One thing to bear in mind in terms of resources is that something like the PL8820 (which was the smallest 10Gb capable unit they had previously) had dual, 8 core Xeons and 64GB of RAM in it. It was built to handle up to 40Gbps, so I'm sure it had some buffer, but something to think about..
