That 0.5 uS spec is for the minimum time the clock needs to be low. STEPLEN is the time to remain high. You have STEPSPACE=0 which means the low time is to be "0 nanoseconds".I'd make STEPSPACE much larger. BTW, that L297 is primitive at best. You'd be amazed at how much better the new ste

My answer is it depends. If you already have I/O that you can use, and you can do the logic in Classic Ladder or a component, then that will work. If you need to add high current I/O or need 120 or 220 volt AC I/O then you might as well buy a cheap PLC.   The Click PLC with the Modbus TCP

It really depends on what you are familiar with. If you have a classic ladder back ground - it might be an easy way for you to create the logic you need. It is just another tool. On the K&T the tool arm and chain is done in classic ladder. The gear shifting and spindle index is done in a comp.
