I think you're having some confusion about what that clause in authorized_keys does. According to [1], it basically executes the command for you. So when the backuppc user creates the ssh connection, it runs: '/usr/bin/rrsync /' on the target. You don't need to "initiate" the rsync in this way

Mine stopped working when the backuppc server performed and auto update and changed the samba client. I used Ariel Sanguinetti's solution to fix it. - just in case this helps someone, I've to downgrade samba to 4.1.6 by doing: apt-get install samba=2:4.1.6+dfsg-1ubuntu2
