[Audyssey] Audio rpgs

Hello.  Was wondering has anyone ever thought of making an audio rpg not term 
based, but when you are in combat its in real time, I guess what I mean is 
multiple attacks or the continual casting of spells?  It would be interesting 
if a game like entombed could be a multiplayer game where you could have shops 
to buy food for mana regen and stuff like that.  Just my thoughts.

Interesting plan and I agree a good idea.

Something perhaps could be done with the gma or genesis engine. The gma 
engine in particular i noticed in sarah had a lot of features possibly rpg 
worthy,  all the exploration stuff, and shades revealed basic leveling 
and weapons.


Of course having the capability to produce it and having a developer work on 
it,  with all the time and effort that involves are two very different 
things.


Btw, one system which might be fun was that I remember from the Snes rpg 
secret of mana.


all melee combat was very much weapon and action based. Spells and all magic 
however worked as in turn based games,  ie, the enemy couldn't avoid 
them.


thus you had a really nice mix of things, particularly as mana was very into 
elemental weaknesses (it actually had 8 of them).

[Audyssey] Text to speech problem with power up

Hi there

I have a problem with Text to speech and the Game
I startet the game. The first time I tryed it it worked. But after that it 
didn't speak. I reinstalled it nothing happened. I pressed ctrl-T nothing 
happened. NOthing is working there. What did I do wrong?
Ah and if I want to setup my Name I have to arrow through this hol list. 
Whys can't I use First letter or something?

  There was a post about Warcraft the other day.  For totally blind playrs 
it's not accessible.  If a person does have some vision there were methods 
mentioned to improve the playability.

You can't make a game like Warcraft accessible. It's entirely all graphics
and the like. Yes, there are audio components to it as well. But to make it
accessible the way you're hoping, it would call for a complete redesign of
the game. And sorry, but no mainstream dev will want to do this. Like ever.

PS: Warcraft? A RPG? No. Try hack and slash. There's no roleplaying
involved... To get anywhere, you kill or be killed.

Blizzard could give to craps about accessibility. At least for blind  
people. I saw an interview on ablegamers that they made enhantsments  
and things for other disabilities, and they said that talked about add- 
ons for other disabilities being made, but of course none can be made  
for us.

the music in warcraft though is awesome lol absolutely superb and the  
effects are extreme high quality not that soun RTS isn't good in terms  
of sound but obviously warcraft is a huge download

well the sfx in soundrts are not good in the low quality pack, with the high 
quality packs they are a bit better.
Though if you look round the place, I think there is a non crappy soundpack for 
the game.
And the dev is trying to put in any good packs.
Heck if you don't care for speech you can rebuild the voices for your own synth.

Hi Will,
All versions of Warcraft are pretty much totally unaccessible. I can't 
even get World of Warcraft III to install, because the setup program 
won't even work with a screen reader. You run the setup program and the 
only thing Jaws, Window Eyes, NVDA, etc sees is blank, blank, blank. If 
the setup is that bad I am certain World of Warcraft III itself has to 
be worse.

Hi,
Like I said earlyer up thread I tried that once. They earned their name 
Blizard. I definitely got a frosty reception. I have come to the 
conclusion these guys don't care about us, will never care about us,and 
unless we go to court to force accessibility it isn't happening in this 
life time.

Hi,
yes and no. It is true that SoundRTS was designed to be similar to 
Warcraft in actuality it can't compare. Not by a long shot.
First, in Warcraft there are several enemy races like goblins, ogres, 
orcs,  etc bbesides humans. Second, Warcraft is far more campaign based. 
There is a lot better story line and more interesting missions to carry 
out in Warcraft than SoundRTS at this point. Finally, the sounds etc is 
much better in Warcraft just because it is better funded.

what I'm thinking of here is something which basically functions as a table with eddit boxes. 

You could start at coordinates 00 (so that they can both rise and fall into negative numbers), and move left and navigate left, right up and down with the arrows.

Fields such as name, possible exits and additional information.

I've read the artical on using pins in a pizza box, but I must confess I've never personally found that method too convenient to work in construction. 

I actually got this idea from playing Eamon, which has that really useful habbit in maps of giving current information, such as you are in a T intersection and I thought this could really help if a program was constructed to do it, - especially with adequate read keys. 

Any thoughts would be welcome.

For my clarification and others what maps in MOTA? If you are refering 
to the view map feature that was present in Montezuma's Revenge that 
feature is no longer available in Mysteries of the Ancients as MOTA uses 
a completely different game engine.

Hi,
Silent Hill is good, but it can't hold a candle to Eternal Darkness. 
Eternal Darkness is freeky in that as your sanity meter drops the 
weirder the game gets. Blood starts streaming down the walls, bugs show 
up on your tv screen, the music gets weird,  and so on. All I can say it 
is just all around disturbing.

Well, seeing as voice acting for audio games is usually done by 
volinteers we can't exactly hire the best voice talent around. The only 
company that came close was Bavasoft, and I think they got some college 
drama students to do that.

like this. Indeed, games like fallthrough tell you to create a map, and this 
is a lot more problematic for a Vi person than for a sited person who can 
just use a pen and paper for quick marking and review.


This was why i was thinking distinctly of a mapping program to help with 
things, sinse many of the overview functions used in all the grid based 
puzlers and solitare games,  eg read column, mark box etc could really 
be helpful here.

what I'm thinking of here is something which basically functions as a 
table with eddit boxes. You could start at coordinates 00 (so that they 
can both rise and fall into negative numbers), and move left and navigate 
left, right up and down with the arrows. I thought each box could have 
several text fields which you could tab betwene with the arrow keys and 
enter information about the location. Fields such as name, possible exits 
and additional information. This way you could create a map which you

able to read through fairly easily,  in fact up to the author, some 
extra functions could be added such as the ability to mark a location,

text adventures, gamebooks, and even audio games which have complex maps, 
i think this would be something which could really helpp. I've read the 
artical on using pins in a pizza box, but I must confess I've never 
personally found that method too convenient to work in construction. I 
actually got this idea from playing Eamon, which has that really useful 
habbit in maps of giving current information, such as you are in a T 
intersection and I thought this could really help if a program was 
constructed to do it, - especially with adequate read keys. Any

Don't forget Microsoft's infamous blue screen of death. The game even throws 
some effects at you that make you think your game is acting up. The worst 
one is the one where you go to save your game and it tells you that you've 
just successfully deleted your saved game. There's even a to be continued 
message that hints at a sequel to Eternal Darkness, though nothing has been 
said for certain one way or the other on that score.

Silent Hill is good, but it can't hold a candle to Eternal Darkness. 
Eternal Darkness is freeky in that as your sanity meter drops the weirder 
the game gets. Blood starts streaming down the walls, bugs show up on your 
tv screen, the music gets weird,  and so on. All I can say it is just all 
around disturbing.

Well, seeing as voice acting for audio games is usually done by volinteers 
we can't exactly hire the best voice talent around. The only company that 
came close was Bavasoft, and I think they got some college drama students 
to do that.

aah I couldn't play it anyway I thought it was windows only my cousin hs a ps2 
I have a pc and my friend has an xbox but thats it.
The only other guy that plays ps1s is a long way away and I don't see him much.

Using the link at the bottom of the audeasy mag, and unfortunately that seems 
to only have up to issue 50 the same way audiogames.net does.
