactly that Kevin, but during my first
update to Windows 10, There was a point after JAWS told me that the update
was downloading, that I could continue to use my computer, etc, then that it
was preparing the update or whatever, then it stated that it was starting to
install the update. At this point, JAWS was closed in order for the update
to take place. But, I did not panic, I had already read that this would
probably happen, so I just waited for some time. After about an hour, one of
my family members happened to be passing by, so I asked her to tell me what
was on the screen at that time, and she said that the computer wanted to
know if I wanted to go with the typical set up or a custom set up. So, I
thought OK, let me try to start JAWS again, which would not work, so then I
tried the Windows Enter shortcut for Narrator, and sure enough, it opened up
and read the screen to me, so I made my selection, and it announced
something like Installing files or something similar, so I just sat back
and waited. Microsoft had suggested that the computer should pretty much do
everything itself, and that not much interaction should be required, so this
is what I tried to let happen. After the computer stated that it was
installing the required files, no more than 10 or 15 minutes later, JAWS
again began to speak, and was asking me to log in. I input my password and
pressed Enter, and a few seconds later, the computer announced again that
JAWS for Windows was running. From this point, I used Windows + D to get to
the desktop, and found that the only thing there was recycle bin, so I
started wondering where all of my icons had gone, but after a few minutes of
trying to figur it out, the desktop repopulated itself, and everything was
there just as it was before the update. During the update to my second
computer, after JAWS stopped speaking,I simply waited for around 15 minutes
to let things happen, then I started Narrator on that computer, and things
went much quicker. There never was the opportunity to customize your set up
or make the selections that you get when doing a first time or clean install
of Windows, everything pretty much reverted back to where it was before the
update. I was asked to select a desktop background for some reason, and my
sound scheme has changed, but I honestly like the scheme that it changed to
better than what I was using before, which was Windows default.

Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] WINDOWS 10, IS IT WORTH UPGRADING NOW?

John,

Here's my take on your questions, after having updated 2 of my computers to
Windows 10 in the past week. 1 of these computers was a Windows 7 machine,
and the other was an 8.1 machine.

1.We know that Jaws doesn't work with the Edge browser or with the
e-mail client at this time.

2. There is a solution since Internet Explorer is also an option with
Windows 10 and apparently, Windows Live Mail and Outlook do work with the
new operating system.

Answer for #s 1 2: You are right in what you are saying, but Internet
Explorer does work very well with Windows 10, and so does Windows Live Mail,
which I have used for years, and I have heard many saying that Outlook is
working well too, so this should not be a hold back from updating.

3. Is there enough of a difference between Windows 8.1 and Windows 10
to make the change worth the transition?

Answer: I say yes, there is a huge difference. First, if you have had the
opportunity to use both Windows 7 and 8.1, then you know the differences
there, and as well, you know what you liked and disliked about both of them,
this being said, imagine an operating system that takes the best from each,
and combines them into one major upgrade, then, Microsoft gives it to you
for free! What's not to like? Secondly, I have not found very much in
Windows 10 that just does not work. Everything that I have tried so far,
except for Edge and the Mail app have worked well, even Cortana workkes
well, and she always seems to give me the information that I ask for, or
perform the task that I ask her to.
.
4. Will Jaws be able to work with Edge and the e-mail client later on?
Answer: I say yes again. I believe that Microsoft and/or Freedom Scientific,
will do what ever it takes to make both of these applications work with JAWS

Re: [JAWS-Users] Successful windows 10 upgrade

2015-08-14 Thread Michael Boyd

Kimsan,

I did get speech on the screen where you select the typical or custom setup
using narrator. It will start via the Windows + Enter shortcut. Remember
here, you are not uninstalling your previous Windows to install 10, you are
just updating, therfore much of your Windows functionality still remains
during the update. You can choose the typical setup using Narrator, then
let it finish the update, and the next thing you will get will either be the
Windows log in screen or your desktop, depending on how your computer is
configured.

You will need help with only this screen, as far as I have experienced so

You can do an ALT+n, for the next button.
You will need help to choose express settings.
Then ALT+n, for the last next button.

I then ran the F S windows tool for preparing for windows 10.
Next I downloaded the media tool from Microsoft.
I went to my download folder, and ran the media tool.
I chose, update this computer, from the media tool.
I had speech all the way through until it was done and loaded the windows 10

I tried narrator, but it would not see the next button at that time until
windows 10 had been totally installed.

I pressed the next button.
I Chose express settings.
I press the next button, and I waited until the desktop with windows 10

this installation was super smooth.
I uninstalled and reinstalled Jaws, did the same with my Mcafee, all is

I then customized the system and checked for new updates.

It is good for the battery to unplug the computer every so often, and pretty
much drain it, then plug it up and let the battery recharge. This cycle
keeps the battery from developing a shorter life span on each charge.

Should I unplug it from the power source?

it sounds like, is that the computer is not recognizing it, and probably not

Mario,

I don't see why you can't. You can still reserve today if you wanted to.
That didn't end on July 29, that is just the day that the update became
available for download. I didn't reserve my Gateway laptop until August 9,
and then I turned right around the same day and used the Creation Tool to
download the file and use it to install the update. I did all of that in
about 3 hours time, and it worked perfectly. Go ahead and give it a try, I
am almost certain that it will work for you..

Mike, a bit confused here. I did not reserve before 7/29, so does that
mean that I need to register first or can I just use the tool to
download and burn the iso? I was under the impression that because I did
not opt to reserve, I could just download the upgrade before 7/29/16 and
install 10.

Hi Londa,

Actually no, I have not tried sending Emails with Cortana as of yet. I am
glad to hear your experiences trying this however. I would have to assume
that she is configured to work with the default mail client, And maybe
Outlook as well. I suppose this is something that could be configured in the
account setup process. I will have to check into this to see what is
involved. Like you, I have multiple accounts, and am thinking that the
default account may be the one that she is going to want to use. Interesting
though. I will post anything that I find during the process so other listers
may benefit from it.

Hi Mike,
You said that you've been using Cortana. Have you ever tried sending email?
I did, and she said I needed to set up an account. I have 3 email accounts
set up in Outlook on that computer. Does she only send email through the
mail app? To keep this JAWS related, I do notice that JAWS doesn't talk over
her too much. I'm one of those fortunate people who almost always has a
Braille display handy, so I just turn speech off if it's a problem. I want
to do more testing before I recommend her to clients.

I believe that Microsoft and/or Freedom Scientific,

will do what ever it takes to make both of these applications work with JAWS

in the near future. It is true, that right now, they are both in an unusable

state, but this was mentioned up front, and the decisions to update have
still been in record breaking numbers. Mostly, I have heard only good
reviews of the program to this point, and yes, there have been some who have

experienced some problems trying to install the update, but many times, I
believe it has been because Microsoft's recommendations were not followed
during the process. I have installed the thing onto
2 of my computers so far, one of which I am about to give uto someone else
to use, and I am about to install Windows 10 onto my last computer, a Lenovo

desktop which I recently purchased. So far, I have not experienced any
problems with updating either of my computers, and the whole process takes
only about 2 hours to perform. I used narrator during both of my
installations to select the Typical installation option, and shortly
after, my computers rebooted and JAWS began speaking again. Nothing was lost

in the process, just as promised.

Having used Windows 10 for a little while now, I don't think that I would
want to go back to 7 or 8.1. Both are great operating systems, but both are
lacking in some areas that I believe are made up for in Windows 10. At any
rate, this is my opinion, and I believe it counts for something, if not to
anyone but me. I say to you, Update man, you won't regret it.

2015-08-14 Thread Michael Boyd

Hi Kevin,

No, I have not tried removing the Windows.old folder from my computer yet,
if for some reason you wanted to revert back to your previous operating
system, this folder is pertinent to doing so without having to do a complete
reinstallation. I have deleted these folders in the past however, and have
never had any problems in doing so. There should not be anything to prevent
one from deleting all of the contents since they should not be linked to any
currently installed programs, but you never know how Microsoft does some of
these things that they do, making this transition to Windows 10 as easy as
it has been, and through a fairly sinple update, could have included some
different links between Windows 10 and either 7 or 8.1 which will not allow
the complete deletion of these files as of yet. I am sure that after some
time has past and updates have been made, that this would become possible to
remove. Microsoft Accessibility might be able to give some good insight into
why this is happening. You might want to call them on it. If you do, please
let all of us know what was said.

and the other was an 8.1 machine.

I believe that Microsoft and/or Freedom Scientific,
will do what ever it takes to make both of these applications work with JAWS
in the near future.

Re: [JAWS-Users] deleting windows.old folder

2015-08-13 Thread Michael Boyd

Kevin,

Are you saying that your Windows.old folder does not contain anything? If
not, that's strange, because it should have a lot of stuff in it. Should you
want to revert back to your old operating system, you will need this folder
and its contents to do so. Maybe the files and folders within it have
gotten hidden in some way?

when I select cleanup system files, I check everything that is not 0 bytes.
I execute the cleanup, then after I restart I go back into the c drive and

I'm with you, Jason.

I will be happier with Outlook, if I can find out how to enlarge the print

to keep a sender's address.

I called the library to see if they had a book on Outlook 2013, but not yet,

Of all the things I disliked, having no control of updates was at the

I imagine JAWS will catch up win 10, but it already works just fine

Windows Live Mail is free, and is part of a suite of programs called Windows
Live Essentials, which includes Mail, Writer, One Drive,Photo Gallery, and
Movie Maker. You can choose which of these you want to install, and to me,
Mail is the only one that I would have. I haven't used Outlook Express, but
I do know that Windows Live Mail, when developed, was taken straight from
the Outlook Express program. In fact, when you open your Inbox in Windows
Live Mail, JAWS reads Outlook Express message list view. The web address
for the download of Windows Live Essentials is:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-live/essentials

The last version of this program is 2012, but it is still a very good suite
of stuff.

Open Control Pannel.
Open Default Programs.
Open Set Your Default Programs.
Tab down until you find the List View, then arrow down until you find
Internet Explorer, or you can just press the letter I, it should be the
first one to come up.
Stay focused on Internet Explorer, and tab down further to Set this
program as default.

Lastly, tab down to the OK button, and press enter.

You are done.

Cortana is a new part of Windows 10. She is a personal assistant like Siri

Microsoft says it appears on the desktop- does this mean it's like a normal

Hi Jim,

What did you do when you had to select between a Typical setup and a Custom
setup? I installed Windows 10 just as you did, but when the actual
installation started, I lost JAWS for speech, and could not get Narator to
start. Several hours past before I could complete the installation. I
finally had someone with sight to read my screen for me, and it was obvious
what I needed to do, and the remainder of the installation only took a few
minutes from that point. Once it did finish, JAWS restarted and prompted for
my sign in information. So far, I am liking Windows 10, but I did have that
one little hiccup which required some sighted assistance to get through.

I do not use WLM 2011, I use 2012, and this is found on the Folders ribbon,
so you will have to look through your menus to find where the Message Rules
item is found. However, once you do find this, you would want to select
Where the From line contains a specific account, and in the next item you
would select Send to this specific folder, now, in the following edit
fields, you wouldtype in the email address for the JAWS Users List, then the
name of your folder. Next, give the rule a name. Now, click on apply and OK
to finish setting up your rule.

Where did you get this file? Was it through the Windows 10 upgrade tool or
what ever they call it? If so, this will install Windows 10 onto your

I had removed this, and had to download it, and run it again, it's necessary
for the update.

I went to Microsoft site to find this, it wasn't popping up in window's

I clicked on downloads, typed the info in the search box, it popped up for

It is not a recommended pratice. If, for some reason, you lost power during
the update, it could possible do some damage to Windows or your computer.
This would only cause you more problems to have to deal with. So, please,

[JAWS-Users] Windows 10 can share WyFy password

2015-08-01 Thread Michael Boyd
I took this from another email that I read, and thought that it might interest
this list with all of the Windows 10 talk lately:

If you're taking up Microsoft on its offer of a free upgrade to Windows
10, you should know that the new operating system has a feature,

called Wi-Fi Sense, that automatically shares your Wi-Fi passwords with
others.

When Wi-Fi Sense is enabled, anyone you have in your Skype, Outlook or
Hotmail contacts lists — and any of your Facebook

friends — can be granted access to your Wi-Fi network as long as they're
within range. Microsoft added this feature to save users

' time and hassle, but as independent security blogger Brian Krebs put
it, some security experts see it as a disaster waiting to happen.

MORE: Windows 10 vs. OS X El Capitan: Why Microsoft Wins

Krebs and others worry about the potential for strangers or
untrustworthy friends being given access to users' home Wi-Fi networks.

Microsoft has tried to reassure them by pointing out that you have to
agree to enable Wi-Fi Sense every time you join a new network,

that those people to whom you grant network access can't pass along that.

In my mind, this is just like the Pwersonal Hotspot feature on the iPhone. It
does the same thing, making your WyFy available to people who you share it with
when they are in your area. I do not use this on my phone, and I will make sure
that it is disabled on my computer.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Want to cancel Windows 10 reservation

2015-07-31 Thread Michael Boyd
Here's some information for everyone who has not reserved their copy of
Windows 10, or who think that they want to cancel their reservation. I
thought that I was all set to get Windows 10, having reserved it when the
icon first starting popping up. Then today, I noticed that upon opening
Windows Update, I had 2 important updates ready for installation. Upon
checking to see what these were, I made note of the numbers of each. Then I
installed them, or so I thought. After the first install attempt, I then
clicked on Check For Updates again, and the same 2 updates appeared again. I
went through this process about 3 times, then called Microsoft
Accessibility. The technician, Barry, told me that there was an error code
there that JAWS was apparently not reading to me. He checked the code out,
and there happened to be a Fix-it for this particular one. He ran the
Fix-it, and it did indeed repair Windows Update for me. After again checking
for updates, I again received these same
2, plus 2 more which I had not seen before. They all 4 installed
successfully, and did not reappear again. However, after once again checking
for updates, I received a list of 141 important updates that needed to be
installed. This took about 4 hours to complete. Barry called me throughout
the afternoon to see where the progress was, and upon completion, we again
checked again for updates, but none were found. One of the 141 updates was
the Get Windows 10 update, and I was able to reregister to receive the
update for free, and I did receive an email notification that I had
sucessfully registered for the update. The email told me that when my update
was ready, I would receive a notification in my system tray that it was now
available for installation, and it would prompt me to do so. This morning,
someone had stated that if you had not registered for the free update, that
it is to late, but that is not true, because I did it today, and the process
worked well. Also, anyone worried that they might get the update without
knowing it through Windows Update, that is not going to happen. You will
first see the notification in your system tray telling you that it is
available first. I hope this helps some of you to better understand the
process.

Re: [JAWS-Users] need help!!! not able to get windows 10

2015-07-30 Thread Michael Boyd
According to Microsoft Accessibility support, it is not your option to
update when you want to, it will be available to you when it is time for you
to upgrade. There are so many people trying to upgrade right now, that the
servers are pretty well jammed packed with the requests. It depends on when
you res erved your copy, and which categotry you might happen to fall in as
to when you will receive your notification. There is also a factor of luck
in this as well. The systen picks some names at random and throws them in
the mix too. The first group who were specifically targeted to get the
update, are the people who took part in the Beta testing of the product, but
I was not told who would be next, I suppose it might be those of us who
reserved their copies. Also, the time frame for reserving a copy is not yet
over. It is not clear when it will end, but it will extend into the next
year for at least a while, and the free installations will cease on July 29,
2016. So, don't rack your brains out worrying about getting the thing until
it becomes your turn, or until someone notifies you that your copy is ready
to be installed. The purpose of entering your email address during the
reservation process was to be notified when the update was available for
installation by you. I was told that the bulk of the process should be over
within the time frame of a couple of weeks, so I suppose it could take that
long for some to get their copies installed.

here's the article I copied and pasted it

Many of you have written concerned that you don’t have that little
upgrade icon for Windows 10 in the lower right corner of your Windows PC.

windows-10-upgrade-symbol

So what’s going on? There could be several possibilities, so let’s run
down the list.

It could be that your device doesn’t have the latest Windows updates. You
need to have updated to Windows 8.1 and have all current updates. Windows
7 must have Windows 7 Service Pack 1 installed as well as the latest
Microsoft updates.

For Windows 7 SP1:

KB3035583

KB2952664

For Windows 8.1 Update:

KB3035583

KB2976978

Try running both critical and optional updates and installing them. There’s
a good chance you’ll see the icon then.

checkforupdatescharm

You’ll only see an upgrade option for Windows 7 Home and Pro and Windows
8 Home and Pro versions. If you’re running an Enterprise edition, there
won’t be a free upgrade. Also, if you’re running Windows RT, there’s no
upgrade.

Is your device part of a school or business network that’s managed by
administrator? You’ll have to check with the IT administrator about
upgrades.

If Microsoft thinks your PC might not be able to run Windows 10, you won’t
see the get Windows 10 app before July 29. They’ll enable the app after
that date.

There’s also a possibility that you aren’t running a genuine version of
Windows. The upgrade will only apply to genuine Windows versions.

windowsactivated

If none of the above apply to you, Microsoft does offer a fix, but it’s a
complicated one that I’m going to copy verbatim from their support site.
I do not suggest trying this unless you are very comfortable with
technology and doing something like editing your registry.

1.Open Notepad
2.Copy the following text and paste it into Notepad:

REG QUERY “HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\UpgradeExperienceIndicators” /v UpgEx |
findstr UpgEx

if “%errorlevel%” == “0” GOTO RunGWX

reg add “HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\Appraiser” /v UtcOnetimeSend /t
REG_DWORD /d 1 /f

schtasks /run /TN “\Microsoft\Windows\Application Experience\Microsoft
Compatibility Appraiser”

:CompatCheckRunning

schtasks /query /TN “\Microsoft\Windows\Application Experience\Microsoft
Compatibility Appraiser”

schtasks /query /TN “\Microsoft\Windows\Application Experience\Microsoft
Compatibility Appraiser” | findstr Ready

if NOT “%errorlevel%” == “0” ping localhost nul goto
:CompatCheckRunning

:RunGWX

schtasks /run /TN “\Microsoft\Windows\Setup\gwx\refreshgwxconfig”
1.Click File, and then Save As
2.In the File name box, change the file name to ReserveWin10.cmd
3.Then click the dropdown next to Save as type, and select All files
(*.*)
4.Select the folder you would like to save the file to. For this
example, let’s choose to save the file to the C:/Temp folder. Then click
Save.
5.Open an elevated command prompt. (From the Start screen or Start menu,
type Command Prompt in the search box, and then in the list of results,
right-click Command Prompt, and select Run as administrator.)
6.Finally, run the file from the location you saved to in Step 6. In
this example, you would type the following in the Command Prompt window
and hit Enter:C:/Temp/ReserveWin10.cmd

The Microsoft Compatibility Appraiser can take 10 – 30 minutes to run,
during which the script will continuously provide status reports that it
is running. Please be patient.

If the script is failing in an infinite loop, then you don’t have the
necessary prerequisite Windows Updates.

Hopefully one of these will work for you.

~ Cynthia

Re: [JAWS-Users] Office 2010 or Office 365 with Jaws

2015-07-30 Thread Michael Boyd

Hi Chris,

Both versions of Office work well with JAWS. In my experience, having used
both versions of Office extensively, The Office
365 seems to run more seamlessly than an installed version of either Office
2010 or 2013. When I was using either one of these versions, I would get
little glitches in some of the programs from time to time, and would usually
have to consult someone from an Office support group to get these resolved.
However, since subscribing to Office 365, Hone version, I have experienced
no problems with any of the included applications. It is currently installed
on 3 different computers, and as far as I know, they all work well. When one
considers what you get for the price, I find it hard to go wrong with this
subscription, and I believe that I will be using it for a long time. Since
it also includes free upgrades, subscribers will be getting Office 16 in the
near future.

Hello list,

Earlier this week, I grabbed a Windows 8.1 tower at a really good deal. I’m
waiting until the weekend to set it up, but wanted to ask those who may have
already had some experience with both versions of Office. Is there any
discernable advantage to using the Office 2013 cloud version offered through
the Office 365 Small Business plan or the standard disk instalation with
Office 2010? I’ve got a 2010 package with one system install available to
and am not quite sure if I should go ahead and load this version on to my
new system or if I should simply run the more recent 2013 cloud downloaded
version. This machine would be for my business anyway, so it’s not like I
have any plans on discontinuing my Office 365 subscription any time soon
either.

I’ll be using the latest Jaws 16and for the time being sticking with
Windows 8.1 until Windows 10 gets its first few bug fixing related updates.
If there are any differences in Jaws performance or accessibility issues
that may favor one version of Office over the other, I’d appreciate any
feedback.

Thanks,

Cristobal

Accessibility, and they confirmed that Windows 10 would be coming through a
Windows update, and that everyone would not be getting it on the first day.
In fact, it will take several days for all to get a chance to update to it
if wanted right now. Also, in yesterday's issue of the Flying Blind email,
there was a good article on How to Install Windows 10, and it covered
doing it from Windows 8.1 and Windows 7, the two processes are quite
different. From other material that I read from Freedom Scientific, it seems
that but for the Edge browser and the Mail app in Windows 10, Jaws and the
new operating system should get along very well at this time. Of course, I
do not blame anyone who wishes to wait for awhile before taking the
plunge.

These links that you have posted all refer to Windows Media Center, not
Windows Media Player. Windows Media Center, capable of playing DVD's and
streaming television, was last seen in Windows 7, and has not been a part of
Windows 8 nor 8.1. It has been available as an add on for these operating
systems, but at an additional price which as I remember, was not cheap.
Windows Media Player is still around, and I believe it will remain in
Windows 10.

Hi Kevin,

I am not sure if this will transfer your settings or not, but it will move
all of your accounts and messages, as well as any calendars and the like
that you might have. To do this you need to have the app data folder showing
in your Users folder, the one named Kevin or whatever. open the Kevin
folder, then App Data, now select and open Local, and do the same fowith the
Microsoft folder. Now, scroll down and find the folder labeled Windows Live
Mail, and either copy the entire folder, or open it and copy all of the
contents from it, and paste this onto a flash drive or an external hard
drive or something. When you get WLM set up on your new computer, just cop y
any single files into the same folder on the new computer, and for any file
folders that you copied, just copy the contents of these folders into the
corresponding folders on the new computer, The folder names may vary
slightly from one computer to the other, but they will be similar enough
that you will be able to relate one to the other.

AS for how your messages are displayed, you can always go into the View tab
on the ribbon, and see how everything is set and make notes on this to be
able to set the new computer up the same way.

corresponding folders on the new computer, The folder names may vary
slightly from one computer to the other, but they will be similar enough
that you will be able to relate one to the other.

AS for how your messages are displayed, you can always go into the View tab
on the ribbon, and see how everything is set and make notes on this to be
able to set the new computer up the same way.

Re: [JAWS-Users] one line column view

2015-07-25 Thread Michael Boyd

Kevin,

All I ever change in the View tab of WLM is the Message List dropdown, and I
make sure that the 1-line view is checked. This gives you the Senders name,
the subject, and the date and time that the message was sent. It also tells
you if the message has been read or not. This is the only change that I have
ever made to the way that my messages are displayed, and this sounds like
what you are wanting. You only have to change this once, and all other
folders follow suit.

Hi,
I believe you're referring to the one-line view for the message list view?
View by Columns is a different item. If so, this one-line view is the most
optimal for JAWS use. (I tried the two-line view, and results weren't
satisfactory. Contray to what one might have expected, some information I
consider important was excluded from it. Whereas it is there in the one-line
view. The ordering and the showing or hiding of columns is done in the View
Menu, View By Columns.

when I press the alt key to bring up the ribbon menu I right arrow right to
view arrow down then right to change how your messages are viewed. I arrow
down and there is column view unavailable I arrow back up execute change how
your messages are viewed. there are 13 choices I scroll down to the
thirteenth selection and unchecked it because I found I could not check
anything else when that’s checked. I then select if the message contains
people, if the message contains specific words in the subject and if the
message was sent on a specific date or something I don’t remember the
choices. I press enter and get an error so wlm won’t take the changes.

Re: [JAWS-Users] latest itunes and selecting individual songs

2015-07-23 Thread Michael Boyd
Highlight the first song that you want to copy. Hold down the Control key,
and arrow down through the song list. JAWS will be announcing everything as
unselected. When you find another sond that you want to select, press the
space bar, and it will also be selected. Go on through the list selecting
the songs that you wish to burn, and when finished, press the letter C while
still holding down the Control key. You have copied only the songs that you
selected.

Re: [JAWS-Users] setting user as Administrator

2015-07-23 Thread Michael Boyd

Hi Kevin,

If you are running Windows 8.1, tAdding a enew user has to be done by
selecting Settings from the charms bar, then Change PC Settings. Now select
Accounts, and then Other Accounts. Select Add and follow the prompts to
create your new account.

To make the new account the administrator, highlight the account name, and
change the account type from the account type drop down menu.

To remove the old account, highlight the account that you want to remove,
then tab around until you find the Remove button and click this.

All of these steps are done from the Other Accounts window found through the
settings charm as described above. If you have any other questions, just
post them, hth.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Recovering SSD

2015-07-22 Thread Michael Boyd

Hi Steve,

Yes, this is correct. I do not see the drive in either Disk Management or
This PC. I am not sure if it is showing in Device Manager, because I do not
know the name of the device, only the name that I assigned to it. Of course
I know the manufacturer and the model of the drive, but this rarely shows up
anywhere unless the drive is assigned thisas its name in This PC.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Defraging SSD's

I would like to share my experience with my Crucial 120 GB SSD. I had
created a Windows Recovery partition on this SSD, which reduced the
available space from its normal size of around 105 GB down to ony 32.1 GB.
As I did not use the drive for anything at the time, I simply stored it away
incase I ever needed it. Lately however, I did have nother need for the
drive, so I decided to remove the recovery partition from it to give me back
the full amount of available space on it, and I chose to do this by
reformatting the drive. So, I did this, and when finished, the drive was
cleaned of its contents, of course, but the available space did not return
to the 105 GB that I expected, it stayed at 32.1 GB. I then consulted some
articles on how to recover the lost space on the drive, and concluded that
the partition had not been removed from the drive, and I performed the
necessary action to remove it through disk management. Well, low and behold,
the entire drive disappeared from my drive list in This PC, and nothing I
have tried has been able to make the computer recognize the drive again.
When I plug the drive into the computer, I get the normal connection sounds
an such, but the drive is not appearing in the drive list. So, it seems to
me, that the drive is hidden in some fashion, and I am not surehow to go
about getting it to appear again. From what further reading I have done on
the subject, I believe it may be something in how the computer changed the
binary code on the drive, since any given empty drive should be written with
all zeroes, mine was apparently over written in some fashion with all ones
or a combination of both. In any case, I am now at a loss as how to recover
the drive if possible. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Defraging SSD's

2015-07-22 Thread Michael Boyd
Well to this point, I have not tried to recreate anything, and I honestly
cannot be sure that the drive is actually showing up in disk management. It
does have 4 drives there, and I only have 3 connected to my computer at this
time, including the internal drive, but I cannot identify which one is the
drive inquestion since the names are not what I am used to seeing. Also,
there are 2 Western Digital drives appearing in Disk Management, and I only
have one W D connected to the computer at this time. If you go into the
Details tab of the disk properties, and choose the Manufacturer, I have
never seen this say anything but Standard Disk Drives, which I have never
heard of, but it seems unlikely that all disk drives are manufactured by the
same company. I usually do not trust this type of information which is given
by the Windows Operating System. The actual brand name of the drive is
Crucial, so I am going to find out from them how their drives should appear
in Disk Management, Device Manager, or Devices and Printers. These are the
three places where I can find my drives listed outside of This PC.

Hi,

Tricky one, in disk management, if you remove the partition and then
re-create it, you should receive a wizard which will take you through
various steps, one is to assign a drive letter and another is to format the
drive, how have you got on with this?
