Re: Losing Dukee...... :(

2006-10-29 Thread Kat
Terrie,

What do his eyes tell you? What does your heart tell you?
Will your husband be there with you and Dukee?
Do you have a vet that can take you in right away if he crashes?
Will you/your friend continue to give him the injections just in
case he makes a turn around? (Thinking of Michelle's experiences
with Simon here...)

There is no easy answer since every case is uniquely different.

When my own soul-kitty was 21 and finally quit eating, I made the decision
to help her cross. I couldn't just allow her to starve herself to death,
so I made my vet come to the house instead of driving her to the vet's
office for that 1 last time.

What ever you decide will be the best and most loving course of action for
Dukee - and he knows that, and loves you for everything that you've done.
Gentle blessings for you to be guided by your love for Dukee...

Kat (Mew Jersey)

 Dukee is still with us.
My eyeballs hurt and I'm exhausted. I'm not a young kit anymore. Used to be
able to do all-nighters with kitties when they were ill.
I have been cat napping all night in here with him and the other cats.
I can tell you he wants to go and hide in dark places prefers to lay on cold
 areas. He is still alert.
I told my husband last night that I would send Dukee to the bridge.
He ask me a hell of a question like
Does he have to go? Can we let him die at home?
So for obvious reasons that makes me feel like crap... :(
Should I let Dukee hang out or should I take him to the Vet?
Just asking for your opinions on this.
 Thanks!

Terry, his pulling away is no refection on his love for you, or even if
he's happy. Sometimes they just need to distance themselves from
those of us still firmly connected to the earth plane. He's spending
time in and out of his body and it may just be that the touch of his
loved ones brings him back to awareness, when he's spending time
adjusting to being out of body.

You can also take a sock and put uncooked rice in it, tie the top in a
knot and microwave it until it's warm, (about 25 sec I think). Be sure
it's not too warm. It will hold the heat and he might want to nestle
in next to it.

I think it's good that you are allowing everyone to come and see Dukee.

Hideyo and I were just talking about how when kitties get cold to the
touch like that they sometimes don't seem to want to be warmed up.
That the do just the opposite and go and lay down on tile or some such
thing.  I don't understand why that should be either.

Warm water in a milk/water/plastic bottle
wrapped in a towel or washcloth or something like that will help. Putting

Re: Losing Dukee...... :(

2006-10-27 Thread TenHouseCats

one of my vets suggested, years ago, that i just fill a 2-litre soda
bottle with hot water and wrap it in a towel

i try so hard to respect what they need as they're preparing to leave,
even when what i really want to do is just hold them close and infuse
them with all the love i have but that's not always what they
need

i agree that oftentimes their spirits go on before their bodies do--i
remind them that they don't need that worn-out body any longer, and
that they can let it go and pick out a brand-new one at the bridge

i've heard that sometimes valium can have an opposite effect when
they're getting ready to pass, and can cause even greater
agitation--it's happened with a couple of cats i know of, so has
pretty much scared me off trying it (tho the last time i'd reached
the point of getting the valium out, when i got back upstairs with it,
martha had passed on her own--i'd only been gone a minute or two)

Since I have joined the animal communication list I've heard it said
again, and again, that most animals prefer to experience the full circle
of life and don't want or require assistance to leave. Aniamls don't
fear death as we humans do I have heard.

Bailey passing was a bit difficult, I brought him home to pass and my
vet did give me a shot of valuim to use if I needed it. When Bailey
finally did pass an hour or so after coming home it was very quick, he
started convulsing and by the time I jumped up to get the shot of valuim
off the table (hubby was holding Bailey) and got back to the couch in
the space of 20 seconds, I could see when looking into his eyes that he
was gone. His body continued to hiss and spasm for a minute or so but
Bailey was no longer in it and I knew we did the right thing. It was
hard for us to see it but it was what Bailey wanted and I'm glad as hard
as it was that we were able to give him that.

PS. I know it doesn't seem like it sometimes but once the final passing
process starts it usually doesn't take long. It seems like it but it
really isn't more than a minute or so, if even that long. It is also
said when getting close they are in and out of their bodies (people and
animals) and don't feel the pain that may be assosciated with passing as
they can leave their bodies when there is pain if they choose.

We all know what a tough call this is. When I know in my heart that
they are passing, when I know that holding on is for me, then I help
them cross. It's the last gift of love we can give them. If you call
a house call vet, make sure and tell them that you want them to bring a
pre-sedative, they don't all use one. We're never ready Terrie, I'm so
sorry.

I just wanted to add, that I don't believe all animals need to
experience "the full cycle" as Belinda puts it. It might be so with
your Dukee, but he's had time to adjust to crossing and prolonging it
might not be what he wants or needs. I too believe in AC, (as you all
know). When my beloved Princess Grace's time was near I had an AC tell
me that she was annoyed that I was waiting to help her cross. She was
anxious to leave her failing body and she said she had "things to do"
on the other side.
My heart is with you,

2006-10-27 Thread cindy reasoner
I just got to check my emails. I am so sorry about
Dukee. That is so sweet that the other cats want to
be near him. You, Dukee and your family are in my
prayers. I pray the vet can help your sweet boy.

Let him hang out. It is extremely hard
to do but I managed to do it with the Royal Princess Kitty Katt and I know in my
heart and soul it was the right thing to do. If Dukee really wants help
leaving he will make it very plain to you.

Your husband may just be making sure you
know there are options.

Sometimes they want to be alone when they leave. The Royal Princess Kitty
Katt did not want me holding her or hovering as she put it very plainly.
She enjoyed visits from my mother, the person she chose to live with though.

one of my vets suggested, years ago, that i just fill a 2-litre soda
bottle with hot water and wrap it in a towel

i try so hard to respect what they need as they're preparing to leave,
even when what i really want to do is just hold them close and infuse
them with all the love i have but that's not always what they
need

i agree that oftentimes their spirits go on before their bodies do--i
remind them that they don't need that worn-out body any longer, and
that they can let it go and pick out a brand-new one at the bridge

i've heard that sometimes valium can have an opposite effect when
they're getting ready to pass, and can cause even greater
agitation--it's happened with a couple of cats i know of, so has
pretty much scared me off trying it (tho the last time i'd reached
the point of getting the valium out, when i got back upstairs with it,
martha had passed on her own--i'd only been gone a minute or two)

Losing Dukee...... :(

2006-10-26 Thread TatorBunz

As I sit here I'm crying my eyes out having problems typing
this to you all. My husband keeps checking on us see how we are doing. We are in
my computer room with his best buddy "Vinnie".
I have soft lights, food and water along with their beds in
here.

Can anyone tell me what tranquilizer to give to help him to the
Rainbow Bridge? Otherwise I will wait until early morning to let him
go.
So this will be a long night for me.

He is crying and very weak. He has never been one to cry. He is
such a good boy just like my original Taz. Poor guys have never done anything
wrong in their lives. God they are about the same age too when it was
time.
God this is so heartbreaking!
I have given him his doses of his meds and the Interferon
nothing is working for him. Force feeding isn't a option here because I don't
want him throwing up what little he has eaten.. I have given him everything I
can possibly think of even cans of Tuna with juice.

Oh Terrie, I'm so sorry. Do you have any Valium in the house? It
helped one of mine relax and let go when he was suffering and it was
close to his time. Sally uses the homeopathic remedy Arsenicum. She
was told that it will help ease them into a peaceful transition. What
time zone are you in? Are you near a Whole Foods? I wish I could
think of words to comfort you, there just aren't any at a time like
this. Please know that you are not alone, we all feel for you and
Dukee, we're with you in spirit and of course you are in our prayers.
I'm sure your loving presence is a comfort to your sweet baby.

Re: Losing Dukee...... :(

2006-10-26 Thread Nina

Terrie,
It's so sweet that Vinnie and Buggy are sitting vigil with you and
Dukee. What a lovely family you have. I know it sometimes helps ease
the pain, just a little, to talk to my loved one about all the Angels
and friends that are hovering near, waiting anxiously to greet them. I
talk about the joy and celebration that awaits, how soon there will be
no more pain, no more discomfort, no more fear. How soon they will
leave their beautiful body behind, to venture on an incredible
adventure. I tell them how much their earth bound family will miss
them, but how they won't miss us. They won't miss us because we will
always be connected, because we will love each other forever, and even
though I'll only be able to see them in my dreams and memories, they'll
be able to see me whenever they like. I close my eyes and "see" them
whole and free, chasing butterflies with my loved ones that have
already passed. I ask them to see it with me, to know that they are
going to a beautiful place full of loving friends. I talk about the
first time I laid eyes on them, favorite memories, about how those
moments will exist in my heart and keep me company until we can be
together again. Of course all this is said through a flood of tears,
but still, it brings a smile of comfort to my face, because I believe
in my heart that all this is true.

Thank you
Yes, I seen the messages that's okay. Rudy my Siamese does that
to me sometimes.

The answer is yes Hideyo he was given the Interferon by my best
friend that is a Vet Tech. She is familiar with it.
There isdamage to his system I guess was too late for it
to work.
He is slowly leaving us. He doesn't want to be touched by me or
his family of kitties. I have noticed to he is limping on the left rear leg.

That's unlike him so that tells me he isn't happy.

When in general he is a happy kitty.

RE: Losing Dukee...... :(

2006-10-26 Thread Hideyo Yamamoto

Terrie I am so sorry what Dukee
and you are going through ---I dont know if this is going to help you or
not --- but from what my AC has told me .. usually when our babies are close to
passing, their soul actually goes in and out of body, and they may not feel
that pain as you may observe everytime I was losing my babies, I always talked
to my AC and they are usually very perceptive and objective they start
seeing their body from outside of their bodyand thats what made
me go through with Tsubomi her last day or two was very hard for me..
because she seemed in pain.. but at the same time,, her soul was ready to
transit and she was so very happy once she passed.. as she became free from the
body which limited her to do things she wanted to do..

Terri, no matter what happens to Dukee
please know that his soul will still be with you so please dont
forget that.

Love and hugs to you and Dukee.

Hideyo

As I
sit here I'm crying my eyes out having problems typing this to you all. My
husband keeps checking on us see how we are doing. We are in my computer room
with his best buddy Vinnie.

I have
soft lights, food and water along with their beds in here.

Can
anyone tell me what tranquilizer to give to help him to the Rainbow Bridge?
Otherwise I will wait until early morning to let him go.

So
this will be a long night for me.

He is
crying and very weak. He has never been one to cry. He is such a good boy just
like my original Taz. Poor guys have never done anything wrong in their lives.
God they are about the same age too when it was time.

God
this is so heartbreaking!

I have
given him his doses of his meds and the Interferon nothing is working for him.
Force feeding isn't a option here because I don't want him throwing up what
little he has eaten.. I have given him everything I can possibly think of even
cans of Tuna with juice.

My girlfriend was close by so I ask her to help me on this. She
said she would be more than glad to help in this matter on giving Dukee his
Interferon treatments.
She is also retired Manager and Vet Tech of a huge animal
clinic.
I have a lot of confidence in her. She is always rescuing
animals.
She has a heart of gold. She has animals that are throw-aways
from humans. Many that have special needs.
She is familiar with Interferon, that is why I trusted her in
helping me on this since I didn't have any experience with it. She doesn't have
access to it like you do Hideyo. She also said thank you for what you do as
well.
