installing pbxinaflash on amazon ec2 demo

2013-03-25 Thread Michael Babcock
I don't know if anyone would want this, however i recorded a brief video/audio
recording showing that it is possible to install PBXINAFLASH, using amazon ec2
for free and accessibly. VIsit the following url:
http://empoweringtheblind.com/2013/03/25/install-pbxinaflash-on-amazon-ec2-for-free-and-accessibly/
and the video will auto play… it's 13 minutes long, and imo well worth your
time.

I speak Spanish. How many ways are there for accessing rotor? Depending what

  Anita,

To change language options, go into System Preferences by pressing VO-M,
VO-down arrow on Apple, and VO-down arrow until you hear System Preferences.
Once in System Preferences, tab over until you hear Language and Text.
Within this area, you can change the system language, which will change all of
the prompts used by VoiceOver. What language od you speak besides English?
Just so you know, you can also download many foreign language voices for
VoiceOver within VoieOver preferences (VO-F8). I can give you suggestiosn for
that if you need them, but changing your system langauge als oinstalls voices
for the language selected.

  Thanks,

  Harry

helpful for learning spoken foreign languages? Is there a Rotor option for

Hello Anita.

I just recently bought an I Mac after selling my 2010 Mac Book Pro. When I had
that Mac book, I upgraded it to 8 as it was 4 ram before. I did buy the proper
memory from Apple at that time. Now I have the I Mac and it has no DVD drive so
I have to connect a USB drive which I got from Apple when buying my I Mac. It
makes no difference to me if I have to connect this drive or not. It doesn't
matter what you do with your machine as long as you are happy with it and it
suits your needs.

Re: CD Slots.

2013-03-25 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

With increased access to digital downloadable media, I believe that Apple does
not believe that the need for built-in CD/DVD drives warrants their inclusion.
Apple seems to do this sort of thing ahead of the curve. They stopped putting
floppy drives into their computers back in the late 90s and others slowly
followed, but did follow. Regarding upgradable memory, the new MacBook Pros
and iMacs have memory that is solder to the board and thus is not upgradable.

Hi,

I think my problems with it have more to do with lack of ability than anything
else. Does it have to be open to let you know when tweets come in or can I be

tweets? Are there keystrokes that will help me be able to use it easier? I’ve
been playing around with it but it seems there’s a bit to rember so it’s been

I'd never go through Geeksquad.

I've literally had to basically hold their hands when it comes to Apple
products. Granted, they always do right by me once I tell them what needs to

know what Voiceover is, let alone, how to use it.

Why do you think when I got my Mini this last February, they screwed me over
like they did. I trusted they knew what they were giving me. Turns out, they
not only gave me a much older system, it didn't even have the specs I needed,
and from what I remember, it was a referbed which they didn't even tell me, and
it only had like, 128MB ram, and was running Tiger! Needless to say, I was
mother? effing, pissed out of my wits! Darn straight I took it back and told
them where to put the thing, and trust me, it wasn't where the sun shines
either. Needless to say, I wound up getting the mac I needed plus! they gave
me an extra year of warranty and even installed with my help an extra 4 gigs of
ram, that it normally didn't have for no cost to me at all. Oh! I raised holy
hell terror! OK, I could see if they'd given me a Mountain Lion system that
may have been a half year or year old unknowingly. Still would a been
unacceptable, but I wouldn't a made such a stink, but, come on! 1 28MB ram?
Tiger OSX 10.4? Give me a break! I wanted to slauder the guy who did that!
(Obviously, not literally.) I was irate though putting it mildly. Needless to
say, if I'm going to Best Buy now to pick things up, I have them open it in the
store after I give them my money, and if it's a computer or something, I
literally have them let me inspect it, there in the store, and I'll even in
some cases if in doubt have them hook it up, and let me boot the thing, and be
sure it is what they say it is. they don't like me always doing that to them,
but hey! I'm not getting screwed again. I'm sorry, and if they want my
business, they'll do it, and they do.

The bottom line is: I'd never! use their phone support. Not to mention it's
highly over priced.

I charge $15.00 per hour, and $25.00 per hour for after hours, but I'm not only
familiar with Voiceover, but I myself use it on a daily basis, and, even am
full Apple certified, as an authorized Apple trainer. Why spend several
hundred bucks when you could spend less than $100 for 4 hours of training/help.
Not trying to market nor plug my business or tell you to come to us instead,
do what you feel's best, but just know we're out here, and we're way way
cheaper. Plus, I don't think Geeksquad offers any money back guarantee, where
we on the other hand, do.

Chris.

I have access to Best Buy's Geek Squad tech support line that's open
24/7. Not sure if anyone else uses this option, and if so, are technicians as
knowledgable as this list? Would I be better off not going through their tech

All current Mac CD/DVD drives can burn CDs and DVDs. The process to do
that would need a lot more detail and depends on your source material
and what tools you are using to edit it. They do not support BluRay. Why
is a whole other interesting discussion.

Maybe I missed it but I didn't notice an answer to this one.

Mac laptops come with two types of displays. The Retina displays are
much higher resolution, to the point where the retina of the human eye
can't actually detect the individual pixels anymore. Of course the
Retina displays are also higher cost. Non-retina displays are all the
rest of the displays.

Is your quick Nav off? Then you can arrow up/down through your current buffer

Command+left and right arrows will move you between buffers.

Re: MacBook Inquiries.

2013-03-25 Thread Chris Blouch
There is Flash, the web browser plugin that lets you play the
proprietary Flash multimedia files often used to play videos or games on
the web and is usually inaccessible. Flash is also a type of memory
which, unlike traditional computer memory, does not lose its content
when power is disconnected. So those little USB thumb drives and stuff
are sometimes called Flash drives because they use Flash memory. Flash
memory has finally become cheap enough to be used for mass storage
instead of a hard drive. While it's still more expensive than a normal
spinning disk, it is also much faster and takes much less power. It
'should' also be much more resistant to issues from bangs and bumps
because there are no moving parts.

Solid state drive use flash and no moving parts, as opposed to
conventional hard drives. THis essentially enable them to operate
faster. If you're not doing anything too terribly intensive, it may be
difficult to see immediate benefits from going with a SSD.
Conventional hard drives are significantly more economical.

Hi,
There exists a multitude of configuration options for storage. I
believe you're talking about the macBOok pro line, the one with the
optical drive.
Off the top of my head, I believe it starts out at 500Gb and up for
hard drives. And then there are a bunch of SSD flash storage
options. Quicker seek time and no moving parts etc.

Hi there,
You would be far better taking advantage of the support technical and

As often as you desire, or $99 you can work one on one with someone. A

Re: Is Tune-Up Accessible?

2013-03-25 Thread Esther
Hi J.P.,

If you want to clear up duplicates, and want more than the iTunes Show
Duplicate Items feature, you can try Dupin Lite by Doug Adams ($7.99 in the
Mac App Store):
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/dupin-lite/id425268142?mt=12

If you want more power-user functions for managing duplicate tracks, rather
than concentrating on simply identifying and eliminating them, you can also
purchase Dupin for a $15 license from Doug's web site, although the few people
I've heard report feedback from to the lists have found Dupin Lite worked for
them. Here's the link to Dupin at Doug's AppleScripts for iTunes stie:
http://dougscripts.com/apps/dupinapp.php
If you forget it, just do a Google search on dougscripts dupin (where
dougscripts is one word).

The problem with using the Show Duplicate Items option in iTunes is that
while it identifies possible duplicate tracks in iTunes, you still have to go
through and examine each track one by one and decide whether to keep or delete
it, so it isn't a viable solution for most users who ask this question.

I haven't used this myself, but I know that this is accessible with VoiceOver.
I have used some of Doug's other AppleScripts for iTunes, including earlier
free predecessors to the Dupin package like Corral all Dupes. For your
information, back before iTunes was made fully accessible in early 2007, we
used to get around a lot of the accessibility issues by using AppleScripts from
the Doug Adams site, which offers these as donationware (free to try, but
suggests that you make a donation if you use these and find them useful).
Also, Doug used to keep a Missing Menu page where he'd put up scripts for
features that he thought ought to be built-in features of iTunes. (Many of
these were later incorporated.)

By the way, I read that the TuneUp software automatically tags every track as
Cleaned Up by Tune Up, but maybe this is no longer true? (The comment was
made 14 months ago). A lot of people seem to like this software for adding in
missing album artwork. I don't anything about its accessibility.

You can do a search of the Mail Archive site for this list to find answers to
this kind of topic:
http://www.mail-archive.com/macvisionaries%40googlegroups.com

For example, typing in iTunes duplicates TuneUp into the search text box and
pressing return would have immediately brought up my previous list post on this
subject.

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

If you found it in spotlight, in addition to the other ways already

Night owl should alert you if you have the boxes checked for new tweets, DM's,
and mentions. It's also nice as the notification center will alert you to at
least DM's and mentions.
Is your quick Nav off? Then you can arrow up/down through your current buffer
to read/reply. Presss enter to reply, and shift+enter to reply to all.
Command+left and right arrows will move you between buffers.
Hope that's enough to get you up and running. If you need more help, give a

Re: BestBuy Geek Squad.

It's both the tech support and repair service. I think you get 90 days
with the hardware purchase and you can, for a fee, extend that to 3
years. I usually don't do that for desktops but for laptops, which get
banged around a lot more, I've found AppleCare to be worth the money.
How much depends on what you bought.

Besides if you get AppleCare for your Mac, and when I got mine I got
an extension for two years, you can call that 877-204-3930 number if
you have a problem. And they already know about voiceover. In case you
don't know that is an Apple number. It is a number set up for blind

Thanks for your answer. That's really a way to do it.
In the meantime I found an easy to use Dashboard widget to simply tab the

Stop interacting once you've pressed the notifications button. Make sure you're

Night owl should alert you if you have the boxes checked for new tweets,
DM's, and mentions. It's also nice as the notification center will alert you
to at least DM's and mentions.
Is your quick Nav off? Then you can arrow up/down through your current buffer

To change language options, go into System Preferences by pressing VO-M,

change all of the prompts used by VoiceOver. What language od you speak
besides English? Just so you know, you can also download many foreign
language voices for VoiceOver within VoieOver preferences (VO-F8). I can
give you suggestiosn for that if you need them, but changing your system

Re: BestBuy Geek Squad.

2013-03-25 Thread Eugenia Firth
Hi again Anita
I don't know if Geek squad can do what they do with AppleCare in one respect.
One thing they can do is do what they call remote advisor. That means you go
into Safari, and you give Apple permission to look at your screen. You have to
have Internet working to do this. But they can tell you things like go over to
the right a couple of times to get where they want you to go. If you get it
working, which most of the tonic does, then it's as good as having a sighted
person looking at your screen at the same time. In fact I would rather have
Apple pet care doing this then letting my husband deal with my computer these
days.

Gigi

Re: BestBuy Geek Squad.

2013-03-25 Thread Eugenia Firth
Hi there again
I consider Apple Care to be like having an insurance policy on my computer in
many ways. Also, you can do things with AppleCare that are somewhat difficult
to do, and maybe impossible, if you have a Windows machine. I mean, Apple
wasn't going to tell me to call somebody else to deal with it.
Let me tell you what idea; I discovered a bug in Time Machine I guess. I have
been having a 1 TB drive on my computer for quite a while now. I also have a
braille display hooked up to my MacBook Pro. And I had a habit of putting it to
sleep by shutting the lid. There is a setting in preferences that you can set
to put your computer to sleep when you shut the lid. I have been doing this
with no problem, but one fine day I shut the lid, and Marbrissa back up, I got
a message saying that my computer had been restarted. And then I discovered
that my drive could not be accessed by Time Machine, which is a program on your
computer to do backups.

I had to call AppleCare. We ended up where you formatting the disk, and copying
my whole hard drive over to the
Back up drive. I had never done this before, and I am very glad that I had
AppleCare from my computer. When my time is up, I sincerely hope I get a letter
from Apple asking me if I want to renew it because you better believe I want to
renew it.

Besides if you get AppleCare for your Mac, and when I got mine I got an

problem. And they already know about voiceover. In case you don't know that
is an Apple number. It is a number set up for blind and or deaf customers to
call in for trouble. I've called it more than once and I can't say enough
 good things about it.

As far as I can tell, I have created my slideshow, added music, and chose the

I have tried various mouse clicks I know, I've tried the usual vo dragdrop,
I've tried copy paste, etc.

Please any tips are welcome! Lol, this tech girl is annoyed, I can't finish it

Hi Tammy,

Go to preferences in Night Owl with command+comma. Go to the toolbar, interact
with it, and navigate to the notifications button.
Stop interacting once you've pressed the notifications button. Make sure you're
on the notification tab, as opposed to the general tab, and you'll have options
of checkboxes you can check. 2 of those are for DM's and mentions.

Night owl should alert you if you have the boxes checked for new tweets,
DM's, and mentions. It's also nice as the notification center will alert you to
at least DM's and mentions.
Is your quick Nav off? Then you can arrow up/down through your current buffer
to read/reply. Presss enter to reply, and shift+enter to reply to all.
Command+left and right arrows will move you between buffers.
Hope that's enough to get you up and running. If you need more help, give a

Hi there
Basically, you should be okay now. The only thing you need now is to get
your end email:. I found it to be a pretty easy process.
You might try this. Press command and thespacebar. You should hear
voiceover say spotlight. Type in mail. Press enter. You will probably get
the message about setting it up. I can't remember exactly what from there
but I think you can follow the prompts. If you get into trouble type
command q to quit in any Macintosh program.

Hi Ricardo,
I tried searching your site for podcasts/tutorials on getting started
withmy MacBook Pro, however, things seem to be out of order. For example,
podcast 6 is the first thing that was found. Not sure if there's flash or
what could be happening, as IE is slow to load.
