I am using a 1:1 copy of my Music (before it was iTunes) library for LMS. I am using this because my Mac Pro has not to stay on and I also have another backup of the library. This drive is mounted read only to my LMS Pi (with piCorePlayer). So there should be no problem to use your iTunes library directly from you Mac. I think you can simply mount the start of your iTunes library (.../Media/Music) to your Pi and use that as the start for LMS. You don't have to use the Library XML path. But if you change something in your library you have to do a rescan with LMS. Depending what you changed (like changing tags of the music files) you have to do a full rescan. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Logitech Media Server 8.0.0 released!
Just switched my 4GB raspberry Pi4 from some other software to PiCorePlayer 8.1.0 this week - and it looks like LMS is at ver 3.2! Got it all set up even with the HyperPixel4 on top, and Material skin when I browse to it in Safari on my 2009 MacPro (Mojave), or with my iPhone or iPad. Got it working fine with Qobuz and some web radio services. Kudos for coding a really awesome player! My question is about connecting to a 2TB library of iTunes music that I have on the MacPro. I'd like to access that via LMS without copying everything to a USB stick, and the hassles of reloading and rescanning that on a regular basis. I've tried a couple of paths to the Library XML file and to the music directory but am not sure how to format the path to that server/drives and make music library access work. thewebgal's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=36239 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=113282 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

This system just gets better and better. Mine runs on my old WHS 2011 on an old Proliant Microserver. I need intel for Sugarcube which I still use. Mine updated to 8 automatically, although I did load one of Michael's manual builds after a crash a couple of years ago, and recovered my trackstat etc. I saw this thread and thought ooh this looks good only to find I've been running it since it was released ;) Must admit I did see Spotify was a little more integrated but didn't think it was a complete new release. The ports are set up as: ports: - 9004:9000/tcp And you try to access the instance on port 9004? Please note that the server must run on the same port as you map on the outside. This is not important for the web UI, but for the players: LMS would tell the players on which port to get the audio streams. As it only knows what port it's running on in the container, it would tell the player to connect on port 9000, where you've exposed 9004. The player wouldn't be able to connect this way. In the official image you can set the HTTP_PORT environment variable for LMS to pick up. -- Michael ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Yup, everything will be dependent on the speed of your LMS media. Try running h4testw (or similar) against the old drive, out of interest. It might just be slower, or it might be more fundamentally broken. A decent USB 3 drive on the Pi 4 runs like a rocket. I saw a 4-fold improvement moving from Pi 3B+ to Pi 4, partly from the faster processor, but also hugely from the faster USB 3 port. I had the same configuration, which makes perfect sense, but moved away from the ReadyNAS to a local 512GB USB drive for one reason - after a power cut, when power is restored, the Pi starts up, but the ReadyNAS needs manual switch on. The end result of this was domestic complaints after any power cut that "the radio isn't working". By moving to a self contained system, all this was remedied. It also gives even faster library scans. So, it's not the "right" distributed solution I had, but it works fantastically. I'm perfectly ok with not building new docker images with every small commit, I understand this is a lot of work and I don't need it, unless there is a critical bug. However, the status update message is somewhat misleading. I'm aware that I can suppress the check for updates or make it less often, but maybe a different check approach could be implemented for dockerized instances ? I'm using https://hub.docker.com/r/lmscommunity/logitechmediaserver if that matters. I think the decision to focus support and development efforts to version 8.x only is a sound one. But with regard to the issue of older plugins not maintained and the "max version" parameter in these, can we not simply delegate the decision to install these old plugins by means of a new preference setting that controls whether the "max version" parameter is honored or not? It is already possible to force an installation manually (after editing some file in the module). If the default preference is "honor the module setting" it would require a conscious (I hope) decision by the user to override it. Hmm... interesting idea. With a big red warning, well hidden at the bottom of the plugins page... Could you please start a new thread which outlines the idea clearly in the subject line? It might catch more attention than here. Thanks! -- Michael ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Logitech Media Server 8.0.0 released!
As I understand it LMS 7.9.4 is now just getting maintenance fixes. Nope, there will be no more updates to 7.9.4. My question is whether, in the long term, LMS 8 will be the only version being maintained. It already is. The reason I'm asking is because some plugins have not been, and may never be, fully tested under version 8, and I'm wondering whether to take the plunge soon and try to fix or bypass any issues that come up, or not. I don't think I 'need' any of the new LMS 8 features, as yet. Erland has discussed this quite extensively. But TBH: I believe that if a plugin has not been fully tested with LMS 8, as you put it, it hasn't been tested with 7.9 either. It's just been a smaller version change, and the install manifest had "7.*" as the maxVersion, because nothing bigger was thought of those years ago. These plugins are left to the community (or in the void). Give it a try. Most likely all you'll need to do is download and extract the plugin file yourself. And who knows? Somebody might take over ownership or maintenance of that plugin and will update the maxVersion string in the manifest. -- Michael ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Logitech Media Server 8.0.0 released!
Hi all. I tried LMS and piCorePlayer for the first time yesterday. It seems I timed it well, as I like to use docker to manage software like LMS. Once I'd discovered the official image it all went fairly smoothly (Google isn't giving the page on docker hub enough visibility yet). The only problem I had was the feeling that my container wasn't running LMS at bootup. Port 9000 wasn't open for a while as there was a delay while the start-container script ran chown on /lms. So for a while I was trying to debug it, and had I not known how might have concluded it was flaky, rather than busy. A message on stdout explaining you should wait (it'd show up in the docker logs) would fix that though. I'm seriously impressed with the architecture (hats off to Logitech for that I guess), and the fact that everything just works. It did take me a few hours to work out what the moving parts are, but once I'd worked that out it was fairly smooth. So thanks all, it's a cracking project. I'm also very pleased that piCorePlayer runs so well on my old model B+ pi. I bought it years ago to build a streamer but didn't really enjoy Rune or Volumio, and when Volumio stopped booting I stopped using it and haven't had a streamer in my hi-fi for years! So this is all rather exciting. Next step is to investigate what to build to get other players in my other rooms... :-) gma's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=71039 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=113282 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

The BBC Listen Again feeds used by BBCiPlayer seems to have been shut down. I have assumed it is permanent as it has been a BBC intention for a long time. So BBCiPlayer can only play LIve streams. No "Listen Again" functionality. BBCiPlayerExtra can play programmmes from Genres, A-Z and Podcasts but the Station menus are also affected by the feed shutdown. BBC Sounds uses a newer API and seems to be best way forward as it can be synced with BBC Sounds usage on other platforms. You need to be registered with BBC Sounds web site to use the plugin. BBC Sounds plugin is is new and so functionality is still been added. ShairTunes2 (fork) also emits a log message: Argument "" isn't numeric in addition (+) at /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/ShairTunes2W/Plugin.pm line 389. -- Stefan Bellon ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

But because nobody commented on those two points I asked, I assume there does not exist any documented information? 1) Is there any guide/wiki explaining the changes and migration prerequisites to take care of? 2) Is there somewhere a plugin compatibility list, either mentioning the ones that do work or those that don't? -- Stefan Bellon ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Ok. I changed the media-folder to the changed CD. LMS made a complete scan and that was fast: Ok, so it's not the files. What is confusing me the most is the seemingly inconsistent behaviour. Once the time is spent reading the files, once it's the FTS index creation. I'm wondering whether there's a problem with one of the file systems. So, I realized that there's now a 8.0 version "officially" out - which even already has Perl 5.32 supplied. Now, do I have to take special care regarding migration? Is there somewhere some guide I could read? Or is it as easy as going to http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/?ver=8.0 and just installing the latest .deb from there and it will just work? TIA. What if you scanned these new folders only? That was the first problem yesterday when I tried to scan only the new and changed files. After 1,5 hours LMS could not be reached and nothing happened. So I gracefully shut down the Pi and restarted it to start a complete scan which worked so long. Are you saying the scanner got stuck for 1.5h when you configured only this one folder to be scanned? You could also enable logging for the scanner to see whether you could further down where the time is spent on. I think I have one CD left, so I could start it again later with this setting. You mean I have to choose "Informationen" or "Debuggen" for "(scan) - Alle Scanner-Informationen"? That'll give you a huge scanner.log file. Start with scan.scanner alone. This already will give you more information than you'd want to digest :-). -- Michael ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

I then started a complete scan and again after a few minutes the webpage is not longer reacting. At the beginning I saw that 1 songs are read but then it is not going any further. However, my Squeeze Pad was picking up my old Library D:\Music\iTunes/iTunes Media\ Music. Which was ok until I riped another of my CD's & it wasn't in that Library- but in D:\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media. Why, neither me nor my Tech could work out why. So I added that to my Media Folders in the LMS- so then the Squeeze Pad had the Old Library- with its playlists, the retrieved Library with the added Ripped CD's- but this was a pain as I cannot update the old Library & iTunes refuses to look at it! Now, the playlists have disappeared totally from the Squeeze Pad. I had over 200 Playlists that I had made over the last 5 years- it would be devastating to lose them. I have the current Library backed-up on both a Hard Drive & a NAS Drive (The NAS Drive is stored at work & I up-date it monthly) Im now at a loss about what to do to get the Squeezepad to read the Playlists. 11thNAMR's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=60302 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=113282 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
