[Audyssey] jim's monopoly
Hi I am having a very exciting game of monopoly. I play with the macdonald land board. Something exciting happened which I never expected will happen. I was in a bad fix. I owned 2 of the red properties and the computer oponent 1 red property. I owned 1 purple property and the computer oponent 1 purple property. The computer oponent owned all the yellow properties and all the gold properties. So the computer oponent quickly placed restaurants on his properties. So I used the buy, sell or trade menu option. I gave the computer oponent the one purple property that I owned. And I took the red property from the computer oponent. So I traded the purple property for the red property. Now I have both red properties so now I easily placed restaurants on the red properties. Now the computer oponent is in a bad fix. Had the computer oponent said no thank you on the deal I wouldn't have been able to buy restaurants. So the computer oponent agreed on the deal without noticing that I will be able to buy restaurants. So now the computer oponent already had to pay me a lot of rent as the computer oponent landed on my restaurants on the red properties quite a lot of times. This is exciting, because if the oponent was a human, the opponent wouldn't have agreed to the trade deal. A human oponent would have realized that I want to trade properties in order to place restaurants on properties'; in order to get out of a bad fix This is the first time in a game of monopoly that I am able to trade properties' with a computer oponent and then get out of this bad fix by putting restaurants on properties. I use the mary and mike voices with jim's games. 2 small weird things I have picked up while playing monopoly: When I get a chance card and it's a free out of jale card. Then mary says: This card may be kept until needed o r sold. So mary doesn't say or but o r. This is not at all a problem for me, its just a small weird thing I have picked up. Maybe it's the way how mary read text. And its nice to get the time while playing monopoly. Something weird that I pick up if I press f4 to get the time mary says island, not is. For example lets say the time is 11:00 I press f4, mary will say The time island 11:00. Instead of the time is 11:00. Maybe that's just how mary read text. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] jim's monopoly game
Hi Nicol, Well, it is pretty simple. If the computer has a property you would like to buy, sell, or trade for you can try and initiate a transaction using that option. Unfortunately, the A.I. isn't smart enough to try and buy, sell, or trade itself, but you can certainly use that option to try and make a deal with the computer player. I say try as the A.I. isn't good at buying, selling, or trading properties. Smile. Hi Jim, The reason I asked was because after saving a game of monopoly and then going back to it later didn't load my saved game, but acted as if I didn't save at all. What I did was reinstal the monopoly version 9 and everything seems to be fine now. Re: [Audyssey] Jim's Monopoly question
You can actually run the games without installing the Winkit file. I used to do that all the time before I realized that the Winkit file actually organizes the games into a workable order. Before that I was always having to go to the c:\program files\kitchensinc\game name folder (I usually created that last manually), in order to play the game. As I'm sure you can imagine that got annoying real fast. - Original Message - From: "dark" To: "Gamers Discussion list" Sent: Tuesday, December 16, 2008 4:37 AM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Jim's Monopoly question Okay Jim, fair enough, it's your game afterall, it was just a thought. as to the winkit file, one reason i wanted to update the entry pages for all of your games was precisely to stop people from making that mistake. Re: [Audyssey] Jim's Monopoly question
Hi Jim. It's just a personal thing probably, but I do like reviewing boards etc, and I wasn't thinking in terms of real time play over Skype or chatrooms, but play by mail, forum etc. As to the links on audiogames.net, each entry does have a link directly to your homepage, I've also included text about and a link to download the winkit file on all the game pages, so hopefully people shouldn't get too confused. The other nice point, is that with the new favourites system, people can add your games, - or anyone elses to their favourites list, and the list of who favourited what appears at the bottom of each page as a sort of popularity wrating system. Re: [Audyssey] Jim's Monopoly question
Hi Jim. Yes, both the quick tour and check assets options are really handy, but once again they'd only be useable by the person actually running the program. All the other players on E-mail or wherever couldn't have access to those options. As for setting piece movement being a cheat, yes it could be used as such (though imho would be slightly pointless as the random aspects of monopoly are the things which make it fun), but would also let play by E-mail or forum games with people running the same board setup possible, which imho would make the program a lot! more fun, sinse games with multiple opponents are great, and the ability to have more of them in a correspondance fashion would be cool. Btw, you'll be pleased to know that all the kitchinsinc entries on audiogames.net are now up to date completely, with links to all accompanying files, game explanations and the correct genres. I'm slightly sorry if the nfl description is just a litle thin, as I've said before, I'm not great on sports knolidge generally, - particularly of American sports. Re: [Audyssey] Jim's Monopoly question
Hmmm Jim. the Ai programming does make sense, though I do admit I would sometimes like multiple monopoly opponents to play against. The master option didn't actually occur to me, though certainly on the occasions i've played winlife or monopoly myself with friends we've only had the one person typing, and I can see that method working in live chat or skype calls. On the other hand though, it might be a personal thing, but I do like to physically look around the board and see what is or is not free, check how much catch I've got as opposed to my opponent etc. Pluss, for play by E-mail or forum mail monopoly, i couldn't really imagine using a master and several others. I ttherefore put the dice rolling thing to you as a suggestion, perhaps combined with the ability to have a text file of the board setup either saved or spoken, which players could pass around if necessary. If this would be a pest to do or nobody thinks it's a good idea, fair enough. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. [Audyssey] Jim's Monopoly question
Hi I know this has probably been asked before, but I don't know in what post. My question is, why can't monopoly be made so that you can have a computer player even if you don't choose a one-player game, or even, why can't you choose for the fun to have multiple computer oponents, example, a four-player game made up of you and a pal, plus two computers? I'm asking because I've installed monopoly for a friend, and, because she often plays by herself, she finds it boring to always just play against one computer. Hi Well since there is no real online software Monopoly game that can be played head to head over the net, the best thing is to have it on a voice chat room setting. That way others can hear what is happening and can talk during game play. Have a nice day. Hi Gary. Personally I think the tournament should be for anyone, not restricted to members of FTP. I haven't got any reason to sign up for it simply because I don't have a microphone and don't have the money for one right now. I don't have the time for voice chatting with school starting again next week and all the e-mail lists I'm on, but a tournament sounds like it would be interesting. Re: [Audyssey] Jim's Monopoly.
Free games ain't going to have computer being smart as Oppenheimer. Now, I again, will throw down the Gonelet and to find out how many want to put their purple money where there mouth is. I would be happy to help start a Monopoly Tournament for the blind. As many know that I run many pools and so I do have the software toput up a web page showing either brackets or most likey a standings format will be used. How long the tournament would last would depend on the number of members in the tournament. Like they do on For-the-Pople.com have Golf tourneys on a regular bases with Jim's game why not Monopoly. The last time I had offer this idea, was a system where there would been a small Fee to play in the tournament of five bucks that way the winner of the tournament could be awarded something afterward. Since the tournament could been as long as the football season, I thought it would only been right. Now taking the bull by the horn again, since now there has been talk about how good one is beating up a simple bot in a game, lets get down to business.. For those who wants braging rights. Where is what I will do. Instead of having an open tournament that could last for months, but a close tournament. Members will have to belong to FTP and only four players may be pick from this list. Re: [Audyssey] Jim's Monopoly.
Hi Thomas, Thank you for your suggestions, but as I said and you suggested, I think that you would be better off writing your own Monopoly game since you have a better head for business and writing artificial intelligence. BFN - Original Message - Hi Jim, Your Monopoly game has promise, but I think a few small corrections in the way the computer does business would go a long way to improving the game play. For example, when I play and I start getting low on cash I stop buying property and houses until I build up a bit of a reserve. That way I don't go to much in to debt by morgadging all my properties. However, the computer AI player will land on an expensive property, have limitted funds, and instead of trying to buy it later buys right then, and morgadges several properties to obtain the property. That is a very risky move, and can be a suicidal act in the end if the computer player doesn't know how to recover from that kind of move properly. Which it usually doesn't, and continues to lose money rather than continue picking up income. Here is a clear example of a mistake the computer player makes. It usually tries to unmorgadge the most expensive properties, and start building there first. Good if you have the funds to do it, but bad if you have limited funds. Well, in my last game the computer player had all the green properties, red, and light blue. All of them were morgadged and the computer just went around go. It unmorgadged a green property. However, a more financially sound investment might have been to unmorgadge the light blue, and then build a few houses on it in time so that there would be some income coming in besides the $14, and so on from the empty properties. The income from the light blue properties could have been used to pull say the red out of debt, and once started building on that the player could have started in too the green. What I am saying in monopoly as in real life building a monopoly takes starting from the least expensive investments and as you increase investments, build upwards until u reach the final goal. Jim I will always cherish the initial misconceptions I had about you. [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.kitchensinc.net 1-440-286-6920 Chardon Ohio ___ Gamers mailing list .. Re: [Audyssey] Jim's Monopoly.
Another example of good strategy: When my Mom was a kid, there used to be a hamburger joint that sold a quarter-pound burger for a nickel. One of the major burger chains moved in right across the street from the family-run restaurant. They would put signs up to send messages to one another. The chain restaurant boasted about the number of burgers they sold elsewhere. However, they weren't doing much business here. They sold their burger for a dime. The final sign that the family-run place put up made a very good point that businesses, and players of Monopoly should follow: "A fast nickel beats a slow dime any day". By the way, the chain restaurant moved elsewhere due to a lack of business. - Original Message - From: "Thomas Ward" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Gamers Discussion list" Sent: Monday, August 21, 2006 4:29 AM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Jim's Monopoly. > Hi Jim, > Your Monopoly game has promise, but I think a few small corrections in > the way the computer does business would go a long way to improving the > game play. > For example, when I play and I start getting low on cash I stop buying > property and houses until I build up a bit of a reserve. Hi Jim Sorry this is not about monopoly. I had a problem with life 2 the other day and you advised deleting certain files. Re: [Audyssey] Jim's Monopoly.
Hi Jim, Your Monopoly game has promise, but I think a few small corrections in the way the computer does business would go a long way to improving the game play. Hi, Yeah, you can say that again. If I wanted to cheat the computer I could make it's life to miserable. I remember playing Monopoly 4 and one time I traded it some really crappy properties for the two dark blue properties and it did it. I couldn't believe how easy it was to do that. Re: [Audyssey] Jim's Monopoly.
Hi, I'll keep that in mind. I usually buy and exchange properties with the computer so that probably gives me the high success rate of wins. the AI isn't inteligent enough to see the doom coming by selling this or that property. However, when it is ahead and doing well it doesn't have the ogressive tactics to get a monopoly going. I seen times where it had three properties ready to build and suddenly it goes in debt to buy a property that it didn't really need. [Audyssey] Jim's Monopoly.
Hi all, I guess this question would probably be better for Jim, but has anyone else noticed that the computer player makes huge purchasing mistakes and doesn't know how to play Monopoly properly? For example the computer player will land on an expensive green property but have $11 in cash. It will decide to purchase the property anyway and morgadge everything to get it. Yeah, that is legal for the game, but is usually a risky move that will end the player in losing the game soon. I suppose it would be ok for the computer to try it for absolutely necessary properties, but I notice it does it over and over again until it runs out of money and commits financial suicide. Another mistake I saw was when the computer player decided to unmorgadge something it started automaticly with the most expensive properties. Duh, if you are trying to get some houses up unmorgadge the less expensive properties, and get some houses on them, and once they bring in some cash then unmorgadge the moreexpensive properties and build on them. In short I hate to be critical, but the computer player for Monopoly 6 doesn't have a head for business at all. I can see several moves ahead and see when the computer player is making massive blunders and this or that is going to end up in the computer losing. When the computer player makes such blunders I am master enough of computer and board based monopoly to capatilise on the computer's blunders and make huge proffets etc usually killing the computer even faster yet. ___ Gamers mailing list ..
