are you using cdb? there is a program coming vpopmail to convert from cdb to anything almost. [vchkpw] routing of outgoing messages
Hi again I hope someone can shed some light on this topic. I have an ISDN dailup connection, with a FBDS + qmail + vpopmail + mysql box on my LAN. When I send emails to local users, all is fine. But, when I send email to www.webmail.co.za, I get the following message: Knocky qmail: 1059263981.990167 delivery 7: deferral: Connected_to_196.35.40.11_but_greeting_failed./Remote_ho st_said:_553_Your_IP_address_196.22.188.100_is_blackholed_by_dnsbl.njabl.org ._/ My internal LAN is on the 192.168.0.0 IP range, and I send email to my server (192.168.0.250), which then directly sends it out on the net. Is there a way to deliver local mail locally, and all other mail to my upstream ISP? As per the FAQ, I have to add my upstream mail server address, and then disable local delivery (hash it out in /etc/inetd), but then it doesn't run at all. Any ideas? [vchkpw] Merging maildrop and mailbot into vdelivermail
- Original Message - From: spork [EMAIL PROTECTED] When the next devel cycle happens, I think it would be worthwhile to look at turning vpopmail into a fully db-backed delivery agent. Some goals that that would help accomplish are: -easy development of a web frontend in any language that can talk SQL -easy integration with other web products, such as squirrelmail -ability to use vpopmail with other MTAs -easy integration with many billing backends -more efficiency; instead of having to read upwards of five files for every delivery and executing as many programs, one db call and one call to a filteing program. It seems to me that vdelivermail is very close to being able to do this. Hmmm interesting... vdelivermail could stop trying to use .qmail files altogether and simply rely totaly on SQL. One way to do this would be to merge maildrop's filtering laguage and mailbot's autoresponder functionalty into vdelivermail. Perhaps something like a sub-module. The point here is that vdelivermail would read ALL the settings from SQL and take care of everything right down to dropping the mail in the Maildir. Well that would take care of our SETUID problems. My 2 cents, Gérald
Re: [vchkpw] tcpserver: fatal: unable to bind: address already used
Have you checked your /etc/inetd for anything starting with SMTP? Hash it out, and restart inetd. That will probably solve the tcpserver: fatal: unable to bind: address already used, if you have an SMTP server running from there. Else, kill sendmail / postfix / exim if it apprears in ps ax Regarding your second question, depending on the platform used, you can cp /var/qmail/bin/maildir /var/qmail/rc /var/qmail/rc start Goto /var/qmaill/docs/ and checkout the README.* files, to see which file from /var/qmail/bin you want to use. - Original Message - From: Javier [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, July 29, 2003 11:42 AM Subject: [vchkpw] tcpserver: fatal: unable to bind: address already used Hi I've installed qmail following Lfe with qmail and vpopmail with the scripts that allow roaming users to use our smtp server without opening the machine up to everyone on the internet. You must allow STABLISHED and RELATED connections pass to your clients. Also, you can read the man iptables man pages. Best luck srosa

We had to disable the autoresponder and then reenable it again in order to get the mail to go through. Anyone have anything to add to this. Is there a setting that I should be increasing? I?m not really sure if it is about the vchkpw -program, but that?s my guess The problem is, that if I start the imapserver, and/or the sqwebmailserver, the first minutes I can log in without any problems, or let?s say, the first time. But, when I try to login in again, with the same account or with another, authentication fails.. Whery strange. I uses plain-password style for authdaemond.plain for imap. For the local users /etc/passwd the problem inly apears sometimes. I think this problem is with authdaemond? Solution: Do not use authdaemond. You think wrong. The problem is with vpopmail. See the archives, maybe it will get fixed someday. --Doug Well, thanks, but how do I get the archives? I´m a new user on the list.
Re: [vchkpw] Autorespond problem AUTORESPOND:_too_many_received_from_
Yes, recompile autorespond, and modify the source, as per the Notes section of the README file. For some reason, the default behavior is to have the mail stop being delivered once the maximum count is reached, which strikes me as quite simply bizarre. I can't think of a good reason to do that, but hey, the software's free so who can argue. [vchkpw] Conversion to mysql..?
I'm converting an existing vpopmail / qmail installation to one using mysql. Is there anything in particular I need to look out for, anything in particular I need to do, and are there any tools to allow doing that? Harry

Hi, And btw, I don't do responses to TDMA or tdma type systems :) So you'll have to get your answer from the list. Regards, Rick Rick Macdougall wrote: Hi, vconvert in the bin directory of vpopmail. Re: [vchkpw] Conversion to mysql..?
I have had catastrophic consequenses in the past by runnning vconvert without any options.. shouldnt even run ./vconvert --help (was 3 and 2 years ago, and it lost alot of user login/passwords) the command works, just be sure you use the right command from the start and when you are done, then rename vconvert it to vconvert.DONT_RUN, and chmod to 000 (stupid as i was i had forgotten about the first incident, and just ran the file again, losing alot of accounts again. (i think it defaults to converting cdb to mysql, thereby replacing the already existing domain in the database (well its 2+ years ago, and my memory about it isnt totally clear, just be carefull) Kris At 16:02 29-07-2003 -0700, you wrote: I'm converting an existing vpopmail / qmail installation to one using mysql. Re: [vchkpw] OT TDMA Conversion to mysql..?
Hi, No time for one off mailings. If you were a family member or something I might, otherwise I can't really be bothered. As the webmaster, postmaster, dns, abuse, etc etc address I get too many emails already and asking me to respond to a one off mailing in response to a question someone asked just wastes my time. I don't mean any offense and if it works for you, great, but I'm not going to jump through hoops to answer someone's question(s). My personal experience is most admin's are like this, we just shrug it off and hit delete. They want us to jump through hoops to answer, we just don't reply. Just my $0.02, for what it's worth. Oh, and I top post and I reply all :) Come on Tony, Flame me :) Regards, Rick Harry Zink wrote: No problems, and thanks for your response. Well, it does work for me rather well, except for (ironically) family members who appear too dumb to read a message... But I'm sure we all have those types. My personal experience is most admin's are like this, we just shrug it off and hit delete. They want us to jump through hoops to answer, we just don't reply. Well, being in the same boat, I simply set up a rule/filter which responds to TMDA challenges with an automatic response, and files the challenge/response/confirmation away. No interaction needed on my part, and the lines of communication remain open. Very simple, really. Just my $0.02, for what it's worth. No, thanks, I get the occasional negative response to TMDA (the vast majority of respondents like it), so I'm always curious why, in fact, certain folks dislike it. Just as an aside - your response, by the way, confirmed that you have seen and acknowledged the challenge, and responding to the challenge probably took less than this thread :-) Either way, I'm happy that you responded publicly, as this is information that might help others as well. Oh, and I top post and I reply all :) Come on Tony, Flame me :) LOL! 'Reply All' is my favorite activity to family members that spam me with junk/hoaxes -- just to berate them. One public humiliation is normally all it takes to make those stop. Ah, if only it were that easy :-) Thanks for your response, Harry
[vchkpw] Re: vpopmail+qmail+ldap
Hi,Jens, i installed the ucspi-tcp, so i start qmail-pop3 through tcpserver : --snip (in a single line) exec /usr/local/bin/tcpserver -v -R -H -l 0 0 110 /var/qmail/bin/qmail-popup mailserver.koal.com /home/vpopmail/bin/vchkpw /var/qmail/bin/qmail-pop3d Maildir 21 --snap it was strange that why i couldn't find any information from syslog ( /var/log/message.*) , i start openldap with slapd -s debug, any suggestions? thanks. - Original Message - From: Jens Jahr [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: lixiang [EMAIL PROTECTED] Cc: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, July 29, 2003 5:57 PM Subject: Re: [vchkpw] Re: error:domain already exsits Zitat von lixiang [EMAIL PROTECTED]: i don't want to change qmail-pop3d to courier-pop3d because i want to ensure the combination of qmail+vpopmail feasible. BTW, even i start the slapd with the -s debug parameters, i cann't find any information in the syslog ( /var/log/message.*) .. Hi lixiang, so it is probably not an LDAP-issue but an qmail-pop3d issue. So check if the qmail-pop3d-user is able to execute LINK_TO/vchkpw. Check if the start-up of qmail-pop3d is set up properly. ( from inetd ) It should be : ( in a single line ) --- snip pop3 stream tcp nowait root /var/qmail/bin/qmail-popup qmail-popup YOUR_FQDN_OF_POP_HOST /home/vpopmail/bin/vchkpw /var/qmail/bin/qmail-pop3d Maildir --- snap Cheers Jens

This server is going to hold a great number of users and a lot of traffic. My question is: should I use mySQL, ldap or none? MySQL. Without a doubt. Thanks Jesse, I was guessing that... Well it's never late to learn new stuff. Regards srosa Hi Jesse, First of all, you're talking to the wrong person. I recommended MySQL, but I didn't ask the original question. bevor you decide to choose mySQL make your mind clear about the follwoing things: - are you able to replicate your database with mySQL ? Yes. - are these tables tranactional based in mySQL ? vpopmail doesn't use transactions and rollback. What's your point? But yes, MySQL supports transactional tables in version 4.0. They're called innodb. - are you able to do __consistent__ online backups with mySQL ? ( dont bother me with any mysql-dump scripts ... or something like that ... ) Ever heard of a tape drive? Yes. Yes you can. In a variety of ways. - did you ever do a disaster recovery with mySQL ? Yup. No problem. - are you able to extend/migrate you database with mySQL ? I'm confused. I thought this was for a vpopmail/qmail mail server. What would he be extending to? What would he be migrating to? And yes, you CAN migrate if needed. It's SQL. so if you really plan to setup a huge server which has to fit these point... well, things twice ;-)) Sounds like you've had problems with MySQL in the past, but I think your concerns are unfounded. I've personally been running MySQL for over a year now with no trouble, and my employer has been running it for many years before that. What's more, MySQL keeps getting better. In short, I know that MySQL is a good choice for vpopmail/qmail mail servers from experience. There are more database backend's , e.g. oracle with totally fulfill these points. And cost more money for the same functionality too. if you are not familiar with these point , than you should choose mySQL. I just don't understand your reasoning here.
