[Audyssey] When you're taking a break from TDV...
Hi all, I know TDV has been burning up the email list of late, but if you're needing a break from all that high altitude action then I'd love to get some feedback on the interactive fiction document I posted about a couple of days ago. If you missed it, the link to the document is: http://www.inthecompanyofgrues.com/interactivefiction/ifvia.rtf A number of other people involved are starting to send back their requested changes and new ideas, and I'm hoping to finish it off and get it posted within the next 24 to 48 hours, so any feedback within that time frame would be awesome. Either post to the list, or hit me up directly via my email address. Thanks a bunch. Cheers, Neophyte. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] Mississippi
well charles, yes as you might guess I've played it, (I did write the page afterall ;D). Myself, I have two specific problems with the game. firstly, trading seems extremely random sinse each turn you can only trade a couple of things, and the chance of prices getting better or worse seems based on luck, so frequently I end up buying stuff, then waiting ages until I can make a prophit, where as in most trading sims (such as smugglers), it's possible to travel around and look for the best deals. That brings me on to my second problem with the game. no traveling. While there are special events, I've rarely been affected by them, which basically leaves me sitting around waiting to sell and hoping the random factors will let me make cash, where as in other trading sims I can at least wander around and explore the environment a bit. I'm not sure if this is specifically because I've only ever played single player (it seems a lot of the games' events would be more interesting with more players). I actually wish there was the possibility of having a computer opponent in the game just to see what it ends up like because I suspect that the game can be a good deal more interesting with more players. Btw, the sounds are really good, as is the accessibility (Hal's fine with it), I just wish there was more to the single player experience and a bit less randomness. Beware the Grue! Re: [Audyssey] Kringle Crash Score
Hi Philip, I think adding score posting would be a great addition to Kringle Crash and Palace Punch-Up. For one thing Kringle Crash is a great arcade game, but there is no way to currently compete with friends on the web other than to say here is my score, and see if anyone else has beaten it or not. So score posting would be a great way to do that. By the way, I've never made it as high as 53. You must have some extremely fast fingers. Although, I guess I could have scored higher, but the last minute or so I just stood in the little elves way punching them out so they couldn't break any more gifts. After all, I had 36 gifts to their 19 so plenty to win the game already. Just wanted a little fun pounding the little brats. Lol! Speaking of Christmas games you know what would be really fun. An accesible game of Elf Bowling. That's a game where Santa uses a bolwing ball to knock down elves instead of pins, and of course the little elves fart, make insults, etc at Santa. The game is funny as heck. Too bad there isn't an accessible version. Re: [Audyssey] Question
Hi, Actually, a release candidate in development terms is a complete copy of the software in question that may contain some bugs but is considered stable enough for final release. Let's give an example hear. Let's assume for a moment I have just finished with all the game levels for game x, have added the user registration system, and I think it is stable enough to release as 1.0. However, I don't know if everything works properly on non-development systems. So before I declare it 1.0 I would choose to release a release candidate. This is essentially a prerelease of 1.0 to do final testing and fix or resolve any issues that may appear before 1.0 final is released. If any bugs are found I'd fix them, and release a second release candidate to confirm the problems are resolved. Once resolved I rename release candidate 2 1.0 final, and the game is released. In short, a release candidate is passed the initial alpha and beta stages, but is close enough to be the final release with possibly some bugs or issues remaining that need last minute testing or revisions. Cheers! On 11/16/10, Hayden Presley hdpres...@hotmail.com wrote: Hi Muhammed, No. A release candidate is usually a piece of software that has most of the features that the relase will end up with. Re: [Audyssey] tdv question
Hi Josh, Are you looking for a personal opinion? Well, if so I think TDV is a pretty decent game, and is well worth the download. Weather you wish to buy it or not is your choice. However, the only one who can say if it is really worth it is you since it is up to your own personal judgment on those kinds of matters. So try it and see. As far as judging a game by last year's beta think about that a bit. This game has been in development a long time and things change from release to release from beta to beta etc. Basing a new game soully on its beta releases is, well, a bit stupid since a lot of things are subject to be updated and changed through the course of development. I don't think comparing 1.0 to last year's beta release is hardly a fair comparison do you? On 11/17/10, Josh Kennedy jkenn...@gmail.com wrote: Hi Ok guys is tdv worth the download? I'm currently playing a few games from the 2010 IF competition and I'm reading a great book called Wake, by science fiction author Robert Sawyer. Re: [Audyssey] tdv question
Hi Bryan, Was just curios, any special sound that you don't find realistic? I have noticed that if you listen closely with headphones you can actually hear the looping of the engine sound. The radio sound could have been a little better from my opinion. And the sound file of the engines could have been a bit longer. Except that, I think this is a great game and I am going to purchase it. Re: [Audyssey] Kringle Crash Score
Hi Philip, I'd thought that you might have the following hits in the game. A jab. Leftt hand punch, known as a strate punch. Cross. Strate punch with your fist. Hook. A sideways hit. Your elbow is pointing leftwards for instants for the left. Nuckle facing the ground on all of the hits. Uppercut. Your hit upwards. Your elbow is pointing kind of um to the left, and its sort of upwards. Right nere your chest. An upwards elbow action, but your fist faces upwards. I mean the nuckles. And at last, the haymaker. Its sort of like the overhead pass in netball. Well, the deel for this is to put your elbow backwards and your fist over the back of your head, your elbow clenched, then punch. I thought these might be good hits for kringle crash. Wish the elf's could fight you though. Maybe not, as Santa is gigantic. - Original Message - From: Philip Bennefall phi...@blastbay.com To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Wednesday, November 17, 2010 4:08 AM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Kringle Crash Score Ah, Tom, you either need practise or an even more ruthless elf-smashing fist, that's evident. On a slightly more serious note, what are your thoughts on score posting? Do we want it for this game as well as Q9 and Palace Punch-up? Recently I have greatly improved my PHP/MySQL skills so writing a nice score posting script would take me a matter of one or two hours. Re: [Audyssey] tdv question
Nothing that really detracts from the gameplay. I imagine there's only so much you can do to modify sounds so there might be instances like that where you hear the looping. Even in some mainstream games if you pay attention you can hear things like that. Re: [Audyssey] Kringle Crash Score
Hopefully, there aren't any cheats to the game, or if there are, they would nullify any scores posted. Other than that, I'd think that the ability to post scores for others to beat is always a great idea to add replay value to any games. --- Shepherds are the best beasts! - Original Message - From: Thomas Ward thomasward1...@gmail.com To: Philip Bennefall phi...@blastbay.com; Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Wednesday, November 17, 2010 8:18 AM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Kringle Crash Score Hi Philip, I think adding score posting would be a great addition to Kringle Crash and Palace Punch-Up. If you get over 40, by the way, you'll stumble upon some extra material; not sure if you've seen that as of yet. On a slightly more serious note, what are your thoughts on score posting? Do we want it for this game as well as Q9 and Palace Punch-up? Recently I have greatly improved my PHP/MySQL skills so writing a nice score posting script would take me a matter of one or two hours. And I have recently integrated http get and post requests into BGT, so firing it up client side will be a snap as well. Opinions? [Audyssey] tdv tips
Hello all, I'm very frustrated and would like some tips with tdv. I'm currently playing in raceing m0ode until I get the hang of flying the aircraft, then I'll move into mission mode. Firstly, is there an altitude you should try to stay at? When I go to about 10,000 feet and level off, and also when I try to turn left to turn towards the sound from that dirrection, I constantly hear we're too loose! My airspeed will say something like 900 notts or 1200 nots due to me running my afterburners. This is even at full throttle. I'll worry about landing later, right now I just have trouble staying in the air as my altitude always drops and I always have to pull up again. Any ideas would be great. [Audyssey] finally! Discovered! How! To! Land!
Hi guys, Subject says it all. Now, this task requires prodigious skill. Here is what you have to do. Now at first, wait until your something like at 430 knots. Then lower your nose to 45. I mean minus 45 which is 145. Then, wait until your speed drops. Then, let it say, your to luce! But do not land on the stall alarm! And then, the real moment! Wait until your about at 1 feet. Now, you have to be extremely careful between this procedure. Always at all time, make sure the beacon is about at 4 or 3 miles. Doesn't matter if you go off the target, just make sure that the landing beacon is with in range! Then, after that, when your about at 1000 feet, brake the landing gear and this bit is extremely important if you want to land successfully. Raze your nose angle grater than 150. Grater than means higher, or in maths, more. 156 will do. This gives you time in order to land slowly. Don't worry about anything else now. Then, when it is time, boom! We have dun it! I'm not sure if I mentioned this, sorry if I mentioned it again, but control your speed. We don't want to go to low. At first, 260 or 190 is fign. Don't go upwards a lot. Hope this helps. Tips for taking off: Now, this is more easier than landing. frottel your aircraft upwards. This is normally what a pilot does. They first make the plain go extremely fast. Then, when the afterburners kick in, press the page up key and the up arrow key. In fact forget that key, I don't see why you'd need it unless if you want to go faster at the same time. Then, when its beeped 6 times, level your nose by pressing the home key, then lock onto your dueller, or on racing mode, its slightly different. On racing mode, level your aircraft until the beep beep alarm stops. Then, for death crony's, press the go key to put the gear into its place. Then, you could lock on, or you could level first, then lock on, then do the gear! Ignore the captain at that moment! He is trying to trick you! Just kidding. Anyways, for the racing mode, who don't like killing, who only like racing, not violent stuff, before you level, put your landing gear into place. Hope this helped the people that had problems landing and taking off. Of course you could take other people's tips, but I urge you to try this out. Also, I will post some more and faster tips on landing. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. [Audyssey] to liam-was Re: Judgment Day 1.2.1 is now released
Hey Liam; I'm not sure if I asked you this before but, is it possible to have sounds indicating when your gun is at the right and left most- also, maybe some aiming signal. I love the judgement day game, but find is rather frustrating since I only got hearing in one ear so everything's chucked up to fluke rofl. I can actually do quite well scorewise but that basically is me just spreying bullets from left to right and back again without even aiming- I would prefer a way to allow me to aim properly. Also, since the gun doesn't let you know when you're at the left or right most corner, sometime I find myself hitting the arrows needlessly thinking that I can crank it over further. One way I can see to do this is to have a clicking sound when the gun's moving, so when it no longer clicks, you know you can't move it further in that direction. Not sure if you'd be interested in adding these features- I certainly hope so! No one ever kicked ass by saying I can't. Johnny ST Tai LIVE AND WALK WITH CONFIDENCE. Re: [Audyssey] finally! Discovered! How! To! Land!
I have landed successfully once or twice. The rest of the time I come very close, and something goes wrong. I wish the game would give me info on why the landing was unsuccessful. -Original Message- From: gamers-boun...@audyssey.org [mailto:gamers-boun...@audyssey.org] On Behalf Of Muhammed Deniz Sent: Wednesday, November 17, 2010 2:05 PM To: Gamers Discussion list Cc: discuss...@bpcprograms.com Subject: [Audyssey] finally! Discovered! How! To! Actually. You can use the shift key, though I know that won't help if you are playing with only one ear. Let me see what I can do. [Audyssey] Autopilote and some other tdv questions
Hi all, Yes, I know that I will find these things out when I have purchased the game, but just want to know. In racing mode I don't find any use of the autopilote feature. Will it be used in story mode of the game? Also, when you get into story mode, if you have done that, are the objects on the ground placed randomy each time you start over? The autoplay mode is in the mode menu, just scroll down till you hear it. Hi, I just wanted to tell that I have been able to land one time now and going to try it again. It wasn't that hard when I had figured it out. First I quickly decended and I decreast my speed to about 200 knots and let the aircraft slowly decent. and then I focused on the land beacon and my angle was about 160 and when I got to 800 feat I pressed g and the aircraft landed just fine! Hi, Oh, sorry for not being clear I mean the feature where you can input a specific sector and fly to that. In racing mode I don't find any use of the autopilote feature. Will it be used in story mode of the game? Also, when you get into story mode, if you have done that, are the objects on the ground placed randomy each time you start over? I suppose they are, but was just curious. I actually wasn't talking about landing this time. I was talking about racing. Everytime I get the left turn signal and try to turn left I get told I'm too loose. Discovered! How! To! Hope this
Re: [Audyssey] Using a Little Initiative
I'm in complete agreement here. While we should be available to answer questions should someone get stuck on an issue, people should at least be willing to put forth an initial effort. -Original Message- From: gamers-boun...@audyssey.org [mailto:gamers-boun...@audyssey.org] On Behalf Of Thomas Ward Sent: Monday, November 15, 2010 9:42 PM To: Gamers Discussion list Subject: [Audyssey] Using a Little Initiative Hi all, As this is increasingly becoming an issue on list I thought I would step in on the discussion as a moderator as well as a fellow list member. I think I need to spell out or clarify the point of this list. First, as the list description clearly states we are hear to discuss games that are accessible through accident or design. We provide help, hints, and offer open discussion on same. That does not mean, however, that we are to be a replacement for the game's documentation, the game's developer, or a replacement for the developer's technical support services. Although, list members may help with any or all of these issues we expect a little self-initiative from the person asking the question. For example, if you are going to ask a question like, how do I register game x, you should at least consult the game's user documentation or check the developer's website for that information before asking the question on list. Asking such a question that has already been answered elsewhere is both a waist of our time and probably yours as well. Instead of waiting several minutes or maybe hours for someone to respond you could probably have had the answer sooner just by using a little self-initiative and looked up that information in the game's documentation or on the developer's website. Why should the list be expected to answer those kinds of questions when you already have that information at hand and available elsewhere? Another thing that gets some people annoyed is when a game is talked about on list for days, and then someone asks, where do I get the game from? Ummm...Seriously have you been paying attention? If you haven't the Audyssey list is archived, there is Google, etc. Plenty of resources to get the same information without asking the question and having people repeat a download address multiple times in one week just because someone can't or won't look it up in the internet resources available to him/her. I have to ask, can you do anything for yourself, or do you have to be spoon fed everything? To be blunt about it by not taking a little personal initiative, not trying to look up the answers yourself first, is just going to make some users of the list upset at you. Many of them, including myself, will see you as lazy and will not want to read or respond to your posts. Personally speaking, I feel there is no excuse for not reading a manual in full before coming on a list like this asking questions like what command does this or that or how do I register the game when the answer is right there in the manual. I am not only less likely to respond to that kind of question, but I often add that person to a mail filter to automatically be deleted from my inbox by default. Keep that in mind before you ask several questions like that as I'm sure I'm not alone in filtering my mail. Bottom line, I'm willing to help anyone with an honest question if I'm certain the person has tried to find an answer and couldn't find it. For example, finding a secret item in a game isn't likely to be in the manual, and if they really can't find it I'll give them a spoiler to help them locate it. If the person has a technical problem with a game that is not covered by the manual by all means I will help in anyway I can. However, I'm not going to spend my time answering several questions that I know can be easily answered by reading the documentation. I can usually tell who has or has not read the manual for game x.So if I choose to respond to a person asking a question I feel has not tried to look up the information elsewhere I refer them to the manual where they should have started to begin with. I know some members get a bit upset when that happens, but seriously read the manual first. If you don't know where to download a game use something like Google. After all, that's what it is there for so use it. It saves everyone unnecessary time spent doing your own research for you. A prime example of this is how soon help was being asked for about the flight simulator. I haven't tried tried it, and currently don't have time to do so, but have people given up so soon after downloading it? I know there have been questions regarding registration and other stuff, but shouldn't those have gone to the technical support Email for the game, if there is one, before being sent to the list?
