Right. Only choice, if you want to disable flying bat for all accounts is Preferences/Options/General and deselect both "Animate" options. But that is for ALL accounts.

As far as I can tell, the flying bat can not be set for specific accounts or

Options/Preferences/Message List/Mail Ticker/Folders and make sure none of the

No ideas about the A or P as I see the received date there. Maybe

I had hoped to be able to show you what appears on my

I'll have to describe what I'm seeing instead.

I have not been able to determine what the green square is
which is also displayed on my ticker just as you describe.
The A and P might be the AM or PM associated with
the time of receipt of the message as that is what my ticker
shows below the size. I don't know why your ticker would
not show the time properly but we have seen some display
problems caused by Windows font size. You can search the
Bat! mail archive here:

Best of luck.

After another test I see that MFPA's guess regarding mail
priorty is correct. I just sent myself a message and
changed it to high priorty before sending. Upon receipt the
formerly green square displayed in the ticker has been
replaced by a red square with an arrow in it.

I tested this with a low priority message and I think that you
are correct. It had a square with a downward arrow (and the From:
and Subj: info was dimmed!). I then noticed that when I was
composing a message and clicked on the Options Menu to select Low
Priority, the icons to the left of the priority selections looked
just like the ones in the Mail Ticker.

Also, when I sent my original message I had only seen one P but
subsequently noticed many more and no As. I (eventually!)
realized that I had sent my message around Noon and that the A/P
display must be a failed attempt to show me the time of
reception. Switching to non-Thin view shows the date below the
A/P but still no time shown.

Well, since the main purpose for me in the Mail Ticker is to pop
up when *any* mail has arrived (replacing the flapping bat wings)
the actual content of the Ticker is of less importance.

I actually am a little surprised that there is so little
customization of the Ticker available. I would expect RitLabs to
allow me to determine what is shown for each new message or even
just the number of new messages, since if there are many, I have
to wait an unknown amount of time to see that info. Oh well,
maybe a wishlist item.

Thanks for all of your assistance, Batteers!

I don't recall if there was ever the new message option from the folder

Does it show if you select to display 'Always'? If not, it may be that,
for some reason, it is being displayed off screen. In this case, check
the Registry 'Left' and 'Top' values in:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RIT\The Bat!\Ticker

and set them both to zero. This should bring the Ticker to the top left
corner of your screen.

reproducible and appreciate your efforts.

9 OK, I'll test it

I'm not sure that I made clear that it's within the View Folder
message window that I'm clicking on the arrow.

However, it may have been that it's only corrupt local settings for
me. Been going on since I downloaded v. 2.12.00. But only this
morning, after bothering you about it, I had a brainstorm.

I created a new folder, TBUDL2, and copied all the mails from the
TBUDL folder to it. Then I deleted the TBUDL folder. (Incidentally,
with select-all and copy to folder the mails moved in a flash. And
with a progress graph, too. Most delightful.)

After that, I created a new TBUDL folder and moved the mails back to
it (not to have to change my filter) and now that folder is stable,
like all the others.

So, I can't reproduce that error any more. :) I am so happy that I
finally thought of doing that!

Thank you again, so very much, for your time, 9Val. You are my Hero!!

Jumpy Mail Ticker

2004-09-02 Thread Mary Bull
Hello 9Val!

It was truly comforting to me to read your response to Miguel on tbudl
in

mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED] ,

where you said, among a lot of other great things:

9 ... As you probably know, in most cases every evening I make a
9 daily build for internal testing ...

So, if building and testing is still going on, is there a chance you
can have a look at why the mail ticker is still jumping?

Additionally, since I don't consistently read my mail with the ticker
the way Paul Cartwright and some others do, I have a focus problem
which might be related:

When I begin to select messages in the main window from the folder
message lists, I use Sort by Received time, descending order and
Thread by, None. I like to just go down through the mails
chronologically, since I read everything.

So, I read a message. Then I click on the blue Next arrow. And
instead of the next September 2, 2004, message, I will get one from
February 25, 2004. Or from August 2. Or June 15. It's random. Usually
from the same folder, but not always.

I can re-set the conditions. (It doesn't seem to matter whether I've
chosen No View Mode or Generic View Mode.) Then they will stay stable
and I can use the blue Next arrow reliably, until I go to look in
another folder. When I come back, the focus is jumpy again.

I hoped that this would not carry over from v. 2.12.00 to v. 3.0.

However, just like the jumpy mail ticker--to which I wonder if it
might not be related--it continues as a minor annoyance.

Thank you for considering this problem, if you have the time.

I appreciate everything you have done with TB! and your excellent
communication with all of us more than words can say!

I am still truly enjoying the Smileys, and I think the Roguemoticons
in the headers are among the best recent additions to TB!'s unique set
of features.

Changing back to Automatically does not help, nor does

I guess the window parameters of the ticker got disturbed.

I think that we are indeed experiencing the same thing. I am old, and
I can't recall registering there, but I most probably did--late in
2002 when I first got The Bat!

At that time I had a Compaq 4540 with 2.99 GB hard drive and Win95B as
the OS. My domain and ISP were the same, Premiernet. This company has
now gone out of business. And I've moved to a different city, with a
new computer (well, new since December 2003), a new ISP, and a new
e-mail address.

I haven't a clue what I might have chosen as my user name and password
at Bug Tracker. I was pretty green then, paranoid also, and made up
all sorts of passwords without writing them down anywhere.

So, effectively I'm disenfranchised. And I guess you are, too.

PN Maybe someone else who is reading this thread will add it for us.

I hope so.

As I look at this exchange between us, I'm thinking the problem
deserves a new thread. I'm going to see if I can craft a new subject
line for it.

And just did. Any suggestions for what Perry and I can do about this?

virtual folder with the messages in it.

Highlight Open MailTicker messages and then Right Click on it and
choose Edit. There you'll get a window where you can enter the keys
   you want to use.

I wonder is this is a newly added Shortcut key item? You are using a
new version of The Bat than I am...

If so, I don't think that is possible with a hot key.

I thought so.

I use the mail ticker for my business account only. There are times
when I just want to turn it off instead of reading messages. This
doesn't happen very often (I usually read the message immediately or
ignore the ticker for a few minutes).

But there are times when I am in the middle of something and the
ticker is distracting. I've tried making the actual scroll box really
small, but it still gets in the way on those few occasions.

Selecting Options - Preferences - Display Mail Ticker isn't that big
of a deal, but it would be nice to just quickly toggle the ticker
(that's a phrase that needs saying more) Plus, I sometimes forget
to turn the ticker BACK ON when I'd like it to be on.

Displaying the Connection Center has the ability to assign shortcut
keys, so I thought Mail Ticker should as well (they are grouped
together in Preferences).

Also, I REALLY wish some of the shortcuts assignments could be actual
toggles and not one shortcut for ON, one shortcut for OFF.

Think about it: shouldn't the Connection Center shortcut simply be
toggle on if off, toggle off if on?

Actually, I agree it would be a valuable addition if the programming
team could create a special class of On-Off hot key that could be used
with a variety of items of the user's choice where on and off are the
  obvious states.

From the UI side, I can see it as a simple question, Set as toggle?,

or no when creating a shortcut. When answered in the affirmative, the
key would function as a toggle. What must take place behind the scenes

I have found the developer (at Alexander Mohr

+class:Shell_TrayWnd to make the Win XP taskbar transparent
Connecting* to make my dialup window transparent

* Transperizer v0.5 (freeware) -
  ftp://sunsite.cnlab-switch.ch/mirror/winsite/win95/miscutil/transperizer.exe

Of these, I could make Actual Transparent Windows, Froost, Transparent
Windows and Transperizer recognise the Message Ticker. ATW, Froost and
Transperizer allow you to set different levels of transparency for
different windows. The Transparent Windows appears just to have a
single global level of transparency that is either on or off for
 individual windows.

If you are prepared to pay $19.95, ATW appears to be the most stable
and functional application, and pretty reasonable value for money. Of
the freeware applications, Transperizer appears more stable, although
both are a bit clumsy to use.

Note that I could find both v0.4.4 and v0.5 of Transperizer on the

AAG trans2k DON'T see mail ticker as RUNNING application.

Same applies to PowerMenu.. there is no window (aka system) menu for
the MailTicker and ''PowerMenu -transparency MailTicker 70'' does
not work for the same reason..

AAG I guess, that any thirdparty require some Application with standart

You can change the only the font, ticker width and ticker scrolling
speed through the right click context menu.

AAG or make it transparent ?

You'll need to use a third party app for that.

I don't think you can enable/disable it by account, but you certainly
can by folder. Just enable it for the folders in your main account
disable it for the rest :-)

You can do this on a folder-by-folder basis by right-clicking the
folder, choosing Properties, then clicking the General tab, and then
selecting or clearing show unread messages on MailTicker(tm)

Unfortunately, I don't think that there's a way to do this on a
per-account basis.

Hello Joseph,

Why force anyone to go one way or the other? Optional features are
always best. If you don't want messages in Quarantine (or any other
folder) to show on the ticker, disable it. But, what if I had my
reasons to show them? Don't you think I should be able to decide?

Miguel,

Normally I'd answer 'yes.' In this case, though, I would agree with
the option only if (and, thinking about it, this is the better choice)
the default were that the tickler is disabled, not enabled. The
danger, it seems to me, is too great that a user--either
unsophisticated or just busy--will click the tickler to open a package
that has actually been quarantined. Although a good AV program might
keep the package from opening, it's still an unnecessary risk.

Well, I can imagine situations that make it a plus to be able to alert
oneself immediately when you're receiving suspect mails.
Especially when you're running a support function on your work or your
LAN. In such a case you'd like to be the first to be notified when
someone in your department starts spreading viruses.

So the present situation is perfect, you can decide for yourself.

I'm not sure about the default. My quarantine folder has 'Show unread
messages on mail ticker' unchecked and I certainly didn't uncheck it.
Only 'sent messages', 'trash' and 'quarantine' have that option
unchecked, so I guess the default is as it should be.
