hi,

does the jaws OCR feature also read JPEG files? like a photo of a text-file?
i tried running a document OCR on it by pressing O and then D, but every
time there is a bell/ buzzer kinda thing that goes off, like its the wrong
command.

so please let me know if there's a different command for texts in pictures.
i don't mean a scanned document, I mean a photograph. the 1
that opens with windows photo viewer.
I'm using jaws 16 with windows 7.
thanks,

Shireen.

PDFs created through Coreldraw and page maker are not readable out of the box.
The best starting point would be to run OCR through Fine Reader, and then try
reading. However, this is as generic as it can get. A much depends on type of
content, security settings, and other factors.

Getting one copy and then examining can get a yes or no answer. PDF in general
is readable, if it has text.

Feel free to let me know if you have questions or require further help.

here one thing everybody should understand if we hold white cane in
your hand anybody will come forward to help you, this I have noticed
in Delhi & bangalore, but unfortunately many totally blind persons are
also hesitating to hold white cane, one best example i came across on
9th August 2017 that is yesterday while crossing in ITO area of Delhi
I was holding white cane to cross the road a auto driver who was
waiting for passanger he himself came forward and helped me to cross
one of the busiest road of Delhi,, for poor blind persons white cane
is the only escort,

The case in point is how to convince reluctant parents that a totally

reliable

As Mr Galani said: "Dependence is not undignified" I agree and I
believe in the practical notion of interdependence. We all whether
disabled or non-disabled are interdependent beings. But being a
disabled, accompanying escort certainly brings many uncomfortable
gazes about ones abilities and capabilities. I often wonder if India
was a rich developed country could blind people had afford escorts?
I've no qualm in writing on publick platform, its a blessing for blind
people that India is a poor country where cheap labour is available in
abundance. So if you're blind and you've job and little bit money you
can hire less educated, semi/unskilled attendant. Otherwise in the
fast growing world no one has time to say hy to non-disabled let alone
blind people. So poverty of others is a critical constituency which
enables blind people to take escort along. Otherwise, how many car
walas come out of their cars and help blind individuals? its rikshaw
pullers and auto wala uncles and near/distant relatives who are less
educated and out of formal job become escort.

Balanced way is to take help, wherever necessary.
Necessity may differ with background, specific situation and monetary

Just sharing a sentence from a working paper which I've cited for
publication consideration. Colrege: (1999) while commenting about
youth with disabilities writes: 'what are the markers of being an
adult for an individual with disabilities, who is regarded as
dependent, in need of care and overprotected' (cited in Singal, 2008).
Now questions arise: In a growing age of hyper capitalism and
individual excellence, does dependence entails any degree of dignity?
And on a moral ground should our conscience allow us to always
accompany escort if he/she is not at all interested in the events
we're to attend? I've been to many seminars/conferences in Indian
cities and have found that many educated blind people bring escorts
who're least interested for the seminar. And then they demand
reimbursement for their travel cost on account of their blindness.
This is the reason the Indian Council of Social Science Research and
Council of Historical Research resist from funding blind people cause
they don't only seek funding for their travel cost but their escorts
also.

2017-08-10 Thread harshad solanki via Ai
you need to convert pdf file into image after then viet ocr can
convert those images into text file, which can be read with any screen
reader.

[Ai] Help required in using NVDA

2017-08-10 Thread Chandrashekhar Kulkarni via Ai
Dear all,
Recently I have started using NVDA extensively on account of problems
created by Jaws.
However, I face some problems in using the same in some applications.
e.g. In Gmail when I go to reply any mail NVDA reads reply, reply to
all, forward at a stretch making it difficult to select one of these
options. In Jaws ins. f7 lists only links whereas in NVDA it lists all
elements. Is there any command to list only the links. Alternatively
is it possible to select one option among these and in what way?
Further in ms word in save dialog box while using Jaws if we go to
desktop split button and press down arrow we can easly select
locations such as computer and in shell folder view one can go to a
particular drive. In NVDA it seems this is not the case. Is there any
easy way to go to a particular drive to save a document?
Sincerely,
C. B. Kulkarni

Re: [Ai] Reading pdf files

2017-08-10 Thread Amar Jain via Ai
For any parent, I would love to be still a kid, so feel free to address me by
my first name.

As I mentioned, giving a yes or no without knowing the kind of PDF would not be
possible. As in when you get the PDF, we can figure out exact specifics. We
will figure out the solution which works.

OCR is a process, which converts scanned documents into text, which allows Jaws
to read out to us. Otherwise, a mere scan generates an image which is not
readable by Jaws.

My number is: 9892622230.

Amar Jain

Hi Aruni,

In addition to installing Kindle for PC, you also need to install the
accessibility plug-in. That makes the program a little more accessible.

I use Jaws17, and recently discovered that support for reading Kindle books
with Eloquence was introduced in Jaws18.

Hi all,

There was a discussion on using Kindle for PC on this list a while ago. This
happened when the list was on the old domain. The new list archives don't
however seem to have any of these messages.

I use Kindle for PC and read books on the computer. Is it possible to locate

any Kindle device?

Many thanks.

Hi team,
hope you all doing good!
since there is disscussion going about kindle, I thing its my time to
give a clarification in this regard.
both kindle for PC and Kindle device are really accessible.
kindle devices have its own screan reader.
kindle for pc app is usable by both Jaws and NVDA.
As one of our members says yes jaws 18 is support for reading books in

Though the Nvda or Jaws fail to read some books, the Kindle for PC app
itself use the inbuild Narrator and read the books for us.
except some periodicles, cartoon books and magazines kindle reader
device can read all other Kindle books.
hope the info is usefull.
Thank you.

[Ai] AARYAMAN SHAH reports: Mumbai: Visually impaired girls form human pyramid

2017-08-10 Thread avinash shahi via Ai
The 16-year-old girl atop the three-layer human pyramid appears a bit
nervous as she takes the coconut, but soon, with all her might, she
breaks the Handi.
Joy erupts from the girls who formed the pyramid and music and dance
ensues. The human pyramid was made up of visually impaired girls.
http://indianexpress.com/article/cities/mumbai/mumbai-visually-impaired-girls-form-human-pyramid-4791346/
This is the first time that the girls at the National Association for
the Blind (NAB) hostel in Andheri (W) aged 16 to 20 are participating
in the Dahi
Handi, days before the city celebrates Janmashtami. The girls come
from various places across the state, and some live in the NAB hostel
where the event
took place.

Jyotsna Garde, superintendent of the NAB girls’ hostel said, “The
girls expressed their interest in participating in Dahi Handi after
which we decided
to host the event for them. We will continue this celebration every year.”

Their trainer, 30-year-old Ponnalagar Devendra, trains these girls at
a ground in Matunga. Visually impaired himself, he says he trained
very hard to become
a professional and had been performing during the festival at Nav
Maharashtra Mitra Mandal in Sion.

He said, “I was always passionate about the festival. After talking to
my friends, I decided to start training other visually impaired boys,
and we participated
in 100 competitions with no one getting injured.” He says, “I decided
to train these girls as well, to prove that gender or disability does
not reduce
our goals.”

Heena, 16, who studies at Ruia College, says that she decided to train
because she loved the festival and was happy to train in a place close
to her college.
When asked if she would do it again next year, she said, “Of course,
there is no doubt about that.”
