I Interpret this to mean that, assuming you are using iMessage on your iOS

iOS phone number, on the Mac, in the Messages app, as well as on your phone.

 Am I wrong?

I just received a text message from a fellow iOS iMessage user on my phone

Do I need to enable something new in order to get this to work?

 All feedback welcomed.

Accessible wrestling/racing games or radio stations/apps

2012-10-09 Thread Shane Clark
Hi All,
Just curious to know if there are any accessible wrestling games or racing
games out there, preferably racing in terms of NASCAR? And does anyone know if
there is any accessible wrestling Internet radio Stations and any NASCAR radio
stations? I mean I don't want any NASCAR stations that are just affiliates, in
other words just playing music and then have the race on when it comes on. I'm
looking more for something like a Motor Racing network, that broadcast NASCAR
information 24-7.
Thanks.

Re: Should resetting the iPhone in IOS 6 cause loss of VoiceOver

David,

I have to admit that I have not used this reboot procedure more than maybe a
couple of times, yet I have not encountered this issue. So, is there any
particular pattern to reproducing the problem? FOr example, rebooting
repeatedly (within a period of time) such as maybe every five minutes for 10
times etc.? Perhaps rebooting the phone more than once a week? Also, is there
any particular app that has caused the condition which necessitated a reboot? I

Hello to all, has anyone had any issues with voice over and MOG using it to
listen to songs on the phone. In other words when you're browsing and album

sometimes that will not work because when the context menu comes up it is too
close to the volume buttons as well and I just want to know if anyone was
having that problem so that I can find the contact about this issue since I

Re: Should resetting the iPhone in IOS 6 cause loss of VoiceOver

2012-10-09 Thread David Chittenden
Scott,

I have not yet been able to figure out any patterns yet. I managed to make it
lose VO again by having my braille display connected when I did the power home
reboot. The most annoying thing is that the rotors are both set back to factory
defaults each time VO is switched off. Also, triple-click home is deactivated,
so iTunes is necessary for restarting VO on the iPhone.

Re: [Maccessibility] Hide Newsstand In A Folder On iOS 6 With One Click, No Jailbreak Required

2012-10-09 Thread Cheryl Homiak
There was a link to a link to another link which I had to use mouse keys on and
as far as I could see the app didn't change my newsstand folder. Maybe whoever
posted it and the announcement here can give further explanation. I maybe
should have been more suspicious but I thought the Maccessibility guys would
know what they had put up and announced.

Subject: Messagenet Talk

hey it is a very good social networking app.
and it is very accessible.

here is a discribtion from the app store:

Messagenet Talk is a free iPhone, iPad and PC app that lets you talk and
text for FREE with other Messagenet Talk users worldwide in WiFi 3G*.
Additionally, you can call any phone number worldwide and send SMSs at VERY
low rates (lower than Skype**) and say goodbye to roaming charges: add to
your mobile a local or international phone line*** that follows you anywhere
in the world.

NO ADS, no hidden costs, high-definition audio for exceptional voice
quality; no need to add contacts, strict privacy policy, immediate
activation. FREE voicemail option. Possibility to send and receive faxes
directly from your mobile/iPad.

WHY USE MESSAGENET TALK VS. OTHER VoIP (VOICE OVER INTERNET PROTOCOL) APPS?

. WORKS WHERE OTHER VoIP APPS GET BLOCKED: Messagenet Talk is able to bypass
the blocking techniques used by many mobile network operators due to
Messagenet's proprietary obfuscation technologies which sidestep blockages.

. OPEN STANDARDS BASED (SIP STANDARD); unlike Viber, Skype and other similar
apps, our voice service allows for a wide range of integration and usages in
home, work, and multiple line phone systems (PBX). Our voice service can be
accessed from any SIP compliant telephone or telephone adapter, software
client for PC or mobile device, or PBX.

. CALL ANY NUMBER IN THE WORLD and send SMSs with significant savings: our
VoIP rates are lower than Skype** and represent, on average, a 70% saving
vs. major mobile carriers on international calls.

. ADD A LOCAL OR INTERNATIONAL PHONE LINE TO YOUR MOBILE and say goodbye to
roaming costs or simply benefit from additional flexibility.

. TALK EASILY FOR FREE ALSO WITH ANY PC/MAC USER WORLDWIDE - even non
Messagenet Talk users - by sending them a free call back link . The
recipient simply clicks on the link, and the free call will start
automatically - with no registration or software installation required on
their part. Instant and seamless as an email.

. INSTANT AND EASY TO USE: no need to create buddy lists, no user name
password required. Your iPhone/iPad's contact list immediately shows you who
you can call on their iPhone or PC for free. Contacts list transmission is
encrypted.

. STRONG PRIVACY POLICY: Data transmission is encrypted and will be used by
Messagenet only for the purpose of allowing you to communicate easily with
your contacts. The data will not be used for other purposes nor be given to
any third party. Our privacy policy is available within the application.

. TURNS IPAD AND IPOD TOUCH INTO A PHONE: with this app you can use your
iPad or iPod Touch to call and text/SMS other Messagenet Talk users for
free, as well as to talk for free with any PC user worldwide.

WHAT OUR USERS SAY ON THE APP STORE:

What a great app! Excellent voice quality. Best point is I am outside the
UK and I got a UK number for free. Now I can receive calls from UK, and the
caller don't have to pay for international calls (USA)

For free calls to other Messagenet users, it works better than similar,
well known apps and when some of the other services don't work at all, I'm
still able to make calls with MessagenetTalk. (Italy)

Good voice and reception quality- good work! Home number and mobile number
in one device. Finally also with iPhone! (Australia)

Great- This app is amazing. My husband is on the other side of the world
and he can call me anytime and the sound quality is sooo much better than
Skype (USA)

A great software for free calls (China)

Very Good- This apps much better than other phone call apps like as Skype,
Viber, Nimbuzz etc. This apps no.1 app in the apple store. I give 10/10
star. (UK)

Simply great. It works perfect both with WiFi and 3G (USA)

*Operator data charges may apply
** For more than 300 destinations including US, EU, China; pay as you go
voice plan. Comparison details on www.messagenettalk.com/k
*** Local lines available in 18 countries including the US, and many top EU
countries.

Re: [Maccessibility] Hide Newsstand In A Folder On iOS 6 With One Click, No Jailbreak Required

2012-10-09 Thread Cheryl Homiak
Yeah, that's what I've done but I'd far rather just get rid of it until there's
something accessible that goes in there that I want. I don't appreciate it
taking up a place on my screen when I don't even want it! If it could at least
be moved into some other folder or other things could live in the folder and it
could be renamed, I'd like it much better.

I have lost VO only once by using this reset, and that was because I got
distracted and ended up holding it for about twenty seconds. I think there
is a timing limit. However, with both the Ipad 3 and the iPhone 5, VO can be
brought back with the tripple-click of the home key. I got an iPad 3 and out
of the box the tripple-click worked. I then tried it with the iPhone 5 and
this was also the case. No longer is sighted help or a computer connection
necessary. This seems to now be built in by default. I like it!

find out if VoiceOver works with Citrix. We are having some problems
getting VO to work wiht our program we use to write and edit our
newspaper stories. It is called CCI, and we are supposed to access it
from our smart phones or tablets.
VoiceOver will only read the menu bar. Any help is greatly
appreciated.

Hi Eric, I have List Recorder Lite, where do you do the app purchase?

  Hi Elizabeth,

There are two more paid recorders that are popular among many on this list,
Voxie Recorder and List Recorder.

List Recorder is my favorite as it is not only a excellent recorder but also
is a note taker as well.

Also, List Recorder is designed for the Voice Over user so it is completely
accessible. I think the strongest plus for List Recorder is that it is
designed to make it easy to organize recordings. You can move them around to
different lists and re name the lists in any way that works for you. You can
organize things in all different ways.

Finally, The ability to add to either the beginning or the end of a existing
recording is a great help.

As far as sending the recordings to your computer you can use, email,
dropbox, or itunes File share. Everything is described in the detailed help
sections in the app or you can use podcasts from sixthmode.com or applevis.com.

YOu can also export all or some of your List Recorder info to your computer
for safe keeping. I'm a believer in backups so I appreciate this being built
in.

To purchase List Recorder you first purchase the light app
for .99. You then do a in app purchase to get the full version. the second
purchase is $7.99. Once you have List Recorder your device will be a fully
functional accessible recorder and note taker.

I use this app more then any other on my phone. I'm sure it will work well on
the iPad.

  Hope this info is helpful.

David,

The one thing you stated that caught my attention is regarding the Braille

factory defaults each time VO is switched off. Also, triple-click home is
deactivated, so iTunes is necessary for restarting VO on the iPhone.

there any particular app that has caused the condition which necessitated a

going to top of list in tweetlist

2012-10-09 Thread don bishop

Hi,

When I start tweetlist or come back to it later, I'm usually positioned
way down the list of tweets near the last one I've read.

If I want to immediately go to the latest one, is there a gesture or
comand I can use to do this as opposed to scrolling through every page
of tweets?

Thanks,

Don

Try the usual top of screen command - touch the status bar and then double-tap.
I'm pretty sure that will work.

RE: question about Skype video

Hello Herbie,

Once your Skype video call has started, double tap on the Video button,
it's the one on the very left of the bottom 5 buttons. Once you do that a
few options pop up above, you can flick left or slide your finger straight
up from the home key. Here you have Backfacing, Front Facing and No
Video. Double tap what you want and it will change. By default Skype always
uses the front facing camera.

UPC labels. It does do this, but the purpose of Digit-Eyes is to help
with labeling -- both creating your own (text or recordable QR code labels)
and for reading those created by others (QR code and three barcodes: UPC,
 Code 3 of 9 and code 128).

Some people use it for both labeling and reading; some for just reading
UPCs. You can even buy the two functions separately if you want to.

Our vision in creating Digit-Eyes was to create a tool that fit the
 following criteria:

 a) *small* (does anyone really like to use a device that is awkward or
 obtrusive -- particularly in public?)
 b) *portable* (AT isn't much use unless it is where you are, not in
another room or left at home)
 c) *robust and very reliable* (AT equipment that isn't working or that
 is undependable is very frustrating)
 d) *working* (electronic devices that are out of battery are worthless)
 e) *replaceable* (if you lose your iPhone, when you synch up your new
one, you'll find all your saved labels are restored from your backup)
 f) *easy to learn and use* (Digit-Eyes does require some practice --
like many things -- but it is generally very simple to use, just a matter
 of repetition)
 g) *both inexpensive and powerful in terms of data* (what good is it to
have product identification system that can't identify your item? we have
about 28 million UPC/EAN codes and the updates are both continuous and
free. Most of the other solutions have about a 50% product identification
rate; Digit-Eyes runs 95%+ in most countries and languages)
 h) *very inexpensive in terms of supply* (our target is 1 cent per label
 or less)
 i) * very inexpensive in terms of acquisition* (Our target was to have a
product that anyone could easily afford and not have to save up or get a
grant to buy. Begging for money isn't fun and our family has a LOT of
things to do where $500 or $1000 would come in handy!)

I think that in most cases, we did hit the design objectives. The
tradeoffs are that you do need to learn to use the iPhone camera and if you
are using it to read UPC codes, you need to learn about code placement and
(like every other solution), it isn't for everyone.

Some people read Braille, some don't.
Some people like having a dog, some don't.
Some people are very comfortable using JAWS, some are not.

Here are a couple of things we've learned:
 a) a lot of people use the print-it-yourself labels and love them.
 b) a lot of people use the washable pre-printed labels, ditto. Oddly,
we have as many positive comments from sighted spouses as from our intended
 user base.
 c) finding UPCs has become simpler because manufacturers are moving the
labels from the sides to the bottoms of boxes
 d) the improvements in the Apple cameras are making it possible for us to
analyze much larger image portions all at once, which means that finding
 codes and labels is easier
 e) about 1 in 50 customers needs help learning to use the camera and
Skype is a great way to do this. Every time I (or one of our staff) works
with someone over Skype, we learn stuff about how that app is used.

I think if you get Digit-Eyes and learn to use it, that you'll like it
(most people do); if it turns out that it is not for you, you can return it
 to Apple.

 Cordially,
 Nancy

If you have an existing barcode scanner that attaches to your PC (like the
Metrologic one), you can also now use the desktop version if you are so
 inclined:

Please note that you do not need to cut out labels for Digit-Eyes. It is
set up to print on standard, pre-cut Avery labels of many different sizes.
You just tell it what the configuration of your labels is (A4 or US paper),
number of labels across and number of labels down. It will generate the
codes and you can print them.

When you want to use one, just peel it off the backing and stick it on
whatever you are labeling.

We didn't feel it was reasonable to expect people to play Origami when they
really just want labels with no fuss!

  Hi Paul.
It's a bit like that, but it actually hunts for the barcode on the item,
 I'm
not sure exactly how oMoby works. The barcodes for a lot of the k-cups
 are
located on the tops of the boxes. Here's some info I wrote up awhile
 back
about digit-eyes for another list I'm on. Perhaps it will help?
  Begin quoted message:
  Hi all.
Just been playing around with Digit-Eyes today a bit, and here are my
  impressions so far.
When you first launch the app, you are put on the Scan button. Before
scanning anything though, I would highly recommend going to the help
 section
of the app and reading their tips on scanning, as it can save a lot of
 time
and grief. While locating barcodes and UPC codes on products can be
difficult, once you find them, the rest works quite nice. Again, for
assistance with this, see the help section in the app or on the
 Digit-Eyes
website. Essentially, you will position the camera over the device and
 try
to take your best guess as to where the barcode is located. After
 selecting
the scan button, begin moving the camera from about 8 inches and with
 each
snap of the camera, raise it another inch. Also, sometimes rotating the
product can help. Note that it doesn't matter what orientation the
 barcode
is in, the app simply needs to recognize that it has found a barcode to
 work
properly. When the app has located the barcode, the phone will vibrate,
indicating that you don't need to move the camera around anymore.
Digit-eyes recognized all 5 of the items I put in front of it. Once you
 have
scanned the object and the barcode is recognized, the phone will speak
 and
show in braille what the object is. Moving to the right one option will
 give
you the more info button, assuming there is more info in the database,
 which
will give you more specific information about the product such as
ingredients', manufacturer, serving size if applicable, calories, a
 recipe
if appropriate, etc. Moving to the right one more option lands you on
 the
option to Google the product where you can find even more info, along
 with
prices from nearby retail markets. The app will jump directly to this
 button
if there is no further info in the databases about this product. This
function is ladled as web search. Moving to the right one more time
 gives
you a button where you can report wrong descriptions. I have never
 gotten
one of these, though my experience with this app is still relatively
limited. I have been told by those who have contacted Digit-Eyes that
 the
customer service people are very prompt and respond positively to
 feedback.
Flicking right one more time will land you on the Scan button again.

Teeny Labels for Digit-Eyes

2012-10-09 Thread Nancy M
Several members of this group have asked us to add the small Avery address
labels that are 80 per sheet (4 across and 20 down).

We've made a couple of changes to the way we generate the code and we are
now able to produce a nice, readable code on the small labels.

So if you are one of the folks who wanted to use the 5167 or 8167 labels,
enjoy!

And if anyone has other sizes or types that they'd like to see, please let
us know so we can set them up!

I have lost VO only once by using this reset, and that was because I got
distracted and ended up holding it for about twenty seconds. I think there
is a timing limit. However, with both the Ipad 3 and the iPhone 5, VO can
 be
brought back with the tripple-click of the home key. I got an iPad 3 and
 out
of the box the tripple-click worked. I then tried it with the iPhone 5 and
this was also the case. No longer is sighted help or a computer connection
necessary. This seems to now be built in by default. I like it!

Re: Should resetting the iPhone in IOS 6 cause loss of VoiceOver

2012-10-09 Thread Grant Hardy
David,

That is very bizarre indeed and certainly shouldn't be happening by
design. Sounds like a bug that should be reported to Apple
accessibility. Do you ever lose VoiceOver when rebooting your phone
normally?

Also, not to get into a whole debate about resets and crashes again,
but I don't know that this procedure should be carried out on a daily
basis. Yes it's officially condoned by Apple, but only if powering off
and on the phone isn't working normally. It may not crash the phone
but it's certainly a safety mechanism that isn't meant to be used
unless normal operation of the phone isn't working.

Moderator's note about buy/sell/trade items - Was Re: RefreshABraille18 for sell 1400.00 Shipped

2012-10-09 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Hello all. This is just a reminder that while we don't want this list to
turn into another buy/sell/trade list, occasionally messages do come
through like this. However, if you have any questions or comments about
an item which is being advertised, please take it off list. Remember
that whether someone thinks an item is too much or too little in asking
price, it's not anything to do with the list at large. So again, please
take this off list.

I have a litely used APH RefreshABraille18 for sell. it comes with a
slip on case, rubberized and swade, great for transport in a bag and
protects it from scuffs and also comes with a retractable USB charging
cable. (cable only supplies power no data, you must provide your own
standard USB mini cable for use with a USB data connection) unit was
purchased on march 12, of this year, unit has been lightly used and
still functions as if straight out of the box. very fast, crisp
responsive braille and has worked great with both mac os, IOS and
windows connections, both Bluetooht and USB.
I am selling it due to the fact I just don't find myself using on a
daily, or even a weekly bases.
I am asking $1400.00 shipped and insured. the unit is only 6 months old
and I've heard are on back order with APH. unit has a great long lasting
battery lasting over days, and is just a beautiful peace of tech.

Muxica crashing

2012-10-09 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Hi all. I have an iPhone 4S with iOS 5.1.1 and when I load the latest
Muxica from David Morton, it immediately kicks me back to the home
screen and never loads. I contacted David and he responded that this
should be fixed in the next release and that right now this shouldn't be
affecting iOS 6 users. So, in case you have this app and are still
running iOS 5.1.1 like I am, the app shouldn't crash after the next update.

Cheers.

Re: Tune-in Radio

2012-10-09 Thread Richard Turner
It does not deal with podcasts, only internet streaming stations.
The search is a bit strange since the last couple updates.
If you go to browse, then double tap on car mode, you will find a search option
where you can search for particular stations, categories, etc.

Richard

Any thoughts, and any feedback on what yall think of the app?

RE: using the bookmark app?

2012-10-09 Thread Richard Turner
The short answer if you are using a PC is:
In iTunes search for a unique phrase that will get you all of the parts of
the book, say author, or title in the music search field.
Then, tab into those results and hit control+a to select them all, then hit
control+I for get info and it will ask you if you want to edit multiple
items. Hit y, for yes.
Then, you need to go to the options tab.
Then, tab to where it says Kind and hit a, which should bring up audio
book and tab. There are checkboxes or radio buttons, I can't remember right
now, but you want to have it set to remember your place and ignore when
shuffling.
Then tab to OK and hit enter.

They will process and no longer show up under music, they will now show up
under books.

Sync your phone with iTunes and then Launch the bookmark app and it should
find the books.

If you are using a Mac, someone will have to explain those steps, but that
is it in a nutshell.

HTH,
Richard

is only able to detect one finger. I strongly encourage anyone having
complications with commands (iPhone is not doing what I am telling it to do
with my commands) really needs to go to settings, general, accessibility,
voice-over, practice area, and practice the commands until you do what you
believe you are doing, 100% of the time. I even encourage you to feel pressure
whilst doing so (imagine the phone is ringing and you need to answer it right
now for example). When you do this well, not only do you improve your ability
to control your iPhone, you may well figure out what mistakes you were making
before.

Re: Should resetting the iPhone in IOS 6 cause loss of VoiceOver

2012-10-09 Thread David Chittenden
Unless you get hit by this quite rare bug. VO is literally completely reset to
factory defaults and triple-click home is switched off. It's hard to duplicate
though.

I like it!

this.

It's not a price savings, or anything like that. I think it used to be free
directory assistance or somethings like that.

Any help appreciated, as I'm getting ready to sign up with Verizon and want
to make sure I get all my ducks in a row.

Thanks in advance. Keith

Everything is described in the detailed help
sections in the app or you can use podcasts from sixthmode.com or
 applevis.com.

Re: [Maccessibility] Hide Newsstand In A Folder On iOS 6 With One Click, No Jailbreak Required

2012-10-09 Thread Darcy Burnard
Hi. This is one of the Maccessibility noted posts, which is not an article
itself, but a link to somewhere else. This is the first post of this type that
I have personally made, and the convention is to add some descriptive text,
which I neglected to do. I definitely apologize for the confusion. The post
is a link to an article on Mac Stories, which describes a utility that moves
the news stand folder in to another folder. There is a manual way to do this,
but I've personally not had success with it. I'm not sure if it's possible to
do it manually with VoiceOver.
Anyway, I did test the utility, and it does work. It's supposed to create a
folder called Magic, and place news stand in there. What I did was to rename
that folder to unused, and I moved in all the other built-in apps I don't use
like stocks and passbook.
Again, sorry for the confusion.

2012-10-09 Thread Cheryl Homiak
I didn't really find it confusing; I just kept following the trail till I got
to the app. The only thing I can't figure out is why it didn't work for me. My
phone was recognized and then the hide newsstand was dimmed so I thought it
must be doing something but the folder was never changed. Kind of disappointing
but maybe I did something wrong. Will go back and give it another look.
