What kind of file is it?
What is the file extension?

If this is a document that was saved using open office, then the file has
probably been damaged.

Is this a text file?

If you're hard drive has already been removed from the computer, you might be
able to use something like this

https://www.amazon.com/Thermaltake-External-Enclosure-Docking-ST0014U-D/dp/B01J4XNLN6

Don't just buy the thing I linked, but understand first, is your hard drive
that was removed from your old computer SATA that would work with that
particular device. The advantage of the device I linked to, is that if you have
a hard drive and you don't want to put it into an enclosure or install it in
your computer, you can just push it into place plug everything in and things
will generally just work.

I have an older version of that and I use it all the time. When people say hey.
Can you get something off this hard drive.

note that there are probably cheaper solutions, like simply plugging it into
your existing computer if you have any ability to do that.

Yes, I know that there are more permanent external drive enclosures that don't
leave the hard drive exposed. And if you want to use the drive off and, that
would be a better solution.

Re: Fwd: Printing on an envelope

2023-03-07 Thread Andrew Pitonyak

I rarely print envelopes, but on my printer, I usually just print landscape and
manually feed an envelope. I do use the mechanism to feed an envelope. The
problem with that, however, is that some feed the envelope in the middle and
some on the right or left side. So I expect this to take some experimentation.

What I did, was to feed a regular sheet of paper and then I checked to see
where it printed with respect to the envelope so that I could refine margins
(and similar). So now I can print individual envelopes when I want to. I just
pull up my "template" and off I go.

Not much help perhaps, but it is how I solved it for my infrequent use.

If you printer will print to an envelope directly, you should just need

Re: File is damage

2023-02-27 Thread Andrew Pitonyak

Copy the file (yes, make a copy) and name the file something like

x.zip

See if the file can be opened. ODT files are stored in a ZIP format so you
should be able to see the files. If the file cannot be opened as a ZIP then the
file is likely not recoverable. If you are able to open the ZIP file then you
at least know that something is correct with the file. Note that some data can
be recovered directly from the ZIP file but it is not a pleasant nor a fast
solution.

If the file is NOT sensative (but I suspect that it is) you can directly send
me an email with the file off list and I can take a peek at the file for you.
Note that the first thing that I will do, however, is to make a copy with a ZIP
file extension and see if I can unzip the file; something that you can likely
do yourself.

Also take a look at the file length.

Finally, and I should have asked this first, any chance you have a backup of
the file?

If your file is named something like "bob.odt", in that same directory is there
another file that starts with the name bob? That might be instructive.

Re: Median Function Used as "Between"

2022-08-23 Thread Andrew Pitonyak

The median is found by adding the "middle values" and dividing by two so the
answer is 124.5.
B12 contains 121 and 121 is not equal to 124.5. If cell B12 contained 124.5,
then the answer would be Yes rather than No.
You could write a macro to determine "between" or just write the comparisons.
If you have only two values it might look something like this:

=IF(AND(MIN(120,129) < B12,B12 < MAX(120,129)),"Yes","No")

When the following equation is entered

returns No.

I have also tested the equation with the values 120 and 129 replaced by
cell references and the same false value (No) is returned.

I have also replace the value of cell B12 with the value 118 and the
same false value (No) is returned.

All of my research on the web indicates that this equation works in
other spreadsheet products.

I am using Open Office 4.1.13 on a Windows 11 PC.

Am I doing something incorrectly?

Re: Winding OpenOffice down

2022-06-23 Thread Andrew Pitonyak

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apache_OpenOffice
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LibreOffice

LibreOffice (LO)
Apache OpenOffice (AOO)

This is from my memory and I am not checking my facts, so here it goes:

I was under the impression that AOO still has contributors The original
split was based on ideology, not sure if that is still the case. I will concede
that LO has had much more development than AOO. I am not sure if that is why
most Linux distros use LO rather than AOO or if that is also based on ideology;
never cared enough to look into it.

I won’t bother with the entire history of AOO / LO, but, some people did not
like the license used by AOO. At the time, it was not owned by Apache, I think
it was owned by Oracle after Oracle purchased Sun Micro-Systems. In other
words, the split was based in ideology (disagreement with the license).

So LO forked from OpenOffice.org with their own license. Obviously they had to
rewrite certain things to go with their license of choice. Soms is outlined at
the Wiki page mentioned above.

LibreOffice License
https://www.libreoffice.org/about-us/licenses
GPL / LGPL V3+  and Mozilla Public License v2.0

Apache OpenOffice License
https://www.openoffice.org/license.html
ASL

I am not sure it is a correct characterization and I am not going to spend time
reading through all the license stuff, but I heard it summarized as follows:

LO's license will allow the developer to own the coding they are sharing with
the project, where AOO's really will give that project the ownership of the
coding. Whether or not the "wording" is stating that, that is what most
developers I have "talked" with have told me.

Without looking it up, I would have characterized the difference noting that
ASL is more permissive than GPL. Specifically, if you modify or use GPL code
the new code is GPL. Because of this, most companies forbid the use of GPL code
to be used with code that they develop (or their code becomes GPL), which is
kind of the point of the GPL. The code that I release (as in not for my
employer) I release on a very permissive license, but that also means that
others can take my code and sell it after minor modifications.

LO immediately gained lots of traction with many contributors while Oracle
decided what to do with OOo and then they eventually handed it over to Apache.

Initially, the documentation group was working with both LO and AOO, but there
was a falling out between the person leading the group and some people with
AOO. I never fully understood the disagreement but noted that the primary
individual indicated that they would no longer work on AOO documentation so the
group producing LO documentation mostly abandoned AOO but are still strongly
working on LO documentation.

At the very least, a prominent notice that users should use

Re: Reveal Codes

2022-03-21 Thread Andrew Pitonyak

First, to identify a few problems with "reveal codes.

One problem with "reveal" codes with respect to OpenOffice is related to the
use of styles compared to hard coded attributes. I perform most formatting
using a style, but it is difficult to understand whether a single character is
bold because it was made that way using a style or by a hard coded attribute.

Programatically, it is easy to traverse simple text and to recognize where
things change. The hard part is understanding exactly why something changed. I
do not remember off hand if it tells me when individual attributes change if
the change is because of an applied style. Also from memory, I think that it
will tell me when a style starts / ends, which makes removing an applied style
tricky; something I have never tried programatically.

I have certainly written macros that would dump this information, but not in a
nice easy to see way.

https://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation/FAQ/Writer/FormattingText/Does_OpenOffice.org_have_a_Reveal_Codes_functionality_similar_to_WordPerfect%3F

https://bz.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=3395

https://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7=62137

https://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/User:TJFrazier/Reveal_Codes

In 2004 (approximately), a macro was created by Ian Laurenson to roughly
emulate some reveal codes functionality.

On my current computer I have LibreOffice (not OpenOffice) installed and I was
able to make it work with a few fixes. No idea if it works with the current
version of AOO (Apache OpenOffice). If you email me off list, and ask for a
copy of my latest Documents/OpenOffice/RevealCodes/Ianz/RevealCodes3.odt, I can
send you a copy. You will probably be very unhappy with how it works. Also, it
is not something that I use. I considered extending it, but there is always a
question of available time.

If you have a line (or double line, or dashed line, or etc) across a page,
check for borders in the paragraph style both above the line and below the

Re: FW: open office not recognizing JRE

2022-02-06 Thread Andrew Pitonyak
I asked Google which versions of Java are supported by open office and if the
results are to be believed, you probably should also install open JDK 8.

I assume you're running Windows given the tree using Windows email.

And yes you can have multiple versions of Java installed at the same time.
Without knowing more about what you do on your computer and your setup, I won't
begin to try to tell you how to configure your computer to handle multiple
versions of Java. But you probably want the latest version in your past and
then you can probably configure open office and tell it specifically where to
find the JDK but again, I have no way to easily test this. But hopefully that
gets you started if you get no other answers.

I do this regularly on other computers when software has different requirements
for which versions of Java, so it is common for me to have three or more
versions of Java installed at the same time.

2021-10-10 Thread Andrew Pitonyak
I'm not going to attempt to address the licensing issues that you bring up, but
let me mention something about versioning.

Version numbers are rather arbitrary, and if you want to know if something is
far behind or not, instead, look at the feature set of the two versions.

Don't just assume that because one product is version 7 and one product is
version 2, that one of them is more advanced than the other.  And don't take
any of those version numbers is being meaningful in any way that I just quoted.

I use Fedora Linux that I think has a version release cycle of every 9 months.
So I will soon be installing version 35 I think.

I'm sorry I don't have a comparison list between the two and since I don't
really have access to a computer besides my phone I can't even search for one.

If you do find one or make a decision interested in what you find best of luck.

Re: Can User Functions Be Created In OpenOffice Spreadsheet

2021-05-26 Thread Andrew Pitonyak
you can write user defined functions it's very easy. The easiest way is to pass
the value of a cell and then just return a string or whatever you want. I don't
remember what happens when you pass the cell value like that if you are parsing
out text and pulling out a URL property it's probably easier if you have the
address so you can actually pull the cell and then look at properties but I'm
hanging out in the car far from any of my documentation so that would be tricky
to find.

The easiest way to do that is to make sure that the user-defined macro that you
created is embedded in the document in question and then put it in the standard
library so that it's automatically loaded. They're better ways to get around
that but that's absolutely the easiest way to do it.

If you really can't figure it out let me know.

So, first question. How can kate start AOO so that it will NOT prompt to

Re: Open Office Excel

2020-08-25 Thread Andrew Pitonyak
What is the documents file extension? I'm

How large is the file?

If you cannot do it, I might be able to convert it to an ods (calc) file for
you. That said, excel may be able to write an ods file directly.

It is better, of course, if you do it yourself.

If AOO cannot do it, I might try LO (LibreOffice), sometimes, what fails in one
works in the other. Kind of a least resort for a casual user I think.

Re: Get URL from Hyperlink

2020-08-18 Thread Andrew Pitonyak

My best guess is that you pasted the macro into the subroutine that is created
when a module is created.

I created a Calc Document and then I placed the macro as a module in the
standard library of the Calc document. I tested the code and it seems to work
just fine.

I will mail you the Calc document directly.
Because the macro is in the Standard Library of the document, the macros are
always available for that document as functions. On the other hand, I think
that you cannot import the Standard library into another library container
(such as a document), so you would need to manually copy the macros into a new
document.

Enough testing for me for now, I have some other things I need to do, but,
watch for the document by itself. I do not believe that I can post the document
(attachement) to the list.

cheers!

If you want me to test load your document, send a copy to my home email address
(assuming there is nothing sensitive) and I can take a peek in case it is just
something with your configuration that went bad. I have never seen this so

The fact that the doc loads is a good sign.

A quick test (of interest), is to copy some of those black lines where you
expect words to be and paste them into a regular text editor (on windows,
notepad is a common choice). This should tell you if it is just a font problem
(or similar).

Best of luck.

Re: Microsoft payment demand

2020-03-08 Thread Andrew Pitonyak
Microsoft word is probably associated with OpenOffice documents so when he
double clicked on one the automatic association probably tried to load a
Microsoft product.

It is a simple matter to reassociate the file types. I'm not a strong Windows
user so I won't even try to provide instruction on how to do that, but a quick
Google search and show you how to reassociate the file types.

Also, you should be able to manually load your word processor and then use file
open to open the document

Re: more field fun.

2020-02-22 Thread Andrew Pitonyak

I do not have time to look deeply into this, but, I do believe that you can
have differnet behavior for left / right pages for a page style. I think they
talk about it here:

https://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation/FAQ/Writer/FormattingPagesAndDocuments/How_do_I_make_page_numbers_alternate%3F

I do notice, however, tha tyou say "page 3" is numbered as xi (11), so you
would need to make sure that the real page number is correct if you rely on
that to generate the number.

On Saturday, February 22, 2020 17:33 EST, Felmon Davis wrote:

imagine you have ten consecutive pages all without footer and
unnumbered except for pages 3, 5 and 7; on those pages you want a
footer and you want a roman numeral, for instance ix on page 3, xi on
page 5 and xiii on page 7.

inserting a number generates the same numeral on each page.

ah, I guess the trick is to do a different page style for 3, 5 and 7.

need a break; will pursue this strategy later unless there's a better
idea.

After some more experimenting I found this way, that differs from the other
method in the following ways:

- No need for using cell formatting
- The cell content is a string rather than a number

And the cell formula looks like this:
=TEXT(VALUE(BASE(42;2));""" """)

Of course you should replace ”42” with a cell reference or a formula in
most cases, like this:
=TEXT(VALUE(BASE(A1;2));""" """)

Sorry for stating the obvious… 

Kind regards

Re: Captions [was Re: spacing before/after group of paragraphs.]

2019-09-03 Thread Andrew Pitonyak

I define my own variables for counting things such as figures. When you insert
a caption, this creates a frame that contains both the figure and the caption.
Especially if you have floating figures, this seems like a good idea. First,
there are a few times when things go poorly if you let things float around; for
example, importing into other things or exporting as HTML (to name two). Worse,
many years ago, there was a bug that caused OOo to completely fail to load a
document with exactly this configuration if another set of things lined up
perfectly. I had a very large document that just would not load becaues of it.
I ended up editing the XML version of the document until I found the spot that
caused the problem. The bug was fixed, of course, but I have not used that
method since then. Well, not for most of my documents.

I always embed my images as a character and let them flow with the text. By
always, I really mean almost always. This allows me to do things such as have
three images on a single line with a single caption. Sure, I can do it the
other way, but, the I need to embed the other two images into the frame (and
similar).

I have my own paragraph style for things such as figures, tables, and code
listings. Last I checked this is exactly how the documentation project does it.
I did it because that is how the documentation for OOo was done.

Andrew, I'm curious about why you don't use the Insert > Caption

Re: spacing before/after group of paragraphs.

2019-09-03 Thread Andrew Pitonyak

I think your new description is very good... I missed the point the first time.

This is how I solve a similar problem using styles. My interest is source code,
but, very generically, assume you define three different styles names named
something like:

first_quote_par
next_quote_par
last_quote_par

Use properties similar to the following:
For first_quote_par and next_quote_par: set the "next style" to be
"next_quote_par".
For last_quote_par, set the next style to be whatever you normally use for your
text.
Set any specific line spacing for before and after as you desire for the
different paragraphs in the style. It sounds like you might want to add
something like "keep with next paragraph", or something, but, I usually only
use that for things such as captions where I really need to keep the caption
with a figure, table, or code listing.

For my uses, I don't need the "first_quote_par". Also, the last_quote_par has
suitable values in case I have a single line of code. If this is not true in
your case,  you might also need to define "single_quote_par" for when you have
only a single paragraph for your quote.

Note that I do something similar for page styles. I have a style named
"first_page_in_chapter" and "next_page_in_chapter".

cute remarks (including 'archaic need' below). gotta get the word out
to OpenOffice too since the dialogue, 'Indents & Spacing', refers
to 'line spacing' - perhaps it is a typewriter!

thank you for the substance of your remarks, but I'm not sure they
help. I think I haven't described my problem adequately.

I can make a 'style' which indents a paragraph say .03" left and right
and say .08" above and below.

I call this 'text-indent' and when the authors in the volume have
extended quotations, I can format them with a click on the style.

but in some cases the quotations themselves comprise two paragraphs. I
don't want the two paragraphs separated from each other by .08". I was
asking is there a way of making a style which separates two paragraphs
from the surrounding text but not from each other. I suspect not.

ok if not; I'll have to do it by hand.

I know I can do the work by hand. but I wanted to encapsulate it in a
style.

in the present text there are only a couple of instances where I want
do this kind of indentation but the table solution would be unwieldly
even then, and prohibitive in papers with more instances.

Far from home without a computer, but, my guess is that this is related to file
extensions, my guess is that when you double-click on a file it opens in open
office as opposed to Microsoft office because open office is the last thing
that you installed.

If you do not receive a response on how to do that in Windows, try Google. I
don't know how to do any of that because I don't use Windows really, I'm a

Hope it helps at least a little.

Now let me be more precise:

When you say "password protected area", does this mean that portions of the

Is the macro fully available to see / edit without using a password?

My assumption is that you are not really asking how to install Excel,
since that is a Microsoft product and this is a mailing list for
OpenOffice products... I assume, therefore, that you desire to install
Apache OpenOffice and that you desire to use Calc.

The only answer as of now assumes that you really want to install Excel
and says "sorry, we do not support that here".

So, despite the fact that I rarely use apple products, and most of my
interactions with iPads and iPhones have been very negative, perhaps I
should answer.

If you look here:

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/8198018

It states that the only way to install apps on your pad is to use the
App store and that neither OpenOffice nor LibreOffice are on the app
store.

If you really do want excel:

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/microsoft-excel/id586683407?mt=8

There is apparently another app called "Numbers" that is well rated,
but I did not look into it.

I can think of no way to print multiple directly with a different result every
time unless

1. You use mail merge

2. You generate a multi-page document using a field that increments

3. Use a macro that prints and increments multiple times.

Others probably have better ideas than I.

Re: Help numbering papers

I just wanted to clarify:

You start with a document that contains the text, which is always a
number, "9990001".

You open the document and print the document. The document prints the
text "9990001" as part of the document, but, after print, the text reads
"9990002". You save the document with the text 9990002.

OR

Were you hoping to print the document, request 10 copies, and have it
print with a different number each time?

OR

You have a single document containing the same text 50 times and each
copy contains a different number?

In my mind, I would write a macro to change the number then print the
document (if that workflow is possible), but I write many macros!

You're right that what is wanted is not an exact display of the
actual
internal coding but rather some visual indication of what's going

To me the value of RevealCodes in WordPerfect was not just in seeing
the structure but in therefore being able to position the cursor
before or after (or inside or outside of) a particular style. This
would be just as useful in OO and LO.

- Robert

If one turns on /Format /Styles and Formatting, it clearly indicates
the current formatting style at the cursor position.

/View /Non printing characters is helpful in showing spacing and
paragraph/line ends.

I tested the reveal codes macro years ago. last time I tried it, I had
to make changes to the underlying code to make it work. I don't remember
exactly what it showed, or, how it showed it. Also, it did not entirely
work as the system worked in WP, not that I entirely remember how that
worked, but, here are some issues with reveal codes in LO / AOO.

The first issue is related to styles. So, if you want to know why your
text is bold, it may be because there is a style making it so and it may
be because someone applied direct formatting. So, coming out of the
gate, there is always the question of what does one show with reveal
codes? Do you show the styles or just the formatting? For sure this is
useful functionality.

I don't even remember exactly what WP did. Could I start "BOLD" and
then not turn it off? This is not possible the way that AOO is written.

I think that the bottom line is that "sure, it would be great", it is
possible to do, the created extension provides (does it still work?)
some approximation, the developers have not yet considered it
sufficiently interesting to work on it (and I think it would require
significant time to integrate it).

I think that the best path forward would be to open a feature request
and then if sufficient people vote for it or express interest, it might
be done.

Re: reveal codes

2017-08-10 Thread Andrew Pitonyak

As far as I can tell, neither of these things helps what I'm
referring to. As an example: let's say you apply the Emphasis
character style to a sequence of characters, and then later want to
add some following characters that don't have that style. If you just
position your cursor after the last styled character, the text you
add

will also be styled. You need to position your cursor after the first
_unstyled_ character that follows, insert your new text, and then
back

up and delete that first unstyled (and now unwanted) character. With
RevealCodes turned on in WordPerfect, you would just position your
cursor after the end-of-style indicator and start entering unstyled
text.

well, the only difference is that you may NOT be able to position the
cursor outside of the formatting mark. something that reveals the codes
would clearly show that this is the case. So, what you would need to do
is to place the cursor as close as you can get, and then manually set /
change the style. The only functionality that you are missing is things
such as:

1. An ability to force the cursor past a formatting mark or style,
which may not be possible to do with AOO. No, really.
2. The ability to delete a formatting mark from within "reveal codes"
window. I think you could do that in WP anyway.

Both of these could be worked around in a native version of the
capability, but, for now, that is not available, and, I do not expect it
to be available anytime soon since I have not heard that anyone was
working on it. So, the question is, (1) how can you request that it be
added [open a request] and (2) how can you use what is currently
available to solve your existing "problem" to accomplish your goal. The
way that I usually work around this is by placing the cursor where I
want it and start typing. if it starts working in Bold, and I don't want
bold, then I highlight it and make it not bold (as one example). Would
it be faster to press the "show me codes" key, move the cursor, then
type? Maybe. I don't think that we have the problem with empty tags in
AOO that we had in WP, so I don't think that you need to use it to
remove empty tags.

So, you might want to find that reveal codes macro (I think that
someone had a link to it) and give that a try, see about opening a
feature request, and, if you are unsure how to work around a specific
behavior, describe it.

Your best chance of recovering the document, is to:
* Wwrite down what you think the password is;
* Construct variants of that, using the normal password variation
patterns;
* Try each of those variant patterns, until you find the correct

It is very very unlikely that it would work because the internal object
models for manipulating a document are different. If all your macro does
is say print a number using the print statement or message box,
probably; but I hvae not tested it.

Re: Macro Troubles

2017-06-23 Thread Andrew Pitonyak

Trying to remember which will get me flamed less, top posting or bottom
posting .

Lets start with (2) because it is the easiest to answer.

So, the answer is, I have no idea, it depends on what object Target is.

Is this a Cell? A Range?

If this is a SheetRange, then you should be able to use
"Target.RangeAddress.StartColumn". If this is already a Range address,
then you should be able to use "Target.StartColumn".

I know this is not a cell address, or Column would already work. Does
it work if you use "Target.getCellAddress().Column"?

Sadly, you probably need to fix (1) before looking at (2).

Question (1) is more difficult because you want to perform a search.

I assume from the name that rng is a sheet range, Sadly, searching in
AOO is much more difficult than in Excel (using macros).

If you comment out the offending lines, does it complain if you use
something like:

rng.CreateSearchDescriptor()

If that does not cause a failure, then you have a sheet cell range and
you can create a search descriptor. I hvae no idea about the use of
Lookat or LookIn.

Here are some of the properties that are probably supported by your
search descriptor.

STRING ImplementationName = ScCellSearchObj
STRING ReplaceString =
BOOL SearchBackwards = False
BOOL SearchByRow = False
BOOL SearchCaseSensitive = False
BOOL SearchRegularExpression = False
BOOL SearchSimilarity = False
INTEGER SearchSimilarityAdd = 2
INTEGER SearchSimilarityExchange = 2
BOOL SearchSimilarityRelax = False
INTEGER SearchSimilarityRemove = 2
STRING SearchString =
BOOL SearchStyles = False
INTEGER SearchType = 0
BOOL SearchWildcard = False
BOOL SearchWords = False

I am guessing that this does a row based search, so you might begin
with something like:

Dim oSearchDescriptor
oSearchDescriptor = rng.CreateSearchDescriptor()
oSearchDescriptor.SearchByRow = true

Your macro searches in the direction last used (or so it seems), if
not, it seems that you can probably set SearchBackwards to true or false
depending on the direction that you want.

Beyond that I am only guessing. Is this looking for the text "*"? I
have no idea what your second parameter does there.

If you can fill out the search descriptor, you will probably need to
use something like this totally untested

  Dim oFound
  oFound = rng.findFirst(oDescriptor)
  Do While Not IsNull(oFound)
' Do something with the oFound object
' Off hand, it looks like you really only need to find the first
thing
' and then use it for something. Maybe you really just need to find
the last one, I can only guess.

' I am really guessing on this next line.
oFound = rng.findNext(oFound, oDescriptor)
  Loop

   1. LastSn = rng.Find("*", rng.Cells(1), Lookat:=xlPart,

SearchDirection:=xlPrevious, MatchCase:=False) .Row

   2. TargetCol = Target.Column

Re: word

2017-03-01 Thread Andrew Pitonyak

I have written numerous articles for publication using OpenOffice with
no problem. I think that you must first determine what format is
required/supported by the publisher (DOC, DOCX, ODT, etc). If they
directly support ODT, you are finished. if not, then you simply save
your file in a supported format and submit that.

There may be a few formatting issues when saving in a different format,
but, these usually require complicated constructs not used when
submitting for publication; for example, worrying about precise
placement of a figure relative to a paragraph. These sorts of things are
usually changed by an editor using fancy programs to get the layout as
they want it, so it has, in my experience, not mattered.

Even if it did matter, support is sufficiently good, that it still does
not matter (in general).

Insert -> Fields-> Other... on document tab under type click filename

document for the field to be populated.

Sorry, but this works - of course - in a text (Writer) document. The

Thanks Brian, smack head.

Now that I have computer access, I see that you are correct.

In Calc, you can use this, which includes the current sheet.

CELL("filename")

If you just want the URL without the sheet name, this will suffice:

=MID(CELL("filename");2;FIND("'#";CELL("filename"))-2)

I won't bother pulling out the filename without the path and URL.

Re: mp4 video not supported in Impress

2016-09-09 Thread Andrew Pitonyak

First question, since I know little to nothing about this that is not
many years out of date:

Q1: Are you able to insert other video formats? The obvious OGG Vorbis
format comes to mind.

If you can embed other formats, then

MP4 is just a container, do you know what codec is used to encode the
contained video? It is similar to saying that you cannot play the video
contained in a ZIP file. OK, so the comparison is not really good,
but

If the codec used is not supported, then for certain you cannot do it.

I spend little to no time doing this sort of thing, but, I believe that
you can use a program called "mediainfo", but I would first check to see
if your OS supports just giving you that information with an already
installed tool:

https://sourceforge.net/projects/mediainfo/
https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo

Again, I have NOT tried these two programs, but I found it listed in
the following article that lists five tools to find out about the codecs
used

https://www.raymond.cc/blog/determine-audio-video-codec-required-to-play-downloaded-movies/

Now, that said, give this a read:

device that you want top change the don't color of all identifiers for

garbage documents (quick letters, half page simple formatting, etc) it helps
little. If you ate already well versed in their use or is generally easier to
use them than not, but you can usually must ignore them and it does not matter.

I have a friend who uses word perfect. In all her documents she set spacing in
her paragraphs by adding spaces. She saw no use for that whole setting the
margins and indents.. Until she had to change them and / or insert text.
