I joined as a final year student in 94-95 and stayed a subscriber for a few years then left it for a LONG time and came back the summer of relegation to the 3rd tier. I did briefly pop into that bar in London in 1996 prior to the final against Villa and my list claim to fame is that I have indeed met Betty (I can confirm he is not a woman) but I suspect that due to the ravages of the devil's buttermilk at the time he doesn't remember me. I still think it's a huge pity - and unfathomable really - that people huff and leave the list over what is a flame war. I gotta say, Suarez's reasoning - according to The Guardian at least - is entirely plausible and the FA's punishment seems disproportionate to say the least. It's been a few years since I was in Barcelona to see a game, but unless it's El Clasico, there really shouldn't be a problem with tickets - not even for an Atlético Madrid match - as the Camp Nou is rarely fully sold out and the concept of away fans and travelling that far for a game is not so common in Spain. I'd also leave it to the week of the game itself and buy online with pickup at the ground, and I'd be surprised if you couldn't get any even if you left it to the Saturday morning beforehand. Never mind Barca, my advice would be to get a hotel that is NOT on Las Ramblas or close to it, as it's an unbelievable place for pickpockets. I would say that people are switching off from football due to any number of reasons: idiotic players, idiotic club owners, non competitive leagues, over exposure from Sky and of course the exorbitant ticket cost. Who the F**K can afford it these days? The recession is surely the straw that broke the camel's back. The young have been priced out of it for over 10 years, and now it's across all age spectrums. It's only this list and The Guardian's Fiver email that are keeping me up to date ok I exaggerate, I still watch a feed when The Mighty are on, but seriously that's it. years ago, i used to have the Sky Sports package (and the movies) but found that LUFC and the other top 4-6 club matches apart, I barely watched even 25% of what was on. They should do just PPV at a reasonable price for all games and scrap packages - but no doubt the marketing gurus have worked out that that doesn't bring in as much. Then again, my level of disillusionment on football is significant these days and am probably not typical (LUFC games apart). I have questioned the value of it before but after this match (and other things I've spotted) I think I will have to quickly revise my initial huge skepticism of the medium. I'm sure it'll be a much more valuable way to keep track of non-televised matches from those at the ground of course rather than the white noise of euphoria or doom like last Saturday. Hi, Just yesterday here in Vodafone ES, we had HTC downstairs in the lobby promoting their HTC Sensation (don't quite understand why as we all get free phones and usage here)and it's a HUGELY impressive phone. As for myself, I've never had an iPhone but have had a Mac for several years nowand I LOVE the HTC Nexus 1 (i.e. Googlephone, almost the same as the HTC Desire) that I've had for a new personal record of 18 months now. The Mrs has given me a b0llocking several times for constantly faffing about with it - particularly lately with the Murdoch scandal this last month! All the Apps I have have all been free, and have not yet actually bought one yet. My only tiny complaints are that Google Listen (for the podcasts) could improve, GPS and/or the jogging app seems to have been a tiny bit off, and of course there is the minor detail that Google KNOW everything now i.e. your are forced to get a gmail account and if you ever look at it you'd be amazed at the amount of your information is up there already - including your podcast history. The battery life as in all smartphones depends upon active usage i.e. it is the screen that runs down the battery, and I always have wifi and gps deactivated until I need to use them. The radio guys here say that the iPhone4 is unquestionably one of the worst phones for actual radio reception - can be notable with voice calls. For email - I only use it for personal email and I direct hotmail to gmail and it works well. Also TM Cell (the only network) doesn't have any roaming agreements with anyone so all my mobile connections don't work. Without having wifi/3G access the iphone (therefore also the ipad) loses a lot of its attraction! When I did live in the UK, I had the full Sky package - but watched NO movies EVER, and not even a quarter of all the football matches. The biggest factor is the distance from the local exchange to your house and what sort of service they can guarantee (and not just advertise) over that distance. I have just switched from a shitty 1.5 meg connection (due to distance from exchange AND only on a good day) with sky to a genuine 30 meg connection with BT Infinity and can't find fault with it. BT are currently delivering a 40meg connection to the local distribution (green) boxes via fibre in a lot of areas, I have heard a rumour that they might crank this up to 80meg next year. With BT Infinity you also don't need the adsl filters on other connected equipment, ie telephone, sky box, etc. It is worth checking if Infinity is available in your area and if you really hate BT I think that xen offer a similar service. I can't imagine in any way it being a concerted plan from KB nor do I believe that KB actively wants the club to remain in this division. Whilst there may be some delayed repayments/penalties for reaching the top division outstanding from the last move into administration, they would surely be dwarfed by the TV money that comes immediately, and parachute payments after. Plus, a club that size in the top league would immediately be snapped up by some multi-billionaire. The problem as someone has pointed out already is that the midfield can only go forward but cannot defend or boss the midfield. Add that to the car wreck of a back four - nothing more complex than that for me. I reckon we're probably sunk and will slip down to 7th or 8th minimum, or even worse if Leicester make a late charge. The success of the Damned United book remains a mystery to me: at least 50% relates to Cloughie's time at Derby which for me at least was a more interesting period i.e. players on strike etc than his time at LUFC. Furthermore, why bother write a book on Cloughie if you pick the lesser two of his three eras of Derby, LUFC and Forest. What he did at Forest was nothing short of a miracle. Taking advice form a German Archbishop on the quality of life is not to be recommended, in fact as a lapsed catholic I'd recommend ignoring pretty much everything they say as it always comes with a price. Yes and no… NONE of the big clubs, particularly the two spanish giants here are spending within their means.
