Re: [libreoffice-users] Pivot Tables - Monthly subtotals
Well, the simple way. Select all of your Date cells with data and change the Cell format to display only the month portion of the date. When you create the pivot table, include the 'Transaction Date' column in both the Columns fields list and the Row fields list, along with Object. You could also set the Filters list to include Object if you wanted to look at Cars or Trucks. I hope that works for you, best wishes, Drew On Wed, May 19, 2021 at 3:57 PM Julian So wrote: > > Hello, > > I have data like the following: > > Transaction Date | Object | Transaction > 2021-01-01 | Car | Bought > 2021-03-01 | Car | Bought > 2021-03-15 | Truck | Bought > 2021-03-16 | Car | Bought > 2021-03-18 | Car | Sold > 2021-04-01 | Truck | Sold > > I want to create a pivot table with Transaction Date as columns, Object > as rows, and counts of Transaction as data fields . Re: [libreoffice-users] Collabora experience?
Howdy Thomas, Well, first I would direct you to an additional user support forum for questions going forward. https://forum.collaboraonline.com/ The short answer, IMO, is that you need pCloud to offer the ability to sync files on your hand held device to your cloud storage and looking at the pCloud listing feedback, at their app store listing just now, that feature appears to have a number of limitations and shortcomings at the moment, per feedback posts. You have already noted that Collabora Online (Android) only works with files stored in local storage on the handheld device. This is a feature not likely to change given the architecture of the application - but with a sync function of your local storage to a cloud account doesn't pose any real loss of functionality. So, to get what you want you need to push the pCloud folks to get that feature working properly. Re: [libreoffice-users] Logic of headers (and footers) or my lack of it!
Looking at your requirements I was curious if using captions for the images could give you what you want. If the caption was the name of the document then you can handle the different cases of single image documents vs multi-image documents in a straight forward way; Single image caption is just the name of the document. A document spanning two images would have the name of the document and which page it is. There is perhaps a bonus also in that you could generate a table of images at the front of the document which uses the caption text and offers the option to create an internal link to the page with the image. Just a thought. Fair enough what people have said. The one thing that hasn't been said is what you need to do with that that it needs to be in a database. Re: [libreoffice-users] Libreoffice office cloud version
Howdy, Good news! There is already a solution for what you are looking for. LibreOffice OnLine has been under development and available for a couple of years. You can find a user level guide to the software on the documentation page: https://documentation.libreoffice.org/en/english-documentation/ Now - the part that may not be what you are hoping for: You have to either host an instance yourself, which is both easy and hard at the same time, or find a service that offers it. At least one major email provider is offering LOOL as part of their package: gmx.com There are bunches of internet hosting providers who offer managed versions of LOOL as part of their packaged offerings. The way most folks self host today is in tandem with a file sharing or CMS type platform. One of the more common is NextCloud and LibreOffice is an available optional module that you can install from the standard control panel. Anyway, I hope that helps point in the direction you are looking to go. Best wishes, Drew On Fri, Mar 6, 2020 at 12:52 PM wrote: > Rather than saying this is a question. Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: LO Calc 6.3.5 Cell comment box
Well, when the font changes the box will grow vertically to accommodate larger font or line spacing changes even. The width of the box doesn't change automatically however. I don't know of any way to change the default font setting for comments. Which doesn't at all mean it can't be done. Re: [libreoffice-users] LO Calc 6.3.5 Cell comment box
Yes, but only for existing comments. You can not expand the size of the box when you are entering the initial comment text. In a cell with some comment text select View Comment and you can then resize the box and the custom size is retained for each cell comment changed when saved. Re: [libreoffice-users] Redaction
Howdy Dave, That is the review mode (the grey out blocks) so that the reviewers can see what is being redacted. You get that when you select the 'direct to pdf' button on the tool bar. To the left are two drop down buttons, White and Black, click either of those and you get the PDF with the final redaction. Re: [libreoffice-users] LO 6.2.x save dialog on Linux
To follow up with the last email. Recently I added KDE to my Linux desktop (had been using Gnome) and with that the file manage switched to Dolphin. Dolphin out of the box had nothing setup for the usual directory links, but it was easy enough to add them one time and after that the save dialog picks all of those up. So after a couple minutes what I had when ran under Gnome is also there under KDE. Re: [libreoffice-users] Base Firebird reserved words
Howdy, Just tried this using the latest build (yesterday) of 6.3 and created a table with two three fields named; id, Select and Integer. Used query designer to generate this SQL select statement SELECT "id", "Select", "Integer" FROM "tblKeyWords" and it is working as expected. Perhaps you mean you are passing an SQL string as a prepared statement in a Basic macro? If that is it then if you could share the line of Basic and will take a look for you, if you like. Re: [libreoffice-users] Getting a line break through a query
Howdy, The carriage return is in the string but in the case of the Query designer the result grid only displays single line data so it appears it is not there. If the query is used to populate controls on a form (grid or single field) there is a property for the control 'MultiLine Input' and default is NO. For a Grid control you would select a column and change that 'MultiLine Input' property for the column from No to Yes and the string will break. Re: [libreoffice-users] CSV import trouble (numbers & locale)
Howdy, Well, I'm using LibreOffice 6.2.3 (with Ubuntu) and have created a csv file with two data rows 12.12 12.123 Then set my global locale to Italian(Italy) and try to open the csv file. (which is using a tab to separate values btw) If in the dialog box I change the defaulted Italian(Italy) locale to English(USA) everything works as expected, with the data in the now Italian(Italy) local file: 12,12 12,123 If I do not set the locale in the import dialog to a locale which used the '.' for decimal it does not work properly. But if doing it in that order does is not working on the MAC then I would say yes you should open an issue in the bug tracker. Howdy Paul, No you don't need to go back - the parameter substitution is for problems with sub forms and now I think you are just dealing with SQL differences between HSQL and Firebird with regards to how it implements joins in select statements. Before I forget - the files used for to gather these runtime numbers are found here: https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/#/admin/projects/benchmark There are five xls files with an explanation as to what the spreadsheet is evaluating. They are 4 years old it looks like but seem to be as good as I've found for example files for this feature. Seems to me it might be worthwhile to offer them for download (maybe as a zip file) and reference that download location in the video and/or associated posting text. So, can you open that Query definition, the one that raised the error when you double clicked on it, in design view and Run it and it works? Is that what you are saying? Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: Base/Firebird Queries broken
Also - if you would prefer you can make this fix with a small basic macro. If you would rather go that way here is what you do. Open the Base file in Libreoffice. From the menu select: Tools -> Macros -> Organize Dialogs. On the Organize Dialogs dialog select the 'Libraries' tab. On this tab there is a drop down list for 'Location' Pull that down and you will see your ODB file listed, select it. Click on the button 'New' Default name should be 'Library1', choose that DO NOT PUT THIS CODE IN THE STANDARD LIBARARY With the basic editor open copy and past the following into the editor Option Explicit Sub ensureConnection() Dim DBDocUI as Object on error resume next DBDocUI = ThisDatabaseDocument.currentController if not DBDocUI.isConnected then DBDocUI.connect end if on error goto 0 End Sub Sub Main ensureConnection() ThisDatabaseDocument.DataSource.Settings.ParameterNameSubstitution = true End Sub Execute the macro - the property will be updated. Now you can remove the 'Library 1' basic library you added, it is no longer needed. PS the reason for not updating the standard library is that in Libreoffice once the Standard library is updated with anything it is difficult to drop it completely and the file, even if you remove all the code, will form then on act as if it has embedded macros when it doesn't. If you add a library with a different name however you can remove it and if standard is also empty at that time it is also removed and the file will open without the embedded macro complaint. Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: Base/Firebird Queries broken
Howdy, Yes, I have a suggestion - there is a property in the Base file which is incorrectly set during the Migration Assistant run and must be fixed. The error message looks like this is what is biting you. The fastest way to fix it is at follows: Close the base file and exit LibreOffice. Rename the base file from .odb to .zip Now open the file with your favorite zip tool. You fill find a file named content.xml in the root of the file. Open that with a text editor. Search for this string: db:parameter-name-substitution="false" Edit that so that it reads db:parameter-name-substitution="true" Save your changes. Close the zip file, it should ask if you want to update the file with the change and answer yes. Change file name back to .odb and you should be good to go. Second - LibreOffice has always had the ability to run in what is referred to as 'headless' mode. This means there is no GUI active while all the document processing functions are available. The application even has command line options specifically designed to take ODF files and generate other fie types (html for instance) from them, in this non-GUI mode. This feature is used as a backend for web applications today in production environments. You can also call macros (sriptis) from the command line and again if the macro is written properly can run just fine in this headless mode. Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: How to actually find something with Find in Calc?
Thanks for finding those issues - I guess lots of folks thinking the same thing. I tried searching the expert configuration looking for any option that might change the behavior also. Also searched the on-line help and the last version of the Calc guide and found zero entries for "Formatted Display". HMM, but given I'm supposed to be helping update that guide I suppose I know who can change that, and I will as soon as I can figure out what it is supposed to actually do ;-) For whatever it is worth I would happy if the following could be coded: Allow the setting of the option on the "Find & Replace" dialog under search[ Formulas, Values, Notes] to stick and to influence the way the "Find" toolbar searches. Off to see about adding a comment to the first issue on that, if that hasn't been suggested yet. Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: How to actually find something with Find in Calc?
Well, just to be clear - tried this with the example spreadsheet here with version 6.0.7 and 5.4.7 and using FIND does not do what the original poster is looking for. It seems the only way to find all of those values is by using FIND & REPLACE. Now I'm not sure what 'FORMATTED DISPLAY' actually does. @V Stuart I thought that also - but that isn't working, as I just proved to myself, with LO 6.2.0.1 RC1 (under Ubuntu 18.04.1) at least. Re: [libreoffice-users] lobase and postgresql views
Howdy Lou, OK, so first thing. Base does not support updating data in Views (postgres or any other database backend). Second thing, the order of your columns in a table definition in a relational database is meaningless for the most part. I know that the Base Table viewer doesn't allow you to rearrange them, but it should. Third, what the table viewer doesn't do, the grid control in forms does, so If you want to see your table in a column (grid) view and with the columns in a different order than what is in the table definition and you want to update that data you can use a form. Start with just a single table. Use the form wizard to create a form based on the table and select the default grid control for the data. (easiest way is to just start the wizard, select a table and click Done) With the physical form opened in edit mode click on the 'Design mode' button on the form toolbar, you will see the data in the grid control, now you can use the mouse to move columns around by dragging them, you can expand or condense the width of columns and change the display formatting for columns. When you have the columns arranged as you like you save the form and that will be the default view of the table layout when you open the form normally going forward. Fourth - if you need to update data in two tables Base does have limited support, but again not using Views, with queries. You join the tables there, include all the keys from both tables in the result set along with other columns you want to edit and be sure the query runs with the designer mode enabled in query builder. In those case the resultset should capable of updates. Otherwise the use of a form-subform using the two tables certainly will be. Hope that helps, Drew On Tue, Dec 4, 2018 at 2:04 AM Lou wrote: > Hi everyone, > > This is my first post here. > > I have a postgresql database with two tables with an inner join. Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: libreoffice base/postgres - null columns with trigger/default values
Hi, I would not be surprised if a change in behavior happened recently, there was some reworking of the sdbc drivers recently which I think had the chance to touch basically all of them. NOTE: I'm not a developer of that code but I try to follow along with the generalities through the QA group. Given two folks seeing the same problem with the latest 6.1.2 build then whether the postgreSQL driver should be updated for that option or needs fixing I can't say, but the step right now is to open an issue and get it started whichever way. Best way, IMO, since you noticed it first here would be to go ahead and do that yourself. This URL assumes you have an account in the bug tracking system. https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=LibreOffice;component=Base If you don't have one and register then submit it you will get notifications as it is worked. Otherwise, if you really would rather not than one of us in the QA group can do it. Let us know. Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: libreoffice base/postgres - null columns with trigger/default values
BTW Currently the native MySQL ( MariaDB) sdbc has a setting ' FormsCheckrequiredFields' which can turn that function on or off. Checking just now the PostgreSQL sdbc code does not currently have that option. Yeah, that needs to go into the issue tracker for sure. I have no problem doing a copy/paste of a report, either into the same ODB or into a different ODB. So it is only reports. Details on creating triggers vary depending on the engine you are using. This works if the data you use to assemble your key is already in the database (fields in other tables for instance). OR Two: handle it with the client application (Base) which seems to be the advice you are getting so far. The decision as to which way to go depends on how you want to use it, doing it with a triggere means that any form, or table grid, attached to the table will pick up the function but you if you want to read values from form controls to construct your key the client side work work best. Re: [libreoffice-users] Predefinied constants (Macro, Basic)
Howdy, To the best of my knowledge those are it. You would need to recreate those once and then include them in later projects. It's a common thing for folks to do, make their own include library with such. In fact you might want to look at the Access2Base library in the libreoffice distribution, I believe the author may have defined a number of constants (the whole library recreated VBA functions for use in LibreOffice), it may be that what you are looking for is already there you would simply need to load it at runtime. Not to mention you might find some others things there, coming from a VBA background, useful. Re: [libreoffice-users] About pseudo objects with Basic code ...
Howdy Tom, Well, I was specifically asking Mauricio, after looking over the example basic code particularly, I am interested in his thoughts. As for this being the user mailing list, macros are user level question I would think, Basic is assumed usually, but Python is just as valid and about as easily done these only to drop in a couple of extensions. Maybe it is a power user question, but still a user question, yes? However, I suppose your'e right when moving on to talking about generating extension packages from macros libraries (basic or python). Howdy, Mauricio, Patrick I am curious as to why you think python is always the better choice? (ie. error handling, or whatever; or is it just always so in Patrick's use case and the example code you supplied there) Also, I you don't mind me asking. I'm new python scripting in LibreOffice. Do you have recommendations for setting up tools with LibreOffice to with Python scripts and perhaps then turning those into an extension. Right now I am using the following: LibreOffice 6.x, APSO (latest), MRI (latest), MS Video Code. Which of those would, if any, would you suggest I look at replacing. For Python there is an extension available which helps, don't think it would do much with Eclipse, but for generalized use it seems pretty good. https://extensions.libreoffice.org/extensions/apso-alternative-script-organizer-for-python On Tue, Sep 19, 2017 at 12:11 PM, Volker Lenhardt < volker.lenha...@uni-due.de> wrote: > Hi Thomas, > > Am 19.09.2017 um 13:38 schrieb Thomas Wielatt: > >> >> I do think it's quite uncomfortable to use the basic language to code any >> macros. Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: Can I reload a form based on a parameter query?
Howdy Peter, I'm only a user of the software. Anyone can request a change and it is pretty easy to do. Likely getting one of the developers to want to code it will be a bit more of a trick, but there is a process and if no one ever enters a request it certainly won't happen. Just in case: - the project uses a ticket system called Bugzilla to track defect reports and enhancement requests found at https://bugs.documentfoundation.org - you don't need to create an account in that system if all you want to do is view what is in the works, but you will need to create one to open a new request or report a bug. - there is an explanation of the bug entry process here: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/BugReport -- for an enhancement the only difference is enter a severity level of 'enhancement' Anyway, I haven't said boo here in a long while but recently have been looking at the issue tracker and I noticed that there is some talk of adding a 'search and replace' feature for Base which is what got me thinking it might be a good moment. On the other hand there is a big push to finish up the support for a different db engine so an RFE might get lost in the noise of that.. But hey it sounds like a good idea and if you want to start the process great, if not, I just might.. Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: Can I reload a form based on a parameter query?
howdy, Ah, considering that the project is actively working on the Base module at the moment this might be a great time to open a Request For Enhancement. In this case a request to add a ReloadWith (for example) function on the data set (form) which would reload the data using the current parameter variables entered on the initial load. Just a thought and it couldn't hurt. I think your use case is common enough that merits a discussion at least. Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: Keyboard Shortcuts for Buttons in Base
Howdy Noel, Sure, for a button in the label add a tilde ~ before the letter you want to use as the keyboard accelerator. In the case of a data control on a form you do similar, add a label control, in the text for the label add the ~ before the character you want to use and then for the actual data entry control, in the property editor for the control set the property 'Label Field' to the name of the label control. hmm, easier to do then to write, that last bit atually. //drew On Thu, Jan 17, 2013 at 10:16 AM, Tom tomdavie...@yahoo.co.uk wrote: Hi :) Sorry for the lack of responses from the Users List! For version 3.6: ToolsOptionsGeneral You will find a separate setting option for the macro recorder. However you have here 2 CSV files, and one of those files IIRC has a column with a different name. I don't thin you told folks here about how you are getting the data. Andreas may have a good way to do that completely in Calc (he is much better at Calc then I ever will be) However is this is something you will need to do on a continuing basis (with new CSV files arriving from time to time) then I would set this up under Base and attach the two CSV files as TEXT tables. With that done, then you can use the MINUS command. It's a little bit of work to set up the connection, but one done you can reuse it just by overwriting the source files with the data as need. //drew * On 07/28/2012 06:38 AM, Andreas Säger wrote: Am 28.07.2012 14:17, Lynne Stevens wrote: omega The Omega sector America's Last Line of Defense *How do I check for duplicates in a data base using another data base ? * SELECT A.* FROM A JOIN B ON A.ID = B.ID returns all rows from table A with an equivalent ID in table B. -- For unsubscribe instructions e-mail to: users+h...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/users/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted

Hi Tom Really - you seem to know a lot, are you writing a manual? @Girvin - there is no place that I've seen the report builder be that slow and not have an installation problem - not saying it is impossible but sounds really odd. 1500 records in a tabular report, 49 seconds is a long time for that actually. There is one exception to that, graphics - is your report including graphics stored in data fields? On the other hand Calc, as has been pointed out, might be your preferred path. Best, //drew Tom, Your brilliant link looks interesting. I knew Calc and Base have some similarities internally, but I wasn't aware that my data could be imported into Calc from my MySQL server. All of my reports are tabular in format anyway, so Calc could be an option, if it could get my data. One limit to using Calc would be Calc's row limit. I think I read that LO just raised the maximum rows, but if there are more database records than available Calc rows, then... Can Calc be linked to a Base query to get its data? If so, then all my sorting can be done in the query. I do not do any grouping in my reports at this time. As an update to my problem with Report Builder, my 1500+ record database takes 94 pages of a Report Builder / Writer document. I put on my patience hat and timed how long it takes to format the report, ready for printing. As a baseline, it takes about 49 minutes to create the original document. I cleared my preferences and re-entered them, using mostly defaults and timed it again: 49 minutes. So it is not preference corruption from previous versions. I then updated my java to 1.6u30 and timed it again: 49 minutes. So, it doesn't look like Java is the problem. I then went back to my original use of SQL from when I created the report with the wizard, rather than using a query for the data and timed it: 49 minutes! No matter what I do, it takes about the same excruciatingly long time to build my report. What is really frustrating is that there is no status popup to inform me of what it is doing. It just goes out to lunch. Actually, it seems to initially create 128 pages with header and footer, but no data, at the end of the first sleep. When the page status at the bottom of the writer window drops to 94 pages, I know it is done. Every so many pages, it does come back alive for a second or two and then goes out to lunch again for several minutes. Each time it returns, a few more pages are populated with data. Hello Drew, I understand what you are saying, but I installed the LO 3.5.2 binary (RPM) packages from the LO website. I repackaged them for Slackware, but that does not change the 1s and 0s, just unpacks the RPMs and re-packages the files into a Slackware package for installation. Therefore, if there is an installation problem, it seems to be in the LO packages. Note that I am using the Report Builder bundled into LO, not the version from the extensions website. I do believe the newest is 1.2.1 rev 2, and the one in LO is still 1.0-something. I have not tried to replace the bundled version with the 1.2 version. I could live with 49 _seconds_. However, it is taking 49 _minutes_ for my report. My database is nothing special, just text and integer values. Nine elements plus the key per record. No graphics. So, yes, this problem does sound unusual. However, I have not been able to pin down the problem yet. In the meantime, I am looking into using Calc to print my data. It looks good and will do until I can get RB working. BTW: The report is a simple text page header, Detail, and page footer, no graphics there either. I do have the date and time fields in the header, but that shouldn't bring it down. Actually, I do have some separator lines inserted at the bottom of the header and the bottom of each Detail line. Page number at the bottom of the footer. That's it. Thanks for the help. Hi Girvin Sounds like it aught to run lickity-split...hmm Anyway - looks like you are off to use Cacl. You might want to do this. When you open the data window under Calc, instead of copy/paste from the data grid - grad, drag and drop the actual query name from the left side of the data window. This will create a named range, you can set options on the range to _not_ save the data in the spreadsheet, jut the connection information...then when you open the spreadsheet again it will re-run the query and update the data anew.. Hello rainflakes, Sure, python is supported as a scripting language in LibreOffice. I put together an example file from some questions on the list regarding storing relative paths for images along with some a basic script, embedded in an odb file just the other day. https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/File:Linkme.odb So - I went back into that and added a button on the form there, lower right of the image control. And added two procedures to the basic library embedded in the odb file, one which is called for button execute (click or keyboard shortcut [if I had set one]) and this calls a doEdit procedure. Also added a new table called config, which has a field GraphicEditor, in which I store the value currently of gimp this works for me under linux and windows but perhaps others under windows would want to edit that to mspaint or whatever is appropriate. Anyway - I choose in that script to store URLs so the script, you will if you look, uses the convertFromURL to grab the file name passed. Just one more question: Would migrating to other databases (like MySQL or PostgreSQL) be similar to how I would migrate from an *.odb file to a HSQL database? If not, are there instructions for transitioning to MySQL or PostgreSQL? No, because you start with a working database structure before you connect your Base document to it. Even if you can edit tables, fields and relations of a foreign database, you can't create such a database newly from scratch and you should abstain from editing tables, fields, indices and relations of a foreign database. Always use dedicated software for the respective type of database engine. Having some Base connection to some source database (including spreadsheets, text etc) and another connection to a target database, you can always copy the raw data from source database to the _prepared_tables_ of the target database. Spreadsheet ranges can be copied directly. But you should abstain from the feature which allows you to create clipboard tables from scratch. This is another big trouble maker among all the useless Base features. The copypaste between databases is very useful but you should always append new rows to prepared tables. There are a lot more obsolete Base features which cause more trouble than convenience. Most of the Base component which had been added to OOo v2 could be removed without losing the capability to connect, query, report and use input forms. Hi Andreas, Sorry, I can't agree with your advice to avamk on this one. Sure you can edit tables on 'your' database, as long as he is the one doing the work the fact that it is a server based system is meaningless in this regard As for Base features, the problem is that there just aren't enough of them, or they are half done, not too many. //drew -- For unsubscribe instructions e-mail to: users+h...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/users/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted

In queries you can use the UCASE or UPPER function in order to display the upper case version of the text. Howdy, Right - well the VARCHAR_IGNORECASE is fairly specific to HSQLdb, but it works well. You may also create an update trigger, using an SQL command via the SQL window, to cast all input to upper case before it is written into the data field - for any relational database engine used by Base, including the embedded HSQLdb engine, the syntax varies a bit from engine to engine however.

Three things are left un-done and maybe they should be, as something to be added by the final user: 1 - when a new record is created, if the user clicks on an image control setting (scale mode / bckground color) the values are encoded and written to the record in memory, since the image link is not a required field the user could store this, which doesn't really make a lot of sense. 2 - When the saved image control settings are read back the image control is updated, but not the displayed value for the three scale mode checkbox controls or the background color list box. 3 - Setting the image control background to Transparent just doesn't work - don't now why, setting the value to EMPTY should equal 'Default' and that should be Transparent, IIRC... but maybe someone can figure that out. Also - changed the UI of the form a little. - The datacontrol (textbox) for the stored image link is again displayed, but as read only. You still use the File Selector to update the value. Guess that's it really then for the basic script stuff. So the hard part, for me at least, is left which is explaining how this works. I've got a fair bit of time today, so can work on that - any help with that is always welcome. Last but not least - Drag n Drop - you know we could add that to the form. It requires diving a bit deeper into the API, as one needs to create runtime listeners for events (not the same as filling in slots no the control property editor at design time), not today - but it is something that can be done with scripting also. //drew Thanks! -- View this message in context: http://nabble.documentfoundation.org/Make-a-form-that-allows-user-to-drag-and-drop-in-an-image-tp3890657p3901695.html Sent from the Users mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: Make a form that allows user to drag and drop in an image
Howdy Avamk, Tom alright well, got a little ugly in that I should create a constant or two, but the script works on both Windows and Linux now and will on Mac I'm sure (he says with a grin).. https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/File:Linkme.odb was updated just a minute or two ago - Haven't finished with the save for the display settings to the database field, should get that tonight. Anyway - I'm glad I versioned this, as it might be a good example for working with URL's vs OS specific paths also - which btw was my mistake, I started out deciding to save URLs, meaning I used the converttoURL function here and there, but then turned around an used the function getPathSeparator also, well, the getPathSeparator returns the system (or OS) character, which on Linux is the same as what is used in a URL, but not so on windows..once I stopped trying to have it both ways in the basic code :-) it all worked..surprise. anyway - let me know if any of this makes sense, and if you it mostly does, what is the best way to help reinforce it - I will try to write a decent explanation, but always need help with that, I'm no word smith. //drew On Tue, 2012-04-10 at 17:26 -0400, drew jensen wrote: On Mon, 2012-04-09 at 14:09 -0700, avamk wrote: Yes, I just looked at sheepdogs explanation, it is so well written! But if you are using Linux, all seems to work well - though I could likely clean it up still. So - why is it failing under Windows, and how to fix that today (over the next hour or so) is the call. BTW, I'm guessing it runs as written on a Mac also, but do not have one to try that on. anyway - I updated the odb file on the wiki (not the zip file, if you grabbed that great, just download the latest odb into your working direcotry) Added a couple things for kicks, as I say. Made it pretty. Added runtime controls to adjust some properties on the image control: - Display Scaling (none, stretched keep ratio, stretched fill) - Adjust background color (Black, White and Transparent [to come]) Added a couple of fields in the table, comments and one for storing a custom property (just a string) for the selected display settings. Hooking that up to single column vs data aware controls to two columns just cause, already handling our own record change event so why not. AGAIN - if you are running windows this file, the basic script, doesn't work.. will update this again later today with a correction on that hopefully. but to check it out under Linux (Mac maybe) the updated file is at https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/File:Linkme.odb back in a bit, //drew -- View this message in context: http://nabble.documentfoundation.org/Make-a-form-that-allows-user-to-drag-and-drop-in-an-image-tp3890657p3898027.html Sent from the Users mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

Howdy avamk, Alright updated the file and added it as new file, (different URL on the wiki) this is a zip file now. https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/File:Linkme.zip It will extract to a sub-dir named, linkme whith: linkme.odb lo-client-libo-wallpaper.jpg images/basicorganizer.png In the database the first two records should display a graphic from the remote server, as before. The next two will display using the relative path from the perspective of the odb file. You can use the file picker (which I wish would just start in the last dir..arrgh) to select files from anywhere on the disk, if they are in the directory of the odb or a sub-dir then a relative path, where the base file directory is root Off to a supper, I'll come back and try to write a decent explanation of the basic lines, tonight. //drew On Sat, 2012-04-07 at 21:11 -0700, avamk wrote: Thanks for the link! I actually have no macro coding skills to do that... And how do I tie the selected file's relative path to the field I desire? Sorry I am so new to this, but I would really appreciate any guidance you can give me... Well, I feel stupid - you already asked on ask.libreoffice didn't you.. http://ask.libreoffice.org/question/1715/make-a-form-that-allows-drag-and-drop-of-images-in ... the other day. OK- well, I haven't added the part to generate the relative path, but for the basics of syncing the control with a data column I did put together a little database. It's only a few lines of basic, but if you only have a starting knowledge of the basic scripting in the package it likely makes sense to let you have this first. To use the odb (embedded HSQL) database you will need to do two things interactively first. 1 - you must enable macro execution. I really suggest going for the highest setting, which requires you to designate what directories files with macros will be allowed to execute from - I more highly suggest you do not use your default download or document directory.. for myself I create a sub-directory under my Documents directory for such. Anyway - to do this open the Otpions dialog (FileOptions), select Security and then Macro Security. The information on the dialog should be reasonably clear to follow. 2 - you must load the 'Tools' basic library before it can used. When macros are embedded in and ODB, as they are in this example file this must be done outside of the file. (don't ask me why, I think its a bug) Now - there is a nice way to handle that. The example odb file has the document level event 'Open Oocument' set to call the Main procedure in the LibreOffice standard basic library. Every install of LibreOffice has this User specific standard library - by default, empty save a stubbed out Main procedure. So - what you need to do is: Start Libreoffice Select ToolsMacrosOrganize Dialogs On the dialog select the 'Modules' tab. You will see in the list of libraries the category: My Macros Under this - Standard If you double click this, a single module - Module 1 Select that and click the Edit button. Now you have the Basic IDE open. There is a Main Procedure, with no actual basic commands. Add this line between the opening Sub Main and End Sub Lines BasicLibraries.LoadLibrary(Tools) Save the library and close the IDE you are done with this. Now - if you have authorized Macro execution at some level you can load the example file 'linkme.odb', you will find a single table and form. The form uses a hidden text control and two macros and two events to transfer the URL selected from the file picker (File Selector) control into two data columns in the table. One of the macros also uses the link data column in the table to display the referenced image in an Image Control on the form. For kicks I've preloaded 3 records in the table - the first two will display a graphic from the internet and the third will display no image, as it has a file path (URL) to an image on my local disk. So - you can find the example file here for the moment - https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/File:Linkme.odb After I finish up the PATH massaging will move that over to the ask LibO site. Also - I need to do a few things here this Saturday morning, but I'll get back to it later this afernoon - if you check out the macros you will likely say HUH - but I'll also explain the constructs when I get back to this. //drew -- View this message in context: http://nabble.documentfoundation.org/Make-a-form-that-allows-user-to-drag-and-drop-in-an-image-tp3890657p3891586.html Sent from the Users mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

(Note: I'm not talking about a tutorial of how to become a database expert, but only of how to create a simple address book) You can not describe how to do that by means of features. You have to describe the process by means of data. I don't understand what you want to say here. As for the tutorial, I meant: implementing one possible concretion of an address book. Step by step. No further knowledge needed (though of course, helpful if available). There are plenty of references on how to use Base. Unfortunately most of them start with theory. Though, there is one tutorial- like Howto which I really appreciate. But it's about a calendar/scheduler, so not applicable here. There are thousands of resources on relational database design in general. As said before: I did not mean to learn how to become a database specialist. The tutorial should be aimed at simple (or say, a little bit advanced) users, who just want to build a simple database. This is not a problem. The problem is that too many people try to learn this by doing. I always encounter too many people trying to understand theory and capitulating because of the too high level of abstraction needed to understand theory. But this is something where you need to know some basics before you can do anything. What if we just try it? No. I referred to situations where Base is updating ms-jet or accdb (MS Access data engines) directly. Would that mean re-writing Access's Reports and Forms that are based on the tables? Regards from Correct - there is no way to re-use any of those. I mean, we know that Access works in an specific way and Base work in others, but I don't we have to mention it in the documentation. I think that saying is a replacement for others database front-ends is enough. No need of mentioning any other name. And no need of saying that is ugly and that other is pretty. We only have to describe our application, that's all. What do is important is to say is this is better because... and describe why is flexible, easy to use, etc. Well, the ability to work with MS Access is a highly important question and one that if you are being truthful is not really possible with Base. You can connect to an Access Database as a data source, but you are not able to make much if any use of major parts of the data (beyond the tables) held in the MS Access file. There are also a number of very difficult situations with MS Access that are commonly the downfall of attempting actual interoperability. Some of the things that the manual should point out, IMO, queries will be viewed in Base as either tables or views - this means that users are often befuddled as to why some Access table will not take updates - cause they aren't tables, kids. Queries in MS Access support features for which there are NO equivalents in Base, without resorting to scripting. Forms in MS Access support features for which there are NO equivalents in Base, and you likely would need C++ code to duplicate those, forget the scripting. The same can be said for reports. MS Access supports the ability to connect to multiple data sources, another 'feature' for which there is NO equivalent in Base or LibreOffice for that matter. (Two data sources on a stand alone form are not the same thing) [However, this actually does have a work around - you simply must use a DB backend that can do this instead] Anyway - I would, if I where actually doing this and so I it's my call, include some information about the issue with queries being picked up as 'views' as this bites a lot of people..beyond that, it's likely FAQ type stuff, IMO.
