2018-07-07 Thread Steve

Ted,

If you go to the mobile Amazon site, which is the "accessible" site, at
Http://www.amazon.com/access

Personally, I don't like that site, as they often truncate the descriptions
and reviews so that you have to click on links to expand those relevant
areas. I've leared to navigate the regular site through judicious use of
quick-navigation keys like finding lists, headings, tables, etc.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] amazon accessibility question

Dear List:

I am new to using amazon.com. From an AccessWorld article, I understand
there is a more accessible version of amazon.com. I went to what I
believe

is the accessible site but I cannot tell the difference between the two.
How can I tell if I have the accessible version? Perhaps I have the wrong
address. Here is the address that I entered:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/h.html

Thanks for any clarification. Regards: Ted Larson

When you go to amazon.com on top there is a link title accessibility or
something like that. Go there. I do not use it because jaws works well with
it. Using jaws 2018 and w10 and google. Works well with IE 11.

if i go to one site then type in the other without loging out it will
automatically go to the last site i logged into the last time i used amazon.
like i can log on to amazon.com/access. turn off the computer and type in
amazon.com and it will still go to the accessibility site unless i logged out

Okay, Rebecca, this is Judy and I went to both the regular Amazon.com and
the Amazon.com/access sites. I also usually use IE 11 but had trouble with
it today but I've also had trouble using it at work so it may be a browser
rather than an Amazon problem. I just recently used the Amazon access site
to purchase a bunch of stuff with no trouble. Just now going to the regular
amazon site, I got nowhere with the "your accoujnt" link. I tried it with IE
and with Google chrome with the same results...nowhere could I find any
links for payment options. So I then went to the amazon.com/access account
and using google chrome I could do it. I agree that we should be able to use
all sites the same as everyone else and not have a separate access site, but
at this point in my life I am just happy when I can do what I need to do. So
if you use that site and open the "your account" link you can then use H
and go down through a bunch of headings. You want the heading that says
"amazon wallet." The first link in that list says "manage your payment
options" so open that link and then you can edit or delete cards, set up
your default card to use etc. I hope this helps. Maybe they just recently
made some changes, who knows. Judy & Libby

I went back to Amazon this morning. My friend had gone all down the

Account Options.
She'd also had JAWS, as did I last night, search for the word

JAWS said it was not there.
This morning, after having read several List responses, I had JAWS search
for the word
Payment,
And again, that was not there.
My friend does not have
Amazon Prime.
Nor do I.
There was a link for managing one's Prime Account, but this brought me no
joy as a roundabout way of getting to
Account or Payment Options
Since I was told immediately that I did not have Amazon Prime.
Here is what I see when I go to the
Your Account

JAWS says there are 11 links.

Several people said they could reach the
Payment Options
Link using IE11, JAWS 2010 and Windows 10. This is what my friend is using.
But to test, this morning, I loaded IE11 and went back to Amazon. For me,
it made no difference. I got the same page with the information copied
above.
I've gone to Amazon from the link on my desktop, as well as from a Google
search, just in case that made a difference. It doesn't..
I wonder why some can access this and others of us cannot.
Since email addresses change, and the expiration numbers on credit cards
change every couple of years, or shipping addresses may change, we need
access to the account information page.
Admittedly it's got to be frustrating if results can differ, even when the
operating system, browser and screen reader version are the same, but this
is why I put this out on the JAWS Users' List to see if the problem my
friend and I are having could be replicated.
Thanks to those who responded, but if anyone is having similar issues, I'd
like to know, and Amazon needs to be alerted so that they know how
widespread the problem is.

Several people said they could reach the Payment Options Link using IE11,
JAWS 2010 and Windows 10.

Link was there for her, as a sighted user.

The woman filled out a form for their accessibility team, but if we are
currently unable to access information that was available to us before, as
it certainly was, then this is an issue that needs to be addressed by
Freedom Scientific working with Amazon.

I'm posting this here to see if others too will be unable to get to the

Account Options

If not, perhaps you too could call the problem to Amazon's attention.

My friend and I are both using Windows 10, version 1709, with JAWS 2018 with
the current March update.

She's using Internet Explorer. I'm using the latest version of Chrome.

You have to be logged in or you can't get to that Account Options, as the
Amazon Disability person referred to it, or to the Payment Options link.
Even when I was logged in on the main page, I was asked to log in again when
I pressed enter on the

It needs to know who we are to know what account info to access. Smile.
We used to have three site options for Amazon: The main site, a really
simplified site and one in-between. On this middle one, there was a link at
the bottom to let you return to the main site. Those choices seem to have
been taken away now. I think it's patronizing to automatically be sent to a
site for screen readers, if that's what's happening. There are those who
prefer the supposedly more accessible sites, but others not. And we as
users should be in control of which to use. Smile. JMO.

You have to be logged in or you can't get to that Account Options, as the
Amazon Disability person referred to it, or to the Payment Options link.
Even when I was logged in on the main page, I was asked to log in again when
I pressed enter on the Your Account Link.
Smile. JMO.

Hi, Rebecca.

I have the same experience as Dave. Note the obvious difference between
"account options," which I couldn't find, and "payment options," which is on
the "Your Account" page and which gives customers the ability to edit
payment details.

One other thought. Amazon recognizes my computer when I go to the website,

Amazon recognize your friend's system? Or does she need to enter a username
and password in order for the "Payment options" link to appear?

Rebecca,

Strange. When I go to "Your Account" I find a heading titled "Payment
Options" and under that a link "Edit or Add Payment Method"

There I get a list of all the credit and debit cards I've used, and the
ability to add or delete any of them.

A friend needed to update her credit card information. She went to the
Amazon website, to:

Your Account

And there she was stopped because the link she needed was not on the page,
or not that JAWS could find.

The next step would have been to go to the link

Account Options

But that link was nowhere to be found on the page.

She called the Amazon disability number and spoke with someone. She finally
got the credit card information updated with their help, but as they saw,
she, using a screen reader, did not have access to that vital link. Perhaps
we, as screen reader users, are taken to another site, one supposedly more
accessible? when the screen reader is detected, because the woman assured
her that the

Account Options

Link was there for her, as a sighted user.

The woman filled out a form for their accessibility team, but if we are
currently unable to access information that was available to us before, as
it certainly was, then this is an issue that needs to be addressed by
Freedom Scientific working with Amazon.

I'm posting this here to see if others too will be unable to get to the

Account Options

Link from the

Your Account

Page.

If not, perhaps you too could call the problem to Amazon's attention.

My friend and I are both using Windows 10, version 1709, with JAWS 2018 with
the current March update.

She's using Internet Explorer. I'm using the latest version of Chrome.

[JAWS-Users] Amazon Product Search Using Research It

2015-09-29 Thread Gerald Levy

Using JAWS 16 running Windows 7, I used the Amazon Product Search feature in
Research It to search for a specific product, namely Stauffer’s Animal
Crackers. Research It returned 5 results for this product, but when I searched
for it directly from the Amazon.com home page, I got more than 10 results. Is
there any way to expand Research It to show a complete list of search results
for a specific product using the Amazon Product Search feature? Or are
Research It search results limited to just 5 results? Thanks.

hopefully you can fix the sports scores soon.
if history repeats itself, hockey, (the last holdout), will go the way of

after a couple of games or so, that's usually when ESPN breaks the code so
research it won't work for hockey either.

that's what happened with football during this year's preseason.

This is slightly off topic but since you are working with Amazon you might
be able to address the following with them as I think I got nowhere. Amazon
has failed to update the Kindle for PC program so that it does not work with
with any Windows operating system version after Windows 7 for screen
readers. The regular Kindle for PC versions I found to not work. I spoke
with their tech support a few weeks ago and they took a trouble report and
I've heard nothing. I am not aware of any work arounds for this and as a
result I had to drop out of a book discussion group I was going to
participate in as I didn't have time to scan the book and it wasn't
available from any other sources. While there were drawbacks to Kindle for
PC it was usable. thanks.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Amazon site and product details

Hey gang,

I used to be able to review additional info about a product with JAWS on the
amazon site by going to links and then product details. That link is no
longer available so obviously they have changed it or called it something
else.
Last time I was on the site I found what they called it and went to it for
additional info. Today I can't seem to find or remember. Anyone help out
here?

Best,

Al

Hi Al.

Go to:

http://www.amazon.com/?_encoding=UTF8ref_=mw_access

type in what you are shopping for.
Press h, for heading, to look through the different results.
Press enter on the heading you want to look at.
Press h, until you come to , about this item.
down arrow one time to link description and press enter.
After you are done reading about that product press the back button on the
top of the page to go back to the results.

I hope this helps...

2015-08-18 Thread Shane Hecker
One way to be sure is what it says at the top line. If it says simply
amazon then you are on the site for screen readers. IF is says
Amazon.com: Online Shopping for Electronics, Apparel, Computers, Books,
DVDs more then you are on the full site. One thing you may want to
try is deleting cookies.

I hope it works for you. The way I figured out what was
going on is what comes up when bringing up the amazon site.
If you go to www.amazon.com, which site comes up? Is it the
full site or is it the site designed for screen readers? If
it's the one for screen readers, then research it won't
work. If it's the full site, it should work. When I first
had this problem, I mentioned that on one machine it worked
fine, while on the other it didn't. Figures since on the

Re: [JAWS-Users] amazon again

2014-10-11 Thread Steve
Tamera,

My wife and I both use Jaws. She just submitted an order and it worked as
normal for her.

I just submitted an order yesterday afternoon, and the only thing I had to
do was to double-click the checkout button with the Jaws cursor left-mouse
simulation numpad slash. I don't know if that methodology would work in
Windows 8.1 since the review mode is different; and I don't have access to
8.1 as I haven't installed the upgrade on my older Vista laptop. (I'm
sticking with Win 7 on the other boxes.)

The other issue I had yesterday is updating the date on an expired credit
card. In case anybody encounters this issue, here is a brief description
and my resolution. Hopefully, Eric Damry can get a fix in...

1. If you need to update a Credit Card on Amazon, or I assume if you put in
data for a new one, you will get a new screen.

2. There will be two menu buttons above the continue button. Going from
the top, the first button will update the expiree year.

3. If you click on this button, it opens a bunch of years from 2014 through
2034 that are links.

4. When I entered on the correct link, in this case, 2018, and filled out
the month in the same manner, I had no success after hitting continue. The
month and year would show visited but the update would not get honored.

5. To get the update to work, I had to click on the first button menu for
the year; double-click 2018 with the left-mouse, then open the second button
menu for the month, double-click on 04 for April. Then, if I hit the
Continue button, it would update the expiration date on my existing credit
card.

Hope this might help out others. I used Jaws 16 latest beta with IE 11.

2014-10-08 Thread Mike Boyd

Are you using the regular Amazon site or the other site which is Optimized
for Screen Readers. On the regular site, Amazon has been fooling around
with the layout of the site, and it has ben causing a lot of problems. You
could probably check out easier through the Optimized site, but the shopping
experience leaves a lot to be desired.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Amazon!

2014-07-23 Thread Gerald Levy

Well, Amazon does provide a version of its web site that is optimized for
screen readers. But it turns out that this site is actually the mobile
version of Amazon.com designed to work with cell phones, that just happens
to work reasonably well with screen readers. It's not as if Amazon went out
of its way to make its web site blind friendly; it just worked out that way
by coincidence. So technically speaking, Amazon.com is accessible, even
though the screen reader-optimized version leaves a lot to be desired, as
far as I'm concerned. At least JAWS doesn't crash or freeze when accessing
this version of Amazon.com using IE or Firefox.

What I would do in this case, is contact FS tech support about this, and
explain the problem, then I’d contact the world wide web consordium about
this matter, they are in charge of getting these companies to make there
website accessible for blind people like ourselves with screenreaders, and
especially for people with disibilities.

for downloading or say no thanks use the old downloader. I hope this helps.

[JAWS-Users] Amazon music pages

2014-01-03 Thread rhs
Hi,

Used to be that on Amazon pages showing the songs on an album that the songs
would be formatted into a table with the link to listen to a sample, the song,
etc. as the colums. A while back this changed so that the same information is
part of a list and not a table. Is there a way to get Jaws to read it as a
table? I am running Windows 7, IE11, and JFW 15.

Thanks
