Hi Christopher,

From the TB Help:

You can add some start-up parameters to it to define a set of actions
performed whenever you open the Shortcut. For example, if the Shortcut
is located in the Windows Startup folder, you may want to switch off
the The Bat! startup Logo by adding the /NOLOGO parameter, so the
Target property of the shortcut becomes something like this:

C:\Program Files\The Bat!\TheBat.EXE /NOLOGO

Re: Proposal: The Bat! Message Board

2002-10-24 Thread Angel
Hi Ricardo,

On Wednesday, October 23, 2002 at 1:08:59 PM , Ricardo scibbled:

A And one *I* just thought of: The time zones.

RMR what do you mean by that?
What I MEAN is, that if there is a message board in place that there needs
to be (or SHOULD be) moderators from different time zones.

If someone is having technical difficulties with TB! and seeks help on the
message board, I would think it would be incredibly annoying to have to wait
a full day or whatever to get a response if there was no one to respond to
their query within their time zone, especially if it is one which is
hindering their use of TB!.
I am sure, given time, that many users (those knowledgeable and those
moderately knowledgeable) will frequent the board and be able to offer help
at all times of the day...
whichever time of the day it happens to be in your neck of the woods. But
until then, it would be a wise thing to have moderators from different time
zones frequenting the board.

This is ALSO to prevent any spamming or illicit postings etc. If Spammer1
visits the board and posts a bunch of crud on it, and there are no mods on
the board (or visiting it) around that time of day, it'll sit there until
a mod DOES get there. In the meantime, visitors (new TB! users, old TB! users,
curious-possible TB! users) will see this crud until it is removed. It is a
concern which must be taken into consideration whenever setting up a message
board, especially one which is not just a free for all board but is one
which provides a serious service...such as a TB! Board would.

On my boards, I have a wide variety of ass.t mgr's, and have got the time
zones pretty much covered. And believe me when I say it DOES keep the
crud down to a bare minimum whenever necessary. And while it may not
SEEM overly necessary, it IS something to consider. Especially when you
have such a broad userbase as TB! does.

I mentioned this, and I thought I was clear as to the why, at the end
of my first post:
 But given the diverse patronage, I think it would be wise to have
 people from different time zones moderating (assistant manager-ing) a
 board... no matter WHERE it is hosted.

Since TB!'s mailing lists are pretty much covered time-zone-wise, why
should it be any different for a message board? It shouldn't.

Re: Proposal: The Bat! Message Board

2002-10-24 Thread Angel
Hi,

RMR of course, I guess I wasn't paying attention when reading your message
RMR :)
Tis ok.. if I could pay attention, I would be poorer than poor lol

RMR I think you're taking this too seriusly, maybe. If you think a good
RMR web forum should give you a good answer before your bed time, I think
RMR this is going to be a very stressfull hobby for you. At least try to
RMR get paid by RIT ! :)

RMR In TBUDL we may have something like that because it already has a lot
RMR of subscribers from all over the world. But I wouldn't qualify a forum
RMR or discussion list as a bad one just for having to wait a day for an
RMR answer. And maybe two or three days to have several opinions and a
RMR consensus.
Maybe. But if someone who does not subscribe to TBUDL and is preferential
to the message board, why not give them the same consideration as those who
get asap help on TBUDL? That is all I was driving at :)

I'm not taking this too seriously, I'm *being* serious about it because
a message board involves just a ltle bit more than just setting up the
scripting and plopping it on the server and waiting for traffic.
I've run a web business since '95 and hosted many message boards; including
ones on my own server. I'm sure others on the lists have done so as well,
so I am sure they know of which I speak.
Over the years if I have learned one thing about the internet, especially
involving message boards, it's: you must look at it from every angle before
jumping in. I was just giving my opinion; I STILL think it is a marvelous idea.
And I STILL will sign up for it if and when it comes to fruition. If not,
oh well. But trust me, there are many help message boards out there and
*I* have posted to a few of them... and waiting X-days for an answer WAS quite
frustrating, especially if the help or advice is needed sooner than a few
days. The ones I tend to frequent now are the ones which I KNOW I will get
an answer on within a few hours... and I think the longest, out of those
boards, I have waited was 6 hours. To wit, those are also the message
boards/forums which are still alive and well...the other ones have
died.

Since my experience on TBUDL and the other TB! lists, I have learned one
thing that separates TB! from all else and that is there IS help out there
and it IS *prompt*. Why not continue that with a message board? Because it is
inconvenient? Because it seems a tad ludicrous? No... if a message board is
set up it should continue TB! tradition of users helping users and being
friendly and prompt. THAT has been a major factor with me sticking with
TB!, as well as recommending it to others. If the message board can't
continue with this tradition then why bother?

RMR yes, it would be nice to have 2 or 3 moderators. But I wouldn't delay
RMR the start of the board just because there's only one moderator. It's
RMR just not so bad to have inappropriate content posted for a few hours
I agree with you here. But I don't think I said anything about a delay?
From the content of this thread I can count three or four people already
willing to help with the board, let alone set one up. :) As far as
inappropriate content being up on the board, that is entirely up to the
individual who owns' the board. I am sure whomever runs a TB! board will
take IT seriously.

RMR And I think you're confusing two things: One thing is the need to have
RMR several moderators covering different time zones. The other thing is
RMR the need to have a good quantity of contributors, who can answer to
RMR questions in a timely manner. But moderators participate in
RMR discussions as any other user, and it's not their job to be 'on guard'
RMR like a doctor, waiting for a patient to arrive :)
I think you read my message a little to literally. ;) Mods participate as
well as patrol. I thought I'd made that distinction :) When I wrote that,
I was talking of a message board as an idea. not of one as being already
establishedand the distinction was made re: moderators/mgr's and
persons who would patronize the board/frequent it. :)Just as with TBUDL, it
would be users helping users. :)

Re: Proposal: The Bat! Message Board

2002-10-24 Thread Angel
Hello again,

RMR I don't know your site or your business, but I will guess that the
RMR message boards where set up to provide a commercial service (again,
RMR I'm just guessing). If that's true, then you or someone else had the
RMR responsibility to provide a service, and to do it promptly.
Well, mine are set up to provide support/contact services (missing persons,
a fatal disorder, 9/11 related, alumni etc.) as well as minimal tech
support (on the Sims board). I have a couple on my personal homepages,
as well as elsewhere, which require less maintenance than the other boards.
But then again they are just just-for-fun boardsso to speak ;)

But I agree with you that if it is to provide a commercial service, then
a definitive level of responsibility is definitely there :)

RMR and you can't expect certain level of service in those boards. You just
RMR hope to get it, like in TBUDL.
Ahhh...so true. And this is why I perform seriously about serious-subject
message boards. In my own opinion, a TB! board would be something which
would definitely want to emanate that level of serviceor at least
something very close to it :)

RMR And I think it will be a good board.
Me too :D

ACM I agree here completely. The message boards success will hinge on
ACM how helpful it is to those who go there. Prompt replies to requests
ACM for help is definitely an important ingredient to encourage use of
ACM the board. I agree that it's not something to take lightly.
Yes... :) That was all I was trying to impress upon readers of this
thread... cos they obviously have an interest in where this will go,
and personally I love the camaraderie and prompt, friendly assistance
TB! lists offer and would love to see that weave itself over into a
message board if such board ever comes into existence.

ACM This is why the board would need dedicated participants to offer
ACM prompt help if you're all serious about getting it to successfully
ACM take off.
Absolutely. :)

I really hope it is considered, and seriously so. If such dedication and
seriousness were applied to it, I believe that a TB! Board would be a great
enhancement to the already superior TB! family of help venues on the WWW.

Web2Pop Hotmail Module

2002-10-22 Thread Angel
Hi all,

Just a short note for those who have been following discussions on using
Web2Pop ( http://www.jmasoftware.com ) with TB!...

I was having problems (for about 2 days) acquiring my Hotmail and
consequently found that a new W2P Hotmail module has been put out due to
the changes on Hotmail's servers. I updated the module last night and all
is working fine.

You can get it here:

MT I dont think NAV will support features such as filtering to folders
MT because of this, as the message attachment will never reach The BAt!

MT coming straight from the server with no scanning.

MT NAV Uses Port 3066 I think to listen for traffic and filters from

Understandable... and I believe, earlier, someone mentioned AVG? :) I have
used AVG for a while now and with the TB! plugin, I get a warning, and AVG
scoots the email into a neat, separate Quarantine folder. This is done BY
AVG itself...no filters necessary :) And I just right click on the FOLDER

I am not sure, but also earlier in the thread, someone mentioned filtering
by subject and I THINK you can create those filters, then go into the
filter options in TB!, find that filter, then choose the ACTIONS tab and tik
the delete message or delete message from the server box... and that will
delete the message? That way it would never be filtered anywhere except to
your trash folderor maybe even remove it entirely from the account ?

Since I do not use NAV, I am not really sure how it works with TB! or how

me crazy. I am new to the list and have spend a few hours in the
archives looking but have not found my problem.

I will describe the problem as best I can.

I check 11 different accounts on three different servers. If I check
the with F2 it logs on an gets my mail. If I use ALT F2 it check
most of the account and hangs on one or the other and I have this
message in the log.

!7/13/2002, 17:53:19: FETCH - Server reports error. The response is: -ERR Password
supplied for tereno is incorrect.

The connecion box remains open. At this point things are hung up. I
can't even close TB even if I delete the task and close the connection
box. I have to use the windows task manager to shut down TD and
reboot the computer before TB will work again. I was checking my
account automatically every few minute that has been impossible for a
while, the checking task pile up.

I have completely uninstalled and reinstalled the TB.

I will glad provide any more information need to help troble shoot
this, I really like this program

Re[2]: Trouble checking mail with ALT F2

2002-07-14 Thread angel rodriguez

Hello Thomas,

Yes, the error message is VERY clear and that is what makes the bells
go off. The password is correct and if I reboot my computer and only
check mail manually with F2 it works well. Once I go to ALT F2 I get
that and thing hang up.!!

TB has work well for me for a few years and I'm not ready to can it,
but I need to find out what is going on. Rebooting anything is out of
the question the long run.

Warmly,

Angel

JR I'm wondering whether TB! is too fast for that ISP? I'm
JR not sure why that would hang up the program completely
JR it surely shouldn't lock up your system.

I also wondered if it was a speed issue?

NO it does not lock up the system but I can't get TB to work again

JR I don't know if you are set to send receive in one pass

I will do that.

Yes, I have the Windows task manager. What can I use it for in this

Well I am pretty sure that it something to do with the Panda. When
the Panda is on thing screw up when the Panda is off things work like
they did before!! The way they should.

It may have to do with pavProxy.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to get the two to work. I would hat
to have to choose but if I had to choose I would choose TB!

Subject: Will someone please post this in TBUDL for me? TIA Re: The Bat! Upgrades.

===8==Original message text===
Hi Chris,

 2. When I installed the last upgrade, my registration key didn't
 work. Is there a way of installing the upgrade without causing key
 problems?

Upon installing/upgrading earlier versions of TB!, time and time again
I found that it was not registered once the installation/upgrade
finished.
*IF* this is what you are referring to, all you need to do is locate
the email which contains your registration key (sent to you upon
registration), click on it (you don't need to open it in a separate
window...just click on it as if you were reading it...), THEN: go to
HELP / ENTER REGISTRATION CODE. When the box comes up, your key and
everything EXCEPT the password should be in there. All you need to do
is enter your password and voila! It'll be registered again.

FWIW: I just upgraded from 1.53d to 1.60q, and did not have to enter
my registration #/code as I have had to do before. (And, IMHO, this
version is awesome! VERY different, MUCH more friendly and easier to
use. :) )

Blessings and light,
~~~Angel
Re: Hotmail and the Bat?
2001-11-25 Thread Angel
Hi there ,
 I can't see one, but is there a way as in Outlook Express to
 download mail from a Hotmail account into The Bat?
P If Hotmail gives you a POP server that you can log onto, then you can.
Hotmail does not offer POP3 email checking from your favorite email
program such as TB!. In essence, if you do not utilize a 3rd party
program such as Web2Pop to access Hotmail's web-based email via POP3
from your email program, you must access your email via the Web.
Hotmail does, however, have the option for you to POP3 check your OTHER
email accounts, if you wish it to do so. But: you must still access
the mail via the Web.
P I have Yahoo accounts with which I both receive and send email with
P TB, but Yahoo is more open about such things than MSFT.
Yahoo is one of a few good email services which DOES allow for POP3
checking with your favorite email program. In TB! Archives, there are
several email threads discussing this in which quite a few web-based
email programs offer POP3 accessibility.
Ciao for now,
~~~Angel

Re: Hotmail and the Bat?

2001-11-21 Thread Angel

Hi there,

RL I can't see one, but is there a way as in Outlook Express to download mail
RL from a Hotmail account into The Bat?

RL If not any plans to add it. I hate having to use Outlook express about as
RL much as Hotmail, but sadly it's needed in addition to my normal accounts for
RL work purposes.
As far as downloading Hotmail email with TB!, yes, you can using
Web2Pop. Setup is easy and it works great. I have been using it for a
while now.  http://www.jmasoftware.com

To clarify, OE doesn't download Hotmail...it synchronizes with
what is on the Hotmail servers. With Web2Pop, it actually DOWNLOADS it
and, TB! can be set up to delete messages on the server thereby
eliminating Hotmail contacting you with the annoying: Your account size
is too large. OE just coordinates with what is on the server so it is not
actually downloading it. Another reason I couldn't stand using it
just to read Hotmail. lol

Just be forewarned that any HTML emails received at your Hotmail account
and downloaded using TB!/W2P will not show HTML graphic unless they are
sent WITH the email.. or something like that. (ie: HTML format email
will not show graphics). Maybe someone else here can clarify; it's been
so long since I have attempted to explain that ;)

Anyways, good luck with W2P. It is tops as far as I am concerned,
making web-based email POP3 retrievable with your favourite email
clientin my case, TB!. :)

Ciao for now,
~~~Angel
Re: Hello all. Need help
2001-05-29 Thread Angel
Hi all,
On Tuesday, May 29, 2001, 8:22:24 AM, you scribbled:
JR   I'm not sure this is a totally accurate statement as I regularly
JR   retrieve my msgs from a Yahoo address w/o a 3rd part app.
Yahoo has POP3 access. You don't have to use 3rd party app to
retrieve (or send) your Yahoo email.
JR   I think this is certainly true for hotmail; don't know about
JR   netscape etc. And I've heard that web2pop is an excellent prog.
For TB! to retrieve any webbased email which does not offer POP3
access (hotmail; Netscape et al.) from your own email program,
Web2Pop is awesome.
I have been using it for a while, JM is most receptive regarding support
(we've exchanged a few emails... :D   )  and when properly configured
within TB! (it sounds difficult, but really is not) it works famously. :D
He's using PGP Freeware Network Associates ver. 6.5.8
He did fix the problem..he was sending from the wrong address (duh
(Welcome to TheBat! by the way :)   )
In the filters, find the filter you set up for the SPAM. Do this by
clicking the + sign next to Incoming Mail (if that is how you set it
up...some people set up filters for their outgoing mail, and so forth
and so on...) and scrolling down the list until you find your SPAM
filter.
THEN, single click on it to highlight it. Then over on your
right, you will see the filter setup with a bunch of TABS across the
top (Rule; Alternatives; Actions; Options; Advanced).
Click on the ACTIONS tab, and scroll down until you see Forward To.
Tik the box next to that option, then type in the address you wish to
forward it to.
If you wish to include the kludges in your forwarded mail, tik the
Include Kludges In The Text option box.
(There are two other boxes there too: Do not send attachments and
Always use MIME envelope. It's your choice to tik those or not. All
three apply to the mail you will be forwarding.)
Then click OK, and it should filter the mail, then auto-forward it to
the specified address, from thereon-in. :)
TB! and Softhome.net *chuckle*
2001-04-16 Thread Angel
Hello, fellow Bataholics!
While goofing around on the WWW, I decided to go check out my webbased
email on my browser..partially cos I was bored (hurt my back during
the cleanup and have been unable to walk or work on the rebuild since
Thursday..) and partially cos I have been using Web2Pop for so many eons
now and haven't needed to use my browser for email...
Well, guess what? On Softhome.net http://www.softhome.net, they have
instructions on how to set your email account in TheBat! (Yup! Specifically
for TheBat!) woth POP3.
Usually you see "Pegasus" or "Eudora"...sometimes even "Netscape"
instructions only...but when I saw "TheBat!" at the bottom of the listing
I had to write. :)
Pretty neat, huh? (Well, for those who didn't already know this or see
this anyways.. *giggle*)
Tata for now *smile*
A I  then  did  it  on  sender, and to move it to another folder. When I
A re-filter  the inbox, messages from this sender are staying put and not
A being moved, I can't see why though.
It has been my experience with TB! for almost 4 years, that when you
create filters via right-click, you have to ALSO click the
"override existing filters" box. Let me explain:
Go into your filter settings for that particular account. Look for the
two filters you mentioned creating. They're near the bottom, right?
Well, TB! 'reads' the filters from top to bottom. If you have a
filter (we'll call this Filter1) set to filter email sent to a specific
email address showing in the list ABOVE a filter set for a
specific sender (Filter2), if a person sends to the email address
you set in Filter1, Filter2 will not be recognized because it is not
"overridden".
Simple solution is to go into the Filter Settings for that account,
click on Filter1 so it is highlighted, and then click the "MOVE DOWN"
button until it is BELOW Filter2. TB! will then read the filter you
set for the SENDER first, and THEN it will read the one you set for the
Specific-Email-Address. Then find the email you wished to have
filtered, move it back into the Inbox for the account you re-set the
filters for and re-filter your messages. The email should be filtered
properly.
Re: Filters
2001-03-29 Thread Angel
My second reply:
__
A I  didn't  see  it  either, I don't know if any list member can advise
A why.
I wrote to one of the list moderators. There have been other people
who have posted to TBUDL and not had their mail show up on-list. We
shall see...
A You  posted  to move the filter down in the list, but this is the only
A filter for this account.
Ok check the filter. I will give you examples of problems I have
bumped into. In ALL instances (**EXCEPT when setting a filter which uses
your email address...see example #1, below), remember to tik the
"override existing filters" button.
1)
Filter set for MY EMAIL address from a received mail addressed to me:
 Someone sends me an email. I right click, and set a filter "BY
 RECIPIENT". The  filter looks like this:
  "my name" [EMAIL PROTECTED]
 I edit it to look like this:
  [EMAIL PROTECTED] . Removing the "angel" and the  thingys made it
  work.
  ***When setting a filter such as this, KEEP IT ON THE BOTTOM of your
  filter list so TB! reads it LAST. If you don't, none of your
  filters will work because the emails, of course, will be addressed
  to you so THIS filter would override any others. .
__
2)
Filter set using SENDER information:
 Someone sends me an email. I want to filter emails sent by this
 SENDER. I right click, and set a filter "BY SENDER". The filter looks
 like this:
  "Sender" [EMAIL PROTECTED]
 In order to it to work, I edit it to look like this:
  [EMAIL PROTECTED] . I tik the "override" and click OK.
  Removing the "sender" and the  thingys made it work.
___
3)
Filter set for ANY EMAIL sent from a DOMAIN:
 I subscribe to TB! mailing lists. I  want ALL Emails from their lists
 to go into a TB!List-specific folder.  I right click on an email sent
 from TBUDL, TBBETA or TBOT, and set a filter "BY SENDER".
 It appears as this:
 "whoever" [EMAIL PROTECTED] .
 I EDIT it to appear as this:  @thebat.dutaint.com  , tik the
 'Override' then hit OK. LEaving only the @ and whatever is after it
 sets a DOMAIN Filter.
___
 Remember: while setting the filters, the emails you are setting
 filters for must be in your inbox,
 and you must "re-filter messages" after setting the filters or they
 will not work.
 See if those hints help you. It's an oddity, but one that isn't too
 much of a hassle onve you get the hang of it and works like a charm
 for me. With over 20 email addy's ( I co-own a business ) and a
 gajillion emails a day, I need something flexible and easy to use,
 and TB! works wonderfully for me. :)
 Let me know if this helps :)
Sincerely,
~~~Angel

A Gift to everyone....

2000-12-24 Thread Angel

Hello, fellow Bataholics!

My son created this, and we thought we would share it with you
all...it is his "version" of the Christmas Bat. :)

He boo-booed while cutting out a reindeer during our Christmas-craft
session and said "this looks like a Bat!" so he made a Christmas Bat...
and since he knows we *use* TB! (he uses it to email his Grandparents,
so he knew...), he said it would be ok to share it with you all.

Re: Receive Mail Dielmna

2000-12-07 Thread Angel

Hi all,

CL This problem has surfaced several times in this list recently
CL (with several variations), but none of the suggested
CL remedies/workarounds has solved my dilemna...
Forgive me if this HAS been answered before but

CL []the program "hangs" while Receiving Mail -
CL sometimes with the first of two accounts, sometimes with the
CL second. [] but often requires me to cancel manually.
CL In either case, the next mail check re-downloads all messages
CL on server
I am having a problem with this too. It is not NAV related, because I
have that setting disabled.

My problem is: of ALL the Accounts I have set up in TB!,
I have only ONE which "hangs" It's
extremely frustrating and has me totally perplexed. First, you will
see my OS info in my sig along with TB! v.# ; Second, I only have this
problem while networked. Whenever I connect, myself (my boyfriend's
computer is the "Main" computer...if his is down, I connected
myself..), the problem disappears.

It has only been in the past week
or so I have had this problem. I have NOT changed ANY settings,
neither has he (Network related or otherwise), but this account still
"hangs" and I have to go in and check manually, "cancelling" after
o... every 4 mails received just so I don't get wads of dupes. All
my other accounts have no problems connecting/receiving
mails/disconnecting. Only this one. It does not use Web2Pop (as many
of you know I have set up within TB!... THOSE accounts work fine
hehehe)

I know this is probably not TB! related (although it may be...)
but it's really annoying. If there is anyone out there who can help
me deduce what's causing this I would be grateful, and thanks in
advance. :)

Re: Hotmail and TB (was: Re: Editing received messages)

2000-11-21 Thread Angel

Hi there!

 how do I get my messages and email addresses off of hotmail and onto the bat.
  I'm having trouble fining their pop3 address.

JA You can
JA find the message in the archives at:
JA http://www.mail-archive.com/tbudl@thebat.dutaint.com/msg15604.html
JA It is extremely well written. [Angel: Thanks for the great list!]

Thanks... :)

I WILL add that while no POP3 email program such as TheBat!, Eudora et
al. can download Hotmail emails in and of themselves, it CAN be done using
a 3rd party program called Web2Pop. Outlook Express *can* access Hotmail, but
it does it in a manner different than TB! using Web2Pop, which allows TB!
to access Hotmail as if it were a non-webbased email account.

Web2Pop can be found at: http://www.jmasoftware.com . It is shareware,
but having used it for months and registering it, I can honestly vouch
for it...and with as many email accounts as I have, business related
and otherwise, it sure saves me time and effort. We have it set up to work
with TB! and M$ Outlook (*not* "Outlook Express") and it works fine.

If anyone needs help setting up Web2Pop, they can drop me
an email.. I would be glad to assist. :)

You did mention "Softhome"'s forwarding: my better-half uses his
Softhome account as the recipient of approx. 5 forwarded email accounts
(I use it strictly as POP3) and thus far has had no problem with it.
They are delivered almost instantly...Softhome has been one of THE most
reliable and efficient of all Free POP3 Email services we have bumped
into over the years. :) I may add that their SMTP works wonders as
well. Meaning, we can use their SMTP server from TB! no matter what
ISP we are connected to. This helps a LOT, as anyone who's changed
ISPs and has numerous accounts in their Email client can tell you that
changing the SMTP settings can be a pain-in-the-rear. So Softhome's
services, overall, is an A+++ in my own opinion. :)

I apologize for the lateness of this replyhope this helps :D

Re: Problems

2000-10-03 Thread Angel

Hi there!

DB It happens in "Loggin on" and "Logging
DB off". If I try to close the window it will freeze and the only chance
DB I have to delete it is to close The Bat and start it again.

DB I am connected to internet all the times via a company Lan using a
DB firewall. Normally everything works correct, but sometimes it happens.
I had this problem as well, and although for *me* it was a few
Versions ago, there have been some discussions on the matter.

My suggestion for you would be to go to the TB!UDL Archives:
http://www.mail-archive.com/tbudl@thebat.dutaint.com/index.html
and at the top, do a search for "hang". It gave *me* a lot of results,
and you can browse the threads and see which one would help you best.

I WILL say that this happened a lot to me with TB! ver. 1.44, and has
NOT happened to me with my current version (My system info and TB!
version are in my signature.)

Hope this helps!

Re: email services that work well w/ TB!

2000-10-02 Thread Angel

Hi Doug!

I can offer a few suggestions of email services I use, which are
POP3 AND WebBased accessible...and all are FREE:

Subdimension: 10mb space; POP3/IMAP/Web access
http://www.subdimension.com/freemail/index.html

Turbosport:   40mb space; POP3/IMAP/Web access; Autoresponders; Paging;
  Forwarding  more
http://www.turbosport.com/

Crosswinds: Unlimited space; POP3/Web access
http://home.crosswinds.net/services/

Coolmail: ( I couldn't determine from their site the actual amt.
of space, but..) POP3/Phone access; Calendar; Full Contact
 Management System.
I use this email's BRONZE plan for POP3 email. There is a 60
minute limit for the FREE phone access...after that there is a
charge of 10cents per/min. They have a SILVER plan but I
use the Bronze which is FREE. I haven't checked my email via phone
yet but I can vouch that the POP3 works great thus far.
http://www.planetarymotion.com/

MyPad: Not a whole lot of space (1.5mb...approx 200 TEXT
 messages) but they DO have a FORWARDING option AND PHONE
 access.
 Their POP3 access has a 5-star rating.
http://www.mypad.com

SoftHome:From their website:
 Quotas are set according to available disk space. Available disk space
varies in
 relation to advertising revenue. Currently:

 Hard quota = 30MB / 500 files: Messages are accepted up to these limits.
 Soft quota = 10MB / 300 files: If you hit your hard quota, your mailbox
size is
 reduced to this.

 Expiring Messages:
 Large messages have a shorter life expectancy than small messages.
 Messages you've seen have a shorter life expectancy than messages you
 haven't seen.
 Messages in your POP mailbox (aka your web-based inbox folder) have a
shorter
 life expectancy than messages you've moved to a different web-based mail
folder.
 Messages in your web-based Trash and Sent folders have a low life
expectancy.
 Web-only folders (besides Trash and Sent) have a longer life expectancy
than the
 INBOX folder. The INBOX folder is shared with POP.
 With hard and soft quotas like that, we are over-booked.
 Those quotas are for bursting, not for storage. For
 example, you can receive high-volume mailing lists, but you can't leave
them here.
http://www.softhome.net

***I have used Softhome's POP3 access for over 2 years and have NEVER
   had problems with it, except when they were running routine
   maintenance. You will run into that no matter which one you use,
   but in my own opinion, Softhome, Crosswinds and Mailroom are the
   ones which give me the least problems connecting/checking/whatever
   :D

Hope these are of some help. Good luck :D

Regards,
~~~Angel
Hi Jan,
JR  Does anyone access a MSN Hotmail account thru TB!? If so,
JR  could you tell me what your settings are so I can compare
TB! wont be able to access Hotmail by itself no matter what settings
worth it.
Re: Password pop ups
2000-08-25 Thread Angel
On Tuesday, August 22, 2000 at 7:32:42 PM , Thomas scribbled:
J   Is there a way to suppress the password popups? I have 25 accounts
J   that check mail periodically and every so often, I'll get the
J   password window. Where is has username, password and an 'update
J   account settings' checkbox. This is very annoying.
M I have the same problem. It has something to do with threading.
TF I don't think so. I get this popup sometimes, and usually it happens
TF after there was a problem retrieving mail from that account. As long
TF as there is no problem, the popup doesn't pop up.
I get this sometimes as well. I usually hit cancel and leave it be. I
think it does have something to do with the server it's retreiving from.
Most of my accounts do NOT display this box, but few do, and even then
it is not all the time.
I WILL add that the ones that do are the webbased email accounts I have set
to retreive via Web2Pop (ie: email.com/hotmail.com) in TB!. I have no problems
with this window when retrieving email via POP3 webbased (ie:
USA.net) or ISP provided emails.
ARGH! *sheepish grin*
2000-06-28 Thread Angel
Hello fellow Bataholics!
Got a problem here...
I have been AFK and haven't had the chance to
brush up to current on TBUDL mails so please forgive me if this has
already been covered...at least concerning the version of TB! I am
using... v1.44 .
I moved an Account, meaning I held ALT down and dragged it to the top
of my Accounts list in TB!. HOWEVER: I have "lost" all the folders
therein, except for the Inbox. It is NOT showing all the folders in this
account, which ARE on my HDD, and if I edit Account/Properties/Files to
point to that directory, it STILL doesn't show them. I have closed
down TB!, reopened it, re-assigned the proper directory, restarted my
computer and still...no folders.
I believe I read about this a while back but it was pertaining to a
different version of TB! and I don't really remember all help that was
given, so I have no idea where to begin except for what I've already
done in the Account's properties.
Someone please help me on this: TB! is the only mail program I use and
these folders contain my Web Business info which I need to access ASAP.
Re: ARGH! *sheepish grin*
2000-06-28 Thread Angel
Hi Jast!
J  First thing to try is the keyboard-combo Shift+Ctrl+Alt+L, which
J  usually finds all lost folders in the accounts mail directory.
A HA! That was it... I couldn't remember the key-sequence but it
restored them all...had to click on the folders specifically to bring
up the emails (it showed as a ? for content @ first...) but they're
all there. Thank you thank you thank you :)
Re: ICQ incompatibilities?
2000-04-10 Thread Angel
'Allo Bataholics!
   But I`ve noticed that, when I have TB running, the contact list of
   my ICQ (99b v 3.19 build#2969, is the lastest), regardless of my
   settings (always on top), disappears and go back, behind all
   windows.
I am using ICQ 99b beta.v3.17 build #2565. I can try to help?
Go into your preferences, make sure the
boxes ARE ticked for "Always on top" , "Make floating users always on
top". I have the "Autohide delay" DISABLED (NOT ticked) and the
"Make contact list pop up upon incoming event" DISABLED... I need to
get the newer version but haven't had a problem with ICQ staying on
top thus far...TB! running or not, ICQ docks on top, botton, left or
righthand side of the screen.
Ciao! :D
Re: BEST EVER
2000-02-23 Thread Angel
Hi Lance!
Ive been Internet-addicted since '94, computer-addicted since around '82. I had AOL
first, along with Juno (gag @ both) then various other ISPs etc. I started using
Eudora in
'95, then tried Pegasus and was a die-hard Pegasus fan till my boyfriend (after about 5
months of Pagasus vs. TB! wars with him) finally convinced me to give TB! a shot in
late '98.
I haven't regretted it since, I don't even bother looking for other clients or
installing
them because AFAIAC (as far as I am concerned) TB! is the best their is, for what I
need
an email client for.
Welcome back! :D
Re: Why not highlighting the newest message in the folder ?
2000-02-14 Thread Angel
Hi all!
After an upgrade etc. I am BACK! :D I know this thread went way off topic but I
thought I
would give my .02 re: the original post
:D
On Saturday, February 12, 2000 at 18:09:08 , Homesick scribbled:
HM The  message  highlighted / viewed is the last viewed message from some
HM earlier  session,  and  _not_  the  newest  one just arrived. Not OK, I
HM guess.
HM Why  is  this  happening  and am I missing some configurable option/setting
HM here?
Hi there Mac..
At first I found this to be a tad annoying. Then I realized it's usefulness in that it
keeps my "new messages", well, "New". If it were to start at the "last" or , most
recent
message received, then it would mark that as "read" upon opening the folder.
Scenario: Sometimes I get a ton of email in one folder. While I *do* have them sorted
accroding to creation time, I do tend to hop around within some folders reading mail
"out of order" . (TB! doesn't have settings for which emails are most important within
a
folderso I tend to get a lot of excersise LOL)
If I have to leave my desk, which with 3 kids happens A LOT (*rolling eyes...* lol),
and
TB! checks for email in the meantime, the highlight will always stay where I was at the
time I left. It will leave the new unread messages as "new", and I wont get "lost".
Also, if I accidentally click somewhere either changing the folder or unintentionally
closing TB!, when TB! opens up again or after I click back to whatever folder I was in,
Voila! TB! is showing me where I left off so  I dont have to sort thru a gajillion
emails to find out where I was. Expecially since within some folders I tend to "jump
around a bit" as I mentioned before.
In some respects and to some users it is and may be an annoying thing for the
highlight to
behace this way, but for *me personally* I find it very useful..and Lord knows it's
saved some hair
from being ripped out of my head in frustration. LOL
*smile*
Oh!! I don't think anyone mentioned it, (the thread went WAYYyy off topic so I haven't
read thru *every* message) but, you CAN set the "time" for TB! to mark each message
as "READ".
Go to Account Properties / Options / Time Of Reading To Mark A Message As Read.
I have mine set to 5 seconds. That way even if I skim over messages with the arrow
keys,
INCLDING some slowloading HTML mails (not *all* HTML mails open slow...), if I don't
stop
and "read" them they will remain as "Unread". Set it to whatever your personal
preference
is, but that setting may be helpfuleven if the manner of highlighting is slightly
annoying for your personal preference :D
Sorry for the belated post :D And it's only my opinion :D
~~~Angel ...your RDR "I am out of my mind..but please feel free to leave a message at

Account/Email recovery help needed :D

2000-02-06 Thread Angel

Hello fellow Bataholics!

Got a question:
After reinstalling TB! after a major crash, my boyfriend went thru to re-setup all
the
accounts to what they were before crash. The first one he tried got an error, that the
mailbox had
been corrupted. It is saved as a file "???bad.tmp". Every other account has been
re-setup fine,
just that one got "corrupted". :/

I think (but cannot be sure) that it was explained on this list how to recover a
mailbox after such
an error with all the emails intact. Can anyone help?

He is running Win98 v2 (I have been on his case about upgrading but
he's  *ARGH!* a
procrastinator...) Using TB! 1.36.

Thanks in advance,

AFAIK, no. Hotmail does not offer POP3 access from other email programs.
It *does*, however, offer to *Retrieve* email via POP3 from up to 4 other accounts.
But Hotmail is strictly a web-based email service.

If you want, I know of some good "free email" services offered on the WWW which
include POP3 and

Re: Anybody else notice?

2000-02-03 Thread Angel

On Thursday, February 03, 2000 at 11:27:44 , Dieter scribbled:

DH My time is too precious to waste it with messages from people refusing to reveal
DH their  real  names.
DH This group definitely is no place to hide behind an alias.
Wha ? ?
Angel isn't my real name FYI. But it HAS been by nickname for the longest time.
I "personally" don't "hide", I made the CHOICE NOT to release my real name to just
any Tom, Dick, or nickname. I am not paranoid, but the internet IS the internet.
It is and will not ever be 100% secure. And I am sure I am not the only one who feels
this way, nor will I be the last, and I've been "burned" before. Once burned twice
shy,  nothing to
hold against me either.

Yes, this list IS a legit and good one but: I found your comments were rude and
uncalled for regarding
your prejudice againt people on this list who do not use their real name.
You may just be missing out on some very informative stuff and useful information from
these people.

You see, just because I choose to use a nickname instead of my real one doesn't mean I
have
less to offer or that I am wasting anyones time.
You want my real name? This is the internet..so get to know me..let me get to know
you. When
*I* feel comfortable with you, you might know my name. Otherwise, this is a LIST, on
the INTERNET,
no one person really gets to "know" EVERYone, so I prefer to use my longtime nickname.

So I proudly introduce myself:
I am Angel. Greetings to those who are new to the list, nice to see you here..
and a *wave* to those who have already "read" me.
And if the fact I don't use my real name on this list goes against list rules? I am
sorry..
I'll resign from it.  :(

Apologies for the long post, or if it offended anyone or got anyone angry. I just had
to say
something in defense of myself (and possibly others..) seeing as how we are treading
these waters.
I'm not hiding, I'm not "out for anything", I'm here to read and learn and possibly on
occasion
help regarding the best email program out there IMPO. That's all :D

Re: HTML

2000-02-02 Thread Angel

On Monday, January 31, 2000 at 18:44:53 ,dMb scribbled:
 (a) attach the HTML file to the message;
 (b) clear *everything* from the message editor, that is, leave your message
 blank in TB.
 TB will send the message as if it were just HTML, i.e. it won't attach the HTML,
 it will rather use HTML as the body of the message.

d I'm forced to run/use Outlook on an NT setup. It didn't work.
FWIW: Im on Win98 2nd edition

d I got a blank message, with two files attached; the html coded page
d and the image.
I got that also, till I did it as noted below...

d I'm open to suggestions on how to get this to work.
I tried it...and it kinda worked (Explained below...):

I created New BLANK Message *No signature, nothin'..
Clicked "UTILITIES"
Chose "ATTACH FILES"
Chose "SEND MIME"*I think someone had mentioned to "send MIME" in a previous
email...
Browsedfound file(s) *I had to do each file one at a time
Attached an HTML file and a photo file
Sent to myself

It worked, with one problem. For some reason it "renamed" my picture file, and
therefore
it didnt appear in the message received. BUT: the HTML coding showed the document
correctly...sans photo. :/

Give that a shot and see if it works... you didn't mention sending MIME so that is why
I
wrote... :D

Hello fellow Bataholics!

I don't know how I configured it
but I have Netscape 4.7 as my default browser and the clickable URLs in TB! work
whether
Netscape is open or closed. It will bring up Netscape if it's closed, and use the

Just general info: I use Opera AWA IE... different browsers for different "jobs" :D But
Netscape is my default.

For the most part, the emails are in the order showing the *most recent* first

I don't know what the literal difference is or what the technical explanation would

On Friday, January 21, 2000 at 07:19:52 ,Thomas scribbled:

TF Have you tried:
TF view - sort by - received time
TF instead?
The only reason I have it sort by creation time is because when I tried it by Received
time, for
some reason the emails in the thread seem to jump all over the place as to which one
came
first etc. It takes some servers forever to receive things, which accounts for someone
asking me: "have you gotten this yet?" and I haven't, yet they emailed it hours ago.
AFAICT, the creation time keeps Re:'s in more order, then I don't have to be clicking
all over
to figure out who wrote what when. :D I've tried every combo possible and this is what
works for me :D

Re: Possible Bug ??

2000-01-14 Thread Angel

On Friday, January 14, 2000 at 13:29:52 ,Nick scribbled:

NA My original TBBETA filter has the List Address as "Recipient", but it
NA didn't seem to catch any messages with the Beta List address in the Cc:
NA box. How would you set up a filter to catch messages with a certain
NA address in the Cc: line?
MY TBUDL filter:
SOURCE FOLDER: Inbox
STRING: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
   Location: Sender

SOURCE FOLDER: Inbox
TBBETA filter:
STRING: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
   Location: Sender

Also keep in mmind that the filters go from top of the list to bottom. So if your
filter-list looks somsething like this:
TBUDL
TBBETA
SomeOtherFilter ,
TB! will look at the TBUDL filter first, then TBBETA and so onwhich is why,
personally, I almost always tick the "override existing filters" box when creating
a new filter.

I have mine set this way, that way it finds TBUDL first. I believe you can set up
"alternative" 's for each filter... it's one of the tabs when you open your
Filter-Options. This confuses me so I don't use them, but I believe you can set as
"alternative rule" within your TBBETA filter it when it's in the CC: address ...
And you can always add filter strings within an existing filter. Maybe you can put an
additional string in TBBETA's filter for:
CC: TBUDL [EMAIL PROTECTED]
with the LOCATION:  kludges

*shrug* haven't tried that one yet...dunno if you have to
have your VIEW KLUDGES option turned on in your Editor settings or not to use that,
but I
don't know.
Anyone else have any ideas, or know?? :D

Possible Bug ??

2000-01-14 Thread Angel

Hello fellow Bataholics!

I am using
Version 1.39 Beta/1Registered
Under Windows 98 4 .10 Build

Description:
After selecting multiple emails to REDIRECT, and ticking the "Address All Messages
To The Address Below" option in popup-box then hitting "OK",
TB! gets an EAccessViolation message and the program shuts down completely.

While attempting to Redirect 3 different messages to a single recipient this morning,
I got an EAccessViolation after ticking the box:
Address All Messages..." and selecting the address to send to.

One of the errors read:
Exception EAccessViolation in module THEBAT.EXE at FFc00EE2
Access Violation at address 2126. Read of address . The #'s changed each
time
but the wording was the same, and TB! shuts down.

I have attempted redirecting 3 and 2 emails at one time, each time ticking the "Address
all messages..." box and selecting the address to send to, and I got an error each
time.

To Reproduce:
Go to any folder and select a couple messages. Click REDIRECT, and tick "Address All
Messages..." box. After you're done choosing an address, click OK. You will then get
the
error and it will shut down TB!.

The "Open Seperate Editor Windows" option does *not* produce an error and opens the
messages fine.
Selecting only *1* message to redirect does not produce the error at all
but opens the message editor up, with the message ready to be addressed. TB! worked
fine
upon Restore, Restart and Reboot, but the error remained...and still does.

Have no clue as to how to get around this.

Regards,
~~~Angel ... your RDR
*ps: Did I report this correctly? lol This is my first time..didn't want to send to RIT
till you more experienced users can confirm it *is* a bug... thanks :D
Hello there Bataholics!
An afterthought...and also FMPI (For My Personal Information) as I am just
I notice that Thomas and Nick are using Win98 build 1998... I am using
Would the Version differences point this problem towards being version-specific? That
if it's not a swap-problem as Thomas suggested
NA Not sure what you mean by that Angel... do you mean they have a specific
What I meant was that when I first installed TB!, it had a "signature" already in the
template, which composed itself automatically per the information I entered while
setting
up the account. (Some of my accounts still have this in there, as I don't use those
accounts to *write*. Consequetly, I haven't changed them :D )
Example:
Best Regards,
I did not notice that it even *had* a signature (let alone such customizeable
until I sent my first email. Then it was "What *IS* that? Can I alter it?" Sure enough
I
could. That is all I meant by that, perhaps I was unclear. I hope I've anwered your Q
I may not have the correct answer, but I don't use the mailto: in my TBUDL-list
simply because I know the readers will be using TB! (or they should be LOL) But when
writing email using my "regular" template, I use mailto: as well as
a href="[EMAIL PROTECTED]"Angel/A
simply because some people I write to users who use various email clients, such as
Re: Interview with RITLabs! Finally!
2000-01-12 Thread Angel
On Wednesday, January 12, 2000 at 16:04:18 ,Claudius scribbled:
CR Steve Lamb, is it time to leave this mailing list??? Do you have any respect
CR for other people in you? Respect for my culture?
Forgive me Claudius, but your response does not help the situation. You should've done
with
this what I did..*take it into private*.
I don't like arguing of any kind. But when done in a public fora, let alone one which
is
supposed to be a help/informative one, I absolutely detest it. It does not belong here
k?
My suggestion is to take this offlist. Please? It has overridden the genre of this
particular thread AFAICT and is unneccesary.
Thanks buches, and havea great day! :D
Regards,
~~~Angel

Re: Mailer Daemon and other confusing stuff....

2000-01-10 Thread Angel

To give credit where credit is due...
Thanks to Allie and Marck this odditiy has been fixed on my end. Thanks guys! :D And
please
forgive me (Syrafil et al..) for being a dizzy redhead ...it's been an odd week LOL

Maybe that fix should be placed in the Mailing List Introduction Email or something?
Because some people *may* set the Reply To: addy in their Identity as "TBUDL@" just
like I did.

Anyone???

I have a question

2000-01-10 Thread Angel

Hello fellow Bataholics!

I have a question..now that I have completely jumbled up my template for this mailing
list (because of that little *weensy* ReplyTo problem I had...), I was wondering if
anyone has "Reply" templates that work well. Mine seems to be goofed up a little, and
I have to manually (UGH!) Edit the msg before I send it. I'm looking for a template
with a
good "Reply-to-this-address" macro in it so when I hit the Reply button, it gives the
correct Replied-to address in the msg-edit window.

God did that make sense? :/

Thanks in advance,
~~~Angel  your RDR
AM Angel, go to Account|Properties|Templates|Reply and make sure that
Yup, both of you are correct. Thanks bunches! I had forgotten about that setting :D
MA Hi TBUDL,
Hi there!
MA   the question is how do I get the initials (in)correctly shown for the quoted
reply text?
Click on the ACCOUNT that the folder resides in.
(For example,
I have the TBUDL folder under my ANGEL account.
I would click on ANGEL)
Then right click, then choose PROPERTIES. Click on TEMPLATES, then choose REPLY. On the
bottom, there should be box under "Sender Information Used For Quotation". T the box:
"Initials", then click OK to save.
.
MA   There  no folder specific options for initials, they seem to be only
MA   for the whole account.
This is a template which is folder specific for one of my folders:
%SINGLERE
On %ODATE at %OTIMELONG ,%OFROMFNAME wrote:
%QUOTES
%Cursor
The " %QUOTES " macro enables the "Initial" quotation for whenever I reply to an email.
Much like what you see above where it says MA [txt].
Hope this helps :D
Regards,
~~~Angel

Re: Problem with TB on Win98

1999-11-14 Thread Angel

Wolfgang just installed TB on a new PC under Win98/2.
Wolfgang On startup error msg 'Out of system resources' is displayed.
Wolfgang Only the outer window is displayed, no folder pane etc.

Wolfgang I doubt that it is really a TB problem,
No problems here... Win98/2
