RE: Moving apps around the screen?

2019-11-14 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
You may want to do a Google search for something like “How to move apps with
Voiceover), you will find plenty of instructions like this one:

Organizing Apps in iOS 10 With Voiceover -
iAccessibility

Also, if you search the archives you will find many posts where it has been
explained.

Sorry, if you need somebody to write it out for you this time somebody else has
to come to the rescue, it's been a very long day today and as I said, that
information is easily available in the archives or by finding an article or
Podcast about it.

RE: Unable to locate 'return to ..' on the screen, after latest IOS update

2019-11-14 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
It’s already a lot better in 13.2.2, I actually have no problems locating the
;”Back to Mail” button at the top left of the screen which I often use when I
visit a website after tapping on a link in an email.

I think you will find it will be fixed in iOS 13.3.
At least, it works in the beta.

Re: problem with Audible app crashing

2019-11-14 Thread Teresa Christian
Hi Mark,
In the past I've usually waited before downloading a new IOS. This
time I downloaded 13 right off the bat and have regretted it ever
since. My phone was so wonkey I did have to take it to the Apple
store. I felt lucky I got away with only going once and another
session on the phone with Apple disability.
So what they did was took it back to factory settings, put IOS 13 on.
They changed the battery, they said some of what was happening was
battery related.
As I'm saying this, I just had another idea. So even though they
changed the battery, since then it has problems over heating at
various times.
When I text for just a few minutes it gets very hot.
Other times and with other applications it will heat up in different
parts of the phone, nothing consistently though. The texting is the
only consistent thing.
Richard suggested getting them to run diagnostics on the phone.
If there were a battery issue that would show up then wouldn't it?

RE: problem with Audible app crashing

2019-11-14 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Teresa,

Do you have any issues with any other audio book playback apps such as Learning
Ally or BARD Mobile?

I'm not certain why this might work but, aside from installing a completely
fresh copy of the OS on my phone, I would probably try the reset all settings
option, electing not to erase all of the data but choosing one of the other
sub-options.

How are you attempting to listen to the Audible playback? Is the sound coming
through the internal speaker?, Apple AirPods? A wired headset? etc.?

I keep thinking this may have something to do with some kind of display driver
or something that needs to be reset back to the default.

The truth is that iOS was not designed for the end user to be able to look
under the proverbial hood, as it were.

As I said, if all else fails, try using the reset all settings, first. If that
does not work and you have reached the end of your proverbial rope, you can
always completely reset the phone. Doing this will erase all of your data but
it would be one way to start from as clean of an install short of using a
computer to refresh the device.

I hate the idea of you spending so much time on this problem as I know how
truly frustrating it can be when something crucial to your enjoyment does not
function as expected.

I would suggest that you take the phone to an Apple store but the first thing
they will do is have you back up the phone, to iCloud or a computer and then
they will wipe all of the data as I have suggested above.

Mark

Is there an app that can use Latitude/Longitude to pinpoint a location?
I have a client who is in a program studying geology where they need to
pinpoint where a sample came from using latitude and longitude.

Re: problem with Audible app crashing

Yes, when you downloaded it again, it would have been the current version.
Maybe its time to call Apple Accessibility and get them to run a diagnostic on
your phone.
This is so strange.

That didn't work so they told me to call Apple back again.
I did this morning and they said they would just have me do what I

I do have IOS13.2.2 so that is updated.
The lady at Audible said she has the exact same set up I do.
iPhone 7, IOS 13.2.2 and uses the Audible app and she is not having
this problem.
Any ideas to try next?

Re: IPad Pro first impressions

2019-11-14 Thread Justin Harris
Yes, this helps a ton! Thanks for that!
Another cool thing I just figured out is that my iPad does output enough power
to work with my audio interface. So remote broadcasting to my online radio
station just might work after all, which would be great as it seems this is
faster and has a better wifi card or chip than my laptop, plus celular data.
Loving this thing even more by the second.
Thanks for the response, as I wasn't sure if my messages were going through,
and thanks for the tips.

Re: IPad Pro first impressions

2019-11-14 Thread Anna Dresner
Hi Justin,

When you touch something in a SEttings category on the left of the screen, the
settings for that category appear on the right. It may help to imagine a line
going down the screen somewhere in the middle. It may be toward the left or
right, depending on the app.

The same thing works in Mail, where the list of messages is on the left, and
the message you have selected is on the right. In Messages, the conversations
are on the left, and the messages from the selected conversation are on the
right.

I hope that helps.

Best,
Anna

IPad Pro first impressions

2019-11-14 Thread Justin Harris
Hi all,
I just got my iPad pro and wow! I am amazed! The new Pro design and features
make the 2018 standard iPad I had before feel very old. It has been a while
since I have done much of anything on an iPad, and there is a learning curve
with the way things are displayed in some apps like settings, but so far I'm
loving it!
The speakers are quite good! The iPad is so thin. I'm really amazed.
I do have a few questions though. How does one use split screen, and how well
does it work with Voiceover? Is there a VO gesture to jump from one part of an
app to another? What I mean is, for example with the way things are displayed
in Settings. One can tap on the selected item, but then those options don't
just come up in full screen like in IOS. It seems that said settings then show
up in a different part of the app, like a drop down. It would be quite nice to
have a way to jump quickly between those different sections.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Has anyone used the new Echo Buds and can offer comments?

2019-11-14 Thread Alan Lemly
Hi List,

I hesitate to ask about a Bluetooth earphone device with the Bluetooth
Headphones thread nearing 80 messages but I'll plow on.

I'm curious about the Echo buds Bluetooth earphones that were announced by
Amazon a few weeks ago. They sell for $129 USD and I'm wondering how well
they work for those using VoiceOver on an iDevice. I won't be purchasing
anything before the Black Friday deals are announced but I'd like to get
comments on a product before spending that much money. I don't have any
Bluetooth earphones because I find the wired Apple earpods to meet most of
my listening needs.

I expect I use the BARD Mobile app the majority of the time on my iPhone 8
and I'm a bit confused how the Echo Buds work with it and whether the Amazon
Alexa app on my iPhone is needed to use the Echo Buds with BARD Mobile.

Thanks in advance for any comments you can offer.

Alan Lemly

The Otter box Case and iPhone 8 question

2019-11-14 Thread Debbie Downey
Hi all,

I'm going to upgrade to an iPhone 8 and I wondered if anyone knows if there
is still a problem with using an Otterbox Case with Voiceover? I think I
remember hearing that there was a small gap between the screen protector and
the phone so when you performed voiceover gestures they didn't always work.
Is this still true?

Also, I believe the iPhone 8 is the first iPhone to not have a dedicated
headphone jac. If this is so, does an adapter come in the box or do you need
to purchase one and what kind do people recommend?

Thank you!

Debbie

I suspect there is some charge, but probably best to follow their instructions.

Press the button up towards the device selection switch for, Previous Track /

The thing is, that if we see the guy we've seen before at Wal-Mart electronics,
he'd let me try a Logitech. If I could be sure it works better than the
seven-dollar one, I'd get it. I rather think that it will work better than the
little sports one, which is probably a good make do for someone with no hearing

Bluetooth is so dependable with my hearing aids, that I know with a good set,
I'd be pleased with it.

2019-11-14 Thread 'Lynda boose' via VIPhone
I have an iphone 8 and am trying to arrange my apps. Need some
suggestions for how to easily move things around.

Also, how do I move something from one page to another page?

Thank you.

problem with Audible app crashing

2019-11-14 Thread Teresa Christian
Hi all,
When I open my Audible app, it closes in 2 seconds and it does this
consistantly.
Has anyone else been having this problem?
I first called apple, they said it is a 3rd party app so call them.
I spent an hour on the phone yesterday with Audible. They had me do
what I'd already done myself several times which was reboot my phone
and reinstall the Audible app.
That didn't work so they told me to call Apple back again.
I did this morning and they said they would just have me do what I
already did myself and did with the Audible folks.
I do have IOS13.2.2 so that is updated.
The lady at Audible said she has the exact same set up I do.
iPhone 7, IOS 13.2.2 and uses the Audible app and she is not having
this problem.
Any ideas to try next?
Thanks, Teresa☺

They recommend charging them for three hours.
I suspect there is some charge, but probably best to follow their instructions.
I will ad that.

Press the button down towards the charging port for, Next Track / Fast
Forward.

Previous track/Rewind, located at the bottom of the right ear piece between
the USB port and the power/device selection switch.
Press the button up towards the device selection switch for, Previous Track /
Rewind.

The left ear piece has two small tactile dots on it. If you turn the cover

the battery, which can be replaced by someone with jeweler tools; and a spot to
store the RF dongle when not in use with the computer.

I doubt you find a Bose Quiet Comfort 35 II for that price, here in

Re: Disney Plus accessibility and described movies

2019-11-14 Thread Wayne Merritt
I was able to enable description after starting a movie. Have someone
hit the menu item within the player, and that will offer the option of
changing to English-audio descriptions. Once set, it will remain for
anything you watch that has description. It will also carry over to
any other devices or interfaces you use. For instance, if I enable it
on the computer in Google Chrome, I can then use the iOS app and enjoy
the same description without having to do anything.

I think you will find it will be fixed in iOS 13.3.
At least, it works in the beta.

Hi Sieghard and all,
You can connect the Logitech H800 to Echo or the Echo Dot. I have one of my
H800 so when I want to listen to something on the Echo Dot I just start the dot
playing and push theswitch to the middle position and it connect to the Echo.
Just to let you all know you can connect the H800 to computer by a dongle, or
Bluetooth, or Bluetooth to the iPhone or echo or any other Bluetooth device.

I doubt you find a Bose Quiet Comfort 35 II for that price, here in Canada they
cost $449 at Best Buy. The ability to use Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa
natively on the headset is interesting and a great feature, but if I think

Hi Doc.  Success!  I had to recopy the Niv Bible again onto the thumb drive.
This time it copied the whole folder without any error messages coming up.  Now
all I have to do is to figure out how to find the chapter and verse I want to
look up.  Take care.

Re: Disney Plus accessibility and described movies

2019-11-14 Thread Ed Worrell
No I don’t think so. The only way I can think to make it play all the time is
to go into settings, Accessibility and turn Audio description on. If the Disney
app uses the default iOS player it should activate the Described Audio the nthe
video starts playing. If the Disney player doesn’t utilize the default player
in iOS you have to start playing the video, pause the video and then double tap
on the video and navigate to the audio tab at the top of the screen and find
the option in that menu to activate it.

I hope this helps.

I have searched the app on my phone and I'm trying to find out how to turn on
the descriptive feature. My husband who is sighted was able to do it after the
movie started. Is there a way to turn this on prior to the start of a movie and

The Accessibility of both the iOS app and the Apple TV is great. There are no
unlabeled buttons the navigation is simple enough. I did have some loading
issues here on the first day but those for the most part have smoothed out over
the last day or so.

I do know most of the newer movies have Audio Description as My wife and I
watched the new Dumbo movie and it was present in that one.

Actually, that price came from Walmart, since Carolyn had asked previously
about the H800 at Walmart.
I suspect it is similar or cheaper at Amazon.
I know the Logitech H800 is about $10 less at Best Buy or Amazon than at
Walmart.
I think Carolyn has already dismiss the Bose as an option given their price tag

There are, however, Bluetooth dongles which you can plug into

I am always surprised at the implementation of /Bluetooth even

Robin, you didn't mention returning books, but a message in the thread did.
I too have only returned books that were awful.

in the US, an annual Gold membership is $149 for 12 credits.
That is roughly $12.50 per credit.
The idea of being able to return books is if you are dissatisfied with the book.
Returning them for any other reason is unethical at best.
The Audible app is easy to use.
Personally I'm waiting for the commercial books to show up on BARD Mobile,
which many more are doing these days.
The subject line was about adding an equalizer, but it was based on a false
premiss.
BARD has a tone setting, but it is not in three separate parts, which a true
equalizer would have been.
You can adjust the Tone setting to more bass, normal, or more treble, but you
cannot say; add more bass, and at the same time add more mid-range.

I have the option to buy 3 extra credits every time I have only 1 credit left
and I then use it. Once I am down to 0 and before my monthly membership renews
I always see that option.

I am going to have to agree with Marry deleting books in the app is a pain.
They shouldn't have ever changed the way it use to work. @Josh I would have to
really hate my books to return them. I am hoping to build up a massive library
there. For some reason I am not able to buy extra credits right now. The app on
IOS works fine for the most part, I hate the app on win 10 though.

I'm sure somebody has done a tutorial or Podcast about the Audible

your library of available books, how to delete them and that you have
to double tap the book title if you want the jump forward and
backward buttons to turn into Skip Chapter and Go back a chapter it's
really a very simple and fully accessible app.

iPad os

2019-11-14 Thread Justin Harris
Hello everyone,
So, my iPad pro is coming in today, and I'm pretty excited for that. I am
curious as to how well the new iPad os is working. Is it buggy? How well does
split screen work with Voiceover?
Also, while i know there are things I just can't do with an iPad that I could
do with a mac, I am wondering, once a keyboard is paired with the device, how
close does the experience come to matching the experience of using VO on the
mac? For those of you fortunate enough to have used both a mac as well as an
iPad with keyboard, do you feel that you can get stuff done just as fast on the
iPad as on the mac? Is keyboard navigation fully there? Or, do you find
yourself using mostly the touch screen and falling back on the keyboard just to
type out long messages? The last time I used a keyboard with an iPad was with
the very first iPad that ever came out, and it left a bit to be desired.
Finally, which keyboard case do you all recommend? Does the official Apple one
provide enough tactile feedback for you? In youtube reviews, I hear about how
flat it is and that there is very little key travel. I understand it's not a
laptop, but is there enough tactile feedback for you, or is there a better case
out there for that? Or, do you go without the keyboard? Is voiceover on the
iPad where it needs to be to make the keyboard worth it?
I have a laptop. It's certainly not the fastest, but I do have one. So, this
will mostly be a media consumption device, but glad I can also get some serious
work done with it too. I run an online radio station, and while I have been
using my laptop for remote broadcasts, I wonder if the iPad might work better.
Have any of you connected one to any type of audio interface? Now that the iPad
pro uses USB type C, I would think this should work fine, but I'm wondering if
the device would be recognized. Lastly, I am curious as to whether or not
anyone has tried out ann app called teamviewer on the iPad. It is used to
remotely access ones computer, or also to provide support for other people. I
normally just use the NVDA remote addon to access the station computer if
needed during a remote broadcast, but if I were to start doing them on the
iPad, I would absolutely have to have a way not only to send and receive audio,
and I know there are apps for that, but also control the studio pc from
whereever I am at the time. Curious to know how well teamviewer works and if it
plays nice with VO. Obviously, for this to work with my pc back in studio, I
know I would also need that keyboard case for the iPad. But, with teamviewer,
can one alt tab through open programs on the pc, or will alt tab move you away
from teamviewer on the iPad to some other open application? I know this is a
pretty specific use case, but if it would work, that would be great, as the
iPad pro has better specs than my laptop, and would be nice to be able to have
a more fluid and productive remote broadcast.
