Re: [JAWS-Users] amazon accessibility question
Ted, If you go to the mobile Amazon site, which is the "accessible" site, at Http://www.amazon.com/access Personally, I don't like that site, as they often truncate the descriptions and reviews so that you have to click on links to expand those relevant areas. I've leared to navigate the regular site through judicious use of quick-navigation keys like finding lists, headings, tables, etc. Steve Lansing, MI - Original Message - From: To: Sent: Saturday, July 07, 2018 10:34 PM Subject: [JAWS-Users] amazon accessibility question Dear List: I am new to using amazon.com. When you go to amazon.com on top there is a link title accessibility or something like that. Go there. I do not use it because jaws works well with it. Using jaws 2018 and w10 and google. Works well with IE 11. -Original Message- From: tedlarson1...@charter.net Sent: Saturday, July 7, 2018 9:34 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] amazon accessibility question Dear List: I am new to using amazon.com. [JAWS-Users] amazon and amazon access sites.
i don't know about you. but with me i have to log off before i can switch between the normal and accessibility site. if i go to one site then type in the other without loging out it will automatically go to the last site i logged into the last time i used amazon. like i can log on to amazon.com/access. turn off the computer and type in amazon.com and it will still go to the accessibility site unless i logged out first. -Original Message- From: Judy Sent: Thursday, April 12, 2018 4:56 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Amazon Accessibility Issue Okay, Rebecca, this is Judy and I went to both the regular Amazon.com and the Amazon.com/access sites. I also usually use IE 11 but had trouble with it today but I've also had trouble using it at work so it may be a browser rather than an Amazon problem. I just recently used the Amazon access site to purchase a bunch of stuff with no trouble. Just now going to the regular amazon site, I got nowhere with the "your accoujnt" link. I tried it with IE and with Google chrome with the same results...nowhere could I find any links for payment options. So I then went to the amazon.com/access account and using google chrome I could do it. I agree that we should be able to use all sites the same as everyone else and not have a separate access site, but at this point in my life I am just happy when I can do what I need to do. So if you use that site and open the "your account" link you can then use H and go down through a bunch of headings. You want the heading that says "amazon wallet." The first link in that list says "manage your payment options" so open that link and then you can edit or delete cards, set up your default card to use etc. I hope this helps. Maybe they just recently made some changes, who knows. Re: [JAWS-Users] Amazon Accessibility Issue
Okay, Rebecca, this is Judy and I went to both the regular Amazon.com and the Amazon.com/access sites. The next step would have been to go to the link Account Options But that link was nowhere to be found on the page. She called the Amazon disability number and spoke with someone. She finally got the credit card information updated with their help, but as they saw, she, using a screen reader, did not have access to that vital link. Perhaps we, as screen reader users, are taken to another site, one supposedly more accessible? when the screen reader is detected, because the woman assured her that the Account Options Link was there for her, as a sighted user. The woman filled out a form for their accessibility team, but if we are currently unable to access information that was available to us before, as it certainly was, then this is an issue that needs to be addressed by Freedom Scientific working with Amazon. I'm posting this here to see if others too will be unable to get to the Account Options Link from the Your Account Page. If not, perhaps you too could call the problem to Amazon's attention. My friend and I are both using Windows 10, version 1709, with JAWS 2018 with the current March update. She's using Internet Explorer. I'm using the latest version of Chrome. Sounds like your friend has not yet set up any credit or debit cards. If they have not, then they would not have any payment options. Hi Rebecca/all, It may not be as relevant but I have problems with Amazon. This is a new computer I am using and wanted to reach my login page. I put in my userid, then password, and then I was prompted that they would need confirmation by me verifying the address, as the device was new. A code was supposed to have been sent, but, despite countless efforts and with all remaining mail traffic coming, I never received a mail from Amazon with the required code to insert. So, I am stuck with this. You have to be logged in or you can't get to that Account Options, as the Amazon Disability person referred to it, or to the Payment Options link. Even when I was logged in on the main page, I was asked to log in again when I pressed enter on the Your Account Link. It needs to know who we are to know what account info to access. Smile. We used to have three site options for Amazon: The main site, a really simplified site and one in-between. On this middle one, there was a link at the bottom to let you return to the main site. Those choices seem to have been taken away now. I think it's patronizing to automatically be sent to a site for screen readers, if that's what's happening. There are those who prefer the supposedly more accessible sites, but others not. And we as users should be in control of which to use. Smile. Re: [JAWS-Users] amazon research it problem and fix
One way to be sure is what it says at the top line. If it says simply amazon then you are on the site for screen readers. IF is says Amazon.com: Online Shopping for Electronics, Apparel, Computers, Books, DVDs more then you are on the full site. One thing you may want to try is deleting cookies. Re: [JAWS-Users] amazon again
Tamera, My wife and I both use Jaws. She just submitted an order and it worked as normal for her. I just submitted an order yesterday afternoon, and the only thing I had to do was to double-click the checkout button with the Jaws cursor left-mouse simulation numpad slash. I don't know if that methodology would work in Windows 8.1 since the review mode is different; and I don't have access to 8.1 as I haven't installed the upgrade on my older Vista laptop. (I'm sticking with Win 7 on the other boxes.) The other issue I had yesterday is updating the date on an expired credit card. In case anybody encounters this issue, here is a brief description and my resolution. Hopefully, Eric Damry can get a fix in... 1. If you need to update a Credit Card on Amazon, or I assume if you put in data for a new one, you will get a new screen. 2. There will be two menu buttons above the continue button. Going from the top, the first button will update the expiree year. 3. If you click on this button, it opens a bunch of years from 2014 through 2034 that are links. 4. When I entered on the correct link, in this case, 2018, and filled out the month in the same manner, I had no success after hitting continue. The month and year would show visited but the update would not get honored. 5. To get the update to work, I had to click on the first button menu for the year; double-click 2018 with the left-mouse, then open the second button menu for the month, double-click on 04 for April. Then, if I hit the Continue button, it would update the expiration date on my existing credit card. Hope this might help out others. I used Jaws 16 latest beta with IE 11. Re: [JAWS-Users] Amazon
Are you using the regular Amazon site or the other site which is Optimized for Screen Readers. On the regular site, Amazon has been fooling around with the layout of the site, and it has ben causing a lot of problems. You could probably check out easier through the Optimized site, but the shopping experience leaves a lot to be desired. Re: [JAWS-Users] Amazon!
Well, Amazon does provide a version of its web site that is optimized for screen readers. But it turns out that this site is actually the mobile version of Amazon.com designed to work with cell phones, that just happens to work reasonably well with screen readers. It's not as if Amazon went out of its way to make its web site blind friendly; it just worked out that way by coincidence. So technically speaking, Amazon.com is accessible, even though the screen reader-optimized version leaves a lot to be desired, as far as I'm concerned. At least JAWS doesn't crash or freeze when accessing this version of Amazon.com using IE or Firefox. [JAWS-Users] Amazon music pages
Hi, Used to be that on Amazon pages showing the songs on an album that the songs would be formatted into a table with the link to listen to a sample, the song, etc. as the colums. A while back this changed so that the same information is part of a list and not a table. Is there a way to get Jaws to read it as a table? I am running Windows 7, IE11, and JFW 15.
