Could you please advise me of why when I open a PDF that our school sends out,
it reads like there is a period at the end of each word. It is making me crazy.
It just started this behavior after the last update of Window Eyes.

A microsoft word problem

2016-09-02 Thread Smith, Veronica via Talk
So here's what happens, when I select a document that I already created and hit
enter to open it, it comes back and says, my title then pull down. At that
time, it will not open the document at all. I can, however, force it open by
pressing F5, then it seems to straighten itself out.
Do you have any ideas what might be happening?

Hi, Larry. I tried the extended dictionary app in its early version and
didn't like it so I uninstalled it. I am not trying to discourage you from
trying it out. No, there is no license fee. I can't see what sense it
would make for an app creator to allow users of Window-eyes to be able to
download free apps and then to charge a license fee. I understand that you
wish to be careful. I will download free apps when available, but I
wouldn't want to download a free app and have to pay a license fee .

I see that a license is required for use of this app. Am I to understand
from this that there might be a fee associated with acquiring said license,
and if so, how much.

This sure looks like a most useful app, and might be worth paying for,
though I wouldn't want to give anybody any ideas .

Anyway, looks rather exciting.

Pronunciation dictionary

Now I have a new problem, it used to be and I am assuming it should still be,
when you want a word spoken a certain way, you go to pronunciation and tab to
original and type in the word, such as Mr. Then you tab to new word and you
type in mister. In my computer it reads the first only as M R. What am I

I can't help but send this message here. It is . . . something, but does
resonate with this topic.
Read and throw away, or ponder it, or store it away, but it is,
fascinating nonetheless.

*Welcome to the exponential age!*

In 1998, Kodak had 170,000 employees and sold 85% of all photo paper
worldwide.

Within just a few years, their business model disappeared and they
went bankrupt.

What happened to Kodak will happen in a lot of industries in the next 10
years - and most people don't see it coming. Did you think in 1998 that 3
years later you would never take pictures on paper film again?

Yet digital cameras were invented in 1975. The first ones only had 10,000
pixels, but followed Moore's law. So as with all exponential technologies,
it was a disappointment for a long time, before it became way superior and
got mainstream in only a few short years. It will now happen with artificial
Intelligence, health, autonomous and electric cars, education, 3D printing,
agriculture, and jobs. Welcome to the 4th Industrial Revolution - The
Exponential Age!

Software will disrupt most traditional industries in the next 5-10 years.

Uber is just a software tool, they don't own any cars, and are now the
biggest taxi company in the world. Airbnb is now the biggest hotel company
in the world, although they don't own any properties.

Artificial Intelligence: Computers become exponentially better in
understanding the world. This year, a computer beat the best player in the
world, 10 years earlier than expected. In the US, young lawyers already
don't get jobs. Because of IBM's Watson, you can get legal advice (so far
for more or less basic stuff) within seconds, with 90% accuracy compared
with 70% accuracy when done by humans. So if you study law, stop
immediately. There will be 90% less lawyers in the future, only specialists
will remain.

Watson already helps nurses diagnosing cancer, 4 times more accurate than
human nurses. Facebook now has a pattern recognition software that can
recognize faces better than humans. In 2030, computers will become more
intelligent than humans.

Autonomous cars: In 2018 the first self-driving cars will appear for the
public. Around 2020, the complete industry will start to be disrupted.
You won't
want to own a car anymore. You will call a car with your phone, it will
show up at your location and drive you to your destination. You will not
need to park it, you will only pay for the driven distance and you can be
productive while driving. Our kids will never get a driver's license and
will never own a car. It will change the cities, because we will need
90-95% less cars for that. We can transform former parking space into
parks. 1.2 million people die each year in car accidents worldwide. We now
have one accident every 100,000km. With autonomous driving that will drop
to one accident in 10 million km. That will save a million lives each year.

Most car companies might become bankrupt. Traditional car companies try the
evolutionary approach and just build a better car, while tech companies
(Tesla, Apple, Google) will do the revolutionary approach and build a
computer on wheels. I spoke to a lot of engineers from Volkswagen and Audi;
they are completely terrified of Tesla.

Insurance companies will have massive trouble because without accidents,
the insurance will become 100x cheaper. Their car insurance business model
will disappear.

Real estate will change. Because if you can work while you commute, people
will move further away to live in a more beautiful neighborhood.

*Won't need as many garages if fewer people have cars, so living in the
city may become more attractive as people like being around other people.
That won't change.*

Electric cars will become mainstream until 2020. Cities will be less noisy
because all cars will run on electric. Electricity will become incredibly
cheap and clean: Solar production has been on an exponential curve for 30
years, but you can only now see the impact. Last year, more solar energy
was installed worldwide than fossil. The price for solar will drop so much
that all coal companies will be out of business by 2025.

With cheap electricity comes cheap and abundant water. Desalination now
only needs 2kWh per cubic meter. We don't have scarce water in most places,
we only have scarce drinking water. Imagine what will be possible if anyone
can have as much clean water as he wants, for nearly no cost.

Health: The Tricorder X price will be announced this year. There will be
companies who will build a medical device

Hello. I download the latest version of iTunes 12.4 which came out on
Monday, have noticed the changes in the menu bar you can get to it by
hitting the alt key on the keyboard but window eyes does not tell you
what part of the menu bar you are on. Instead you have to hit the alt
key on the keyboard then depending where you are at you have to use the
either the left or right or the up or down arrow keys on the keyboard
and once you start doing that window eyes does say context menu it does
open up in to the menu then once that happens then using the left or
right arrow keys you are in the menus you just have to know where you
are at to figure out what part of the menu bar you are at since the main
part of the menu bar does not speak anymore. I wonder if the iTunes app
has to be updated or something. Other then that I can still use it it is
just a little bit tricky but it is due-able.

2016-05-16 Thread Smith, Veronica via Talk
Here's another problem I am having, using Windows7, Office 2010, latest WE,
when I am using Fire Foxx, if I want to go to a previous page, I have always
hit alt left arrow and it has always gone back a page, but now, now it messes
with Window eyes and it turns off, well the whole system seems to freeze up.
Irritating to say the least. Is this something on my end, well it just started
after we installed that stupid Norton. I'm not sure if I should lay blame
there, as now I don't have that virus protector but I still have the problem.

Still no attachments

2016-05-16 Thread Smith, Veronica via Talk
A reminder of what I am using, Windows 7, Office 2010 with the latest WE.
My husband put Norton on my computer and then I could not get attachments.
Chris suggested I get rid of Norton, which I did and get AVG, which again I
did. However, I still cannot open the attachments in email, but I can save
them. But something is still not right. Any suggestions of what I might have
to do.

So recently I found out that my Norton Virus protector could be the cause of

choice for me?

a brand new Del. The only reason I had Mcaffee on it to begin with is it cam
with the PC and I got a one year free subscription to it. I only used it 1
1/2 months before I got virus on my PC. I had the paid version ofr AVG on my
Win 8 PC, so I went ahead ans sprung for AVG for the Win 10 pc and now mo

From within the window of the open email message, you should be able to open
the File menu, arrow down to Save attachments, and press Enter.
This should open the standard browse to lacation dialog.
I know that, normally, Control-Alt-A is the recommended method, but I
thought I would recommend the least complicated method. Smile

Veronica,
I think what you want is
Diagnostics.
It is in your list of running apps
Just press alt from the Window-Eyes control panel and right arrow to apps.
Down arrow to Diagnostics and press enter.
Refresh accessibility libraries is the second one down.
Rebecca
And press enter.

I cannot speak to why this occurred for you, as I've never had good luck with
the spellcheck window. You are better served to use the alt semicolon and alt
apostrophe spell check commands in Outlook just as you do in Word. These are a
Window Eyes function and I find it much more useful. The reason I leave my
Outlook spell check window enabled is to remind me to spell check (in which
case I just escape out of the spell check window and us the above commands) and
because the spell check window will catch errors in my subject line that the
window eyes commands will not.

Veronica,

What antivirus package are you using? I ask this because there is one that
eats things it's not supposed to. Web Root Security Anywhere is one package to
avoid like the plague as that package is not accessible and it does eat things
its not supposed to. By that, I mean it removes components that you don't want
removed. WE is not what they call white-listed which means that it is approved
and the software won't touch components of WE.

We're having a problem with our K1000 software on our main computer and we
think the aforementioned software ate a component it wasn't supposed to eat.
The aforementioned software has been removed from both machines in this house
with the help of the Geek Squad at Best Buy. Don't take this software in the
first place and you can avoid major problems.

All this is to illustrate why it is important to know this information.

Thanks.

Karyn Campbell, Illinois USA, karyn1...@gmail.com and likely Viper Antivirus
on both machines.

RE: updating aps

2016-04-29 Thread Smith, Veronica via Talk
I have a problem, it is similar to something I had before as I cannot read
attachments again. But the last time I fixed my prob by going to the App
manager, hitting enter and then arrowing up to WE Diagnostics. I hit enter
here, then arrowed down to Refresh libraries.
But now, now, there is no option for WE Diagnostics, it is not there, and I
cannot find it in Utilities. Help! Do you have any suggestions on how to find
my attachments or how to fix it?

Until last week, when there was an update to an ap,p I used a box popped up
telling me which apps needed an update. Apparently this changed and now I have
an auditory signal that an update is available but the scfreen that offered me
choices and mentioned which update needed an update has vanished. Any
suggestion as to how to get back the tone and voice signal that includes what
has an update available would be appreciated. I’ve spent a fair piece of time
looking on my own and have decideed asking would be more time efficient.
Thanks.

Hi,

In addition to holding down the shift and pressing down-arrow as long as
needed, you can also hold down the shift and use page-up or page-down; you
can also position your cursur to any point in the text of a document, and do
ctrl-shift-home, or ctrl-shift-end to get all from cursor to the beginning
or end. Then execute your ctrl-c or ctrl-x. Ctrl-v will paste the
highlighted block as usual.

hello,

yes, I did know about using Shift and the Down Arrow, but this is quite
slow when needing to copy 3 or 4 pages of a 15 page document.

I was thinking there was another way to set the starting point of the
text to be copied, and then after moving the cursor to the end of the
text to be copied, another keyboard command is used. this Highlights
all text between these two points in the document. Once the block has
been highlighted, pressing CTRL-C then copies the entire Block to the
Clipboard. You can also Cut the bock from the document too by using
CTRL-X.

Anyone else have a guess as to how to set these two points in the
document?

Thanks,

Grumpy Dave

However if you are copying an HTML document, press F10 and the highlighter will
begin, arrow down to your stopping point. Hit F10 again and another menu will
open, it will say "copy text." Enter, then move to where you want it. Control
V will paste it.

Next, what do I need to change in the Window-eyes control panel if I want to

the document.

RE: My side or yours

2016-03-22 Thread Smith, Veronica via Talk
I just meant to mention it and have someone on the list tell me if they too
were having problems.
That was then, since then this past weekend, it actually worked. So I don't
know if the link was broken and now its fixed or what.

Well, it is definitely not my side as I have no control on downloads. Perhaps
you meant to send to wesupport? Or would you like everybody on the list to
attempt your download in which case you should send us the link you are having
troubles with.

My apologies in advance for not contributing any value to the conversation.

Hi Listers,

I have had enough doing battle with Windows 10 wanting to update my
system every couple of hours. So, it is time to stop it in its tracks
before I loose my cool.

A couple of weeks ago there was mention of a file in two formats to deal
with this pest. I thought I had saved the messages to a safe place but
now can't locate them.

Could someone please post the info once again so I can deliver this pest
a mortal blow.

Also some details on how to use the file would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Neville.

Hi I am using window-eyes 9.0 and windows 7.
How do you get the mouse keys in window-eyes to read in Firefox,
Thunderbird, and internet explorer?
I used to be able to do this.
Then I had Microsoft remote in to my computer and they had to do A
repair on windows and then didn't delete anything.
But now when I try to read with the3 mouse in any of the programs that I
stated earlier in this message.
all is I get is DING, DING, DING.
When I try

to read with the mouse keys in any of those programs.
I am soon going to upgrade to the latest version of window-eyes.
So then will that fix this also?

Hi Nick!
After emptying the folder with the CTRL-A go check the trash folder.
The messages that you just deleted should wind up in the trash folder
unless you have your system set to empty trash each time you exit
ThunderBird. Generally what I do after deleting mail from a folder is
exit that particular folder and then re-enter it and see iff there is
anything still there. Good Luck A Great Day! de

deleting unwanted messages

2016-02-09 Thread Smith, Veronica via Talk
Hello, I am positive you told me this once before, but I didn't write it down,
thinking this old brain would remember.
But, I do not.
What hot key do you use to empty the deleted folder or any other folder for
that matter?
Thanks in advance!

After deleting any messages I just hit the status line hot key. It tells
me how many were moved from the current folder to trash followed by
unread count and total count. So if I delete all it will say, moved x
messages from current folder name to Trash, Unread 0, Total 0.

Hello,

I once used I.E 11, but it crashes far too often.

I am now using Firefox, but have run into an issue, perhaps someone here
has a work around.

I'll be on a Web Page, there will be Links, I can Arrow down or up to
those links.

However, when I wish to choose one, Pressing the Enter Key does nothing.
Pressing the Space Bar and then Enter also does nothing.

Am I missing a Trick to get Firefox to activate or follow these Links?

Thanks,

installed it. Yet when I check the installed updates in the add or remove
dialog, there is no update showing as being installed today. When I checked
the package manager to determine which updates are running, I hear that the
app get update is version 1.2.5, but the apps shown as running display a
version number 1.2.4. Could somebody please tell me why the app get version
numbers don't match? And can somebody tell me which update was installed on
my laptop after I am certain I heard the tone notifying me of an update and
an update downloaded and installed?

hi
I have been using windows10 with no vision at all since it came out in
july of this year. I have been totally blind since birth and for a
totally blind person like myself windows10 is way way better and faster
and has even better accessibility than windows7 once you tweak one or
two things like set your default browser to internet explorer rather
than microsoft edge. and that is quite easy to do. windows10 is super
fast just like windows xp was and its even faster now that i put a solid
state hard drive in my computer.

I know this doesn't sound good. but microsoft has the habit of doing
this through windows update. I am running windows 10 on my laptop and it
runs great. I have no problems with windows 10. The best thing I would
do is take the check out of the windows 10 update, and download all the
other updates. And if you want to go ahead and download windows 10
latter on, then you can put a check back in the update and hit the

Sonya, one Caveat, this method only works in files where brows mode is
used, otherwise you can use the old shift+arrow keys to perform this
function.

At first, you might wonder why this should be so necessary, or at least
convenient. One way I find this method to be useful is when I wish to
select text from a web page, say from header to header or from link to
link. The F8 method locks the selection in place so that you don't have
to move manually through so much text in order to make that selection.
You don't even have to worry about accidentally losing your selected
text along the way, which can get quite frustrating. Instead, you can
just press the h or shift+h keys and voila, you have made your
selection, and you can once again press the F8 key where there will be a
dialog box with the option to copy the text to the clipboard where from
there you can copy your selected text to an editor or what ever. I
really hope the people at I Squared never do away with this new method
of selecting because it works so well, even though occasionally I forget
to press the button to copy selected text to the clipboard.

M Dorn asks:

I just replied about the I Devices mailing list and saw that it was
addressed to the original sender. However, I did not see that it was
also addressed to the list. I can see the logic for either but not
both. Anybody know why a simple reply would be addressed to both the
original poster and the list?

That is because of the way that AISquared has the email set up. I also think
that the posts should not be addressed to the person and the email list
both. This causes the person to get two copies.

When replying to the List, go into the to: box and delete either the persons
address or the email list.

If you delete the person's email, the message will go to the List and the
person will get it.

If you delete the List address, then only the person will get the message,
not the entire list.

Subject: OT Very Strange Thing Happened

I am visiting my daughter and family in NY. Everyone is asleep at 1:00 AM. I
woke up, got up and came into the dining room and turned on my computer which
was plugged in there charging the battery.

This loud burglar alarm type noise started. It was very loud. Sounded like a
car alarm in that it kept changing alarm sounds. Beeping, then steady tone
then other tones then back to beeping. It was so loud that I did not connect it
with my computer.

I thought that my daughter had an alarm system with a motion detector that they
neglected to tell me about.

Finally my son in law got up, staggered into the room half asleep and turned
off my computer. He read something on the screen but I was so shocked that I
don’t remember what it was.
I can’t imagine my computer making such a racket.

Has anyone else ever encountered such a thing? I’ve had computers since about
1988 and never had this happen.

I have a Del lap top with Win 10, WE 9.2.

Hey guys,
Well, having not used adobe in so long, to say i'm discouraged is a huge
uhnder statement. Why can't this thing just work? What am i doing
wrong, i an not navigate this document to save my life.
Guys correct me if i'm wrong, but i'm assuming the following.

1 to get to the top of any pdf document you do control and home
2 to navigate throughout a document you use the up and down arrows and
control page up and control page down. Someone mentioned something that
to get to a list of bookmarks in a document, you hit f6, and all my
adobe is saying is blank page edit. I'm hitting control tab, nothing.
What is going on here? This shouldn't be this complicated. Any ideas?

Hello,

The New version of Browse Mode at least on my system, tends to be a bit
quirky.

Sometimes it works as it should, and other times, as you say, you need
to turn it On. I see this all the time when visiting Youtube. The
first screen reads and works fine, but the Search Result screen about
half the time, I need to turn on Browse mode.

Guess the bottom line is that Yes, there is at least one other person
using 9.2 that finds Browse Mode to have its problems.

I continue to struggle with 9.2 as I wait for any updates or upgrades.

works great for me, with Window Eyes. So does Duck Duck Go.

RE: word 2013 spell and gramar check

Speaking of spelling errors, have you all tried the insert tab combo? It tells
you what words are spelled incorrectly, but I cannot figure out how to correct
them. If you can, shove me in the right direction.

Hello Mark,
I appreciate the suggestion, but what if your error is extra spaces between
words?
I have to admit, that the context menu option did not suggest anything, but
the regular spel lcheck dialog did. I am not saying that having more than
one option is not a good idea. But, this is something that should be fixed,
so that more than one option is accessible.
For me, if it is a matter of spelling errors, I love the ability of jumping
from error to error. But grammar errors, do not always have suggestions in
the context menu like the spelling errors do.

Robin's tip was spot on regarding how to access the suggestions Word
provides for grammar errors in your document. To clarify, when Word flags a
grammar error, it doesn't explain the error like an English teacher would in
high school. Instead, Word only provides one or more suggestions that you
can use to replace the grammatically incorrect text. For example, if I use
the word too (with two o's) when I should have used to (with one o), the
suggestion Word will provide in the context menu or in the Spelling and
Grammar pane is the word to. It doesn't tell you anything about what
homonyms are and how to pick the correct homonym based on its current
context. With that being said, I did find that the Grammar pane provides
definitions of suggested words. This text is accessible via the Mouse hot
keys if you really needed it.

Marc

Once you get to the error, use the application key to pull down a list of
options. Sometimes I still find I need to read the sentence or a few words
before the error to decide which is the correction options.

I know you can navigate the spelling and gramar errors with window-eyes, but
how do you get your gramar errors explained?
If this is not possible, then AI squared should address the accessibility
with the Word user interface in a future version of window-eyes.

Go to advanced options, go to verbosity, expand it and do whatever it is you
want to do. If you don't want to hear star when entering the password
field, go to miscellaneous.

Subject: Re: the on going saga of losing speech

As a person that is constantly having either Window Eyes 9.2 fail, or
something else going on, so far unknown, I have come to think my problem
is a Hardware issue.

Although, I can not find any proof of my theory as many people on this
list have such a wide variety of computers and Operating systems.

At first I thought it may be something within Win 7 64 bit edition,
where the conflict was caused. Then I noticed others running Win 8, 8.1
and even Win 10, were also experiencing such speech drop outs.

This morning, I had WE 9.2 go away three times within 45 minutes. I
finally just shut down my system and walked away because I was so
frustrated.

I am attempting to figure a way to buy another system. And hopefully,
this will help eliminate WE 9.X from losing Speech.

If it doesn't, I'll be using JAWS latest version in its Demo Mode, as I
am looking for Employment, which forces me to be On Line a Lot, every
day. Something I can not do consistently when using WE 9.0, 9.1, and
now 9.2.There are still times when I need to fire up my old XP
system and use WE 8.4, and hope I.E. 8 will be allowed on some Employers
Web Site. Sometimes it is, and more often it is not.

Using JAWS Demo will give me at least 30 minutes before I need to
re-boot. With the current edition of WE 9.2, I am constantly
anticipating Speech to go away.

Not Fun!

Hey, Bob.

The show advanced options item is in the Window-Eyes help menu. With the WE
control panel open, press Alt-H, V and that will check the menu item.

As for your second question. In the Window-Eyes settings tree view in the
keyboard voice node, tab twice and that will put you on the voice combo
box. Admittedly, I haven't played with these settings much, but I don't
think there's a way to make WE speak only when a punctuation mark is typed.
The on with words function will say words after the space bar is
pressed--that much I remember.

Posting to Facebook.
First of all, using the mobile site is blind person friendly. The original
site is just a nightmare.
When I want to Post, I first press the letter e to actually find the edit
field, then I type in what I want to say, then I tab to Post. It is there and
it does read it.
The thing I cannot find is the Tag friends. Somehow a while ago, I got on a
mailing list and every time they change something, they send me an email asking
if a blind person can access it.
They have made changes in the last few months, but I have not received anything
inquiring, so perhaps they think its okay. If I find an email address, I will
send them feedback.

2. 2. He suggested that I open the message, press Alt, arrow down to
Save attachments hit enter.
Needless to say, that won't work either.
Infact, if the message is open, it just makes a metallic sound. Dink.

I am so frustrated. Any suggestions for me.

Yeah I crawl under a rock from time to time, so I probably missed the news.
So can we download the latest version of ITunes and use it with The newest
version of WE?

Thanks.

Hi, i was wondering if any music/radio streaming services worked
semi-decently with WE. I tried spotify at the end of last year and it didn't
work also tried the iheartradio windows 8 app and had no success there
either.

Thanks

Hi Rod,

Thanks, this does work, but it would be more convenient if a specific hotkey
would provide just the download progress.

As I said before, I thought control insert b should do this, but at least on my
computer, it doesn't.

John

 Hi,

I normally just use Control-Shift-W to read the top part of the window with
 the download progress.

 Hi,

I am running Windoweyes 9.1 on a Windows 7 machine with internet explorer.

While downloading files, I press control insert b and am told: no progress
 or scroll bars found.

Is this the wrong hotkey for checking download status?

 Thanks, John

My right arrow is set to read prior character after. When I move to
the beginning of a line and press right arrow, I get a beep. It
takes a second press to actually move and read the first character on
the line. This did not happen in WE 9.0 or any earlier version.

Honestly, if I had been smart, I would of stayed with XP and WE 8.4. that, in
my opinion, was the best set up and I hardly had a problem. Now, I have WE 9.0

Dear List, especially XP users:
Until I can get a newer computer, I am still using Windows XP. I realize it
has not been tested for Window-eyes nine. Those who are still using windows
XP, have you stayed with window-eyes 8.4 or have you taken a chance with
version nine. Your answers will help me decide whether to wait or upgrade to
the newest window-eyes. Thanks for your experiences regarding this. Regards:
