Problems with SM and Hotmail

2008-12-14 Thread Monica
I can´t log into my Hotmail account any longer using SM (1.1.11). I get
an error message telling me that my browser isn´t supported. It of
course works with IE, but who wants to go there...

Why can´t SM 1.1.11 work with Hotmail?

webmail for SM1.x works. You just need to install xsidebar to get
 access to the settings: http://users.skynet.be/fa258499/extensions.html

I don't know if this works for SM2 though.

Wouldn't touch it (Gmail).

Got the Webmail working (thanks PPtPH); figured out that I'd installed
SeaMonkey (linux) on this machine using the 'standard' sudo
(superuser/root) commands... which the default SM script _always_
requires you to do if you install in the script's default directory
/usr/local/seamonkey.

Anyway, I reinstalled SM in my home directory, removed the /chrome/.jar
files for Webmail & Yahoo, reloaded the Webmail .xpi's and restarted SM.
Working great in SM 1.1.14.

it depends on the website. Some program it so wmp opens within SM, and
others program their sites to wmp opens separate.

P3H, Thank you for your reply. I need to point out that I have listened

Need a "Browser Compare & Relations Info" (BCRI)

2008-12-14 Thread INFO WG
RE: << Concerning Firefox and presumably SeaMonkey security >> and somany
other similar questions and needs

With the need to know and compare Firefox and SeaMonkey 1 and 2 in areas of
security, add-ons, common / not common settings, browser ID / detection, etc.

Why not have a "Browser Compare and Relations Info" (BCRI)(for lack of a better
title in my head eight now)section at the Mozilla SeaMonkey web site added that
concentrates on adding in, then updating, that area, dating each entry, making
sure each entry gives enough information on the topic, system in use, SeaMonkey
version and so forth ?

It would certainly help out, as repetitive questions here would be minimized,
and clearer or longer answers reserved for the BCRI section. This BRCI would
assist ALL of us, SeaMonkey neophytes to Sea-soned Monkey-ists and technical
guru staff.

ALTHOUGH we of course still need to relate many comments here in the
support-seamonkey message forum area, so one area should not replace another,
nor need to, but instead add a core, central zone that people in the message
forum area can direct ourselves and others to with a simple mentioning of the
BCRI page URL.

Forwarding a message problem

2008-12-14 Thread Ken
I have my Email settings set to forward messages INLINE. Yesterday I
received a message that I attempted to forward to another person, and
all the graphics and text on that message were stripped when forwarded.
Not understanding why (when other messages did not do that), I sent
the message again, but this time sent it as an ATTACHMENT. The graphics
of the message were in tact that way.

Although it may be of no significance, the original message I received
had been forwarded to me as evidenced by the vertical line on the left
of the text and graphic. Is there some setting I have failed to set so
that forwarded messages I receive go out the way they came in?

I am using Seamonkey 1.1.13.

You may be set up to recieve attachments inline, but
you also need to be set up to send messages in html
format. When sending, do you see the Insert and Format

It not important how many different flaws there were in any given

sort of. You need to set yourself up in html mode:
Edit, Mail & Newsgroup Account Settings, select the
account you want, then under Composition & Addressing,
on the top right, the very first box should be checked.

Another way is the quick toggle. Hold down the shift

you're composing a message, and if you see the Insert
and Format menu, then you're in html mode. If you
don't see them, then you're in text mode.

Moving from one SM version under W2K-Pro to a newer SM version under XP-Pro

I have located and copied the abook.mab and history.mab files and assume

The next thing I would like to move is the file that contains all of the

If there is any other bit of historical information buried in SM that I
should be thinking of moving, please don't hesitate to tell me. I have,
however, already successfully moved all of the mail files themselves.
There was a thread back in October, more-or-less, on this subject but I

the *.mab are the correct files. Do you need your

As for the passwords, you need an 8 digit file that
ends in .s [something like 12345678.s] and key3.db

Foxit Reader problem

2008-12-14 Thread ST

Hello,

I uninstalled Acrobat and installed Foxit reader. It works fine as a
separate program to view PDF files, but there is a problem if I click

on a pdf file from a Seamonkey window.

It starts to download, but then freezes. A popup will come up with a
'Server Busy' heading. The message says: The application cannot be
completed because [file name] (application/pdf object) Seamonkey program
is not responding.

Then there are two boxes below that can be clicked. One says Switch
[which when clicked does nothing] and the other says Retry. If Retry is
clicked, it goes away for a few seconds then the original popup comes
back. There is a Cancel button also, but that is grayed out. I can't
close the program after that without using the task manager. The task
manager shows Foxit as being loaded, but if I kill that program I'm
still frozen and have to kill Seamonkey also.

I tried adding Foxit to the helper applications but that did nothing.

Suggestions would be appreciated?

Thanks,

HenriK,

Peter partially answered your question on password moving.

There are three files you will want to copy and move with SeaMonkey
completely closed down.

1. .s
2. .w
3. key3.db

Before you copy and paste the old files rename the new files with
something like nnnOLD.s in case you need to revert to the original
files, later you can delete the OLD files.

Once you have to new files copied and pasted you will need to open the
file Prefs.js with an ascii text editor and search near the bottom of
that file for an entry string like:

user_pref("signon.SignonFileName", ".s");
user_pref("wallet.SchemaValueFileName", ".w");

Change the "n" values to the same numbers as in your new file names.

The ".s" file is your saved passwords, and the ".w" file is your saved
form fill in data.

Hello,

It's all sites. I even tried File-Open File and it did the same thing.

It started to load then stopped and the same popup came up. But, again

it works correctly in ie 7. And, it works if I just use the Foxit Reader

to view a PDF file from one of my folders.

I have Foxit Reader 2.3 installed as the program to use for pdf files.
I have removed Adobe Reader since Foxit suits all my purposes better and
is faster. No problem on 1.1.14 or previous versions.

Are you sure you configured the helper application preference properly?
Correct location for Foxit? Correct extension? Left the 'plug-in
finder service' box unchecked? Closed and then re-opened SM after the
changes?

Sure its commendable that a bug fix is prompt, but is no substitute
to the bug never getting past design, and internal quality control
into the released version.
Which do you consider preferable: a bug fix, version upgrade a day;

the importance is how much likely are users to be harmed, i.e.
severity of the flaws and getting the fix out to users.

Non organizational users, i.e. without centralized upgrade,
are unlikely to upgrade promptly. Heck, even centers with
dedicated computer administration, are often behind on versions

Justin also has some very valid points there as well.

Associating and Starting SeaMonkey Composer for editing HTML docs

2008-12-14 Thread steveinseattle
I'm on Mac OS but I don't think this problem is limited to that. My
question is, what is the best way to get a running instance of Mozilla
Composer open an HTML document for editing?

When I use the command line option:
  seamonkey-bin -editor file.htm

I get a dialog telling me "A copy of SeaMonkey is already open. Only
one copy of SeaMonkey can be open at a time.".

Sadly, the -remote command set does not seem to include an editURL
option. I'm not even sure that its supported with SeaMonkey on Mac OS
X since I can't even use the openURL Method (I get the same Mozilla
already running error above).

Isn't there a way to get a running instance of SeaMonkey to open an
HTML document w/o having to resort to AppleScripts invoking menu
items?

-- Steve

p.s. Ideally SeaMonkey would just create file associations so that
HTML documents could be opened with composer from open-with menus in
Mac, Linux and Windows.

switched all the paperwork stuff to Linux. ( Mandriva 2009.0 but that is
not critical )

Seamonkey works fine apart from a few quirks on hot keys which have been
covered already, but increasingly I'm finding that the reasons for USING
Seamonkey are being eroded. On windows things do not integrate together
nicely, the Calendar and Address Book are still separated from one
another and hot keying between links in messages and notes is lacking.

On Linux there are still a few rough edges, but the environment seems a
lot more 'interoperability friendly', unlike windows? That said, I find
that I still have problems with Seamonkey talking to other things, and
the same with Firefox and Thunderbird. While KDE gives me a nice 'flat
playing field' when it comes to integration. ( Although KDE4 is about as
user friendly as Vista! :( )

I think I can understand why the drive to split up Mozilla came about
since many developers do seem to be working on Linux rather than
Windows, and the same applies across many projects. The Windows
requirements are somewhat different to those of Linux, but I don't think
that the current developments are being 'productive' as they could be?
The Seamonkey development can't address the gaps left by the original
breakup, and the drift to Firefox being totally isolated seems to be
increasing? So are we reaching a point where a radical overhaul of the
roadmap is inevitable?
