[OSM-talk-be] Tagging of a large slab of concrete with many bus routes going over it
What follows are the reactions of 2 people on talk-be, regarding my question. I know Ivodeb is not happy with how I tried to solve the marriage between proper rendering of normal maps and maps of bus routes. We'd need a separate tag for indicating that these 'roads' are not actually there, but they are more like 'virtual pathways' of where the vehicles are likely to travel across such a wide road, devoid of lanes. Please let me know what you think. Ivodeb would also like to see two oneway streets between the platforms, but there too, there is only a wide slab of concrete. I could add them to the multipolygon, ofc, but that's completely breaking with how OSM used to map. Maybe it's the way to go, though. So three main possibilities: 1. map only what's really there. Result: ugly bus routes 2. do it halfbaked, like it's now. 3. go completely nuts with the virtual pathways and add the spaces between the platforms to the multipolygon as well. Result: really clear and smooth bus routes. Jo Hi, I'm working on the bus terminal of Leuven in Belgium. http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=50.882181lon=4.714964zoom=18layers=M There is a triangular shaped slab of concrete with an island, the bus terminal is right next to it. I created many 'ways' that are not exactly there, but in order to create contiguous relations they are needed. My biggest beef with the rendering are all those little one way arrows. So I already took them away, but somebody else insists on putting them back... What I did with the multipolygon conveys what's actually there. All the virtual ways are paths across the concrete in order to get a nice picture when rendering the bus routes. It seems like a good compromise, but I'm at a loss about whether it's the right way to map the whole area. Thanks for your input. Jo Beantwoorden Doorsturen Beantwoorden Richard Mann aan mij, talk details weergeven 4 okt. (3 dagen geleden) The Mapnik rendering is not perfect, and one of its imperfections is its over-display of one-way arrows. That's a problem for the renderer to fix, I'm afraid. I think you always need ways, even if they are covered by an area, so your approach strikes me as just fine. Whenever I encounter a virtual path for for example a cycle route or a walking route crossing a big pedestrian square, I draw an extra way, with just the tag route=bicycle or route=foot (no highway tags) which shows how you'd walk or drive over it, and I add that way to the relation. [OSM-talk-be] tagging of bus routes that are following a deviation
The whole discussion with Tom from De Lijn raised a few questions for me. How do we indicate a bus stop is 'afgeschaft' or 'verplaatst'? Do we change the bus routes when the buses take another route for several months at a time? Like is the case atm for ALL bus lines in Leuven that pass through the center. Or like other buses do for another year to avoid Geldenaaksebaan? Jo ___ Talk-be mailing list Talk-be@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-be
Re: [OSM-talk-be] busroutes
Re: [OSM-talk-be] STIB/MIVB data sharing
I'd say; contact them and see what kind of objections they come up with. I contacted De Lijn and they want a 'guarantee' that all the data in our database be 100% correct and most importantly, up to date. If MIVB wants the same kind of guarantee, maybe we shoulld set up a separate project with its own database under the database license OSM is going to use. That way correctness of the imports into that database can be guaranteed. if they prohibit commercial use, you can forget about it though, as the DB license OSM will be using shortly does not prohibit commercial use. And there is no way of stopping commercial use once it's 'set free' under that license. All, Did anyone try to contact the STIB/MIVB (public transport in Brussels) about their new data sharing program? The available data seems to include * All stops and their geolocation * Lines and routes * Details on all stops from a line * Theoretical schedules see: http://www.stib.be/data-sharing.html?l=fr / http://www.stib.be/data-sharing.html?l=nl At least the three first items would be interesting for an increased accurracy in OSM data. The conditions seem to make the data unusable for a direct import (no commercial use, showing their logo, ...), but even then we can imagine some kind of indirect use with a comparison app or something. Re: [OSM-talk-be] busroutes
Re: [OSM-talk-be] busroutes
Ben, moeten we stemmen over 1 of 2 relaties/busroute?

Re: [OSM-talk-be] Busroutes
I agree with you, ofc. The reason for using child relations was because so many bus routes share the same roads. I'm starting to think, maybe another level of abstraction is needed. A totally separate set of relations. What we have now: 1 route relation for each direction (even though, even that is being disputed), containing all segments and all stops where this bus stops 1 relation grouping these sets of route relations. Maybe this one should get another name. PTLine (public transportation line) In order to be able to maintain all this data, maybe we could have the child relations as 'routepart' and 'protoroute' relations to combine them. Then we (I) could write some software to convert them to the actual route relations that the routers/map drawing SW can work with. Then if a change is needed, the editor adapts the protoroute and/or the segments and runs the conversion tool. In Liège I have mapped bus route 10, there are 3 variation of this bus route: 10 Fléron http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/relation/1148168 10 Mangée http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/relation/1148170 10 Romsée http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/relation/1148169 Up to Fléron, those three are identical, so that common part is in relation http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/relation/1148167 which is shared by the three, further, 10 Magnée and Romsée share a small part which I have put in relation http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/relation/1148166 It is much easier to have it that way, if a bus stop change in the common part it must only be changed in one relation (and maybe others if the same stop is part of different routes, like 38b). I intend to do the same for other bus routes that I map (I already have a work in progress for 33 which also have alternatives (33 Vaux, 33 Trooz). -- Renaud Michel ___ Talk-be mailing list Talk-be@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-be ___ Talk-be mailing list Talk-be@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-be
Re: [OSM-talk-be] adressen invoeren
I've also been experimenting with house numbering. It's nicer if they also get renderd of course. If a building has 1 house number and no name, then it seems very appropriate to add it to the building. The only problem there is that they cannot be part of an 'interpolation' anymore then. But that's a minor issue. If 1 building has more house numbers, or if 1 building houses several named entities, it all becomes a lot less straightforward. I'm also working on Research Park Haasrode lately. There are 2 numbering schemes being used there, a bit like the 'kaainummers' in the harbour of Antwerp. At first I was adding those extra numbers as ref=, note=Research Park Haasrode, but I'm not happy with that solution. The only thing it has going for it, is that all the information stays nicely together. So now I'm creating the normal house numbers in parallel to the extended ones: addr:housenumber= addr:street=Research Park Haasrode Since those numbers are in reference to the entire zone. So now both numbering schemes are getting rendered, which makes it easier to spot which ones are already done. Twee gebouwen? Re: [OSM-talk-be] tag street from calc file
Hi Julien, Did you already try to open an .osm file in a text editor, after downloading it with JOSM? You'll find it's a text file in xml format. What I think you need is a program in a scripting language, which takes a line from the spreadsheet (exported in csv-format) and looks up the street name in the xml file. If it's found AND it is a oneway street, it can add a line: cycleway=opposite (converted to the proper xml-format) and tag the way as modified. If you like, I can try to write something which does this in Python. Then the .osm file needs to be opened again in JOSM. Now do a find (Ctrl-f) for 'modified' ways. It's important to check, since there will surely be street segments that shouldn''t have been changed (streets that only allow bicycle in contraflow in one part, but not another). On these you manually remove the cycleway=opposite tag. Then use JOSM to upload all the changes in bulk to the server. In Gent I find the following in the name tags: Henri Farmanstraat ((Luchthavenpionier, 1874-1958)) Vincent Evrardlaan ((Oud burgemeester van Gentbrugge, 1896-1995)) Guido Gezelle straat ((Dichter, 1830-1899)) Interesting information, but technically not really part of the name of the street. (Nobody will add that as part of an addres). Still, I also already wanted to be able to add this information. Can this information be stored in a name:etymology-tag? And while we're at it, we may be able to add a link to Wikipedia as well? name:wikipedia=nl:Guido Gezelle What do you think? mvg, Jo ___ Talk-be mailing list Talk-be@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-be
Re: [OSM-talk-be] 4th meeting STUK on 06 april 2011
I adapted the script quite extensively in the mean time. It takes into account the language of the names (if possible) and it works quite well for the bilingual situation of Brussels. Of course, what it proposes in the edit box, is only a suggestion. It will still turn all 'De' in 'de', which is probably not what you want when this 'De' is part of somebody's name. In that case, simply press the Cancel button and it will not ask the question about streets with that name again. What is more important than the specifics of what this script does though, is that is now possible to code functionality in Python. Doing something with a selection or with all the elements of a specific type. Adding the actions to a list and then adding that list to the undoRedo buffer. What I also found, is that it's best to start JOSM from within a command prompt, or from a cmd-file: C:\Program Files (x86)\java\jre6\bin\java.exe -jar -Xmx500m C:\Users\Jo\Downloads\josm-latest.jar That way Python print commands print to this command prompt and also when an exception occurs (an error), it's possible to see what it's all about in that output (and also in which line of the script it got stuck). Actually I think one meeting per month is an ambitious goal already, I prefer to have at least this rhythm fixed even if the location varies. We must admit that not very many people show up, those meetings we do manage should on the one hand attract a minimal attendance and on the other hand encourage newbies. Being close might be one point of attraction, and that's why I prefer the Liège and Aarschot options. But the main point is that we have SOME meeting. Re: [OSM-talk-be] Cell Phones Antennas
Pol, What is important is to know where the coordinates came from. If they got them with help of Googlemaps, then we cannot use them anyway. When I go the the BIPT site, I find information about those antennas that's a lot more interesting than those coordinates (which we can find out on our own, thanks to bing aerial photography). So if we can get permission to use this information: Geselecteerde site: 4150 - ref Philipsgebouw - addr:housename Philipssite / Nieuwe Kerkhofdreef - addr:street 3001 Leuven - addr:postcode, addr:city Status: Operationeel (for the ones that are not operational yet, we should find a way to indicate that) Coördinaten: 4.71307 O / 50.8674 N Lambert: X: 174240 / Y: 173059 m (if these are coming from then, we can also convert them ourselves) Antennes: - operator=Base;Clearwire;Mobistar;Proximus 1. Base: _VB4019B - ref:Base 20060315BASE03592http://www.sites.bipt.be/pdf/2006/03/20060315BASE03592.pdf- url:Base 2. Proximus: 16LEP_01 / 16LTV_02 Or something of the kind. So if the coordinates don't come from themselves, then we do some legwork and find those locations on our own one by one, using the addresses. What I'm trying to say is, that it's more important to get permission to republish their information about the antennas, than to get permission to use the coordinates they got for them. We can relatively easily reproduce the locations, but it's a lot harder for us to know what providers are being served by which antennas. (Not entirely impossible, but you would need 'abonnement' with all the Belgian providers to find out the strength of the signal and maybe a hacked phone to determine which cell on the network they are serving) Polyglot 2011/4/21 Pol d.paol...@gmail.com On Thu, Apr 21, 2011 at 22:51, Wouter Hamelinck ptity...@gmail.comwrote: Even if I have to admit that I sympathise with Pol's action, there is clearly no permission so it is a clear no go. Re: [OSM-talk-be] Cell Phones Antennas
Hi, the first order is to get permission to use the data, of course. To me the data about which providers make use of a particular antenna (tower) is more interesting than the coordinates. We have to make them fit into our context anyway, so it's likely we'll be putting them at slightly different coordinates. What I would do with them is to create an .osm file with the original coordinates and load this into JOSM. Then download information about an area into a new layer. Then copy/paste them one by one, while at the same time moving them where it makes sense for us to put them (in relation to the other objects on our map). Cheers, Polyglot 2011/4/24 Gerard Vanderveken g...@ghia.eu There are two things wrong: - The antenna at the site of BIPT is placed not on the roof of the building but above the white tent / parasol of the terrace (See their Google map with satelite view). If you want to send a letter to TEC, you can mention that we can set up a system to make sure that Openstreetmap always has the most current information they can provide in a matter of days (once the initial data is in, of course). We are interested in (for the bus stops): - coordinates (but we will place the node were it fits best in our context and keep track of their positions and ours, in order to know whether it needs an editor's attention) - name of the stop - zone - internal reference number, if one exists and they can share that with us (they are not on the stops, like on the stops of De Lijn) - shelter, waste bin, bench (or not) (not crucial) - We will also keep track of tactile pavement and accessibility for wheelchairs (some platforms are heightened), De Lijn is also placing electronic displays, which I started to tag. - bus lines served by this stop. (It's not because a bus passes by a stop, that it also serves the stop) - operator The biggest obstacle for De Lijn to share their data was that they were not sure about the reliability. I am now ready to set up a system which does a daily check on our data (to counter potential vandalism). And with a system that notifies contributors of changes between the previous data they gave us and the current data. For the moment we are only interested in adding bus stop locations. Ivo asked me what the shortcut keys were and which plugins I used for that demonstration. Maybe there are other who also wanted a recap, so here goes: Plugins: AddrInterpolation Terracer BuildingsTools Utilsplugin2 And a few others that I like, but which are not related to drawing buildings: Contourmerge OpeningHoursEditor turnrestrictions Public_Transport So, to draw many connected buildings very quickly, you start with a few addr:housenumber nodes connected by an addr:interpolation vector/way. Select the addr:interpolation vector and all the segments of the street it belongs to. This street/These street segments should have a name. This name will become a name field for the addressInterpolation relation Then you apply Tools/AddrInterpolation or Outils/Interpolation d'addresse and you tick create relation and Convertir un chemin en numéros de maison. This will result in an evenly distributed collection of nodes where the addr:interpolation vector was. They are all added to the newly created relation. Now these can be converted to building outlines, as follows: Create a building around them with 'w'. Select this building, one node on the outline of this building (near to the lowest house number) and use the relation to selected all the house number nodes. Then use Outils/Diviser un bâtiment Tools/Terracer All the created buildings are now selected. So add them to the associatedStreet relation and assign them a 'house' role. (The nodes have disappeared) The building outlines automatically get building=yes and it's possible to automatically assign them source=bing with Modifier/Définir la grandeur des bâtiments (advanced). Now drag the nodes of where the houses actually meet, according to bing. Then add extra nodes as needed by dragging the +'s. Alternatively use x (extrude). It's possible to make buildings orthogonal by using q. Things that I forgot to mention are merging of nodes, joining of (end) nodes to ways, ungluing nodes with g. I hope the whole presentation wasn't too incoherent and that my French was understandable enough. I get more practice in English and Spanish lately. I sure enjoyed talking about the subject. Maybe next time somebody could go into more detail about the creation of maps based on what's in the database. Such that it can become useful for somebody who wants to publish them. Re: [OSM-talk-be] Importing csv, good practices and tips : Multipharma Case Study
That's very good news indeed. I'd like to see that Python script. I can also help with integrating such Python script into JOSM. It would be a nice challenge to create a script which can merge the existing data with the source data and updated data. Remember that pharmacies can be represented by POI nodes or by building outlines (closed ways). I should probably check out this Merkaartor CSV file importer plugin. Polyglot 2011/5/19 Pol d.paol...@gmail.com Hello, 3 weeks after my initial request, I received from the IT Director (E. Joos), a CSV file containing all the informations about each Multipharma in Belgium and the right to publish them on OSM ! Hooray ! The file is raw and needs to be parsed and cleaned. I did that part and the file is now converted into a .osm. To do that, I used LibreOffice to transform some fields, it worked without problems, the CSV handling in LibreOffice is the best I ever seen. To convert the csv file into something usable like a .osm, I used a custom python script I can share. My questions are: 1. How to be sure not to override existing data ? 2. How to maintain such a list ? I mean, if I receive an updated CSV in some month, should I upload the whole set ? What about duplicates then ? 3. After work, the current fields in the CSV are 1. Latitude 2. Longitude 3. Country 4. Name 5. addr:postcode 6. addr:city 7. addr:street 8. addr:housenumber 9. phone 10. fax 11. amenity Should I add more fields ? Source ? addr:full ? something else ? 4. What is the preferred file encoding when submitting ? Iso-8859-1 or UTF8 ? Is suppose this is the later, but I want to be sure. [OSM-talk-be] Public transportation maps
Hi, Andy, the person who started rendering OpenCycleMap a few years ago, now added a worldwide layer with public transportation on it: http://opencyclemap.org/?zoom=12lat=50.86468lon=4.72902layers=0B (updated daily) There is also somebody in Eastern Europe who does the same a bit differently: http://openmap.lt/?zoom=12lat=50.86854lon=4.6813layers=B000FTT (updated weekly) I think this is great and it has me working on those route relations of De Lijn once again. Re: [OSM-talk-be] Workshop Trage Wegen
Hi Wouter, I will probably try to come for the meeting. Is it going to be like a mapping party? I can coach a group and I have two GPS units, so one can be for another group. I have no idea where those lend out GPS units are. There should be a list of them on the wiki, mentioning their whereabouts. Maybe people can be asked to bring their PDAs along, if they include a GPS. Something like NoniGpsPlot can be installed fairly quickly. The convention I see for mapping buurt- and voetwegen is as follows: name=Voetweg xx or name=Buurtweg yy http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=50.88679lon=4.58564zoom=16layers=M As they are found on their name tags. Unless they got a 'proper' name. I have been looking at those atlases of buurtwegen and around here many of those buurtwegen from around 1830 now have become actual streets. Polyglot 2011/6/9 Wouter Hamelinck wouter.hameli...@gmail.com Hi all, As Kenny announced some time ago, Trage Wegen vzw (http://www.tragewegen.be) will organise an OSM workshop. Since he can't be there, he asked on the list for others to take care of it, which has become me. Practically, the workshop will take place on June 18th in Haaltert. Details to follow. Anyone whishing to come is of course more than welcome. A few questions and remarks: * First of all, please try to avoid mapping in the Haaltert region the until that day. Now there remains a lot to be done (it is just out of the old good quality Google image area). For newcomers it is more fun if their work shows clearly on the map. * Since most of them will not know OSM I would like to start with a short presentation of OSM. Mainly the comparison with wikipedia and some images showing possibilities and growth of OSM. With some nice maps of course. Does such an introductory presentation exist and if yes can someone send it to me? * Since this is for Trage Wegen vzw, I would like a convention on how to map the numbers of buurtwegen/chemins vicinaux. Reasons why it should be mapped: - the numbers are an official reference, still used today (certainly for paths, not really for regular roads) - the data (especially the numbers) are available from an out of copyright source (Atlas der Buurtwegen/Atlas des Chemins Vicinaux dating from the 1840's), so a source that can be used. I do not express myself if the digitisations that are nowadays available on the websites of most provinces can be used, but the original atlas certainly can be used. There have been a few discussions a while ago, but as far as I remember inconclusive. I remember that someone proposed vicinal_ref. According to me a good suggestion for since it shows clearly what the origin of the reference is. It is of course not internationally recognised, which according to me is no problem since the whole buurtwegen/chemins vicinaux concept is national. Any problems if I would present this as the way to add those numbers? * If I remember well OSM-be has some loggers available for mapping parties and the like. I could not find a page on the wiki about it. Anyone has information? If they are available and could be used for the workshop, how can I get them. I am commuting between Ghent and Brussels so I can easily pick them up in any those two cities. * Any other suggestions? wouter -- Wie niet in zichzelf gelooft, komt nergens. - Thor Heyerdahl ___ Talk-be mailing list Talk-be@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-be ___ Talk-be mailing list Talk-be@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-be
Re: [OSM-talk-be] Workshop Trage Wegen
Where trage wegen are being reinstated they are 'named' as Voetweg xx or Buurtweg yy. Usually there is a name tag on both sides with the same number. Occasionally there is an arrow with the name of the street the path leads to. It doesn't hurt to use Voetweg xx or Buurtweg yy as the name when it is on a street sign. Polyglot 2011/6/11 Wouter Hamelinck wouter.hameli...@gmail.com The convention I see for mapping buurt- and voetwegen is as follows: name=Voetweg xx or name=Buurtweg yy http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=50.88679lon=4.58564zoom=16layers=M In fact, using the name tag is mainly a bad idea because in the Atlas der Buurtwegen/Atlas des Chemins Vicinaux every chemin/sentier has a name along with the number. But as far as I know those names are not used today except when they survived time and are still used as regular street names. As an example, the street where I live is in the atlas Chemin no. 3 and has the name Oudenpontweg. Today it is a regular street of which the major part is named Kerkstraat and a minor part Oude Pontweg. Of course, the atlas is only interesting for what is today a path-like thing. For those I have never seen a use of the name from the atlas. In e.g. community councils it is always the number that is mentioned. wouter -- Wie niet in zichzelf gelooft, komt nergens. - Thor Heyerdahl ___ Talk-be mailing list Talk-be@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-be ___ Talk-be mailing list Talk-be@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-be
Re: [OSM-talk-be] Workshop Trage Wegen - short report
Thank you Wouter for the good and interesting presentation. For an actual workshop, where people can actually become active entering data, I think it'd take 2-3 hours all by itself. I was taking photographs of house numbers. I'm always careful not to include names or license plates on my pictures. People have asked me what I was doing before, usually mentioning an uprise of break ins as the reason. I never managed to get the police mobilised, probably because I explain people what it's all about when I'm approached. Maybe the fact that we were a group worked intimidating as well. Wouter, you had many before and after images of cities. Will there be a before and after of Haaltert as well? I'm not quite done yet, but I think the difference will be noticeable. I'm also staying away from the Trage Wegen, that I didn't map myself for the moment. Hopefully some of the participants will enter them. Cheers, Polyglot 2011/6/19 Nicolas Pettiaux nico...@pettiaux.be THank you very much Wouter fot this good and interesting report. 2011/6/19 Wouter Hamelinck wouter.hameli...@gmail.com: After a short lunch break we went out to do some tracking. Most of us went on to discover the paths around Haaltert. Polyglot showed a great interest in house numbers which caused the local people to alert the police about this suspect activity. does this mean that the inhabitants did not like that the people passing by write their house number ? Have I well understood ? I finished with a short demonstration of Potlatch and JOSM. Unfortunately there was a lack of time to let the attendees experiment a lot with their own data. good to know. Could you give us some idea about the timing you had = what did take how much time ? For this reason I have limited my edits this far to the region where the others did not go. I will keep an eye on the evolution the coming days. +1 There was a very positive response from the people of the vzw Trage Wegen. They have a lot of data and have problems to make it public. very good. They see a lot of possibilities in OSM at the very minimum to use it as a background layer. They intend to recreate there website, with a new site that should be more map-oriented and e.g. allows visitors to draw the trage wegen/voies lentes by themselves. hope fully this could lead to some other easy ways to enter data in OSM. A few problems: * A lot of their data is based on NGI-data and hence not directly usable in OSM how are these data based on NGI data ? copied, inspered ? Could this be used as one way to go to NGI and ask them for a specific limited access to some of their data in a way that would be compatible with OSM . * They are very hesitating to redo all the work they have done this far. this is understandable. This support the idea of 1/ open-standard to encode the data 2/ have the data free right from the beginning ! Some automation should be needed. (Will need follow-up) * The editors are intimidating for not-very-computer-minded people. According to me it would be good to have an a to z explanation with the minimum knowledge for specific interests. This means a full description from creating an OSM-account and recording tracks to the tags needed (in the case of trage wegen/voies lentes just track/path/footway/cycleway would in fact be enough, they don't care a lot about the rest) in one file or one page on the wiki. I think I'll give that a shot. Good idea to have very short films to sho how to do something with OSM, specifically explaining the points that interest these people. Major opportunity: they are very eager to distribute the data that they have. In that point of view we are completely at the same wavelength. +10 THanks again Nicolas -- Nicolas Pettiaux, dr. sc ___ Talk-be mailing list Talk-be@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-be ___ Talk-be mailing list Talk-be@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-be

Karel, Se ni cxioj parolus Esperanton, tio estus multe pli facila. But since we don't all speak an easily learned common world language, English will have to do. I simply didn't feel like repeating myself in three languages. (Besides, I was under the impression that that was the way it's done on this mailing list). The venue I proposed may not have free parking space on the spot, but 1 km further, just outside the city there is space. Nicolas' venue has underground parkings nearby. It has the advantage that we can promote OSM to Belgians and tourists alike. I can promote OSM in Dutch, French, English, Spanish, German or Italian. For me Brussels is just fine. I don't have a car, so I'll have to come by train or bus. Re: [OSM-talk-be] Introduction
Hi Dirk, Welcome! It's a bit odd to have to use a 'non-indigenous' language to communicate on this list, but it sure beats having to write all messages in 2 or 3 languages. When you're talking about something concerning only Antwerp or a Flemish topic like De Lijn, you could simply use Dutch as well. The one most important thing to remember is to not copy from proprietary maps like Bing maps or Google maps. What I'd like to ask, is, if you map a bus stop of De Lijn, please also add the ref number and which lines pass there (route_ref). I'm considering to try and convince people (outsiders to OSM) to send me pictures of bus stops, so I can add this information. I managed to map all the lines going in and out of Leuven and many of the stops in a radius of 40 km around me. My combination for mapping is an 'abonnement' of De Lijn and a foldable bicycle, hence the interest in bus routes. You can easily loan a GPS device from the foundation. A lot of the time they are just sitting there idle anyway in somebody's drawer. I think a bunch of them is with somebody in Gent for the moment. He'll probably contact you when he sees your message. You also have a nice and affordable shop in Antwerp, gpsshop.be, if you consider investing in one. One of these days I'll simply buy an Android PDA with a GPS built in, like this one: http://www.pdashop.be/product/96974/htc-wildfire-metal-mocha.html But for the moment I'm using an older HTC with Windows Mobile 6 and NoniGPSplot. Cheers, Polyglot 2011/7/26 Dirk Roels (Hotmail) dirk_ro...@hotmail.com Hi, (I'm writing in english as this seems common practice) My name is Dirk Roels, I will be 59 next month. I discovered OpenStreetMap 2 or 3 days ago. I'm using a Garmin Nuvi 350 device (I know, it's not a fancy hiking GPS), but I would like to extend its use to hiking paths, although my main reason for my interest for the time being is the everlasting price of updates with brand-maps. As I'm using this free map, I feel I have to give something in return (and multiple contributors can achieve more than one). I live in 's-Gravenwezel (Schilde) near to Antwerpen, so you can guess my mothertongue is some kind of Dutch. My mapper name is 'Koalake'. I noticed that my area has a a number of unnamed streets and unmapped paths, so my intention is to verify, correct and add where appropriate (actually I already started doing that). As I was laid-off with HP last October due to a mass reorg and I am in pseudo brugpensioen, I got quite some spare time, but I don't have the luxury of a company-car anymore, so my mobility (iow covering other areas) is rather limited. As I'm new in this matter I have 3 questions: In the Kolb leerstijlen-model, I tend to be in the actief experimenteren quadrant... in other words, I tend to read the manual as I encounter difficulties performing tasks. This has some advantages and some risks, so here's the first question: is there any absolute vital advise you can give me before/when contributing in OpenStreetMap? Although my use of OSM currently is pretty car-focused, I DO like to hike and regularly organise walks with a group of people as well as wandelzoektochten. Of course, that is the moment to verify and map paths which are not yet represented in OSM. I noticed somewhere (but can't remember wher exactly) that the belgian OSM-chapter were given some (I believe 11) real hiking-GPS-devices and I interpreted the remarks as if some of those devices would be available for tracking (this is quite cumbersome with a NUVI). Has anyone got an idea about the fact if this is correct and what the procedure would be to lend one of those devices when I set up a hike? If there are any active mappers in the Antwerp-area that would like to get in touch with me, please don't hesitate and if I can be of any help in Antwerp-projects, let me know. I know... this is quite a lenghty introduction (I'm normally not that lengthy in my words), sorry about that. In any case if I can be of any other help, let me know how. Hi Ben, I can certainly help you out with JOSM. Is this meeting to take place somewhere in Belgium? I can do a presentation in English, Dutch or French. Are there people involved with HOT here in Belgium? Will they work all over Africa, or in specific regions? The Openstreetmap project has been presented like this to participants of Trage Wegen in Haaltert a few months ago. The person who did this, did it very well. Completely adapted to newcomers and people who were not very 'computer savvy'. Unfortunately we ran out of time though :-) Jo 2011/8/19 Ben Abelshausen ben.abelshau...@gmail.com Hello, I contacted an organisation doing mapping in some parts of africa (Africa4U http://www.africa4u.eu/ website a bit out of date) and introduced the president of the organisation to OSM. There appears to be a lot of interest now from several participating members to get an introduction session about OSM. My questions: has anyone done something like this already and more specifically is someone interested in organizing this in collaboration with myself. The introduction has to be in Dutch/English I guess. If none of you are interested is there anyone who can introduce only JOSM? I don't have experience with that editor but to me, objectively, it seems the best one for the job... Also an introduction about licence and what sources they can and can't use seems important to me. Even better would be if someone involved with HOT would be present! I don't know exactly how many participants will show up but the ones that will seem pretty enthusiastic about all this... Hi Koen, That is great news! We always like to work together with other groups. Many of the cycle node networks (fietsknooppuntennetwerken) are already in OSM, but more eyes and hands will certainly improve the map. We have many more of the small roads (wandelpaden/fietspaden) than Googlemaps, so I believe it will be a lot better as a background layer for your route planner. If you want to organise a presentation for your members, I'd be happy to come and explain how to enter the data (preferably with JOSM, since it is a lot more convenient to enter route relations). Re: [OSM-talk-be] Fietsnet using OSM
Hi Koen, We are not lawyers, but the whole idea of having a freely available map is to enable the use you are describing. The whole project is in the process of changing the license to ODBL. Normally this should be good news, as it's meant to clarify how the data can be used. I'm afraid you're going to have to wade through some wiki pages and maybe ask your questions and describe your doubts on legal-t...@openstreetmap.org. http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Open_Database_License Basically what it all comes down to is that you have to put a mention somewhere accompanying the map or the data to accredit the Openstreetmap project and that you have to license your improvements to the data under the same license. Of course you can PRESENT a mix of both OSM data and proprietary data. The easiest way is probably to work with layers in that case. It's not a problem that the application doing the combining and the presenting is proprietary, as long as credit is given where credit is due. Oh, I see Gerard already described it a lot more eloquently than I did... On the input side, I think it's best your contributors all create OSM accounts and enter their data directly into the OSM database. Cheers, Jo 2011/8/22 Koen Mannaerts [fietsnet.be] k...@fietsnet.be Hi Jo, Kurt, Thanks heaps for helping! The most pressing question is about the OSM license. I'm still not entirely sure what OSM considers a derivative or produced work. The idea is that our contributors will extend, complete or correct the OSM map, as far as trajectory information is concerned: nodes, the rcn relationships, highway, bicycle, foot keyvalues, ... Periodically, Fietsnet will import all this data, connect it to other sources (external like meteo and event poi's, internal like statistics and usage data), and generate graph and track tiles. These binary tiles will be used by the publicly available, yet proprietary, routeplanner application. I'm not sure OSM's license allows for this scenario. Re: [OSM-talk-be] Fietsknooppuntennetwerk/Cycle node network
I created route and network relations as is described on that page; so far, so good. There is no way of grouping networks (yet) though. That's what I'm using the collection relation for. Kind regards, Polyglot 2011/8/31 Lennard l...@xs4all.nl That is OK for JOSM, but a list like this (at the bottom) is simply not meaningful. http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/changeset/917?relation_page=3 This is much clearer. Then ask for that page to display a note=* tag when a name=* is absent, like JOSM does. But why would you start making collection relations when a scheme already exists? Hi Julien, I'm glad you find my post useful. Did you manage to show the bus stops the way that you like? If not, if you point me to one of your bus stops, I'll try and see what I can do. For myself, I'll probably be showing the zone number of the stops, this way. In the mean time, I've improved a bit on the concept: way[boundary] { color: #66; width: 2; opacity: 0.6; dashes: 24,4, 4, 4; z-index: 4;} way[boundary=administrative] { color: purple; width: 2; opacity: 0.2; dashes: 24,4; z-index: 4;} node[rcn_ref] {text-color: green; font-size: 17; text: rcn_ref; text-halo: #aaffcc; text-halo-radius: 2; text-position: right;} relation[type=network][network=rcn] node::relation_underlay {text-color: red; font-size: 17; text: rcn_ref; text-halo: #aaffcc; text-halo-radius: 2; text-position: right;} area {text-color: red; font-size: 18; text: name; text-position: center;} Now it shows the CNNs/FKP'en that are part of a network in red on cyan and the other ones in an ugly greenish grey on pink. Later on, I'll probably want to assign each network its own color. For some reason the boundary is not drawn differently, which I think would be helpful since unsurprisingly those cycle node networks tend to have boundaries on the borders between the provinces. Re: [OSM-talk-be] Fietsknooppuntennetwerk/Cycle node network
I got a bit farther in my endeavour to add all rcn route nodes and relations to network relations. This is a very big task though, and I'm getting a bit overwhelmed, so if somebody feels like joining the effort, that would be nice. The following networks are ready: Dijleland Hageland Droog Haspengouw The following are WiP (work in progress); Pajottenland Brabantse Kouters And then there are some for which I tried to add a sensible group of nodes, until I hit a node number that is used twice. What I do: For each node, determine which ways have rcn relations. For each such relation remove name, ref and created_by tags note=xx-yy (with xx yy) order the members, such that the way in position 1 starts at xx if there is a split, because of oneway streets, a roundabout or cycle paths on both side of the road then label all roads in direction from xx to yy with a forward role, to where they join again then mark all roads back to the bifurcation with a backward role (when following the relation from xx to yy ignoring the ways with a backward role will get you there) Check that it's in fact possible to get from xx to yy. Sometimes a tiny part of road is missing, or chunk of road needs to be split off. Trying to determine wich ways belong to a specific network is probably the hardest part. In part because that task has not been made very simple by the people who assigned those numbers. Once I have a set of nodes that seem to belong together, I use a Python script I created, to add all the relevant relations automatically. This creates duplicates though, which need to be removed manually, but that is less effort than adding all the relations manually. Before uploading I also tend to check for license compliance. If the people of Fietsnet are going to be using our data, it's not done that part of the data drops into an abyss... I'm also creating a Python script which will be able to validate that continuity of the route relations, as I already did for a subset of the routes of De Lijn. OSM data is somewhat fragile in the sense that people split and recombine ways without taking into account the effect this may have on route relations and I'd like to be able to detect that automatically. Here's hoping somebody will take an interest in helping out... Jo ___ Talk-be mailing list Talk-be@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-be
[OSM-talk-be] Fietsknooppuntennetwerken/Cycle node networks in Belgium
Hi, As you probably already know I've been working very intensively on the rcn routes for the past month. I brought together the routes into networks and created a collection relation to refer to the network relations. http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/relation/1726882 I've been working on a Python script which runs inside JOSM to help me with the chore of checking each and every node/knooppunt and the route relations connecting them. The more important function of this script is to regularly do quality control on the whole bunch of relations and nodes top down and from the bottom up. I also created a wiki page: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/WikiProject_Belgium/Cycle_Routes/Node_Network This page summarizes the remaining obvious problems with the nodes and the routes. It's easy to see where there are less than 3 rcn routes connecting to a node, how many roads start from/end at/pass through a node and links are provided to jump directly to the node on the map. In the tables on the right side of the page the routes which still have problems are shown. I check whether they are continuous in forward and backward direction (I've been sorting all their members) and I've been adding forward and backward roles on the members that needed them. I realise now that I didn't do it as described here though: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/User:Ldp#.28C.29_Network_tagging Instead I did it this way: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/User_talk:Ldp So this might be(come) a problem. I'm still trying to come up with a way to check forward/backward continuity of the route relations with the 'conventional' way of tagging roles. Ldp also suggested splitting up the network relation for Limburg which contains more than 800 members. Which brings me to my next point. When I started this tour of Flanders, I was convinced I was going to discover some sort of logic with regards to the numbering of the nodes. There seem to be nodes which actually do belong together in a network, but there also many for which it is hard to tell to which network they actually belong. I've been trying to create networks where each node number appeared only once, but I failed in the attempt. So at some point I created imaginary networks in despair with ridiculous names like Dijlelandse Kouters. At other points I simply added two nodes with the same number to the same network. There are also nodes for which it is hard to pinpoint one OSM node, across canals on roundabouts. These already share the same node number and I'd like to have a way to distinguish them from the other nodes which happen to have the same number Anyway, do we throw all of them into bigger relations? We could also work multilayered. Now there is this: collection relation (Belgium) network relations (39-40 of them) route relations and nodes Which could become: collection (Belgium) collection (Provinces W-Vl, O-Vl, Antw, Vl-Br, Limb., Liège) (In the other French speaking provinces there are no node networks (yet)) collection (Kust, Westhoek, Brugse Ommeland, Meetjesland, Leiestreek (W.Vl O.Vl) Vlaamse Ardennen, Scheldeland (Antw en O.Vl), Kempen (Antw. en Limb.), Hageland, Pajottenland, Maasstreek, Midden-Limburg, Haspengouw (Vl.Br en Limb.), Voerstreek, Höhes Venn) network (39-40 of them) route The advantage would be that it would be easier to manage. When somebody needs a GPX containing all the routes and nodes for only Hageland or just one part of Kempen or all networks of the province of Antwerp. Another issue is whether to include the nodes in the route relations, or not. I took them all out except for the route relations in Limburg, as in the rest of the country that seemed to be the convention. There is no real need to include them, since they are already included through the ways and now they are also members of the network relations. And the last issue is, when one node is represented by several OSM nodes. I created an extra relation to connect them (note=52-52) and the ways that are members of this relation are not members of the route relations that start/end at these nodes anymore. This simplifies matters a lot. So the route relations start/end at the nodes and don't interconnect those OSM nodes anymore. Anyway, let me know what needs to be done differently and I'll try to comply. It would, of course, also be nice if we could find ways to add the nodes that are still missing and to fix the problems reported on the wiki page I created. (But those are the harder problems, which need extra surveying, the easy ones have already been dealt with by me, myself and I) Kind regards, Jo ___ Talk-be mailing list Talk-be@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-be

2011/10/11 Ben Laenen benlae...@gmail.com On Tuesday 11 October 2011 13:05:30 Jo wrote: I suppose the ref tag might be more appropriate. It is indeed a bit odd to use note for it, OTOH that's the only tag that was used consistently in all the 1000s of relations I've seen so far... Me removing the names on those route relations made the problem that Potlatch does not and will not display them more accute though. When ref is used, is it shown in Potlatch? If we reach a decision to change note into something else, no manual labour will be involved to change them wholesale. My script can take care of that, both for hiking and cycling routes. Consensus between contributors in Belgium, The Netherlands and Germany needs to be reached though. People here should stop thinking in terms of does editor X show Y. We tag the correct information, and if editors support it, then that's an bonus. We decided on the note tag long ago, and IIRC it was JOSM that started showing the note tag after we decided to use that tag for it. The routes don't have a reference number, they don't have a name, they just connect two nodes, so we chose not to use the ref or name tag. But since we obviously needed a little bit of help to know which relation is which, we used the note tag. Maybe the fact that this discussion seems to recur every so often is an indicator that something is not logical about it. Since these routes ultimately have to be entered by people and these people make a choice, which is not easily altered (I tried in the case of RoRay) as to what editor they use, it does matter whether editors support the way we tag those relations. Ultimately that's why, until recently, all the route relations had identical note and name tags. I'm working in The Netherlands now and there I find that they often use the name of the network in the name tag. I started by changing that to network:name, but now I''m taking them away, since it's information that can be deduced from the membership of the network relation. That's what I did, in fact. I don't have the maps published by the tourism offices of the provinces. I do have a file obtained from Fietsnet with a network for each node, but I used that only as guidance. It took an inordinate amount of time to try and assign those nodes to networks. I'm relatively pleased with the result, but I don't guarantee that I'm entirely done shifting them around... I agree that inventing a name like Dijlelandse Kouters (based on Brabantse Kouters combined with Dijleland) was not the best thing to do and I'll remove that one. Except that I'm pretty sure that Fietsnet has been looking at the published maps as well. And I checked this out in the past by looking for differences between the published maps and the situation in reality and check them with Fietsnet, which consistently showed the situation in those maps, even though some routes would just be impossible. I used it as a guideline, not as a reference. Until recently I had no idea of the general whereabouts of Meetjesland, Leiestreek, etc. Many of the nodes in OSM don't conform to what Fietsnet knows about them. What do people think of the following names I 'invented' though? Westkust (part of Westhoek) Scheldeland Denderstreek Voorkempen Kalmthoutse Heide Hageland Droog Haspengouw Probably as good as any other name. The problem for me is: why even invent names like these? They're completely arbitrary and don't conform to any subdivision of the network in real life, so why should we tag them as such? All these names are based on Wikipedia searches I performed. So it's not as if they are based on nothing. I doubt that it will be possible to encounter them anywhere on the guide posts though. For the other subdivisions of Kust, Westhoek, Meetjesland, Leiestreek, Waasland, Scheldeland, Vlaamse Ardennen and Kempen I simply used Noord, Zuid, Oost en West to subdivide them. What about splitting up Limburg in 3 or 4 regions? Maasland, Haspengouw, Midden-Limburg and the part that extends into Liège. Voerstreek was already separate. Why even split it up at all in Belgium? For all I care, use one big network for every province, given that these networks are controlled by provinces. Well, you seem to agree on something with Gerard. In Vlaams-Brabant we actually do have names for the regions. And that's where I started. In the other provinces, those regions seem to a lot bigger. We have 2 reasons for having an rcn_ref twice in a network relation: - split nodes around canals, on roundabouts, on separated cycleways on 2 sides of a road. - the decision of the tourism offices to only use 00-99 (except in Limburg and Hohes Venn and on the hiking networks) When using 1 relation for an entire province or region, like say Kempen, this network relation will 1. become a big mess 2. contain 1500 members, which becomes impractical to work with. Rinse and repeat. Dat zal gedurende de komende weken moeten blijken. mvg, Jo ___ Talk-be mailing list Talk-be@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-be
[OSM-talk-be] route termination tentacles between split nodes of the cycle node network
Hi, I added an explanation about the 'tentacles' extending routes when they encounter split nodes. Please enhance where possible. I tried to make it as clear as possible, but maybe I overdid it. We all know by now, that I had a hard time to grasp the concept and I'm glad I finally did (at least I hope I did). I think it should be documented though, hence my addition to the wiki. Part of the reason why I did it 'wrong' all across Belgium, is that I couldn't find an explanation for these odd 'extensions' at the end/start of the routes. Anyway, I see now that it's a good system and I've corrected all of them. There may still be some that have their own xx-xx relation in the south of The Netherlands, which I will correct as well, if nobody beats me to it. [OSM-talk-be] another informal meeting in STUK Leuven?
Hi, I just installed my very own Mapnik tile server and I'd like to show it off :-) I also discovered a lot of interesting stuff about JOSM lately: - mapcss styles: bring the interesting bits of data prominently forward: When working on cycle routes: cycle nodes and routes When working on hiking routes: walking nodes and their routes When working on public transportation routes: bus stops and routes serving them - custom name formatting: decide yourself what you want a 'name' to be composed of: My cycle routes show: And I've been experimenting with Maperitive a bit to create maps for printing. On top of that I sort of pioneered customising JOSM with Python scripts, but that's a rather advanced topic. And maybe I'll have some more news on Toerisme Vlaanderen by then. For now I'm awaiting some data files from them, to see what's in them and how we can incorporate that in OSM conveniently. Of course we can also talk about the weather. :-) So, what do you think? Feel like getting together once again? I could also come to another city, but then somebody else has to organise the venue. Of course, preferably something with free wifi. Re: [OSM-talk-be] Some maxspeed mapping questions
While starting to change a mini_roundabout which wasn't actually a mini_roundabout, I went a little overboard and this is the result: It is a 'verhoogd kruispunt', so I tagged all the elevated ways with: traffic_calming=table And the places where the bumps are 'felt' with: traffic_calming=bump I added the cycleways and cycleway tags and then I had to change the rcn and rwn relations The rcn had this, which I have been removing everywhere, since it's a Dutch word: nettype=knoop I left these tags: rit=x Although I don't know what they stand for and where they come from. Should they stay? Are they useful for anyone? I don't think rit is an English term and there are maybe 100-150 out of 5000 routes which have this tag. Concerning the nettype. While editing a bit in Germany (and in the border area Hohes Venn), my script ran in trouble when trying to detect new rcn routes, because the Germans use rcn for many different kinds of cycle routes. In the mean time I found that normally I can distinguish between the cycle node networks because we don't use ref tags and they do on the other networks. While 'complaining' about the mess, they suggested I add an additional tag to the cycle node network rcn relations, since those were the exception worldwide. So, does it make sense to add something like: network:type = numbered_nodes nettype = numbered_nodes to our rcn networks? Sorry for rambling on and on... those are questions that I've been wondering about for a while and which all surfaced now during the editing of a simple junction... Apparently there is a date published for phase 5 in the license change process: https://docs.google.com/document/pub?id=1UCVD45uSzsy3QBGAn8hlu8Ki-UAZoWLkSUOa16yAje4 1st of April 2012 Why they couldn't have selected a date that sounded less like a joke, I don't know :-) And what exactly is going to happen on March 31st is not entirely clear to me either. What about split ways? Are they going to delete all ways that were ever touched by indecided/unreachable people and nay sayers or will they revert them to before they were edited by them? Anyway, I've been working on recreating ways, nodes and relations and dropping the pieces of information contributed by people who hadn't agreed (yet), but it's a very tedious job and it takes up enormous amounts of time. There is one area in Oost-Vlaanderen wich will be particularly affected, because of 2 contributors who have been very active and then said no. The reason why I check the data I touch myself, at the end of an editing session is because I don't want my contributions, which I add on top of the contributions of others, to be lost. The entire history of the objects is lost in the process though, which is less than optimal... And, of course, the process is error prone. Kind regards, Jo ___ Talk-be mailing list Talk-be@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-be

Re: [OSM-talk-be] [FOSDEM] Call for stands, devroom talks and lightning talks
Do you think there might be interest in a talk about scripting JOSM with Python or about configuring JOSM until it brewes you a cup of tea without even using tea leaves, just like on the HHGTG? 42 2011/11/16 Marc Coevoet sintsix...@gmail.com: Dear Hackers, We hereby invite any and all open source projects to participate in FOSDEM 2012 by manning a stand for the weekend, by giving a talk in a devroom or by giving a 15 minute talk in our lightning talk room. See http://fosdem.org/2012/call-for-participation on how to submit proposals. * Manning a stand We offer open source projects a place for a stand in the hallways. Stands can be used to share information, demo software, sell merchandising, give away goodies and so forth. Stands allow projects to present themselves to the visitors in a more personal fashion. See http://fosdem.org/2012/call-for-stands for more details * Talking in a devroom We will be hosting 25 (!) different devrooms, covering a broader spectrum of the open source landscape than any year before. The accepted devrooms are: Ada -- BSD licensed operating systems -- Configuration and Systems Management -- Cross Desktop -- Distribution Miniconf -- Embedded -- Free Java -- Graph Processing -- Hardware Security and Cryptography -- JBoss.org -- Legal Issues -- LibreOffice -- Mono -- Mozilla -- Multiserver -- microkernel-based operating systems -- MySQL and Friends -- Open Mobile Linux -- Open Source Game Development -- Open Source Telephony -- Open Source Virtualization and Cloud -- Perl -- PostgreSQL -- Smalltalk -- World of GNUstep -- X.org and OpenICC See http://fosdem.org/2012/call-for-participation for the list of announcements or contact devro...@fosdem.org for a contact address. * Lightning talks We have a special lightning talk room for all remaining open source projects that do not fit in any of the devrooms. Lightning talks are short 15 minute focussed talks in which one person gets to present the project or an aspect of it. See http://fosdem.org/2012/call-for-lightningtalks for more details. FOSDEM is organized by and for the community, non-commercial and highly developer-oriented. Its goal is to provide Free and Open Source developers a place to meet. Re: [OSM-talk-be] potlatch onbegrijpelijk
[OSM-talk-be] Fietsknooppuntennetwerken, hun complexiteit en begrijpelijke misverstanden eromheen
25-26 is aangepast.
Re: [OSM-talk-be] [OSM-talk-nl] Fietsknooppuntennetwerken, hun complexiteit en begrijpelijke misverstanden eromheen
Map what you see. Re: [OSM-talk-be] How do I tag these addresses?
This is very much a corner case... Step 1: Select a node with a low housenumber. Press 'a' and connect to a higher housenumber. Select this new way and tag it with: addr:interpolation=even (or odd, of course). Select one of the footways with a simple name by means of Ctrl-LMB (left mouse button) Now you have two ways selected. Now I press 'e', but that's not the default shortcut key for Address Interpolation (oh, it helps a lot if you install the associatedStreet and terracer plugins) Then a dialog window comes up. Click on the radio button o Relation (Create new) (the first time at least) and tick v Convert way to individual house numbers. All the rest is not needed and would be added as tags in the wrong place Two things happened. An associatedStreet relation was created for you, you can add addr:city addr:country addr:postcode yourself to it, as tags. No need to repeat those on every address node.. The other thing that happened is, you have an address node for each house now. Now it kind of depends. If you want those house numbers to be applied to building outline closedways, then proceed as follows: I use 'w' to create a rectangular building around all those address nodes There is no need for this to be exact, it will become clear why right away. Now open the associatedStreet relation and select all the houses, then press the button which selects those address nodes. ('select objects for selected relation members' is the tooltip) (Make sure you close the relation editor window at this point, otherwise you'll get an edit conflict later on) Then use Ctrl-LMB to add the building outline and you can also select one of its corner nodes, which is nearer to the lower number. Now I press 't', to activate the terracer plugin. No need to tick create an associatedStreet relation, we already have that Leave v delete outline way ticked Some serious magic happens and all the address nodes have disappeared (including their history). The info on them now belongs to the building outline closedways, which were created. Reopen the associatedStreet relation and all those buildings to it, assign the role 'house' to them. To be continued... I have to run (I'm creating an example, but it's not done yet) Jo 2011/11/26 Sander Deryckere sander...@gmail.com Hi, When I started mapping, I tried to map this place: http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=50.810407lon=3.301597zoom=18layers=M, and with bing images: http://binged.it/w1gsNq (don't look at the names in Bing, they're just wrong). But when I was home, I couldn't get any of the names right, so I changed it all to fixme's. Now, after a long time, I went back and understood how everything is (with the help of satellite images that weren't available back then). Apparently, the front doors of those houses are on the side of the footpaths (where you can't drive your car). While the post boxes are on the side of the service roads (where you can drive your car). Now, where should I place the address POI? At the front door? Or at the place where you have the post box and can drive with your car? And is it OK how I tagged the streets? I tried to use the results we got from a discussion some weeks ago about streets with a dual name. As a final thing, is there a way to use associated street relations on this (if so, with which way)?
