Re: Why most kids prefer and care about online games? A topic to discuss

2018-04-09 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — General Game Discussion : Dark via Audiogames-reflector

Re: Why most kids prefer and care about online games? A topic to discuss

This has been an interesting topic to read. One of my problems however with a lot of this discussion is that people are forgetting one point the article coco made points to quite nicely. everyone is a teenager at some point! Teenagers are not some strange other species, and despite a lot of companies who want to reduce people down to sets of demographics and homogeneous statistics teenagers are a diverse group. Both on this forum and in reality I have run into teenagers with an astounding maturity level who act far older than their years and have quite seriously well thought out opinions. I've also run into people in their fifties and older who behave  stereotypically immature spoiled brats. Even as regards the articles point about dogmatic opinions, yes I have met teenagers who hold very rigid and energetically applied views, but I've also met teenagers who show a surprising level of rationality and are able to think around a situation. In terms of online  games there have been several quite interesting things said in this topic, but one specific thing does occur to me. Online games are online and played with other people! The plane truth is as Haramir and Sirbadger said, people who play online games want to interact with other people. we live in a society where increasingly people are more and more isolated and devalued by very large organisations, where people reduced to  repetitive prophet  generators for large companies. The response to this by lots of people is to band or gang together, form friendship groups, adopt strong political or religious affiliations, rigidly asert some specific querk of identity or behaviour in the name of solidarity hell or in the worse case join gangs or cliques. People, are looking for a society to be valued in since the society we live in doesn't value anyone very much. Since blind people tend to be either social outcasts or rigidly identified as Blind! this situation is actually exacerbated. As such, online games can fill a distinct need in people's lives, especially those online games that go along with identity, for example heavily oreintated role playing games, teams on fps games or the like. Often assertion of this identity is aggressively competitive, for example you get to be far more aserted as yourself if you can Ko someone else, and hay as long as it is online and not causing harm whats the problem with that? after all better riddling someone with bullets to prove your superiority online than doing it in reality. The problem tends to be that online games need to be constructed and run in such a way as to allow everyone who wishes to play to have the opportunity to enjoy themselves, and as Dentin has often said of Alteraeon, this is less easy said than done. Often with games like deathmatch I have noticed  people create online games because they see a perceived need for such (which is quite real), but then either do not have the ability to administrate and run the game in a fashion that is fair to all, or still worse, end up falling foul of the one or two bad apples with a grudge who's intentions are! genuinely malicious. So online games aren't a bad thing or the fact that kids or anyone else wants to play online games isn't a bad thing, its just a question of how the games are run and administrated, - much indeed as is the case with web forums where  pontificate endlessly over their opinion . I'll finish by saying that I personally don't have anything against online games, but for me the competitive aspect just isn't important, one reason why I've never checked in to the likes of rtr, and just reserve myself to the odd game of crazy party now and again, though I do enjoy a good mud or rpg with lots of quests and stuff to discover. This has pretty much always been the case for me, right from when I started playing online games when I was 22, and indeed probably would have done if I'd have had access to online games in those dreaded teenaged years previously .

Re: Reading drum notation

2018-04-09 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — Off-topic room : G-Rad via Audiogames-reflector

Re: Reading drum notation

Unfortunately it's not that easy, especially since well,  drums can be written in various ways.  As opposed to the actual notes involved, they use an x as opposed to the actual  oval shape to resemble a cymbal or cross stick, it's variable depends on the song, where it's at, and of course there's no set "note name" for each drum  position.    However, if the song is on a 4 piece kit with  just two toms, kick, and snare, the notes are on the spaces of the staph,, if there's more, the notes could be on the lines of the staph or the tom could be on a line  above or below the snare drum, it does get confusing at times.A workaround is, if you can find a basic drum lesson or two in midi form, open them in something like reaper, and look at the  midi notes of the file.  Generally, they are stationary and can make it much easier to follow, especially since with OSara, it announces what bar, and beat. and percent of beat. Most commonly with midi:C2 is KickD2 is snareC-Sharp 3 is a crash,F-Sharp 2 is a hi-hat,D3, C3, B2, A2, G2, and F2 are toms. high to low. A ride is generally around the D-Sharp 3 area, but I could be wrong.I know Reaper does notation, but not sure if they import it.Sorry if this is over your head.

Do you have a braille display? If not, unfortunately there's not much you can do as far as reading braille music, aside from getting your hands on some physical sheet music. Still working on the project I mentioned above, but have unfortunately run into some software issues that I need to resolve before I can create the tutorials as I planned. Once I get started though, definitely planning to teach everything starting with the basics of braille notation, and you've got me thinking about ways I can potentially present the information for those who don't have access to a display. Thinking something like audio tutorials of rudiments.

Re: Tascam DP32-SD

I bought one a few years back but didn't get much luck. Admittedly, I didn't dedicate much time to trying to learn it, but found it a bit too much trouble than I expected. I was quite disappointed, since I grew up using the Tascam multi track recorders, but the one I had growing up had a lot more physical controls on the interface than the newer DP32. For example, the old one I had essentially had a full channel strip with EQ and pan controls for each track, whereas the DP32 only has a set of faders and the input gain knobs, if I remember correctly. Clearing out a lot of my old gear, and hoping to give the DP32 another shot before I decide on whether or not to sell it, and would be happy to share anything I learn once I get around to it. Good luck!

Got a couple more to add from Audio Assault:Wrote up a review of their Westwood Drums instrument. Generally accessible and great if you can get it on sale. You can check out some sound samples and more accessibility info at https://playingthisbyear.com/2018/03/31 … o-assault/Their Dominator amp sim is also somewhat accessible, and hoping to get around to writing a full review of it soon. Basically, you can access some of the parameters and change presets with the screen review mode on NVDA and the Windows 10 OCR. Still need to play with it some, but was able to change quite a few of the parameters, though some of them didn't seem to work properly. Like Westwood, great if you can get it on sale considering any potential accessibility issues.

It doesn't mean that you have to shove it in someone's face every time they post on the forum, though.  I think we have established it that once again, this game is a clone of another one. all Ivan needs to Barry  it even deeper, is a recording of   Him creating a new account and coming online, doing all the ultra power commands on the server, providing Skype messages, etc.  him creating a new account will ensure that the commands work without the admin rights.  To folks who say that we don't need to kill a game just because it's a clone, keep saying it and see what happens. People would start releasing clones on regular basis.  Right, I'm done.

Re: Here's my video editing setup and all I do for my videos.

Neat trick with using the phone audio to line up the separate audio tracks, didn't think of that! I use a Zoom Q8, myself. It uses the same interchangeable mic capsules as the handheld Zoom recorders which I had already, as well as a pair of combo XLR and 1/4 jacks on the back. It has a touch screen, but once I had someone set it up as far as activating the timer and setting format preferences, it's as simple as hitting the physical record button. I have an adapter that allows me to mount it on a regular mic stand, and I keep a dedicated stand for it that I've got marked for the proper height and angle for shooting my videos. You can set it to record your audio into your video, which takes all the guess work out of aligning, or you can record to a video track plus up to four audio tracks simultaneously which would still allow you to get multi channel audio that starts and is synced to the video track.

Some players are getting an odd message about their maps being out of date.  If this happens to you, grab the patch again because I've now included the maps.  It was an odd situation since the patch didn't mess with the maps at all in the first place, lol.

Re: Redspot, blood and paril. First public beta released!

Sorry, haven't checked this topic in quite a while.I'll try and explain, although it's otherwise complicated. First, grab some sandbags and ladders, you'll need them. Let's assume you have a base that you want to destroy located at 801 on the x, 36 on the z. Note: this requires some logic/calculation, in this post I won't be taking this into account as that's not really the point. Meaning, these steps were designed more to give an idea of how one would go about doing this before accuracy.Setup sandbags vertically starting on the ground by the fense. This structure will require something like 3 or 4. Build a ladder right behind the last one. Climb up that ladder, step forward, place a sandbag, step back and place a ladder so you can climb up to that sandbag you just placed. Do this until base_z-your_z is greater-than 15 but less-than 30, since a sandbag is 15 tiles high. Climb your ladder until your_z+15=base_z. You should then be able to climb up that ladder a bit and jump forward on the sandbag, where you'll be 1 behind the base.As I said, this is quite difficult to explain, so let me know if you have questions.

Oh and let me remind you, that when the game was first released in 2016, it had the same packet key as BTB, btb.dev.22 I think. Also /123 to restart NVDA on the hosters machine returned can’t do that if you weren’t an admin, it even has some of the same titles as btb, see titlecheck.bgt. Oh, and let’s not forget how if you tryed making a char called masonasons, or used mason’s old email address the client died.Wish I could get the dam thing to open, I could give you guys even more proof that it’s a complete and utter ultrapower clone. As for ivan’s motives, might I remind you that a big chunk of BTB was his code? Colton was even the developer of up at one point. As ivan already stated in another topic, he’s pissed because they’re using his code and not even giving him proper credit for it.

Re: My Google Home Max adventures

Well, I have hit my first stumbling block that makes me glad I decided to hold on to the Echo until I was sure I was keeping the Google Home Max.We just had a hour long power outage, and when power came back on and I plugged the Max back in, it had lost all of it's setup information. That's crazy! The Echo always remembered its set up information even after being unplugged for a day.So I grabbed my phone and tried to go through the set up again, but when it came time to reconnect to my WiFi, it couldn't connect. The only thing it does is it keeps repeating that it can't connect to WiFi, yada yada yada. I tried my Trek and checked my phone and both had no problem connecting to the WiFi.So, I switched the phone's Bluetooth off and connected to the Max via WiFi, still the exact same behavior. It seems to me the phone can't connect to the Max because after a wait of several minutes it times out and asks if I want to try again. I've tried via both Bluetooth and WiFi numerous times with no luck.A couple of days ago I wanted to retrain Voice Match and ran into the same thing, after saying the training phrases, the Google Home app would attempt to connect to the Max to retrain it, but after several minutes, it would time out with no success. So it seems to me that once initial set up is complete, you can't redo any part of it if needed. Again, that's crazy! If I needed or wanted to re set up the Echo, no problem! So now I have a $400 brick! If I can't find a way to resolve this, it's going back to where it came from for a refund, and I'm going back to the Echo, it at least works.

@72, I obviously have thought of what I'm thinking. Your making yourself look helpless -- exactly what employers dislike. Furthermore, your making your country look like its antiquated and is still in the 80s and 90s (which it clearly is not). Yes, I'd love it if a blind person worked at a business I ran, with heavy-lifting and all that. You ever heard the term 'adaptations'? Its also known as 'accommodations'. 99 percent of corporations are willing to incorporate them to aid you if you successfully get a job with them. Stop trying to make it look like you can't do shit and actually go try stuff before you just say "Oh, blind people can't do this because so and so."

Re: an accessible method to earn a little extra income

I think both sides have valid points here. For example, most high school kids get their start working in fast food establishments, or as cashiers. Sadly, these jobs really aren't all that accessible. I agree that it would be possible for someone to do some of the cooking, or washing dishes in a restaurant, but probably not at  McDonald's or something similar, due to how fast-paced it is. There's also tickets to consider, how exactly does a blind person handle those? I'm not saying it's impossible, but those are barriers that an employer, faced with 25 other applications submitted by able bodied folks, is probably not going to invest time in finding out. Working at a cash register, or really in most other aspects of retail, however, I really can't see how a blind person could do. I speak from experience; both my parents and my sister have spent most of their lives working in such environments. It would necessarily take longer to handle a customer's money, and we all know how impatient most people are. So they would probably complain to the management about that. There is also the messy situation of handling the inaccessible software that the store uses to complete transactions, print receipts, handle gift cards/rewards cards/credit cards, etc. Then there's the act of putting things on the shelves, making sure that stuff is in the correct order, etc. If these things could be accomplished, I would have followed in my family's footsteps a long time ago.now, someone is probably going to mention that kids don't have to work in such places. They could volunteer at the humane society, nursing homes, or at homeless shelters. Altruism looks great on college applications, after all, and I'm only being slightly sarcastic here because it is true to a degree. It's really cliche, though, and not all people are cut out to do that type of stuff. What makes volunteering different, especially for someone who is just going through the motions to make themselves look good, is that this will surely be reflected in their drive and dedication. The difference between slaving away at a crappy job you despise all day long and doing something you despise for the sake of it is usually the money. Sorry to say, but it's true. Then again, not everyone is cut out for retail work, either. Judging by the amount of complaining I've heard throughout my life about it, it can be thankless, exhausting, and gruelling. Clearly, though, it works for the vast majority of people who are just getting their start, even if they hate it.

There's already unique sound effects for each weapon, and sound effects for when your being shot at in the game. In most circumstances I think that sniper fire is not likely to be as big an issue as people are making it out to be, as sniper rifles use bullet physics, travel time, drop off, etc. Such that shooting someone from across the map would largely hinge on either accurately predicting where their going to be or if their standing still, and even then unless they score a perfect headshot with a high powered rifle it likely won't kill them, which makes such engagements more dangerous in mid range rather than long. In most cases you'd know your being shot at and either take or build cover, or start evasive action by jumping and zigzagging like a deranged lunatic, much like all users do in such circumstances. Generally experienced players tend to not stand still in the open as they've grown accustomed to the uncertainty of potential snipers lurking on the proverbial grassy knolls in the area, though whether they decide to build cover and give themselves away plays into an entirely different sort of metagame. @ianhamilton_Its difficult to say how effective a sonifier would be due to one never having been implemented in such a way, it wouldn't likely be perfect, but I think adding another layer of feedback about the environment in addition to audio cues would be quite helpful given the challenges involved. Also keep in mind that the sonifier's playback can be increased to fractions of a second for faster feedback rate, improving potential reaction time for users. I imagine a player could use quick scans for getting a general view of the environment when navigating and using audio cues to listen for any players nearby, or if they happen to suspect anyone they could quickly switch to a "scan only for players" mode for anyone that may be hidding or lurking in their direction, locking on and engaging with auto-aiming if required. Although something else to consider would be if locking on to a player in view could also be a way to detect players in and of itself with its own audio cue, I know the console versions have such an auto-aiming feature but don't think the PC version does.I've also taken some time to update my Audiocraft prototype [here] with a new optimized sonifier with filtering capabilities, speed adjustment, and looping, which may help give a better idea of what such a system might be like.

It may or may not be the 10 tails again, I am not really sure what's happening. But I've gotten a little way in but it seems like this time you can move around in 3d, so I just end up either not getting hit, and not being able to hit, and it turns into a bit of a where do I go from here sort of thing.

Trying DuckDuckGo. Seems to fit my needs perfectly. We'll just have to see if the search results suit me. Last time I tried it, it respected my privacy so much that whenever I searched for a product it didn't really give me anything in the UK. It was mostly US stuff which is no use to me when I want to buy something, so I gave up on it. Seems that might have changed. I don't mind them checking where I am to give me relevant results.

Well, I've seen worse than google toolbar, and while google does mine your data, everyone does, and that's whether you're using their toolbar or whether you're using their site, or their services. At least that one's not hard to get rid of if you inadvertently install it. I guess it would be worth using it if it will let you queue up stuff, even if it lets you download one at a time, and at the slow rate, because you can just let it run until everything is done. And 80KB/s has no appreciable affect on your bandwidth, so its as if you were doing nothing at all.A lot of things are shady these days, like sites that will use some form of _javascript_ to mine for cryptocurrencies while you visit them. Usually kept to the more disreputable torrent sites, etc. Still, one needs to be cautious.

Re: discussion and tips for the Naruto game series

Hi,What makes this game's fighting a bit more challenging than , say, a budokai or a marvel vs capcom is that the fighting is not side-scrolling, you can go up and down as well. In Tenkaichi, this is somewhat easier because there's a lock-on which causes your dash to always be towards your opponent, but I haven't found a way to replicate that in ninja storm 4 yet. Given there are a lot of ranged attacks, your opponent doesn't necessarily need to get close to you to lay on the hurt, so if anyone knows of a way, apart from kawarimi (substitution jutsu) to get close to the opponent consistently I'd love to hear about it.Zersiax

@Dark, it's actually a Western produced game. That's pretty common for Western indi game developers to have Japanese or foreign titles in their names, especially games with anime influences in them, as is also the case with another very popular visual novel, Doki Doki Literature Club, released on September 22, 2017, Doki Doki being a Japanese term commonly associated with a heart beating very fast.

Nice that someone in Japan wrote a romance game with a blind character, though I sort of wish that she wasn't a girl. For some reason its more acceptable to be  a disabled girl in media than a boy. This probably goes with the hole business of the man asking the woman out and all the sexist man as protector crap, and is likely the reason I recently saw one study which noted that in couples with one disabled and one none disabled person, in five out of every six cases it was a disabled woman with a none disabled husband.

@Orko, I was able to get on there today using the forgot password link, but again the silly website won't remember that I have a password so I need to go through the forgot password thing each and every time. I believe this is something to do with being in the Uk, but its pretty stupid when all I want to do is view the movie vault.I'm really not sure what you mean by a toolbar with the sendspace wizard ironcross, its just the standard google toolbar that comes with many install packages as a standard and is more a matter of the redistributable system than the software, its easy enough to just not check the box when you install as I said, hell its easy enough to uninstall the google toolbar if you don't want it anyway. The wizard is useful for handling multiple uploads and downloads, and for being able to check and organise your files on sendspace in a very easy to use way, indeed last I checked the wizard lets you use a lot of functions which aren't accessible on the website itself such as making your downloadable files into folders, as well as have a lot of handy keyboard shortcuts for things, indeed the wizard basically is a file manager for sendspace.Obviously the price of a subscription may or may not be worth it in terms  of how much you use sendspace, but just in terms of a piece of software the wizard doesn't cause any issues, or at least I've had it on my computer since 2010 and never had any myself.

Yeah they don't have a remember me option, which is kind of a standard for websites these days.Ask yourself why they would offer a wizard. There aren't many non-suspicious responses I can think of. Also, and correct me if I'm wrong, but the wizard is only supposed to help you download at non-restricted speeds if you're a premium member, so the fact that it asks to install a toolbar under those conditions, if those conditions are accurate, is quite unacceptable. If I pay for premium, that means remove ads, stop nagging me, don't install auxiliary stuff.A download manager would do all the things this wizard does, but allow you the same features on any site. That said, unless you live in a developing country, there is no need for such these days. The largest files I download off the web take only at max a minute. Things like games on steam, the largest of which are somewhere near 60GB take me about 2 hours, but Steam will do the same thing as a download manger, in that it will restart if you get disconnected or shut down Steam, etc.

God I hate copywrite, I remember once going to  talk by the audio description service over here who explained all the hoops and the fact that descriptions had to be licensed by each redistributor. When you consider subtitles are on pretty much everything these days its quite ridiculous! Still having a few described  episodes would be fine. @Ironcross, in terms of the sendspace wizard, it doesn't do anything else in the background. I believe there is an option on install to install the google toolbar, but you just don't check that box and your fine. I've been using sendspace and the wizard myself for years with no problems. My issue with blindmice is the fact that its really difficult to get on their site and actually check their stuff, since their password system doesn't work. I used to be able to get on by doing the "forgot password" bit each and every time I logged in, but the last couple of times I tried this didn't work either.

Re: Screen reader users: What's your preferred web search engine?

I've personally never had problems with google, though if I want to search youtube I either went to youtube directly and used the search function, or the accessible youtube skin yourtube instead: yourtube here this was true even back when I used Ie, since while I experimented with Bing and a couple of engines, Google was always my choice of default, and now of course I've switched to Chrome full time Google is perfect with that.

Since Chrome is my default Browser of choice and I'm signed in anyway, I've not personally had any problems either with Google or with youtube myself.

He is giving proofs through which means? Breaking a server? His reasons for wanting this topic closed so much are quite obvious but let's not go into that now.

I am old because I heard a dialup modem on a youtube video the other day and I was thinking it didn't sound quite right, like the two sides were having issues on how to switch to full duplex mode.

Re: Why is no one playing tactical battle?

I love the game.  I don't play it too often because the multiplayer support doesn't work. The server was recently brought back up, but it's impossible to play more than one or two turns because connections are dropped for some reason.
