Hi rmac321,

Thanks!

It should be noted that the [ Wifi Settings ] page generates an
encrypted passphrase type wpa_supplicant.conf. This is the new "normal".
So if you created your wifi settings via wpa_supplicant.conf on boot
partition or insitu upgrade methods (using a password), when you go into
[ Wifi Settings ] you need to re-enter password and the country code and
press [Save]. This is the quickest way to do from the old to the new.

So for using passphrases you don't need to use "#Maintained by user"
method.

ATM we don't convert wifi passwords to wifi passphrases during a
wpa_supplicant.conf on boot partition or insitu upgrade.

Yeah, I only noticed an old wifi.db a couple of days ago, have to get
rid of that! We don't use or load that file anymore but there may be a
copy in your mydata backup. It is save to delete, but you need to a
[Backup] to overwrite you old backup file.

regards
Greg

pCP team,

The new website is quite nice. Unfortunately the old site still
generates a lot of hits on a google search, so consider adding more
links to the new website on more pages of the old site so people know
they are looking at the old info. Depending on how someone got to the
old site, they may stumble around a while before they hit the link to
the new site.

pCP team,

Thanks a bunch for the ability to write our own wpa_supplicant.conf.
This now gives us the ability to use the encrypted passphrase instead of
plain text. Bonus, we can have more than one network configuration!
Thanks for this!

For those that take advantage of the encrypted passphrase, remember to
delete the commented out plain text password before you cut and paste it
into your wpa_supplicant.conf file or it will be readily viewable from
the pCP diagnostics pages. Also note that if you did an insitu upgrade,
the old plain text wifi.db file is probably still lurking in your home
folder.

Paul,
Just in case it is an issue. In regard to insitu updates. It has been
a few days since I did this, but I found I could not do an insitu update
directly from 3.22 to 4.0b7. It kept giving me an error (but I didn't
record the error at the time it happened). I was able to go 3.22 ->
3.50 and then 3.50 -> 4.0b7. Probably just because of the changes to
the new repo location. FWIW, From the thread it looks like others may
have upgraded from earlier versions, so perhaps my issue was a temporary
obstacle. Thought I should report just in case.

I've heard of the USB issue before, I'm not sure what folks did to
resolve it. I would think it's somewhere in the waveshare thread. It
would be best to talk about it there, as it will get lost in the pCP
threads.

Hi Paul

I owe you an apology for wasting your time; It seems that the
information on the Goodix touch controller was incorrect. It now appears
that the Waveshare HDMI driven screens try and imitate the standard RPi
displays, hence no need to install a driver, which is why I had to
nothing more than set the resolution.

Almost by accident, I found that if I unplug and re-plug the USB
connector on the display, the touch facility works. Any ideas on this?

All I have to do now is calibrate the screen...

Just reference the module by the full pathname. For me it works about
50% of the time, which should never happen. But there could be some
other conflict...and it could be something odd with the RT kernel

There is a symlink that connects both of them. You can try to run

sudo depmod -a

Then try to load the module again.

That's what I thought, and tried previously, with the following result:

Code:

tc@Cossor-PCP:~$ sudo modprobe goodix.ko
  modprobe: FATAL: Module goodix.ko not found in directory
/lib/modules/4.14.56-rt34-pcpAudioCore_v7

Is it now a case of copying the goodix.ko file from the
/usr/local/lib/modules/4.14.56-rt34-pcpAudioCore_v7/kernel/drivers/input/touchscreen
directory to /lib/modules/4.14.56-rt34-pcpAudioCore_v7 ?

Hi Paul

I've been back through my progression with this screen (started with
Rune before progressing to pCP) and all I've ever had to do is modify
the config.txt file to set the resolution. It is the 'c' version of the
screen, with HDMI and USB connectors.

Any other suggestions?

Those changes would not be built in to the base image.

Take a look back through the waveshare thread.

One thing to note is that do_rebootstuff.sh is now called pcp_startup.sh

I'm running a RPi 2B, with a Waveshare 7" 1024 x 600 screen. Up to and
including V3.50, the touch on the screen worked. However, with V4.0b7,
there is no touch facility. Other than that, everything works fine.

This is the entry I use in config.txt to enable the screen:

Code:

#Custom Configuration Area, for config settings that are not managed by pCP.
  #pCP will retain these settings during insitu-update
  #---Begin-Custom-(Do not alter Begin or End Tags)-
  # Added by APE for 7" screen
  hdmi_drive=1
  hdmi_group=2
  hdmi_mode=1
  hdmi_mode=87
  hdmi_cvt 1024 600 60 6 0 0 0
  #---End-Custom

My pCP journey started at V3.21, so I may have done something in the
early days with Jivelite etc that carried through to V3.5 during in situ
upgrades; but with V4.0b* I had to flash a new image (in situ upgrade
would not work; squeezelite would not start)

Any help, pointers etc would be appreciated...

Hi Tim,

I can confirm the Allo DigiOne works fine on pCP4.0.0-b7 on a RPi3+.

Try going from [Allo Digione] to [Analog out] to [Allo Digione].

What is "Output setting" set to?

We will have to wait a few months to test it on 4.6 and 4.7 as we

Hi David,

I don't follow what you are saying.

Do you have "debug" mode on in error? Do you see orange [ DEBUG ]
messages everywhere?

What browser are you using?

You probably need to post a screen shot.

Both beta versions were installed on a reformatted card. I can try doing

Thankyou for a fantastic piece of software!

Hi Paul!

Thank you for the help! Now it's running. I tryed every DAC again. Now
it's working. The right setup is the HiFiBerry DAC Zero /MiniAMP.
This is the first series DAC board, normal DAC. Not the DAC+. With only
26 gpio pin. They wrote on the board: HiFiBerry R1.5.

Thanks:

Thanks for replying. 4.0.0 boots faster, so it gets to the point where
it needs to mount the root partition quicker.hence needing a little
more delay.

Since you are using this option, there is an option you might want to
add to your config.

dtoverlay=sdtweak,poll_once

This will keep the system from continually looking for a SDcard, if you
run with nothing in the slot. If you put that line in the custom area
of config.txt, it will be retained through updates.

The Simple version looks like an old card control file left over from
upgrades, we no longer use that option. But depending on the version of
the kernel that you are running there are different options.

In the Standard version of pcp, the settings for any ES90xx dac, just
use the hifiberry drivers. The hifiberry driver is just a basic I2S
driver, so it works. There is no "official" open source driver for ess
products. In the Audio kernel, we have added a driver that was
developed by JackofAll. It's a very basic driver, as any of the real
control of ESS dacs is protected by NDA's and ESS will not allow for
folks to publish an open source driver. I'm not sure how long that
driver will be around, since JOA no longer publicly develops, and the
kernel structure is changing. There are a few drivers floating around
the net (And some distros include it) but that driver violates the ESS
license, so we don't include it.

Enter the Katana, this is a ESS based DAC product, but in order for them
to publish a driver, they had to bolt on a Microcontrolleer to control
the dac. The microcontroller code is protected, however the control of
the microcontroller is open source. But it will do you no good trying
that driver on other ESS dacs.

Works fine, I run 3 systems that way. You likely need to increase the

- what is the difference between them ?

pCP running Ratlink wifi dongle, SSID "Spotty Dogs 5" on v3.50 updated
to v4.0.0-b7 re-connected via wifi, all working.
Will run a second update on a different pCP to re-verify. Well done!

Hi John,

RPi0W works for me. It's one for my test RPi's. You have to be careful
moving SD card between quad core and single core RPi's. Although
initially the SD card are the same, once you start loading extensions
the SD cards can't be swapped between single and quad core RPI's. So it
may or may not work depending on what extensions are loaded!

Start with a fresh image (pCP4.0.0-b7) and stick a good
wpa_supplicant.conf on the boot partition and that should be it.

regards
Greg

Many thanks - beta7 now accepts the share name in the correct format.

The mount shows up in settings so I will play with that tomorrow.

I did try just music in beta5 and it seems to work but then throws an
error and clears the enabled flag.

There are issues with netshare pattern matching.

Please try the latest beta7

Changes in Beta7

*Fix for wifi cards not being recognized during insitu update, and
correction for certain drivers that are not functioning with the nl80211
driver
*Fix for Net Mount patterns.specifically nfs.
*Modification for CIFS mounts to not display the password on the web
interface, if you need to change options, you will need to re-enter the
password.

I took the opportunity to install 4.0 B6 real-time kernel on a new,
faster, SD-card. So far, works perfectly with RPi 3+ and Digione and
running LMS too (despite the dire warnings). As a bonus, it now seems
to synch properly with my Squeezebox Radio (3.5.0 would drop-out every
10-15 secs). Great work guys and a slick website too.

Several are using zeroW's just fine (Me included) An open
network.That is flat crazy.but whatever.

Open network is an option on the web page, but with a zeroW, you need to
manually configure this, as you don't have a network.

Create a wpa_supplicant.conf on the boot partition. Per this web page.
https://www.picoreplayer.org/how_to_setup_wifi_on_pcp_without_ethernet.shtml

The contents of your file should look like this
# Maintained by user
ctrl_interface=/var/run/wpa_supplicant
ctrl_interface_group=staff
# Two Character Country Code
country="GB"
update_config=1

network={
ssid="yourssid"
key_mgmt=NONE
}

The router is a NetComm NF18ACV modem/router as supplied by Aussie
BroadBand. I will take a look in diagnostics. I had used the MAC address
as reported by the router for wireless connection, but when connecting
wirelessly it did not use the selected IP addy that I put against that

Hi Paul, am having trouble getting a static IP to work for LAN. I took
your advice and set up a fixed address for Raspberry Pi pCP using MAC
address (with my router that is under IPv4 autoconfig) using the MAC
address that my router reports for the Raspberry Pi cPC, and have set
pCP STATIC IP to DHCP. WIFI is turned on. For good measure I have also
set up STATIC IP (eth0) to my selected IP address as well, even though
it is probably superfluous. For extra good measure I have also set the
WIFI (wlan)) to my prefered IP address; DHCP also checked there. WIFI is
turned on and SSID, password etc., country all filled in and saved. It
links to WIFI ok, but connects to my router on a random IP address. I
have of course also tried the LAN connection with WIFI turned off but
all other settings as stated above.

I have no reason to think that the router is not setting the static IP
using MAC as I have tested with other devices, and it locks them in to
the nominated IP. Seems odd that pCP is evasive to the router's
settings.

I hope that all makes sense.

Cheers, David

I have a strange behaviour.
After successfully upgrading from 3.5 to 4.0.0-b4 w/o removing the SD
card, I thought that it might be handy to save my current config to USB.
Just in case that I "can go back" if there are any technical problems in
the future. (It was at least my understanding that I could run a kind of
"restore of config" when I do I clean install.)

Today I know, that this is causing a failure in the next boot process.
Thereof, I did a couple of fresh installs, as I obviously caused this
problem for multiple times. In the meantime, I am on -b6.
Today I deleted the config file on USB, when the system was not able to
boot. Result: Boot process went smoothly.

Is this a bug?
Is this a handling issue? Is it not forseen to run a reboot on the same
system after saving the config to USB?

Hi again Greg,

Yes I can confirm that I did steps 1 through 3 above (again). This time
yet again with a freshly flashed pCP4.0.0-b6 image.

I get the following text in the window under Save:

[ OK ] Backup successful.

When I press the scan button, it detects my wifi SSID. Furthermore, it
shows the correct wifi MAC address.

I then unplug the wired internet and reboot the device.

Upon reboot, the USB wifi adapter starts blinking showly (approx 1 Hz),
but it gets no connection. This is exactly the same behaviour as the now
almost hundred times I have done this exercise.

I have now plugged wired internet cable in again, and it immediately
gets an IP number.

In wifi diagnostics it now says under dmesg:

cfg80211  545360  1 r8188eu
rfkill 21483  1 cfg80211

Under lsusb it says:

Bus 001 Device 004: ID 0bda:8179

And for wpa_supplicant.conf it shows:

ctrl_interface=/var/run/wpa_supplicant
ctrl_interface_group=staff
country=DK
update_config=1

network={
#enc_ssid="KHMJEJ"
ssid="KHMJEJ"

key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
auth_alg=OPEN
}

I must furthermore say I now created a brand new wifi password with only
alphanumeric characters in it, and it did not help.

I have not uploaded the wifi diagnostics to pastebin with paste name:
pCP-B+-775bd5-wifi

Finally, I will repeat that I am using an old RPi 1B+ with a Hifiberry
DAC+ card and the problematic USB wifi adapter, and that this
configuration has worked for the last few years with different versions
of pCP without any problems, the latest tested version being 3.5.0.

Hope this helps identify the problem, and thanks again for your help. I
will now do at test that Paul asked me to do in a PM.

regards,

Jens Erik

Hi Jens Erik Jensen,

Can you please confirm that you have:

1. Used pCP4.0.0-b6
2. Can you get to [ Wifi settings ] page via ethernet cable
3. On the [ Wifi settings ] page, have you set SSID, password, country
code and pressed [Save]

I ask because, doing an insitu update is different from setting wifi
through [ Wifi settings ] web page.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] BETA: piCorePlayer 4.0.0

2018-08-07 Thread Greg Erskine

hi Ronnie,

pCP reads wpa_supplicant.conf from the boot area and converts it into a
real wpa_supplicant.conf

pCP only gets your SSID, password, encryption, country? values and makes
a new pCP compatible wpa_supplicant.conf.

Check wifi diagnostics and you will see your new wpa_supplicant.conf

If you really want to maintain your own, then you must include:

Code:

# Maintained by user

This will force pCP to use your wpa_supplicant.conf as is. The [Wifi
settings] page will also ignore your it. You must then manually maintain
the file with your favourite editor, vi by default.

We did it this way so pCP will correct most errors and get users up and
going with minimal effort. But, if the user knows about wpa_supplicant
then they can make the file as complex as they like and pCP will use it.
If it contains errors it is then the users problem.

Greg

Hi Greg, I have always had exclamation points in my wifi passwords, and
it has worked fine for all the versions of piCorePlayer in recent years.
Tonight, I will create a very simple password for my wifi and see if
that makes any difference. I doubt it to be honest, but I will not give
up :)

hi Jens Erik Jensen,

We want things to work as well as you do. The idea of this beta release
was to find issues that we didn't foresee. pCP4.0.0 has lots of changes,
much more than usual, and there is only so much we can test in our
environments.

I will put my money on #4. An exclamation point (!) is indeed a special
character. I am surprised it ever worked!!

The pCP4.0.0 [ Wifi settings ] web page should handle special
characters.

Can you paste your wifi diagnostics to pastebin? They expire after 24
hours.

Make sure you are using at least pCP4.0.0-b6.

I do not have LMS installed or running. It runs off a separate RPi 3, so
that cannot be the fix for my issue.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] BETA: piCorePlayer 4.0.0

2018-08-07 Thread Jens Erik Jensen

Hi Paul and Greg,

Thank you for being so helpful and not giving up on this issue.

As for Greg's troubleshooting link and the most frequent reasons for
wifi not working:

1.Wrong password.
2.Wrong SSID.
3.piCorePlayer does not support hidden SSID.
4.piCorePlayer does not support special characters in SSID or password.
5.Wifi adapter does not support wifi channel selected on wifi router.
6.USB wifi adapter and buit-in wifi adapter both trying to run at the
same time.
7.Some audio cards interfere with Raspberry Pi built-in wifi adapters.
8.Wifi drivers are gradually changing from wext to nl80211 standard.
9.Occasionally, kernel upgrades break USB wifi drivers. Unfortunately,
we can not test all USB wifi drivers prior to each piCorePlayer release.
Please report any issue.

I have of course checked 1+2+3 many times before reporting.
Regarding 4, I do have an exclamation point (!) in my password, but I
have had that for years without any issue, so I have not considered it a
special character
5 can be ruled out as all previous versions of piCorePlayer work with
that exact configuration
6 is also not an issue as it is an old RPi 1B+ without built-in wifi
7 the audio card is a Hifiberry DAC+ which has also been part of the
configuration for years, so I find this very unlikely

so, I think we are back at 8 or 9 as plausible reasons.

Paul has sent me a PM, and I will check up on his questions tonight when
I'm home and report back to him.

I could easily go back to a previous image as I do not immediately need
any of the new features in 4.0.0, but I guess my contribution to the
development is to offer my rtrequipment for testing and reporting back
issues that might affect others.

The USB wifi adapter is a relatively cheap one using a Realtek chipset,
and I have the impression that these adapters have sold in huge numbers,
so I think the issue is relevant not to invest in troubleshooting.

David,

If you would just setup your router to always pass the same address
based on MAC address, your problems would be 100% solved. DHCP is way
more reliable, and if something ever changes in your setup..change
your router, and reboot your devices, and they all get the new setup.

Static is completely different in 3.5.0, so that will not hold in
upgrades. We have not tested static between 4.0.0 and future upgrades.

Just a few things noticed in change from 3.5.0 to 4.0.0:
- newconfig.cfg does not seem to be required. I used it when installing
a fresh image of pCP 4.0.0 but after the install it had retained the
name of newconfig.cfg and the settings had not been used
- after an insitu upgrade 3.5.0 to 4.0.0 I was unable to find pCP on my
network. Didn't show in DHCP on wifi or on LAN, and I used an IP scanner
but still couldn't find it. Tried many things, LAN direct to my
computer, LAN to router, reset router, wifi to router, etc. and I was
becoming concerned that the pi3 was broken! Many cold reboots and
searching and then it appeared on a scan. Not sure why that was.
- I use a static IP address with sCP. After upgrade yesterday to b6 cPC
had "disappeared from my browser... it wasn't at the usual IP address I
thought I had lost it again! A scan showed that settings had been
changed to wireless and static IP was turned off. Easily reset, but is
it possible to maintain the static IP and wireless settings during
updates?

Cheers, David

hi Jens Erik Jensen,

I am pretty sure putting wpa_supplicant.conf in the boot partition or
using [ Wifi settings ] web page works, as I have done it hundreds of
times during testing.

We know that an insitu upgrade may have issues, we are working on that
now.

Here is an old list of wifi issue that might prompt an solution:

#3 and #4 should no longer be a problem.

BTW: My favourite wifi USB adaptor that always worked for years,
suddenly stopped working for a couple of kernels. Works perfect now!

In the past, wpa_supplicant.conf was recreated by piCore every time pCP

The worry about this card/driver is that it is staging. Which means it
is not fully developed. Kernel upgrades may break it.

I notice that you are going back to 3.02. Can you test a 3.5.0 image.

Hi Paul, I tried all sorts of things following your instructions: I have
tried to manually edit the sample wpa_supplicant.conf and place it in
the boot partition on the SD card, I have tried all possible
combinations of country=, using "DK", "US", and also commenting out the
country= line.

I even tried to do a ssh connection to the RPi and tried to use the
setup program as shown on the link provided, but that did not help
either.

I decided to abandon the upgraded 4.0.0.b5 card and flashed a freshly
downloaded 4.0.0.b6 image to a new SD card, but it was exactly the same
story, no joy. Swapping the SD card back to the old 3.02 image,
everything works as a charm again.

I also have the notion that since it can scan the network and find info
on my wifi, and since it reads the MAC address of the USB wifi adapter,
it is a very small step that is missing.

Any pointer would be greatly appreciated. I can also send diagnostics to
pastebin again if you are interested.

another thing that i discovered which is super cool is that if you are
using the c3po transcoding plugin, which everyone should by the way, it
is now possible to enable multi threading and set the buffer size

For the A/ZERO's I use newconfig.cfg to setup initial wireless... is
that gone or broken in 4.0?

2018-08-06 Thread Greg Erskine

hi DavidBulluss,

Just a few minor changes mentioned by beta testers.

- Added the missing CPUISOL variables to pcp.cfg.
- Remove obsolete scripts during insitu update.
- Encode potential spaces in password when using command line
  processing.
- Added extra warnings about kernel version in insitu update.
- Removed stray command setting DEBUG=1

Still a few more to go! :)

regards
Greg

2018-08-05 Thread paul-

Jens,

Took a look at the paste, and everything looks good, and since it can
scan, that pretty much means the wifi stick/driver is working.

Take a look at this document, can you create a wpa_supplicant.conf
following these instructions.used the #Maintained by user
version.

https://www.picoreplayer.org/how_to_setup_wifi_on_pcp_without_ethernet.shtml

The only piece that is different than previous versions is the country
code. Try to leave that out of the config.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] BETA: piCorePlayer 4.0.0

2018-08-05 Thread Man in a van

I'm just been testing something for someone and have installed v3.5.0
Standard on a rpi3B as a player only (Allo Digone).

I have the Allo case that seems to prevent the onboard WiFi of the rpi
working ( an Edimax dongle did work in a previous set up).

Anyway I removed the top and end pieces of the Allo case and the
internal Wi-Fi worked.

Performed the in-situ update over the Wi-Fi connection.

All went well and I just had to reconfigure the wireless details, plus a
couple of LMS browser page refreshes.

Everything seems to be working fine. :)
