I'm pretty confident I just saw an adult Goshawk up close feeding on the
side of the road as I drove by. This was at Lower Buttermilk park starting
up Sandbank road. As I came out of the curve, on the park side of the
guardrail, a somewhat bulky raptor was turned sideways to me and turned

Three stunning male Baltimore orioles made a brief appearance at our feeder
station this morning in the hills of Dryden. House wrens appeared overnight
with an increasing number of white-throated sparrows.

An Osprey flew over me this morning as I drove down Middaugh rd in
Brooktondale just off Coddington road. It lifted off from a nest on a
telephone pole right across from a small pond near the bend in the road.
The nest looks precarious as I didn't notice a platform, but maybe there is.

I came across two Common Snipe along North Rd in Dryden this afternoon, just
south of Dutcher Rd. They were quite close to the road, but hunkered down next
to a small pool at the edge of a corn field due to the weather.

hearing. So, like for many others, the Merlin app has been a godsend; it
reminds me of songs and connects me to birds that I know but got rusty on

As a follow up to this post, we hiked Fillmore Glen State Park this morning and
up high in the gorge, near where the gorge trail crosses there was a very
interesting Empidonax flycatcher pair. The birds were easily visible hawking

Someone I know is at the Staples parking lot right now. There is a mother

Nearby a ruby crowned Kinglet flitted through some low trees but was soon

the dike between Knox-Marsellus Marsh and Puddler’s marsh. Between 715 am
and 200 pm, we had a total of 70 people from different bird clubs around

I wonder what is moving and how common this is. I will have to look at some
archive data but I bet this is a normal occurrence. I wonder what types of
birds: swallows, swifts, nighthawks, icterids, waterfowl, cranes???
